Aceessing 2 different dimension from same cube in 2 different packages ?

Hi All,
I would be proceesing dimensions in my SSIS packages. And i want to run packages in parallel.
Suppose i have a cube name as AdventureWorks and have 2 dimesions say A and B.
Dimesion A would get process in SSIS package A , where as dimension B would get process in SSIS package B.
Now i want to run SSIS packages A and B in parallel.
Is it possible ?

According to your description, you created two SQL Server Integration Services package to process two dimensions in the cube, now what you want to know can we run the packages A and B at the same time to process those two dimensions parallel, right?
In SQL Server Analysis Services, we can process the database object individually, such as dimensions, measure groups and partitions. So you can run SSIS packages A and B in parallel to process the two dimensions.

Make sure you donot have any data in cube. If you have some data in cube, then you will not be able to see Delete option.
Right click on the cube-->Delete data.
Then double click on the cube>Goto Edit mode> select the IO under that Dimension> right click> now you will be able to see the Delete option (provided you have deleted all the date from Cube)
Then right click on Dimension-->Delete

Comparing multiple dimensions on same cube

I have a cube with 2 dimensions: date and part#. The request is to be able to enter 2 different dates and then compare the related part data from date1 with its corresponding fields from date2.
Is this possible? I am thinking of creating a multi-provider with the same cube entered twice. The query would then prompt for 2 dates. Input date1 would go against the first appearance of the cube and input date2 against the second appearance.
Any thoughts? I am just trying to write a spec right now.

Hi Bob,
I really doubt if you can define the infoprovider twice in a Multiprovider. You may want to bring the date twice as date1 and date2 into the cube. i.e., create two chars date1 and date2 and map the original date to these two in update rules of the cube.

How do I 'remove' a dimension from a cube when creating a crosstab?

I have a CUBE with 9 dimensions and one measure, This is based of a fact table that has a Materialized View with just 4 dimensions.
In JDeveloper I used the wizard to create a new crosstab using just the four dimensions that exist in the MV (removing the others).
....eventually the page was generated but it takes minutes....
Q. Is there a way to 'DROP' a dimension from JDeveloper crosstab when you query a CUBE?
[It looks like Oracle is internally using all 9 dimensions when some are "Hidden" or not required!]
The only solution I have found is to create an extra CUBE using just the 4 dimensions (this works within couple of seconds)! But I will end up with 6 CUBES holding different dimensions combination, this feels wrong?
Q2. Is it bad practice to have multiple CUBES all based on one fact table, just to improve performace?

i think this question is more for the technical teams at the olap forum ;)
nevertheless: if you have a cube defined with 9 dimensions,all of them are necessary for retrieving the data, "hiding" some of them is possible by the means of "hidden dimensions"
nevertheless you have to specify which dimension, value gets substitued for those dimensions: usually it is a TOTAL level.
otherwise your results may be misleading or wrong, so specifying a dimension value for those hidden dimensions is the only choice to be consistent with the OLAP data model
btw: you can easily use a materialized view in this environment as well, when using the concept of a TOTAL dimension value

Webi report: Issue Cannot retrieve dimensions from Cube

Hello Experts, We're facing an issue with a partical set of Webi reports in Quality environment. The reports are BW reports based on OLAP BICS connectivity on top of Bex queries.y Below is the scenario and the issue: 1. The backed Bex queries have been trasported to Quality BW system and they're running fine when run from RSRT or Bex analyzer. 2.The Webi reports along with the BICS connections have been migrated to the Quality box and the BICS connections have been editied so that they point to the Quality BOX bex queries and they're testing and responding to the connection successfully. 3. The Webi reports pointed to the Dev Box in the Dev BOBJ system are working fine, but when the same reports for which the connections were repointed in Quality as above, are giving the error "Cannot Retrieve Dimensions from Cube". Steps taken: a. Deleted the reports and the BICS connection from Quality environment and remigrated the reports,connecitons and changed the connecitons but still the issue persists. b.Tried finding the root cause and got the following issue in the Bex query in Quality: There are filters put in the Bex query . All other filters are working fine except 0CALMONTH. We tried putting all sorts of variables on 0CALMONTH, but the moment a variable is put on 0CALMONTH, this issue occurs. But when we tried removing the variable from 0CALMONTH in filters and restricted it to a single value, the Report works fine. However the same is not an issue in the Dev Box and all queries with similar variables are working fine. So we're thinking this might be an issue on the BW backend and the cube might have to be transported again to the Quality Box. ANy quick suggestions or inputs on this would be greatly appreciated. Implementing Logical FACT & Logical dimension from 2 different data sources

