Acrobat Pro 6 Commenting tools disappear

Hi.
One of our big clients are experiencing some, for me at least, strange problems.
A while ago the two tools, Commenting, and Advanced commenting started to disappear from the Tools menu.
When they reinstall Acrobat 6 it is there again , but after some days it is gone again ??
Everything else in Acrobat 6 pro still works just fine
we are talking about more than 50 users, it has been working fine for more than 4 years,
the clients are installed via Microsoft SMS.
Does anybody have any good ideas about what the problem can be
Best regards
Niels.

  • Acrobat Pro XI comment tool severe lag with rMBP

Acrobat Pro XI on 15" rMBP works okay (still blurry, very frustrating), but when I try to use a "comment", everything slows down dramatically.
I need to know if this is an issue with my settings, my computer or with the Adobe product?  If the product, is this a known issue that is in the works for resolution?
If not, I need to search for a different product for my workflow.

    Hi,
we have exactly the same problem. Try to measure something. It will work. Try again to measure again and again and at some point it will fail and Acrobat crashes. Ich have the latest Update v11.0.09 installed.
I have recently setup a brand new PC. It worked for a few weeks, but now we have again the crashs. I will try to delete the preferences and see what happens.
    This is very annoying....
    Kind Regards

  • Acrobat X Pro: Put commenting tools in toolbar (like 9 Pro)??

I just udated from CS 4 to CS 5.5. I am hoping I am dead wrong, but when I open Acrobat X Pro the commenting interface looks just like Reader X. There does not seem to be a way of placing commenting tools on the toolbar, as you could in version 9 Pro. I use these features every day for several hours.
Please: someone tell me I am wrong about this: I really need to set it up much more like 9.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 - Comments and Stickies vanish and reappear when clicked!

Very strange problem, I'm having. If I add comments, stickies or callouts to a PDF, everything is great UNTIL I click off of the item being created. The item immediately disappears with no indication that anything is there (ie: a sticky "bubble" icon).
I know these items are still in the file because if I click in the area where a sticky was created, it instantly reappears, but only temporarily. But the minute I click again on something else or off the sticky itself, all comments and stickies disappear again. Same thing with callout objects.
So they ARE in the file - I have verified it. I can save and reopen the same PDF in Adobe Reader, and everything appears as expected - all of these elements are visible all the time, and respond as expected. Just absolute wackiness in Acrobat Pro 9.
This was never a problem in Pro 8 or earlier. I don't have Pro X to try.
All preferences for comments have been checked and tested. All comments were set to "show". Toggling the settings does not help. It happens in any pdf file being modified in Acrobat Pro.
The comment List does show me the full list and contents of the stickies, but in the main window - nothing shows up until I blindly find the right spot and click!
    Very frustrating, indeed!
Working with a relatively new 27" Core i5 iMac with 8GB RAM running OS X 10.6.6.
    Any ideas?

Try using a program like Onyx or Applejack to clean all user caches. You can also try to remove the Acrobat 9 preference file. It may have become corrupt.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 Link Tool

    Hi,
I am using the link tool in Acrobat Pro to link certain parts of a pdf document and then have the pdf accessed from a web browser
The links work fine on the browser, but it want the linked document to open in a new browser window. (ie: target=_blank)
It is currently opening it up in the same browser
Any ideas how to achieve this ?
    Thanks
    Geoff

Thanks for your suggestion. I've worked with one file at a time. So this is not an exactly answer. I'm afraid it's not possible to find a right solution: my problem has disappeared after another restart... So I'm confused now once more time. Maybe I should reinstall Acrobat - I've got upgraded version. But on the other hand: this software have worked fine for a couple of months.
Conlusion: the problem is magically resolved and normal solution remains unkown. I'm curious about it.
    Greetings

  • Acrobat Pro 9 Crop Tool

When I try to use the crop tool in Acrobat 9 it will not let me be precise with the crop, like the area I draw is constrained. This just started about a month ago.
    Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Mr. Johnson you are brilliant!....or I am stupid. That was it.

  • Acrobat Pro Formulaires: comment activer l'option visible à l'écran et à l'impression?

    Bonjour,

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Portfolio Editing Tools Disappeared?

