"Apple reserves the right to refuse service on iPods that are outside their warranty if damage has occurred due to accident, abuse or misuse. In such event, Apple will return your original iPod to you without providing service, and may hold you responsible for shipping costs, plus any applicable sales tax. • Apple wo t repair my iPod as the believe it's accidental damage or abuse

I updated my iPod to the new OS on September 29th. From that very moment the update bar filled and my iPod went a shade of blue, no apple logo nothing. Wouldn't turn off. They suggested try to restore it from iTunes, wouldn't restore. Now they won't repair and my warranty is good until December. It's never been dropped its never been wet it certainly hasn't been abused :( I'm so frustrated. I also have an iPad 2 and I'm scared to update it now. I won't be buying anymore apple anything.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Refusal of Accidental Damage or External Abuse

So my dog got a hold of my iPod Nano. After he had his way with it, there was considerable EXTERIOR damage but the LCD and click-wheel were fine. The unit also turned on/off and worked fine.
However, I couldn't bear to look at my Nano with little tooth marks and indents so I went on the service microsite and explained the problem with my dog getting hold of the iPod yada yada. I got a confirmaiton email saying that I could send in the iPod and that a fee would be assessed for repair. I got the shipping box and sent out the unit. A couple of days later I checked my status online and it said "Accidental Damage and Abuse-Service Declined".
There is a couple of things wrong with this. I had specified what was wrong with the unit before I sent it in. I also got a confirmation email saying that my unit was eligible for service. I was charged $30 for the shipping and handling of the unit.
Now, I dont see why Apple didnt just change the exterior shell and charge me accordingly. I have had the unit since mid-December '05. There are 3rd party companies that offer the kind of service I am looking for but there is huge problem with that – I WILL LOSE MY ONE-YEAR WARRANTY.
Has anybody had a similar problem with Apple's service dept? Was it solved? If so please help with what can be done.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You've basically already lost your 1 year warranty, as Apple won't repair a damaged iPod. The warranty terms and conditions explictly state that accidental damage is not covered. The confirmation email you got saying your unit was eligible for service was automated, and had nothing to do with whatever you typed when you set up repair. Its very doubtful that anyone at Apple ever saw your repair request notes till the unit was in a service technicians hands.

  • Apple macbook air hinge defect -closing lid is considered accidental damage

    Hi Apple
Is closing the screen normal operations of the macbook air?
my apple air has a defect with the hinge. could apple please change your policy to accept hinge as warrant on apple air models
purchased my air 28/2/2008 from Sydney Broadway apple shop. I think this was the first day they got delivery in Sydney.
Last week when closing the screen, it was about half way down, it made a crack noise, and the hinge moved. (see photo from link below)
I have been to two apple care centres in Saigon, Vietnam this week. Spoke to apple in singapore and usa. They all told me i broke it and the damage is accidental. Offically on paper it was "it might be accidental damage, warranty repair declined"
Many people have had this problem, mostly in USA.
Below is the link to a post i made on the problem. It has a photo of my laptop hinge, it is not as bad as others, because i stopped using the air as soon as it happened

PS. Apple Air is the BEST laptop yet for me personally. light, 13" screen, full size keyboard, multitouch huge touch pad, nice casing, no dvd player and osx
    I have owned these laptops:
    compact portable iii
    dell latitude d600
    toshiba portege 3500 tablet
    fujitsu lifebook p7010
    motion ls800 tablet
    apple macbook air

If I can add my two cents... Mine broke just like the others on this thread, and almost like everybody else, the first genius I consulted with told me that it was accidental damage and that they won't cover it. I left the Apple Store and called Apple customer service, explained the situation, including the fact a 1800 $ computer shouldn't broke without reason, that there was multiple people on the internet with the same problem... a few days later, Apple called me to say that they will cover the display change under warranty. Still, i'm not impressed :
    - The attitude of the first genius was very arrogant, telling me that I shouldn't try to "steal from Apple" by trying to cover accidental damage...
    - When I got my MacBook Air back, the genius told me that they did put a new hinge design in there, which feels much more sturdy indeed. So if Apple changed the hinge design, they know there was a problem with the hinge, but they still won't change your failed hinge unless you complain : what kind of customer service is that ?
I'm feeling a class action over those first gen MacBook Air, really... 1800 $ gets you a computer that doesn't perform (kernel_task problem), with failing hardware (hinge defect).
By the way... mine have also a decoloration of the trackpad that Apple won't cover because they say it's "cosmetic". How ironic from a company who charge big preniums for design not to cover "cosmetic" issues.

