Hello,
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
1. Now I'm not able to switch on sleep mode of computer. I tried to do it using the apple menu point, computer goes to sleep but in few seconds wakes up again.
It does not happen if disconnect USB cable from UPS.
I've never seen that reported here.
2. Periodically I got a window-message about 220V power disappearance. But I know these are false events, because at the same time all other electrical devices work without problems with power supply.
The UPS is likely more sensitive than other equipment. I live in central Florida, the lightning capital of the US, and many times my UPS will click on for a fraction of a second when I don't notice the lights dimming or any other problems.
You want your UPS to be more sensitive, to protect your Mac.
Is it possible control UPS's sensitivity through USB?
That would depend on the UPS. I don't think most consumer-level UPSs are adjustable at all.
All I can suggest is trying a different USB port, cable, and combinations of the two (sometimes a plug that works fine in one port won't make good contact in another one); and make sure all connections are snug and secure.

  • What would happen if remove containers in UPS connection

We are using SP2013 on-premise. Currently our farm have setup UPS connection to entire domain. Hence, some non-users account like other system's service accounts have been sync and user profiles have been generated.
I think it is not a good security practice and consider remove all unnessary containers in the UPS connection. However it is production environment and I am worry some users' data will be lost.
Will user's user profile lost for following condition?
    1. User's container is selected before and after re-configuration
    2. User's container is not selected after re-configuration. Later on we select his container back.
    3. User account is not within selected container. Later on we place his account back to selected containers.
    Thank you!

    Hello Mark Lui,
you are completely right - it is not a good security practice to select all containers for User Profile Synchronization Service.
    In your case:
    1. User profiles will not be affected, no change.
    2. If the user container is not selected after re-configuration user profile information will not be available after the next incremental synchronization. But personal sites (MySites site collections) will be available until you delete it manually.
    3. In this case user profile will not be available. After adding it to the container that User Profile Service application synchronize and after next incremental synchronization information about the user/account will be available.
Keep in mind that site collections created for the accounts before the re-configuration will be available until you delete them manually. User profiles will be affected with next incremental or full synchronization after the re-configuration. It is also
possible users that are not synchronized to be visible under different scenarios because information about them is also kept in User Information List, which separate from User Profile Synchronization application and is not updated when you delete users/accounts
from AD. You need to delete account from User Information List manually.
Hope it is more clear now and you will find this one helpful.

  • IMac won't wake up with UPS connected

    Hi,
I have a intel core 2 extreme 24" iMac which is connected to Apc Back-ups Es BE750G. However, I am finding that if I put the mac to sleep, it will not wake up unless I hold down the power key and restart the whole machine.
If I connect the machine just using a regular power strip, it seems to go to sleep and wake up ok. However, I would like to use the UPS. Does anyone know why this maybe happening. I bought this UPS based on a recommendation in Macworld magazine - the mac sees that there is a UPS connected. But I dont know why it can't wake up. Any responses are greatly appreciated.

My BE650 works fine. Try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543?viewlocale=en_US

  • Can't get to Time capsule back-ups -- Connection Failed and "Connect As" does nothing

I had to replace my hard drive.  I am trying to access the Time Machine back-ups.  I can see the back-up volume in the Finder under the "Shared" category, but when I try to connect to the back-up volume, I immediately get "Connection Failed" and the "connect as" button does nothing when I click on it.
Do I have to re-start backups before I can get into the old back-ups??  Any advice on how to get "Connect As" to let me connect?
    Thank you.

  • APC UPS Connection methods

I have the offer of an APC on-line UPS for my various bits of Mac hardware, RAID etc. I would normally jump at it, but the APC on-line units only come with a serial interface and not USB.
I've found some software called "Apcupsd" which looks like it can handle multiple machines OK. Anyone got this going on an intel Mac (Previous Gen MacMini) via a serial connection, and if so, what USB to serial adapter did you use?