Hello, I created a portfolio in Acrobat 9 Pro. I saved the file. When I reopen the file, all of my editing tools which are usually in a menu bar on the top of the document, are no longer available to me, ie. the "form", "multi-media" tabs. There is only one tool menu with a "modifiy" tab, which I set to "edit", but the only tools that become available to me are the "edit portfolio tools" that show up on the right hand side of the screen. How do I get back to a point where I can edit this document and add multi-media files?
I attached a pic of what the program looks like now, without the tools I need.
    Please help
    Robyn

What you are seeing is correct. The tools you are looking for (form, multi-media, etc) are all PDF document editing tools. However, a portfolio file isn't actually a document. It's a collection of files pulled together in a sort of a PDF wrapper.
The official definition from the help documentation:
A PDF Portfolio contains multiple files assembled into an integrated PDF unit. The files in a PDF Portfolio can be in different formats and created in different applications. For example, suppose you have a project that includes text documents, email messages, spreadsheets, CAD drawings, and PowerPoint presentations. You could combine all of these documents into a PDF Portfolio. The original files retain their individual identities but are assembled into one PDF Portfolio file. Users can open, read, edit, and format each component file independently of the other component files in the PDF Portfolio.
You can add multi-media files to the portfolio a number of ways, most commonly this is done via drag/drop, clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the portfolio window when it's in edit mode (what you have pictured), or selecting those same options (add files, add existing folder) from the modify menu in the portfolio toolbar.

  • How can I manage to install Acrobat Pro XI in Safari ?

    Pascal Guernier May 5, 2014 8:26 AM
    Hi,
Someone can tell me how I can manage to install Acrobat Pro XI as the default PDF reader ?
Before I tried to remove Acrobat Reader XI from my MacBook Pro retina under Mac OS.X.9.2. With the help of Apple's phone support.
We did clear all caches in libraries and in other places. But, rapidly perhaps, I've deleted a folder name Reader with The XI version ? Was it Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro ? I don't know ?
Thank you for support because I'm in the french's taxes declaration...
    Best,
    Pascal

    Thank you for your question.
First because I was unable to save a document with a right click. Just able to print, rotate and nothing more. And a mini left screen's menu. Except thumbnails and page number, no option.  And all the Acrobat Tools were not proposed. Such edit, remove a page. Optimize And so on.
So I did believe it was a reduced version of Acrobat pro : Acrobat reader. A good tool too.
The possible solution suggested by an another user was to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat Pro.
In fact I succeeded by unistalling Acrobat Pro XI with the appropriate tool : an uninstaller. Located in the an adobe folder in Utility Tools. So I uninstall Acrobat Pro correctly. A cleaner is proposed for windows system at labs.adobe.com
And I erased by throwing it, in the TrashCan, Acrobat READER.
Then with Creative Cloud tool and my account I reinstalled Acrobat Pro XI.
And then I followed Adobe's manual tips. First I chose a Pdf file. With a right click. And in the contextual menu I chose Informations. Then I selected Acrobat Pro XI as THE défaut reader. With an option named Complete too. In order that any PDF file will be opened by Acrobat Pro XI.
    And it seems to work.
But your question is pertinent. Because if I had after a way to save the document with a Save icon, this doc. was a sensible one : my income taxes of 2013 provided by the french ministry of finance...
So I was able to save this doc. And after in Acrobat Pro with usual tools I did compile all the compulsory others pdf docs.
    Thank you and Best regards
    Pascal

  • Can I convert a PDF to a Microsoft Word Document in Acrobat Pro?

Does Acrobat PRO have the tools to convert an existing PDF to a Microsoft Word Doc?

Yes, but the quality of the conversion depends on the structure of the PDF itself. Be prepared to recognize that the conversion may not be perfect if the PDF structure is not proper. You may also want to try the option to retain the format versus the text flow.

  • Optimize a large number of pdf files using Acrobat Pro XI

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and need to optimize a large number of scanned files and other pdf's that are quite large. Is there any way to optimize multiple files at the same time, or do I have to do them one at a time (a major bummer if this is the case). I read on the forums that Acrobat Pro 9 had this capablity, so I can't imagine that a newer version wouldn't have it. Thanks for your help.

You can use an Action to process multiple files in Acrobat Pro XI, via Tools - Action Wizard.
Add to it a Save command and there you'll be able to specify that you want to optimize the file.

  • Can someone help us get the COMMENTS ATTACHMENT TOOL to work as described in Acrobat Pro XI?

