Accessing the Lightroom Catalog directly

I write programs using RealBasic and SQL databases. I understand the LR Catalog is a MySQL database. I would like to be able to open the catalog as a readonly file from an external program and access information about a photo based on the filename.
Is this possible or advisable?

It's an SQLite database and there are many admin tools (I use SQLite Expert) that can browse the database. Note that the prudent hacker should do this on a copy of the Lightroom database. Also, Adobe does not publish the layout of the tables nor the meaning of the many cryptic columns.

During a call, press the home button (note the green bar at the top of the screen). Navigate to your Calendar app and open it.
The Calendar app won't be able to update OTA during the call but you should be able to see everything that was there before the call.

Can I move the Lightroom Catalog from one location to another?

Lightroom by default, places the Lightroom Catalog in the Pictures folder on my PC. My image library though, is located on an external hard drive. I've read that it is better to have the Catalog at the same location to avoid disconnected images, which sounds reasonable. Is it feasable to move the Catalog over to the same drive as my image library, or will that cause a problem? In other words would I need to start over again and create a new Catalog on the external drive? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I've learnt to my cost that the obvious solution isn't necessary the correct one.

For better performance it is preferable to have the catalog located on an internal hard drive. By default the catalog and the preview files have to be located in the same folder since there is continual read/write taking place while working in Lightroom. Lightroom does not make any changes to the original files so its fine for them to be located on another hard drive internal or external. Lightroom loves lots of hard disk space to operate so if your catalog is on an internal drive make sure it not starved for disk space.
However its ok for your catalog/previews files to reside on an external HDD with your original photo files.
Your photo files can reside on a HDD conected to a network but your catalog and preview files cannot be located on a network.
e.g I have my catalog / previews on the main HDD with my operating system with over 50% free disk space. My Photo files are on a secondary internal HDD with over 75% free disk space. I back up to external HDD.

Why can't I access the app catalog?

I have a Verizon palm Pre Plus and when I try to access the app catalog I get this:
The action could not be completed. Try again later.
When I go online and send the app to my phone and then use my phone to click the link it gives me this same message again.
My phone is fully updated to the latest OS. I should add that before I updated to the latest OS I was at least able to install apps when sending them to my phone though I wasn't able to access the app store via the phone.
So what can I do? I have a new palm pre plus that doesn't allow me to get apps....

I have restarted the phone multiple times which did not help but I just tried the restore erase data feature and now I do have access to the app store but a new problem has arrived. I can't download anything. The progress bar states that it is downloading but nothing happens and the bar shows zero progress. I've tried this with multiple apps and avenn bought a cheap app and still this happens. The phone can sit for 10 minutes and nothing downloads.
I should add that I have full signal bars and the 3g logo is lit up.
My next step when I get home is to use webOS doctor and see if I can fix the OS.

Make sure you don't have another copy of Lightroom actively running on your computer. If not, find your catalog file in Finder/Explorer. Look for a file with the same name, but with a .lock extension. delete that file. Now Lightroom should open the catalog again.

I am working on a program of my own (writing it in Borland Delphi), and I would like to have access to the Repository.
One way I could think of is through the command line tools (like FScript) that come with UDS . However, I figure that there must e an 'easier' way to access the repository and retrieving/storing information.
In one of the old threads I saw that an API would become available in v4 ...
Alas ... no v4 ever saw the light. Instead of v4, the boys and girls of IPlanet/Sun went straight to v5 (and renamed their product from Forte to UDS).
I can't find the API (documentation) mentioned above ...
Does any of you guys out there have any information or, even better, examples on how to achieve access to the repository from a non-Forte application.
If I could get this to work it would mean a huge (and that should be written HUGE) step forward in reaching my goal ...

