Acrobat Pro Form Creation Question

I have created a form for myself and other employees to fill out and save the completed form.  Is there a way to set the form that once the form is filled and you push save, that you can only save as a new file name and not actually save and overwrite the original saved form?

You could lock the file or if you are a Mac only environment you could mark it as stationery.

  • Acrobat 9 Form Creation: Drop Down List Has Blue Background

I am creating a form using Acrobat 9 on Windows Vista Pro. I have several drop down list fields. These fields have a dark blue background that is visible even when the pdf is printed. I have tried changing field's Appearance property to "No fill color", but this has no effect whatsoever. Turning off "Highlight Fields" also has no effect.
I've found a couple of questions on forums using Google about this matter, but no answers.
Is there any way to turn off this blue background?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bruce,
This forum is specific to Designer, which comes with Acrobat Pro 9. It will be easier to create this type of functionality in Designer (compared to achieving it in Acrobat).
Designer creates XFA Forms, which are wrapped in a PDF. The user doesn't see any difference: eg they see a PDF which will open in Acrobat/Reader. However for user with Reader to be able to save the data they input, the form must be reader Enabled. This is a topic in itself and there are many discussions on the forums - just try a quick search.
    Now to the question...
Yes, you can achieve this with some script. Basically you would need script in the preOpen event of the Business sub-category, which would look back at the selection in the Business category. Based on this value, the script would populate the sub-category with appropriate items.
There is an example here: http://assure.ly/jcTahK.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Acrobat Pro Extended feature questions

    Hi,
I am testing Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended to evaluate usability within the company I work for. During my testing, I have run across some questions about Pro Extended functionality. I would appreciate any information or suggestions you may have regarding these questions. Thanks in advance!
    1. Adobe 3D Reviewer in Pro Extended experiences a run time error and exits when attempting to delete a part (subassembly) from the model tree using the "delete" menu option on the right mouse context menu of the model tree item. This occurs in both .u3d files and .pdf files. Is this a known issue, limitation or is there a fix for attempting to delete parts from a model? (perhaps a problem on my installation?)
    2. I have used 3D comments on a 3D model and they are very useful since they are "anchored" to particular locations on the part/assembly being commented on. Can the comment text box itself be resized? Can the font size used for the 3D comment be resized? Once created, can 3D comments be edited in either Pro Extended or 3D Reviewer?
    3. The model tree in 3D models is useful for viewing/hiding parts of a 3D model. Do the plus signs (+) used to traverse the model tree have an "Expand All" option or must every + sign be clicked to traverse subassemblies (these can be numerous!). This may not be a supported feature. Is there any plan for it?
Thank you again and I appreciate your input.

    Hi Jesse,
Here are some answers that should help in your evaluation:
    1) i believe you are still using a beta version. this bug has been fixed in the released version. you can find a trial version at the following location:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatproextended/tryout.html
    2) yes the 3D comment box can be resized by clicking in the upper left corner and dragging the mouse or moved to a different location by clicking in the lower right corner and dragging the mouse.
yes you can change the size/color of the 3D comment text by going to Edit>Preferences, clicking on Measuring (3D) and changing the settings: Measure Feedback Size, 3D Measuring Line Color
once created, you cannot edit the 3D comment text anymore.
    3) there is no Expand All option in Acrobat/Reader.

  • Can't select CMYK text colour for text fields in Acrobat Pro forms?

I have designed a business card template in Indesign, and now want to use Acrobat Pro to add in text fields so that a client can edit the contact details on the cards in future.
I need to select a specific text colour for the fields, so that it matches the rest of the design. The cards will obviously need to be printed and the document has been set up in CMYK, but when I enter the CMYK colour breakdown in the Properties > Text Colour panel, it won't apply the colour to that field. The text either stays at the default black, or reverts to RGB - which isn't suitable for printing and doesn't match the colour I need.
Can anybody PLEASE shed some light on this? Other similar posts have either not been answered or people have suggested JavaScript..? I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with a JS code..? Surely there's an easier explanation?
    Thanks in advance.

This is for a text field that you create in Acrobat, whether the form is used offline or online. The script is a custom Format script, which you can place by bringing up the Properties dialog for the field, select the Format tab, set a format category of Custom, and you should see where you can enter the script. Change the string "Instructional text goes here" to the text you want to display when the field is blank.