It was a tough call between the two, but have ended up with the SMT1500i. I was thinking along similar lines as you, but good to have it confirmed, thanks. I lost some kit last weekend following three brief power disruptions within an hour, so wanted to get a unit installed pretty quick.
The larger unit would have been virtually free, but I do like the SMT unit for being virtually silent until the inverter kicks in on a incoming failure.
Now wondering where I can pick up a really cheap AP9630 network card for the SMT unit, as APC have their PCNS stuff which will run on all the kit I have and solve the problem of shutting stuff down in the event of lengthy disruption, even has a Mac OS X version it seems. The "Apcupsd" software doesn't seem to support the new signalling of the latest APC units.

  • APC BACK-UPS Connectivity

I believe I've narrowed down my search for an APC UPS for use with my XServe, but I wanted to poll the community about its connectivity.
    Here's the model:
    BACK-UPS RS 1500VA LCD 120V
It comes with a USB cable, and I confirmed with APC that it was a RJ45-to-USB cable. However, the technician wasn't able to confirm that this connectivity would work seamlessly with Leopard Server's built-in UPS shutdown software. She did confirm that APC's (buggy) PowerChute software was still incompatible with Leopard.
Does anyone use this model, or another APC UPS with a Ethernet-to-USB connector? Please tell me it works!

Well, after Googling for "rj45 usb leopard apc", I finally found this blog post.

Looks like the connection should work fine.

  • Connected to Acess Point but cannot connect to the Internet - WRT54G

Yes, regrettably I know this is a common problem, but I've spent hours researching adn chatting with Linksys and trying different things, and I can't get anywhere. I have no problems getting on the Internet at the "base computer". Said base computer is on Windows XP. The computer that I am trying to connect to wirelessly is on Windows 2000. As my title suggests, it detects the router, but can't connect to the Internet. I'm using a WUSB54GC there.  Ok, on the Base computer, I have disabled the firewall. My IP config reads as follows:
    Ethernet Adapter LAN Connection:
     IP Address  192.168.1.100
     Subnet Mask  255.255.255.0
     Default Gway  192.168.1.1
    PPP Adapter (for my ISP)
    IP Address  213.178.113.182
      Subnet      255.255.255.255
      Default Gway   213.178.113.182

Exactly as above on the Ethernet Adapter
    DNS Server Addresses
            Preferred            192.168.1.100
           Alternate                      4.2.2.2
However, when I go into Internet Options/Tools/Connections/LAN Settings, the “Automatically detect settings” box is checked off. Is this a problem? Proxy server is not checked. ISP settings have nothing checked off except our username and password
COMPUTER TRYING TO ACCESS NETWORK (running on Windows 2000)
IP Config Readings for the Ethernet Adapter:
                     IP Address 0.0.0.0

                    Preferred          192.168.1.1
Alt                     4.2.2.2 Any hints? Thanks very much

Disconnect the PPP Adapter from Network Connections...
You should do the steps mentioned earlier, in addition you should remove all static ip addresses entered and then check the IP Address obtained automatically from your router, if you get a valid ip address you should try to ping 4.2.2.2, type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, see if you get 4 replies from 4.2.2.2...
Then type ping yahoo.com and see if it gives you 4 replies...If you get replies from all pings you should be able to go online...
You should adjust your browser settings if you get replies and there is no internet...
Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...

We are seeking to migrate from Oracle 10.7 to R 11i directly. Are there any specific things that we need to worry about. Apparently, others have suggested that we move from 10.7 to 11 and then to 11i. Is this really necessary? We have heavy customization and interfaces to multiple systems. Is this reason for worry?

  • How to configure a UPS?

    Hi there,
I'm using my imac here in nepal with about 12 hours powercut per day, so it's necessary to use a ups on it to work with that. Actually the ups system i have is powerful enough for it according the imac specificities (voltage etc) but still it doesn't work. I see in the system preferences "ups connected: no", so i imagine i can configure my imac to use it with a ups...
can anyone help on this please?