Hi Gurus,
Here is my situation. We have 2 Different Data sources. One is SRMW and the other one is a different source. What we are trying to implement here is we wanted to create logical dimensions and logical facts as well in the BMM layer. For ex: w_day_d from SRMW and other time dimension from another source makes a logical table. And similarly a fact from SRMW and and another similar fact (Same data types though) will make a logical fact in the BMM.
I have done the POC of it, but the only problem is that i was able to fetch the data from only one data source not the other source.
Any suggestions ??

What I already mentioned is that you have to create multiple logical table sources and set the fragmentation content on each logical table source.
When you have two physical tables for the product dimension, for example DIM_PRODUCT_A and DIM_PRODUCT_B, you must add them to your logical table Products as two separate logical table sources and map all columns to the corresponding logical table columns on the Column Mapping tab.
Hereafter you should go to the Content tab of each logical table source and describe what content is in the logical table source.
For example for the logical table source of DIM_PRODUCT_A:
"BM"."Product"."Product Name" <= 'Product 2'
and for the logical table source of DIM_PRODUCT_B.
"BM"."Product"."Product Name" >= 'Product 3'
Then you must also check "This source should be combined with other sources at this level"
When you run a query in Answers only on the product table, two queries will be generated to get values from both tables.

Combining relation facts with dimensions from an Essbase cube

Hi!
I am having trouble combining relational measures (from EBS) with dimensions from an Essbase cube. The dimensions that we want to use for reporting (drilling etc) are in an Essbase cube and the facts are in EBS.
I have managed to import both the EBS tables and the cube into OBIEE (11.1.15) and I have created a business model on the cube. For the cube I converted the accounts dimension to a value based dimension, other than that it was basically just drag and drop.
In this business model I created a new logical table with an LTS consisting of three tables from the relational database.
The relational data has an account key that conforms to the member key of the accounts dimension in the Essbase cube. So in the accounts dimension (in the BMM layer) I mapped the relational column to correct column (that is already mapped to the cube) - this column now has two sources; the relational table and the cube. This account key is also available in the LTS of my fact table.
The content levels for the LTS in the fact table have all been set to detail level for the accounts dimension.
So far I am able to report on the data from the fact table (only relational data) and I can combine this report with account key from the account dimension (because this column is mapped to the relational source as well as the cube). But if expand the report with a column (from the accounts dimension) that is mapped only to the cube (the alias column that contains the description of the accounts key), I get an error (NQSError 14025 - see below).
Seeing as how I have modeled that the facts are connected to the dimension through the common accounts key, I cannot understand why OBIEE doesn't seem to understand which other columns - from the same dimension - to fetch.
If this had been in a relational database I could have done this very easily with SQL; something along the lines of select * from relational_fact, dim_accounts where relational_fact.account_key=dim_accounts.account_key.
Error message:
[nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail

Avneet gave you the beginnings of one way, but left out that a couple of things. First, you would want to do the export of level zero only. Second, the export needs to be in column format and third, you need to make sure the load rule you use is set to be additive otherwise the last row will overwrite the previouse values.
A couple of other wats I can think of doing this
Create a replicated partition that maps the 3 non used dimensiosn to null (Pick the member at the top of the dimension in your mapping area)
Create a report script to extract the data putting the three dimensions in the page so they don't show up.
Use the custom defined function jexport in a calc script to get what you want

Load from cube on one system to same cube on other system

If i have the same cube on two different BW systems, how can i load data from one cube to the other ?