  • Acrobat Pro form getting MAPI spooler error

I have a form created in Acrobat Pro. The users are using Reader 9.3.1. When the user clicks the Submit button, they get a MAPI Spooler error. For some Windows Services closes Reader. Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to fix?
    Thanks,

    Hi Lon ,
I would request you to get in touch with the support team to get your issue fixed.

  • Acrobat XI - Forms Creation

Hello, Adobe Forum Managers... I watched a video on your site recently that showed the ease of producing forms in the latest version of Acrobat Pro.  Will this be taking the place of that function that was debuted in InDesign CS6?  I'd heard that InDesign's form production capabilities weren't refined yet and am wondering if Adobe is quickly abandoning that avenue of production for an easier route within Acrobat Pro XI.
    Thanks much.

I'm guessing that you're talking about Forms Central for Acrobat, which will be distributed with Acrobat XI. It's a different way of creating forms that are not compatible with Acrobat's existing form methodology. FC has absolutely nothing to do with the InDesign method of creating Acrobat Forms.
The InDesign method works quite well, but doesn't include every little feature that Acrobat has developed over the years. But those issues can easily be tweaked with the forms features in Acrobat Pro. The main thing lacking in the InDesign method is that you still have to open the PDF you create in Acrobat Pro in order to save them as Reader-enabled for saving forms. The biggest advantage is that forms layout can be much more precise, and can include more of the more refined appearance capable in InDesign. (You've never had the tools for creating a refined appearance in Acrobat.) There's no way it will be abandoned. It's one of the most popular features in InDesign CS6!

  • Functionality of Adobe Acrobat Pro for Mac questions?

Greetings! After 35 years in the Windows environment, I became the proud owner of a MacBook air last night, and I want to install Adobe Acrobat Pro for Mac on it. I would like to know if the features and functionality of the Mac version are the same as those on the Adobe Acrobat Standard that I have been using in my Windows environment for so many years.
The Windows version gives me everything I need, most importantly the ability to add text as annotations into documents that have been scanned and sent to me as PDFs, fill in forms, create forms, etc.
Additionally, can someone help me with the differences between the subscription version and the full purchase version? Does the subscription version have any problems, is it just as functional as the full purchase version?
    Thank you so much all!
    S.

If you don't have a physical printer hooked up to your Mac you can still do the Save As Adobe PDF with a "faux" printer setup.  Here are the steps to set that up:
    1.  Go to Apple menu>System Preference>Printers and Scanners
    2.  Press the plus symbol button "+"
    3.  In the Add dialog select IP at the top
    4.  in the Address field put the numbers 127.0.0.1
    5.  In the Protocol pop-up menu make sure that Line Printer Daemon - LPD is selected
    6.  Leave the Queue field bland for the default printer
    7.  In the Name field it will say "127.0.0.1" and you can leave it to that or change it to anything you want.
    8.  Leave the Location field blank
    9.  Leave the Use field pop-up menu field at the default which is Generic PostScript Printer.
    10.  Click the Add button
    11.  You will get the message:
"Unable to verify the printer on your network.
Unable to connect to '127.0.0.1' due to an error.
Would you still like to create the printer?"
    12.  Click the Continue button.
    13.  In the Setting up '127.0.0.1...' dialog click the OK button
    14.  Open up TextEdit
    15.  Type some test text (e.g.  Test Text)
    16. In TextEdit Go to File>Print
    17. In the Print dialog, press on the PDF button on the lower Left side of the window.
    18.  Select Save As Adobe PDF.
    19.  In the Save As Adobe PDF dialog, select your Adobe PDF Settings and whether or not you want the resulting PDF to open in Adobe Acrobat Pro and then click the Continue button.
    20. In the Save window, title your PDF in the Save As: field, navigate to the location you want to save the PDF and then click the Save button.
    21. Done.

How do I install acrobat pro 9.0 on a windows 8 pc. someone sent me instructions earlier but they did not work for some reason.

If this is in reference to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1308514, the instructions are there. Please follow EVERY STEP, don't skip anything because it seems unnecessary, and if you don't understand, say so. But not here - reply to THAT MESSAGE.