Our company is trying to switch from paper based reviews to the electronic shared reviews, and Adobe XI was selected. (Window 8, Acrobat XI) However, we are having a great deal of difficulty.
Our problem is that we would like to be able to attach small files (Word, jpeg, etc.) during the Send for Shared Review as described in the videos and online help.
What we have experienced is this:
    1. A reviewer attaches the file using the Comments paperclip, publishes the Comments, and then closes.
    2. When they, another reviewer, or the initiator opens the document, the Name of the file changes to "Unknown" and the name of the file w/ extension appears in the Description in the Attachments list. This makes the file unopenable.
Has anyone else experienced this?  During the initial period while the file name still appears under Name in the Attachments list, it is openable.  When that name shifts to the Description field it is lost.
Here is how we are doing it:
Choose the paperclip under Comments - Annotations
Choose the place in the document and click it to select.
Choose the file from the popup box and click Open.
Click OK to select the icon, and it is placed in the document.  The file name now appears in the list of Attachments in the left side of the document.  Using the single arrow (to the right) it shows the attributes (Name, Description, Modified, Size, Compressed Size.)  The name appears under Name, the Description is blank, the Modified, Size and Compressed Size fields are filled in. Since everything is completed, press Publish Comments.
When the initiator or another reviewer opens it, the name is now Unknown and the file name is under Description and there is no way to identify the file or open it.
Can someone please help us with what we are doing wrong?  They make it sound so simple, but nothing we try works. This was one of several feature that management really wanted.
    Thanks, Diane

    Hello Anoop,
    1. We are hosting our Shared Review Workflows on our internal network server using Windows 7 (not 8), 64 bit.
    2. Yes, all the other reviewers and I are using the most current version of Acrobat Pro.IX or Acrobat Reader (version 11.0.08) with the exception of one reviewer who is using Acrobat Reader 8.
The reviewer using Adobe Reader 8 is the only one who does not have the problem.  She attaches a file in a slightly different manner (Attach file as a comment) and her file attachments can be opened and viewed by everyone.
I have discussed this in the Adobe User Community Bulletin Board for "How to work with comment tools in Acrobat XI."  Lori Kassuba was able to replicate the problem during a shared review and thinks it may be a bug:
The title of the entry is:
How to work with comment tools in Acrobat XI
You can see the comment at the following URL:
    http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-work-with-the-comment-tools
    Hi Diane Yarger,
I was able to replicate the same thing during a shared review so I think you may have run into a bug. Please post this issue here:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&loc=en
    Thanks,
    Lori
As Lori suggested, I reported this problem as a potential "bug" to the cfusion link above. No one has contacted me about it.

  • Compare Documents tool in Acrobat Pro 9

I'm assessing the Compare Documents tool in Acrobat Pro 9 for business use, and have some very specific questions about its functionality:
When I initially load a pair of PDFs to compare, occasionally Acrobat refuses to accept them as anything but "scanned documents" even though they are fully electronic-sourced PDFs created in, usually, Adobe illustrator.  What are the specific criteria that cause Acrobat Pro to force the "scanned documents" type?  Is it related to the presence of only "flattened"/"outlined" text instead of embedded fonts?  Lack of layers?  Some other graphical feature?  How do the comparison parameters/performance change when the loaded docs are designated as scanned rather than one of the other types?
Second, when I've done a Compare on two nearly identical documents and then call up the "old and difference images" display - is there any way at all to manipulate this display?  Some of my docs are large - potentially full press-sheet size of around 24" x 40", and when the differences between them are tiny (e.g., a change in only a few Braille dots over the entire graphic) the on-screen rendering of the "difference image" side of the display is relatively tiny and practically useless, although it contains exactly the information I need to see.  Can it be grabbed/stretched/magnified/saved/printed/analyzed some other way besides how it is?  It seems to disappear literally at the first mouse-motion or key-touch, which is incredibly frustrating.  Are there any changes or improvements in this feature in version 10.x over version 9.2.0 (which is the latest version my company has approved)?
Third, also at the post-compare stage, the feature tags a small printer info block in a corner of the document with "This image was replaced" even when I know the info block has not been changed.  Why could this happen?

Sounds like you want to do this on a server, but you should know that Adobe Acrobat cannot legally be used on a server.
For server-based PDF operations you can look at Adobe LiveCycle products or our Adobe PDFLibrary (available in both Java and C++)