First thing is you have to create a export data source. Right click on the cube and choose "Generate Export Datasource" in additional functions of context menu. It will generate a datasource prefixed by 8. like: 8ZTESTCUBE
Then come to another source system where you want to load the data. In rsa1 --> Source system --> choose your source system ---> Replicate --> You will get your data source you generated here.
Now create a transformation, do mapping, activate and create a DTP. Load the data.

How to populate data in fields from the same cube

HI Gurs,
Need some help. I have a cube it has 11 key figures . Data for 7 of those is coming from another cube for rest of the 4 we need to calculate from two of those 7 fields. e.g.
Field 1= Field2(First Cube) - Field3(FirstCube)
Field4= Field5(FirstCube)/1.5
Field 6 = Field1 / Field4
I need to pupulate field 4 in the final cube.
How can I achieve this?

One is as suggested by surendra i.e to populate thru End routine,take help of an ABAPer and do it.
Else just add the new 4 KF in the New Cube i.e Cube 2 and in the Individual Routine /Field Routine you can write the same Formula in the Result of it.Say,For Fields 1 you have to have Field 2,Field 3 and Field 5 as input ,which you hvae include manually in the Individual/Field Routine.
In Result for Field 1= Field2(First Cube) - Field3(FirstCube)
In Result for Field4= Field5(FirstCube)/1.5
In Result for Field 6 = (Field2(First Cube) - Field3(FirstCube) / Field5(FirstCube)/1.5)

Different Selections from same logical procedure (Mac OS 10.6.8)

Hello!
I encountered something that really made me think, but it feels wrong.
Example:
Create or open a document.
Create a horizontal guide by dragging it from the ruler.
Snap to guides must now be enabled.
Now use the marquee tool to select the upper half of the picture, with the bottom of the selection snapping to the guide.
Result:
Some times it happens that the resulting selection is different than the (logically) same selection made from the lower half of the picture to the guide and then inverted.
Effectively this means sometimes when I use a snapping guide as the limit of a selection from one direction it is not border-to-border with one drawn from the other side. Then a line of one pixel height 'behind' the guide is not selected by either one of these procedures.
Expected Result:
When the guide (which should have no width or height at all) forms the border of a selection from one side, it should be the inverse of a selection touching the guide from the other side.
Sorry this is hard to explain, do you understand what I mean?

Full request deletion from same datasource in different R/3 systems.

Hi,
I have a cube in which data is full loaded . I have a two R/3 Systems e.g. A and B. there is a standard datasource which is loading data as a full load. this same datasource is pulling data from these two R/3 Source system i.e. A and B. Now My problem is I want to remove earlier data from the same datasource from cube before new data arrives in the cube.
There are settings to be done at infopackage level, I want to know what setting shall I do so that only source system relevant data get deleted from the cube before new data with full load arrive in the cube.

you need to check:
Datasources Are the same
Source Systems Are the same
Selections are same or more comprehensive
When you start the infopackage manually, it will ask you to confirm deletion of data packages.

Duplicate Members From Same Dimension On Data Record

Hi guys, been a while but I'm back into problem land again. I got a SQL Server database with a load of records in it, some are NULL, and I use them to build a rules file called CGI_BUILD. When I run the rules file on the outline it builds fine with no errors but when it does the second part of loading the data, it kicks out an error file. The error that repeats over and over in the log is "\\ Duplicate Members From Same Dimension On Data Record". This seems to be the case for every record in the load file except for the second record. The only difference with that record is it has N/A for some of the columns instead of the regular "Retail" or "Finance" or whatever the other fields are.
I realize you have limited information here without screenshots but maybe you can help me get started on a solution. In my searching I found that some people have had this happen when the first record has an empty column in it but I can't rearrange them because there's a few columns that are empty for every record. They're there for add-ons later in the project. Any ideas?