  • Lack of Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) in Consumer Laptops in Malaysia

Model: HP Envy TouchSmart 15 j137tx
    OS: Win 8.1 64bit
    Hello HP,
I recently bought an HP Envy Laptop. Based on the price & specifications, I believe that it is one of the high-end products in its line. I intend to use it in long-term, which is why I invested in the high-end side of the product range.
Let me tell you about my nature of work. My job requires me to travel a lot. Meetings and audit are just a few of the regular tasks that I do and of course these kind tasks need a laptop. Therefore I bring my laptop wherever I travel. I am lucky to have all the work sites here in the Klang Valley; therefore I am able to travel using the public transportation. I use the train (LRT) a lot, which understandably puts my laptop under the risk of accidental damage.
When I bought my laptop just a month ago, I missed to consider the prospect of Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) as my insurance policy. However, I believe an established enterprise like Hewlett Packard, which has presence worldwide, would be able to offer its consumer this kind of protection. Boy how I was wrong.
I realized how important the ADP to me based on my job description and requirement and I quickly browsed my laptop web page to look for a suitable HP Care Pack. The word “ADP” did not appear so I called the Sales Hotline. My horror then came true; ADP is not offered in more than 10 HP Care Packs available for my laptop model.
I was shocked as well as enraged to discover this. I was told by the sales representative that the ADP is only available for the enterprise devices. I wonder why HP is not offering the same level of protection to its consumers. I wonder whether the enterprise client is more important than its consumers.
To my eyes, the HP products look good. It feels good. However, the customer service in my opinion is lacking. It is a sad statement but I cannot say that I am a proud owner of a HP machine.
    Dissapointed,
    Edy

This is what I call "Read the  Fine Prints" carefully before making purchases. Consumers must endowe themselves with knowledge ahead of time before making purchases on anything nowdays. Whether or not they offer it isn't something the users on here can do about it since this is a user forum not a HP support Forum. The reason why the consumer laptop is less expensive is because it doesn't have all those other extra stuff that is why they can sell it less in consumer version. What ever the demand is for inexpensive laptop and less extra stuff there will be a market for it. The consumer themselves must do the homework and find that laptop will best fit their needs and what other extras do they need for their line of work not what is pleasing to eye or least expensive to get.
I agree and admit that part of this is my error on my side.
I take this as a lesson learnt - never purchase an IT device solely based on the specifications; you have to really drill yourself to determine what you really need from your device and it's manufacturer (in my case: ADP). You also have to think long and hard because sometimes customer service is usually something that we think we do not need; usually in early stage or period of the ownership of the device, but if you plan to use it long-term, and especially when you need maximum up time and stable operability, a good customer service is probably what you want to have with your device purchase.

  • Genius bar considers it accidental damage $500 to fix

Just came from a Genius bar appointment for my brothers macbook pro because this morning he complained that the macbook doesn't sit properly on the table.
I looked at it and noticed that top right corner is higher than the other sides, causing it to wobble back and forth.
This macbook was just bought in October so i took it to them and upon one second of looking at it, he deemed it accidental damage and quoted me $500.
I asked for manager, who also refused to budge. Now what can I do? I checked google and there is no complaints department where we can voice our frustration.
The computer has never been dropped. I can notice some signs of damage by looking at the sides of the computer. But it's always been on protective cover. They said the display and the bottom case have to be replaced.
I'm so mad at this poor customer service. I asked them to show proof that we caused this damage. He's like the fact that its wobbly is prove enough.
    What can i do now?

If you are in India, contact your local service center for a price quote. I don't know if Indian service centers can replace just the back glass or if they will need to replace the entire iPhone. To locate a service center, see:

Make sure you select "iPhone" for the product time. Only certain service centers can handle iPhones.

  • HELP!my MacBook suddenly has a deadpixel. There's no accidental damage

I have MacBookPro 15 inch mid-2010, suddenly without any accidental damage, there's a deadpixel in my screen. the color is green. one line pixel at the right side. how to fix it?
I found an information that mention a mandatory about graphic card for macbook mid-2010, is that related to my problem?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The graphic card problem has nothing to do with your problem, because your display has got a dead pixel. As it's only one pixel, probably Apple will refuse to replace the screen, but you won't lose anything trying it. Make a backup before taking it in

  • IPad 4th generation with Accidental Damage Protection

I have purchased an iPad 4th generation with Accidental Damage Protection on January 27, 2013 but it's still in perfect condition and I'm using an OtterBox Defender Case.  The iPad has never been dropped even in the OtterBox Defender Case.  There will be a new iPad Air 2 coming by the end of the year.  If I want to trade in the old iPad for a new iPad Air 2 that ships with iOS 8.  What happens if I have remaining time left on the protection plan if I want to trade in for a newer iPad model?  The protection plan is unused?

    Hi Keith,
Like Mbrguy mentioned, you would be able to cancel your service plan for a pro-rated refund if you ultimately decide to trade in your current iPad through our Trade In program. If you still have the original box, documentation, and Apple accessories, then make sure to bring these in as well to ensure you receive the highest trade in value possible. Just remember to remove any accessories that weren't originally included with the device though as these parts typically do not have a trade in value.
    I hope this helps!

Your best bet would be to try resetting the password to the account that you would like to use via iForgot
Once you log in to that account change the email address to anything, it can even be fake its just a placeholder
After you do that you will be free to change your old email address on your appleID to the new one that is now free to be used as it is no longer attached to the other account.
