Acro 9 Pro/CS3 new install - "action valid only for product that is currently installed"

Hi,
I successfully installed CS3 on XP/SP3 followed by the Acrobat 9 Pro upgrade to 8 that was included. The install seemed fine, and I activated Acrobat 9. However, when I click the start menu icon created by the installation, the got the message "action valid only for product that is currently installed". In addition, the standard IE integration is not present. Starting a repair from the Acro Help menu doesn't seem to do anything, and the product does not appear in Control Panel Add & Remove programs.
I can start Acr 9 by navigating to the .exe in Program Files, but really need to fix the install.
Has anyone seen this and fixed it?
Also, if I (hopefully not) have to manually uninstall and reinstall, does anyone know
- how to manually uninstall Acro 9
- if uninstall destroys the activation I've already completed?

CS3 comes with AA8, not AA9. I don't know where you got AA9, unless it was a trial. As far as I know, there was no packaged upgrade to AA9 with CS3. Others can confirm that I guess. You probably need to uninstall AA9 and reinstall AA8. Then update AA8 to the current version, AA8.1.4. Bill

    hi im new to discussion groups so i might be a little slow... i came aross a problem a couple of days ago where when i clicked on itunes this came up'this action is only valid for products that are currently installed' im not really sure what to do about it!i have tried to uninstall it but it wont let me i have also tried to install a new itunes but it gets stuck and never finishes the install. i have done some research on the net about it and i think it may have occured due to deleting mcafee of my computer however there are no solutions to this problem.

    that's actually an installer error equivalent
    to the InstallShield 1605 error:

    icon? if you are clicking on a desktop icon, what is
    it called, and what does the icon look like?

  • Office 2013 - Excel 2013 - "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."

    I had Office 2010 starter and Outlook 2010 installed.  I recently purchased the Office 2013 click to run version (paid monthly subscription) and installed Office 2013.  After installing 2013 I noticed that when I opened up Excel files they would
    still open in Office 2010.  I uninstalled Office Starter 2010 and uninstalled Outlook 2010.
    I then manually fixed the file associations for Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and such, however I could not manually fix the Excel file association. 
    Excel documents show the correct icon however when I double click on them the following error appears "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
    I have used the Office 2013 repair process, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2013, I have manually uninstalled office 2013 using KB 2739501 (

    Recently I found that I can not do mail merges either using Excel documents as the data source and I believe the two items are related.
    Any suggestions?

    Please try to turn off compatibility mode and then check the issue again. To do this, please follow:
    1. Open this folder location:
    For Windows 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15
    For Windows 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15
    2. Find Excel.exe, right-click it, and choose Properties.
    3. Click on the Compatibility tab and ensure that all of the boxes are
    un-checked.

    I am trying to open iTunes and I keep getting this error message. I try the shortcut, going through the start menu and I can not open iTunes. The program has not been uninstalled and I have even tried reinstalling with no success. I think a link is broken in the file, but I am not sure how to correct this.
    I have all of my music on an external hard drive (if that helps at all). I just want to get back into my iTunes again.
    Please help!

    okay let's try this procedure.
    first head to Windows Update to make sure you're fully up-to-date in that regard.
    next, head into Add/Remove and attempt to uninstall any existing QuickTime you have showing up in there. if it goes, good ... if not, we'll attend to it when we attend to itunes.
    next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and then use it to remove any itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information you find on the PC:

    now use the instructions in the following document as a guide for manually removing any leftover itunes and QuickTime program files:
    Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
    now download and save a fresh copy of the itunes installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

    Just download, install, and activate using your serial number.  You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines.  If you do not wish to retain the original installation as a backup you can deactivate it by opening one of the programs and choosing Help -> Deactivate.

    If you need your serial number you should be able to find it in your Adobe account online if you registered the software when you first installed it.

    We have Windows 2008 r2 TS, on which we have MS office 2007 Standard installed. There are almost 50 users on this particular machine.
    The problem is we get an error message when we try to open a .txt file in Excel (Right click on .txt file--> Open with --> Excel). Error message is as follows  "this action is valid for the products which are currently installed".
    Previously this was faced by all users so we completely reinstalled it, which worked, except for 1 user.  Currently i have recreated the profile for that particular user but that also didn't helped.
    A drag-drop approach works but user don't want it that way.  
    Now am clueless in terms of where should i look into. Any help would really be helpful.

  • Acro Pro XI  - boo.  two license charges for dual-boot

    Who do I contact to petition for change in Adobe Acro Pro license restrictions which demand double payment for me alone running one instance of Acro Pro at different times on a dual-boot Mac Book Pro, sometimes under Snow  Leopard, and sometimes under Mountain Lion??  These two environments do not run at the same time. This is not a Parallels or VMWare question.
      I rely on Acro Pro, it's critical. I need it, and don't want to pay twice for it or be committed to using Acro Pro in only one of these environments or the other, but not both. I switch back and forth between them frequently.
    I may be one of the few people on the planet with both SL and ML on the same HDD on the same machine, cross-mounting my *one* home directory and /Applications from the newer ML installation back to SL.  Even complex applications like XCode3 and XCode4, work just fine where the newer version doesn't run under the older operating system. Amazingly, most all other apps, excepting this issue with Acro Pro are Apple-copeceti, and just work.
    When Acro Pro XI pops up under ML from it's SL installation, it finds the 'fingerprint' of the machine changed, complains, and exits.

