Acrobat 9 fails to update in OSX 10.8

Update 9.5.2 will not work.  It suggests you uninstall and reinstall.  Can't uninstall - error message there as well.  Turns out Acrobat 9 is not compatible with 10.8 (though it still works).  It took me 2-hours, 2 chat sessions and 1 phone call to finally get that answer.  Seems logical that Adobe would have a "smart" system where it would tell the user the incompatibililty issue rather than suggesting I do something (reinstall) that I can't do.

In my opinion, Mac OSX has lots of problems partly because Apple OS was not originally designed to run on Intel Based machines.  Now that they are working on it, it may take some 3 to 5 years to iron out all the problems with Macs.!!  By that time people would have found other solutions and different operating systems!

  • Updates Fail after reinstall of OSX 10.6.2

    Hi
I really need some help please!!
I have just reinstalled OSX on my iMac i5 to 10.6.2 and no combo update will work. All i keep getting is "install fail"
I have tried downloading combo update for support page and via software update in OSX and get the same problem. I have also tried installing in safe mode and repairing permissions and no luck.
    Please HELP!!!

from the disk supplied with my machine.
That is not a "how." That's like responding to the question "How do I build a treehouse?" with the answer "Use a hammer." What, exactly, did you do? We need details! Also, why did you reinstall Mac OS X? Were you having problems, and if so, what kind?
Also every time i download the update and verify it i get "invalid checksum"
There may be some issues with your machine that are interfering... such as a damaged hard drive. We'll be able to say more once we've got better answers to the questions above.

  • Unable to install Acrobat 8.2 Standard update

I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.2 update and it always fails with the error"Internal Error 2254. , Registry"
I have tried this on both Windows 2000 and XP and get the same error.
Prior to the patch install, the product version was 8.1.7
The same patch also applies to Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 and I was able to install it without any issue.

Are you doing this manually by going to the update site and downloading the update, or by the Adobe automatic update process?

  • Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(Error code: 1)

Hello, I'm running a MacBook Pro Retina with Yosemite 10.10.2.  I tried to update Creative Cloud Desktop manager and then tried to cancel it (it was killing my bandwidth while I was trying to work).  It disappeared from the bar at the top of the OSx screen.
I couldn't get it back.  I restarted my machine.  When I clicked on Creative Cloud this time, I was prompted to update, but almost immediately got an error.  There are other mentions of Error Code 1 on the forum, but they appear to be first time installations, not updates.  Suggestions welcome!  Thanks
Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(Error code: 1)
    Update:
Still no success.  I tried the instructions here: Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application  which says to uninstall Creative Cloud.  I got an error: "Unable to uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop.  Quit Creative Cloud desktop and try again."  But CC desktop is not running.  I had a look in activity monitor and didn't see anything.

Okay - I think I resolved this by closing some stalled processes in Activity Monitor, then restarting Creative Cloud desktop, then updating in the normal way.

Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work. I can't uninstall program. Error upon error.

    Hi John,
I'm trying to install the SunMC 3.5.1 Console on
Windows XP with not much success. The install
displays the initial splash screen, but then fails
    with the error :
    The install wizard cannot proceed.
Aborting installation now...First, are you installing from a complete SunMC CD or CD image? If you just copied some files out of a CD/image you may have missed some jar files.
SunMC Consoles don't like to share systems with older versions of themselves. Try moving/renaming the directory your 3.5 Console is installed in (or uninstall it if you don't need it),... then try putting 3.5.1 in again.
All my demos/work/courses are on 3.5.1 on an XP laptop, so I know it works.
I think it's probably just not happy about 3.5 already being installed... so just move it out of the way for awhile to get 3.5.1 in (then put 3.5 back so you can have them both).
    Regards,
    Mike
The Java version is 1.4.2_03 .
The Release Notes etc don't give any clues.
Strangely, SunMC 3.5 works fine on this desktop..
Any ideas as to where I can go from here? This is
effectively stopping me from going from SMC 3.5 to
3.5.1, unless I can get the Console working..
Has anyone else had problems with SMC 3.5.1 on XP?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

  • Acrobat pro 9.0 update needed

I own a DVD set of CS3 Design Standard for Mac, including a second DVD named CS3.3 including Acrobat 9.
I could not access the DVDs with the Remote Drive function of OSX (I am on a Macbook Air now, without DVD drive). Thus I downloaded CS3 from Adobe and entered the serial number. Works. However, I cannot update to 3.3/Acrobat 9 as there is no download available from Adobe for Mac.
Using a proper external DVD drive should work, I guess - if I can get hold of one, not much motivated to buy one, though.
Or is there another possibility of updating?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Jeff, thanks.
    I'll try the USB thing.
However, I do not think that this is aspecific  Acrobat issue, as the
original CS3 DVD didn't work either through remote, so I downloaded it
    from Adobe, which worked fine.

  • Acrobat 7 - Check for updates ends at 7.1.0

While updting some older copies of Acrobat I noticed that the Check for updates now... feature in Acrobat 7 only shows updates available up to 7.1.0. Three newer udates are available, 7.1.1, 7.1.3 and 7.1.4. Since I see this behavior on multiple machines I assume this is standard behavior for Acrobat 7 Update Manager per Adobe. If that's the case this kinda defeats the purpose of having a check for updates comand in the app if users have to go manually download the updates anyway. Can anyone shed any light on what's up?

Acrobat 8 was introduced at the time of the 7.1.0 Update.
There were no added features were in the updates after.
And most of the updates that followed were bug fixes and security updates.
the very most recent ones were security Updates.
Most "Reputable" Software companies will do Security Fixes on software for many years until they feel that no one is or should be using that product.
Its just recent that Apple has stopped supporting OSX.4.11. (Now I've got to find X.5 to put on the slow computer myself.)

  • Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Reader 9: cannot update, remove, or re-install ...

After I have downloaded Acrobat Professional 9.0 updates and Acrobat Reader 9 updates, both update installations fail.
    Acrobat Reader 9 problems
I thought that there could be a conflict between Acrobat Reader 9, which I have also installed, and Acrobat Professional 9.0, so I tried to remove Acrobat Reader 9, but the patch package could not be found. I then ran the Windows Install Cleanup tool, but Acrobat Reader 9 is still on my system. I now cannot reinstall it, nor can I really remove it
I’d like to remove Acrobat Reader 9 entirely because I already have Acrobat Professional 9.0, but how?
    Acrobat Professional 9.0 problems
When I try to remove Acrobat Professional 9.0 in order to re-install it from disk, I get the message that the patch package could not be found. When I insert the disk to try to repair Acrobat Professional 9.0, I get the message that the patch package could not be opened. When I try to use the Repair Acrobat Installation option in the Help menu of the program, nothing happens.
I’m hesitant to run the Windows Install Cleanup tool on Acrobat Professional 9.0 because of the problems I got with Acrobat Reader 9 after running the Windows Install Cleanup tool.
How can I re-install Acrobat Professional 9.0 from disk?

    Amanda,
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.

  • Acrobat 8 Fails to Run on Windows 8 (64)

I have had several Acrobat Professional apps, including Acrobat Professional 7 (serial number 1118-1784-3666-3609-3800-6837) but when I upgraded Windows XP to Windowsa 7 (64) It didn't run. I also had PhotoShop CS and Adobe directed me to your web site where I could download a PhotoShop CS that would run on Windows 7 and Acrobat 8. PhotoShop runs fine. When I try to load Acrobat 8 I get a message that another Adobe app needs to be open also. I open PhotoShop cs and then open Acrobat 8, but it stills shuts down. How do I solve this problem.

Okay .. after EVERYTHING was working WELL I made the mistake of taking an ADOBE UPDATE to my Photoshop CC.  Directly following THAT update (from ADOBE) both LR and PS fail as before.   Since ONLY Adobe made changes to my computer, how can Apple be the culprit?  As a matter of fact, even though my coverflow is NOT on, both LR and PS open their diaglogs in that view and I am unable to change that.  Certainly my Adobe programs are revealing this issue.  It sounds from your note above that Adobe is just treating it like an Apple issue.
Fortunately I did take a Time Machine backup BEFORE installing the Adobe updates so I can roll back.
    UPDATE:
I opened InDesign and the open dialog opened in CoverFlow and failed.  The next time I used the open dialog I quickly changed the view to details (InDesign runs a little slower so I was able to do that).  Once I had changed the view, no problems .. all fixed (in InDesign)
Since I had successfully changed the view from CF to details in InDesign, I figured "maybe" all the adobe programs would recognize the change.  I then successfully opened Photoshop, which now opens with the details view and is successful.
At least I know HOW to make it work if it gets messed up again .. which happens whenever I update an Adobe program.
My finder was in DETAIL view before and after my updates.
The ONLY place where coverflow showed up was in the Adobe programs.

  • Acrobat Pro won't update from 10.1.6 to 10.1.7, any tips, on Mac-

Acrobat Pro won't update from 10.1.6 to 10.1.7, any tips, on Mac…?

    One of two things:
    1.  Go to the Terminal App and type the word "sudo" and hit the Enter/Return key.  If it comes back with a permissions error then seek from Apple to correct it.
    2.  If there is no permissions error in the Terminal app then go to the installation log at "/var/log/install.log" or "/private/var/log/install.log".  Open it up and see if you find an error about failing to write to the file:
./postinstall: Error in converting the plist /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist to xml1 format
If you get the error above then delete the file at the location and try updating again

  • SINCE UPDATING TO OSX MAVERICKS I HAVE SOME ISSUES..PLS ADVISE

First thing i noticed,is that swiping between pages in LAUNCHPAD is unresponsive, sometimes i just CAN'T swipe to other page...THIS IS KIND of a HUGE DEAL...WHY????? I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH TRACKPAD?(scrolling in safari, swiping in other apps, going to mission control is without any problem, that's why its so weird...It just wont work in LAUNCHPAD)
Second problem,in my launchpad appeared an icon called READ ME UPDATE right after updating to OSX MAVERICKS....Thing is,i cant open it,i cant delete it,i cant do anything with it...WHATS HAPPENING??
And my LAST issue is also very ironic, because MAVERICKS promised better power management, but so far, whatever app i open and use,my FAN goes like crazy, from my totally silent MACBOOK became a HOWLING MONSTER...(this issue also came up right after updating to MAVERICKS,i didnt download anything after this update, just to be clear that no viruses could have gotten into my Mac by my fault)
    Apple PLEASE DO SOMETHING..
So far updating to OSX MAVERICKS only brought issues to my,MacBook Air i NEVER HAD...
    PLEASE ADVISE SOMEONE

  • Acrobat keeps asking to update after I've updated.

    Currently using:
    OSX 10.6.4
    Acrobat Pro v 9.3.4
The pop-up updater says 9.4.0 is available and asks to install. I've "installed" it several times,  but it has never updated, and will pop up again every few days.

There's not an error message, either. It says Acrobat has successfully been updated.

Assuming your network is working for other activities, and it's just the Mac App Store that's failing...
Try restarting the download within the Mac App Store.
Failing that, restart Mac App Store and try restarting the download again.
Then failing all that, I'd close Mac App Store, reboot the system, and open and try the Mac App Store download again.
