Accessing Telephone Exchange Switch Terminal

Does anyone know how to connect to a telephone exchange switch terminal using command line.
Information I have about the switch is
1. Its an Ericsson AXE 10
2. IP Address and the port no
After doing some research online I found out that VT 100 or VT 102 terminal are the 2 kind of terminals which may be hardwired to the Ericsson switch.
Hp-Unix box will be used to issue commands.
I tried 'telnet [ipaddress] [port]'
The response "Trying...." and just sat over there.
Once I get the communication channel going we have to automate the whole process of connecting to the switch and issue switch commands like ''ANESP:ES=ALL; and get the output in a file.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Manny

If you can find a laptop with a serial port (probably a cheap and/or used one would) then you could attach that instead and use terminal software of some kind. But then, I'm surprised that they mentioned VT10* terminals, since most terminals had serial ports. My ancient adm3a, encased in bubble wrap, has a serial port. Did the info you find say that ONLY vt10* can be used, or did it just mention that a vt100 may be used.
Hp-Unix box will be used to issue commands. Uh, OK. I presume you mean that you just happen to be using that kind of box; I don't see how it's relevant otherwise. (Though... are you sure that this box doesn't happen to have a serial port?)
I tried 'telnet [ipaddress] [port]'
The response "Trying...." and just sat over there. What, the switch hasn't been set up to respond to net connections?

Any help would be appreciated. Without any knowledge of that device, I'm assuming that your problem is: you have a device that can be accessed either via a net connection, or via a plain terminal over the serial port. But the device hasn't been set up for net connections yet. So you're trying to figure out how to connect to it over the serial port so you can set it up.
Is that correct?
If so, I'd suggest getting a serial cable and terminal software for a PC or possibly that HP box, rather than trying to find a VT100 terminal, which may be difficult at this point.
This is all just wild guessing. Maybe someone who knows about the device would have a more informed answer.
PS: What does this have to do with Java?

  • Has anyone deployed converged access with 3850 switches and 5760 WLCs?

Has anyone deployed a converged access network architecture with 3850 switches and 5760 WLCs? I have done lots of projects with the 5508 WLCs In a centralized deployment. Basically with this design, I manage 2 logical networks as the wireless network is an overlay over the wired network. I can design firewall to segregate traffic between the wired and wireless hence I can carry both staff and guest traffic.
Now Cisco is telling us that there is new design such that the dats plane traffic can be dropped locally through the 3850 switched. I am not sold on this and have not found any recommended best practices on when should we use a converged access architecture.
    Pros
With converged access, data traffic is terminated at the MA which is on the switches, hence the WLC will not be a bottleneck? This is to prepare adoption for 802.11ac?
Less hops for voice calls from user A to user B as data control traffic is dropped locally.
    Cons
Now how do I segregate guest and staff traffic if my security folks say I need a firewall?
Troubleshooting wireless client mobility will be a nightmare as the 3850 switches are MA.
Pushing and upgrading code for the Code will mean upgrading the stack of switches in the LAN riser. This will be painful in a huge campus environment like an university.
Can someone convince me why would a customer choose converged access?

They choose CA because of the capwap termination at the switch. You can still use a 5508 and tunnel guest to a DMZ segment if you wish. You will need a 5508 though is you want to tunnel traffic to an anchor WLC.

  • Mail on iMac not accessing MS Exchange server but both iPhone and iPad access the same account with no problems.

I have been using an iPhone and iPad to access my work emails via our MS Exchange server for a number of years now with no problems at all.  I recently replaced my home PC with an iMac (first Mac I have owned) but cannot get it to communicate with the exchange server.  I've checked and re-checked the information on the iMac and my iPad - I even deleted the mail account on the iPad and input the details concurrently with setting up on the iMac - but the Mac will not access the exchange server.
I receive the message "The Exchange server "---------------" rejected the password for user "------"  Enter you password again or cancel."  I am using the correct password.  iPad and iPhone are logging on using that password fine.  iMac just ends up repeating this message.
Our IT support at work assure me that there is no reason from their end for it not to work, and reasonably point to it working using the iPhone etc.
I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can provide a solution to this basic, but extremely frustrating, little problem.

iPhone and iPad use a different way of accessing the server.
I don't know the exact details, but we are using Zarafa instead of Exchange and have the same problem:
iPhone and the likes can connect to Zarafas z-push interface, which is some identical interface to the native Exchange interface, while the desktop e-mail application tries to interface with the web front end (via http) of the server.
These are completely different setups and it depends on the actual installation of the server to get this going.
So, you will most likely need different access parameters for the desktop - and the web mail feature has to be enabled on the Exchange server.
In my opinion using the web mail interface is just silly. On the other hand, the native protocol has less features comparedto the web front end, so you are somehow stuck with sins of the past.
    Good luck!

  • How to access proxy settings in terminal

I want to use git in the terminal, but unfortunately I'm sometimes (but not always) behind a firewall that requires me to use a proxy server.
I've successfully set up environments for all these locations, including the proxy settings that are relevant in each context, but I'm unable to access them in the terminal (i.e. there's no HTTP_PROXY environment variable). My idea is to 'inherit' the system wide proxy settings in the terminal and use them to configure git.
Is there any way to access the proxy settings in the terminal.