Of course there is an API to repository objects, and the SUN/iPlanet people are using it. Also in past times Forte-partners have used it. You can see the classes when you set certain cfg. flags. The problem is, there is no documentation about that API provided by SUN. If you find an expert within the community (who is not bound by a non disclosure ), it will be rather easy to set up C++ wrappers to integrate with an external (non TOOL) application.
We feel a need for documented access to the repository objects as well, as that would make several tasks of development automatization and integration with other development tools (Forte for JAVA e.g.) more straight forward.

How do I delete images from the Lightroom Catalog that are no longer on my computer!?

Something went wront on an ingest of my images. I think I tried correcting it by going into my /workingfiles folder were they were stored and deleting them manually. I'm sure I checked to see if I could do it through Lightroom, but maybe I missed the folder they were put in. I am guessing that is what happened so Lightroom still has a small image of them somewhere and will no longer let me re-import them. Any ideas on what I can do to get out of this mess? Thanks.

They are not showing up in Lightroom at all. I already deleted them.
When I try to import them again into Lightroom it wants to add another 2012 folder to wherever I am trying to insert them and then it does the month/day folder when it already has the month folder it should automatically go into and not be adding a seperate 2012 folder first.
I can't even get it to do the above right now. Now all it does is it wants to make this seperate 2012 folder with the month/day folders but has little boxes beside each folder showing that there are no images to import. The images do show up on the import screen but they are all darkened and unchecked. When I click the proper folder to import them they come on bright and have little boxes checked, but that lasts for less than a second before it decides they are not new. They are new images, I deleted them all out of Lightroom, and probably missed deleting some through Lightroom but instead deleted them straight from the folder outside of Lightroom. This is what is probably causing me such grief and I have found nothing in my searches to tell me how to correct this. *sigh*

Yes you can uncomment out that line if you want the fk column value without having to travers the relationship. The problem you are hitting when you do is because you then have the "emp_department_id" field defined twice. The error you are getting is because EclipseLink is currently case sensitive by default, so the JPA defined column name default for the emp_department_id attribute of "EMP_DEPARTMENT_ID" isn't matching the @JoinColumn(name="emp_department_id") since they are different cases - you should change the @JoinColumn so it uses an upper case field name to be consistent, ie
@JoinColumn(name="EMP_DEPARTMENT_ID") or set the EclipseLink eclipselink.jpa.uppercase-column-names property to true. This will then have the two fields match and will give you a more appropriate exception, that the field has two writable mappings.
Then you need make one of them read-only by adding the insertable=false, updateable=false to the annotation. You probably want to change the relationship, and so I'd make the int as read-only.

Dear Experts,
I have made a folder in KM where I have saved some files, and also I have made a application from where user can access those files.
But the users are able to access the files by directly typing the path of the file in internet explorer, I have to restrict it that the user should not be able to access the files directly.
Please give your helpful suggestions.

You can have a link/button react to a mouse clic by reading the KM document and putting it on the htpp flux with the correct header (this is the same kind of code that is used when you generate the pdf). As the file access is in you server-code, user will not have access to the URL...

I figured it out. You have to select the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

Is the catalog from Lightroom 5 compatible with Lightroom 6? Also, can Lightroom CC 2015 and Lightroom 6 use the same catalog?

I am a current Lightroom 5.7 user - I have purchased and installed Lightroom 6, but have not launched the program yet - will LR 6 make changes to my LR 5 catalog, such that it cannot be used in LR5?
Also, can LR6 and LR CC 2015 share the same catalog?

Lightroom 6 will require an updated database are catalog format. When you first start Lightroom 6 after you have installed it, it will prompt you to upgrade your catalog. This will create a new copy of your catalog in the new format, leaving your Lightroom 5 catalog intact and usable if you still have Lightroom 5 installed. Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC can use the same catalog. But they cannot share the same catalog because that catalog must be installed locally on both computers. The Lightroom catalog cannot be placed on a network drive.

we can access this permissions tab browsing through Details - > Settings -> Permissions , the similar way Details - > Settings -> subscriptions.