    Hi
    yep sorry for the post.
Actually, it's kind of ups that you connect directly on line and you plug anything on with usual electrical plug (never seen that in europe by the way, only exist here because of too many power cuts!) so it doesn't connect to usb. All my other stuff work on it actually but not my imac... anyway, i'll try another kind maybe bit more powerful. otherwise i'll have to wait for electricity everytime i'll need to work. what a wonderful thing to live in nepal with kind of technology!!!
    thanks anyway

  • Px4-300d shuts down/powers off while on UPS battery, regardless of remaining battery level

Upon line power failure, the UPS is instantly available to supply power to the px4-300d.  The UPS is adequately sized to provide well over an hour of runtime during a power failure.  The only way to have caching operate is to have a UPS connected.  With the UPS connected, the NAS sees the UPS, the current power condition, and an accurate battery power level (%).  Once the power fails, the unit begins its shutdown process and completes gracefully, even though the remaining power in the UPS battery is still near 100%.  The whole point of having UPS backup is to keep the device running for as long as possible during a power failure, and then to gracefully shut-down the device should the UPS battery level reach a critical level and line-power still not restored.  This is MANDATORY to be addressed in the next firmware release, or provide access to a configuration file that specifies the battery level percentage which triggers a shutdown.  Why choose this "Enterprise Quality" storage solution if during a power outage it shuts itself down while everything else is still operating?  Makes absolutely no sense.
    Solved!

    Hi easy-e,
What is the firmware version on your device currently?
LifeLine-based network storage devices should remain up and running normally using only UPS battery power until the UPS reports remaining battery is less than 3 minutes or below 5%. At his point, device shutdown will be triggered and your network storage device will gracefully shut down.
Have you checked to make sure it is compatible?:
What Universal Power Supply (UPS) models are compatible with my ix or px network device?
APC UPS not working with network storage device
If it is not shutting down properly, I would suggest contacting technical support to see if they can troubleshoot the cause of this problem.

  • Lion does not show UPS option in Energy Saver Pane

I'm running os x 10.7.5 on an iMac connected to a Sollatek Ultima 500 UPS.
Although System Information shows the UPS connected to a USB port, I don't get the UPS tab when choosing Energy Saver from System Pref.

  • UPS energy management

My new UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) has an USB port so I thought give it a try and see if there is Mac OS X software around.
Astounding, I encountered that there is an USP manager built right into tiger. It activates automatically as a tab in Energy control panel (or at least it should).
Unfortunately when connecting the UPS with USB to my 24" iMac dual, OSX tells me that "the device connected to the USB port consumes too much energy" (from the port I suppose and it does disactivate that port.
The UPS I use is from a local Southamerican company – or they just do their label on it, I dont know. Its called Mtek Pro+825AVR interactive UPS.
Maybe its just not compatible to usual standard UPS interface protocol? Has someone an idea? Or similar experience?
    Regards,
    Thomas

Hi mikemigs, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
A Wise Move to invest in an UPS.
If you have the USB control port on the UPS connected to the G5, and Energy Saver UPS Options set up correctly - then the G5 will Shut-Down at the appointed moment - come what may. Unsaved changes are lost.
At least - that's what happens on this G5 DP2 on an APC Smart-UPS 1000VA.
As it's an abrupt process, it's probably a good idea to run Disk Utility > Repair Permissions and Verify Disk on the boot drive, when the dust has settled.

  • UPS for mac

    I have an imac.
I live in India and I need to buy a UPS for my mac.
    Which one is reccomended??
Will the connection between the UPS and Mac be via USB??
If so where will the power cord provided by Apple be connected??

If you check your other post listed below, you will find helpful information by Jolly Giant on what UPS would work fine with your mac.
Personally, I have an APC UPS connected to my mac. It is an older model and has no USB connection which has worked fine for me. Please take note of the input voltages - as I am not sure what India uses - 220V or 110V.