To my outline, via SQL load, I added a new attribute dimension called Retail Region/Area:
-Retail Region/Area
--West Region : Region Manager
---Area1 : Area Manager
---Area2 : Area Manager
---Area3 : Area Manager
--East Region : Region Manager
--Factory Region : Region Manager
---Area1 : Area Manager
---Area2 : Area Manager
--Central Region : Region Manager
As you can see, it's split up into regions which have a region manager. And each region has a pile of areas which each have an area manager. The relationship for each region/area to its respective manager is 1:1.
To my rules file I added 3 new columns:
GEN1,Retail Region/Area (data = "Retail Region/Area")
GEN2,Retail Region/Area (data = Region Name : Region Manager)
GEN3,Retail Region/Area (data = Area Name : Area Manager)
I've ignored the data load and dimension build on the first 2 columns, but the third one, the lowest level, is the one data is being loaded into, among many other dimensions. The only weird thing I noticed is the last column (GEN3,Retail Region/Area) doesn't have a Field Name under the Data Load Properties. It's just blank.....but I don't think that would matter.
Now to answer your questions.....multiple columns that have members from the same dimension........it doesn't look like that's the case with the three columns I added. Am I missing it? And the rows I should be looking at......are you referring to the SQL database or the data prep editor in Essbase after loading the SQL file? I'm not converting NULL to anything that I know of. If it was preset before starting the project it's likely the same for every dimension. And as far as transformations, I'm not familiar with that so that would be a no.

How-to copy a query from a cube to another cube w/ the same structure?

Does anybody know if it is possible to copy a query, in the same system, from a cube to another cube (or multi-cube) which has the same structure?

also you can do this another way. from the main menu of BW go to Business Explorer---> Query -
> Copy.

FDM Essbase Adapter - Duplicate members from same dimension on data records

I am getting this error message when trying to export data to Essbase using FDM.
Error - Duplicate members from same dimension on data records.
Though this error looks quite straight forward, I could not find any thing in the data file to indicate the same. I even tried loading a single row data, but still got the same message.
What other things I should be looking at to fix this issue?

There are one or two previous threads on this, but this might give you some help to start with as it links to an esssbase document which gives suggestions for the error message:

another thread indicated that the first record had a blank in it and by re-sorting to have the first records with all fields populated resolved the issue (not sure on this one).
from the FDM side:
1. Are the dimensions correctly mapped in the Essbase adaptor?
2. Are the dimensions in the correct sequence for loading to Essbase.
3. Does the same value appear In more than one field (Can't remember but i think essbase didn't use to allow the same member name across dimensions).

Loading from cube to same cube failing

Hi All,
we are facing a situation wherein we have to load some data from a custom cube to the same cube with some selections.
But we are facing problem while loading it is showing error - no active update rules exists but I have already activated the update rules. the same thing in production system is working fine but in dev system it is throwing error .
Also in sm58 the trfc's are not getting processed.
in sm37 , the datapackets are having ARFCSTATE = SYSFAIL .
I have done the following checks:-
1)the extractor is working fine with the selections .
2) Loaded into PSA an then tried to load one by one data packet but failed.
3) again activated the update rules and tried to load , again failed and the same thing as mentioned above is happening.
4) in sm58 , executed f6 , the data packets were processed butb then when i run the load again it failed and the data packets were again in 'transaction executing " state .
Kindlu let me know if there is a way out .

Many thanks for the response.
Firstly , yes the same update rules etc are working fine in production expect for 1 thing , in production after every 10 days , we compress the cube . but in dev we are loading it freshly , so no compression or E table is there.
Secondly, the status of the update rules are "active , executable". the colour is green .
thirdly , we are using BW 3.5 , so we are loading thru infopackage .
forthly , It is actually a full load , so when i schedule the load , it actually hangs ( goes on and on and on ) . in sm58 , i can see trfc related to the load in "executable " state for more than 12 hrs ,. after that it goes to "time limit excceded" state . So now when i click on individual trfc , and press f6 , it disappears without any shourt dump.
And in the details tab in RSMO (data load) , under " Processing data packets " - under "update rules" -
" start of processing update rules for data target " till this message it i sgreen but after this for update rules we are getting "missing messages :update rules finished for data target".
I have checked the update rules . it is same as the production ones .
Any idea as why this is behaving like this .