    A retail license for Acrobat XI Pro is good for 2 machines so there should not be any problem using it on you MAC unless you have tried activating on a 3rd computer else where.

  • Installing Snow Leopard on a MacBook that is currently running Tiger

    Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on my MacBook that is currently running Tiger? I have heard rumors that Leopard must be installed before Snow Leopard will work. I bought a white MacBook about three and a half years ago with Tiger installed.

    1. The Snow Leopard installer itself runs the equivalent of Disk Utility's verify disk step on the volume selected for the install, so while this remains a good idea when upgrading to Leopard or other previous OS versions, doing it as a separate pre-install step is not necessary or likely to improve anything when upgrading to Snow Leopard.
    In this respect the installer is quite finicky: if the volume doesn't pass verification, it will refuse to begin the install.
    2. Aside from that, the installer is only finicky about two other things regarding format: (a) the drive must be formatted with the GPT (GUID Partition Table) partition scheme (the scheme the drives of all Intel Macs ship with) & (b) the table must conform to the standard GPT format. If the drive doesn't meet these criteria, the installer marks any volumes on it as not suitable for the install & users can't select them.
    3. Some users seem unaware of just how different the Snow Leopard installer is from the earlier ones. When Apple talks about streamlining it in the product's blurb, it refers to much more than just eliminating the old Archive & Install and Erase & Install options, notably:
    • Unlike the old Upgrade option, SL's version completely replaces the existing OS component files with the ones from the installer's 'payload.' (The old Upgrade option just replaced or patched components that had been changed for that OS version.) This is why the single provided option is equally suitable for a volume that contains an existing OS or an empty one. (It's also why upgrading from Leopard or Tiger works essentially the same way.)
    • The new installer doesn't create a "Previous Systems" folder like the old Archive & Install did. There is no reason for this largely redundant folder anymore, since the new installer selectively leaves in place user-added items from the old system folders that they previously had to move back into those folders manually if they wanted to restore their functionality. However, if the "Previous Systems" folder exists because a user did an A&I with an older OS installer, the new one leaves it in place. But since the new OS ignores it, just as previous ones did, this has no effect on OS operation.
    • If -- but only if -- users start the install process by launching the "Install Mac OS X" pre-install application while running from an installed OS, that app will use the installed OS's network settings to 'phone home' to Apple's database of software known to be incompatible with Snow Leopard & use that info to decide what if anything to move to a root level "Incompatible Software" folder during the install. The DVD has its own short list, but since that list was created before the DVD was made, it is now out-of-date & incomplete. Thus, it is always a good idea to start the install this way when possible, just as Apple recommends.
    • Other minor refinements that only work if there is an existing OS include automatically deciding if Rosetta or Quicktime Player 7 should be installed, automatic language selection for the install process, & enabling the 'install drivers only for local & nearby printers' option. Each of these depends in some way on what's already installed.
    4. All these refinements do not make the new installer 100% reliable but they eliminate the most common problems users had with the older ones, especially if they follow Apple's instructions & *do not* erase the drive beforehand. Just as the Installation Guide included on the disc (also available online here) says in the "Advice about installing" section, erasing the drive should be reserved for the rare times when the normal method fails.

    In case you're not clear - iPad/iPhone storage, and iCloud storage, are totally separate. Buying more iCloud storage does not give you more storage space on your device. Your device has a fixed storage space for apps and data (e.g., 16GB - which is more like 12GB in real terms). iCloud storage just allows you to store more documents, mail, photos, etc, in the cloud.

    I would like to connect the solman helpesk with CHARM ( CHARM is still running ).
    In CHARM I have to create a CR only for production system. ( don't know why - but works as designed).
    In SAP helpdesk I can create support messages for every kind of system type but if I want to connect both (HD and CR) , the source system (ibase component) of the issue will copied to the CR and runs in error because of the rule (only p-system) of CHARM.
    Of course I can change the ibase to production system manually in SDCR but it seems a very error-prone method.
    Now my question: is it possible to change the ibase component due to the creation of CR by copy rule or something like this?

    Hi Rayko,
    We do not have this option.
    Once in ChaRM, we assume that the changes will always correct an issue in the PROD system.
    I would recommend to open the tickets directly with the PROD system IBase, once the issue is also happening there.

    yes, I also use thomas' suggestion using
    t000-cccategory = 'P'.
    to determine productive client.
    Just one small hint: I found this condition as true in a test system: The admin had done a system copy to create a fresh test client - but forgot (or did not see a good reason) to change t000-cccategory = 'P. to  t000-cccategory = 'T'.