  • Acrobat 9 PRO - Forms Tracker Question

    1. When distributing a form via acrobat.com to multiple targets, can I keep email addresses confidential from individual members on the distribution list?
    2. When distributing a form to multiple email addresses simultaneously, is it possible to create a distribution file for each email address on distribution (vs. just 1 file)?
    3. Is there a way to create a more meaningful distribution file name than simply file + "0001"? For example, can I use information about the distribution targets (e.g. email address) to name the file?
    4. Is there any tickler functionality (e.g. If I haven't heard from this person in 7 days, remind me)?

I would also love answers to these questions.
Livecycle and acrobate seem pretty useless whenit comes to tracking and creating unique IDS for form distribution - they expect you to buy Livecycle ES and runa server!
Also there seems to be no documentation about the Javascript(?) that is added when you use the distribution wizard, such as the askuseridentity and askemailclient methods - You would have thought that this would be the basis for at least a tutorial! see below.

  • New Form Creation Question

I have my form created with all the information I need in it. I also have my TAB order the way I need it to be. My question is, is there a way for me to make the current field I'm in be highlighted a certain color so the person filling out the form will know where they are at quickly instead of looking for the blinking curser? I'd rather have the field highlighted a color. Thanks

Sure, on the enter event you could type in:
    this.border.fill.color.value = "0,255,0";
to turn the background green, for example, and then on the exit event of the same field:
    this.border.fill.color.value = "255,255,255";
to change the background back to white when the user leaves the field. You'll need to set the scripting language to javascript for these to work.

I open the PDF, but I'm very new to Acrobat - unless I am missing something, I am not finding anything to use OCR for my scanned document.  In some help thread I read, it mentioned to select "DOCUMENT", then there are some OCR options...when with the document opened, I don't see any "DOCUMENT" option.
Can someone help me on this?

  • Inserting Images into Acrobat Pro Form And using java script calculation to change it

    Hi,
I am trying to create a form witch shows text results bassed of tick boxes and I have managed to be able to do that but I need to have icons shown along side them based upon the result and I am not even sure how to input images in the first place.
I read somewhere that I have to use the content pane but I dont have it and it is not selectable in the view options.
Also the image I am trying to insert is .ai will it need to be .jpg or .png?
any help would be greatly aprectiated!
    Thanks,
    Bruce

That works the only thing is that when another one is selected it stays visible i have tried this
    this.getField("Button1").display = event.target.value=="Off" ? display.hidden : display.visible;
    this.getField("Button2").display = event.target.value=="On" ? display.hidden : display.visible;

  • Acrobat 9 Pro form distribution problem (Enhanced Security?)

I am trying to distribute an Acrobat Pro form to several individuals who happen to be listed in my Outlook 2003 Address Book. When I type an email address into the "To" section of the form distribution pane, Acrobat automatically converts the email address to the recipient's name, which I can only assume is being accessed throughthe Outlook Address Book. Is there any way to isolate Acrobat Pro from my address book? Would changing the Acrobat preferences for "Security (Enhanced)" and un-checking "Automatically trust sites from my Win OS security zones" keep Acrobat from accessing my Outlook address book?

Is it tunred off for the Reader installation or in your Acrobat installation. It doesn't matter what your Acrobat settings are when it's used by someone else with Reader.
Recent versions of Acrobat/Reader do not cache form data in the way mentioned by GKaiseril. This used to happen when a form was viewed in a browser.

  • Answer requested from adobe techs only - deals with forms creation in Acrobat 9 Pro

Need to accomplish the following steps, and how to do so in Acrobat Pro 9, or if not possible in that program, what program is needed to do so
1, Create a pdf form which can not be modified by viewer
2, Post our website and ask for certain information in answer to questions posted
    3. Enable responders to fill in answers by typing on their keyboards and then be able to print their own hard copies if desired
    4. Trigger automatic signal to require field entry if respondent fails to complete all required fields before saving
    5. Receive responses electronically back to the creator of the forms via an Adobe created data base

No techs here. Most of the answers are in the manual.

  • Acrobat Pro Multiple form question

I am creating a form in Acrobat Pro to be distributed and tracked throught the response tracker. The form that I am doing would have 6 sets of the same form fields for different entries into the tracker. Does anyone know how I can do this so each entry is recorded separately in the tracking fields?

One distributed PDF will have only one entry in Tracker. If you want to manage data from Subforms in a PDF form you need to use LiveCycle designer and bind xml or any other database to your form and then you can easily manage the data you want.