In you home directory, create a file called .bash_profile (notice the leading dot)
    nano .bash_profile
    add to that file
    export HTTP_PROXY="http://your.proxy.information:nnn"
    Save the file
    Restart the Terminal session.
Command line Git should work via the environment variable you just created.
NOTE: you will need to use
    ls -a
to see the .bash_profile in a Terminal session, and because the leading dot makes it an invisible file, the Finder will not show it without some magic Finder Foo

  • 2621 as a Frame Relay switch & terminal server?

Is it unwise to use a 2621 as a combined Frame Relay switch & terminal server in a home lab? Both functions seem to move a general-purpose router into the dedicated use category.
Likewise, is it true than configuring a router to serve as a Frame Relay switch isn't memory intensive?
If I am wrong in my assumptions, please feel free to correct my misperceptions.
    Thanks.

Using the 2621 for frame and TS should be fine. I do it in my lab and have never had a problem.

  • Access to Exchange email from smartphones

I am in the mioddle of a SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 migration.  I have the Exchange Server running on the new server and have run into a problem with accessing some of the email accounts via smartphones.
The email works fine from the deskop, as does the Remote Web Access (I can log in and run OWA without any problems>.
I configured 2 user smartphones and was able to access their Exchange email accounts.  I did have to accept all SSL certifictaes, so I have a certificate issue somewhere which may or may not be related to the issue.
When I went to configure the other user accounts on their respective phones (one droid and one iPhone), both responded with an unknown error occurred and a message to check the username and/or password.
I can use Remote web access and access email via OWA, thus confirming the account and password.
I even tried to configure the failed account on one of the smartphones that worked and it too failed again with the same error.  This seems to imply a configuration problem with that email account (but I have not been able to find any differences
between the working and failed acounts).
I am a novice at Exchange and could use siome direction as to what else to look for that can explain why a couple of email accounts worked and others do not.
    Thanks

Seems as though my only hope is that my company upgrades to 2007 with autodiscovery.
If your company does not have Exchange 2007 with SP1 and update rollup 4 (or higher) installed, then the functionality you want for your Exchange account would be the Exchange IMAP option. You do not want to use the Exchange 2007 option until the aforementioned upgrade to your company's system has occurred. The difference between the two is about the protocols used. The Exchange IMAP setup still uses the regular email protocols that you use with most types of email accounts and that are available to Exchange 2003 and the like. The "Exchange 2007" type of account in Mail uses EWA as its protocol and the protocol is not available to lesser versions of Exchange server. So, syncing mail with Exchange in your case seems to rely on setting it up with the imap.<domain>.com and smtp.<domain>.com settings you would use if you set up Thunderbird or some other email client to communicate to your account. Unfortunately, I do not know if this is as simple as it was before the autodiscovery feature became the default in mail.

  • Safari 5.05 does not work with OWA access to Exchange 2010

When I connect to my work OWA for access to MS Exchange e-mails I can authenticate but then 9 times out of 10 Safari goes into a loop of loading and re-authenticating from which it never recovers. Occasionally the page loads normally and operates without any problems but this is rare.
The inbox homepage page eventually loads but with errors and is not usable, re-loading normally causes the same loop of trying to load the main inbox page then back to authentication and around again.
Safari has a "reader" icon in the address bar which seems odd to me but otherwise all appears normal.
I have tried clearing the cache, removing cookies, reseting safari etc but nothing seems to clear the issue. I also have firefox for mac which has a similar issue with loading the site however, PC based users using IE have no such issues connecting?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

PC based users using IE have no such issues connecting?
You are trying to access MS Exchange web based email whose priority is most likely IE (Microsoft), not Safari or Firefox.
Information for Safari reader here.  http://www.apple.com/safari/whats-new.html
    You can try this...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu then click User Agent. Try IE 8. Then try accessing MS Exchange.
    No guarantees...

Why can't people who are connected to directly to the telephone exchange get fibre optic broadband I thought it would be easer and faster. And if you have normal copper broadband which would be better connected to the cabinet or directly to the exchange

  • It could be easier to access code exchange content.

Only the most determined of users are able to access coed exchange project content. I asked several colleagues, and they all  gave up. It seems there are several click through licenses to accept, emails to wait for, web pages linked to from the emails to read carefully, approvals to wait for. Until we simplify this, we sure could use a good 'how to' document that explains exactly what one must do between finding the lonk to a project in Google search, to accessing the project source code.  Any plans to write such a guide?

I agree that the user interface is somewhat cryptic and possibly incoherent. I just received mail that someone wants to become a member of my project, but when I log in, I cannot see any such request in the "members" section. Well, maybe there's a lag between these mail notifications to my external mail account and the actual request showing up in the CE dashboard, what do I know... I'll check again in a couple of hours.
In general, when faced with a web interface usability issue (and my criteria are simple: more than 30 seconds of messing around, and I'm out), I go to a competitor's site. Not really an option here

  • Can't get read-only access to my switches via http

I set up a couple of users for read-only access to our switches via their web browsers. I set this up in Network Assistant. However when we try to log in, only a level 15 user is allowed to log in and there doesn't seem to be any way change this.
I know in Network Assistant, you can choose which user level you want, but I don't see any way to do it via the web interface.
    What am I missing here?

Implementing security within a switching environment is less intuitive than in a router. Switches, by design, tend to recognize only two levels of administrative access - user exec mode or privileged exec mode. Implementation of security at different access levels, level 15, etc, can be tricky and should be done at the command prompt, not in the GUI.
You should reset your config and do not use Network Assistant for this purpose; it is "buggy."
