Acroread Solaris 10 permission denied

Hi
acroread 8.1.1
lpstat -p km_b1f7_1 -l
printer km_b1f7_1 idle. enabled since  3 November 2009 16:25:58 GMT. available.

request id is km_b1f7_1-45 (1 file(s))
So printing pdf files to the printer is fine.
However,
cat release_notes.pdf | /opt/Adobe/Reader8/bin/acroread -toPostScript -shrink | lp -c –d km_b1f7_1
gets the following error.
km_b1f7_1: failed to commit job (54-0): permission denied
Anyone any ideas?

Problem cured when I upgraded to acroread v8.1.7.
Also,problem doesn't occur at v8.1.4, so assuming problem fixed somewhere between v8.1.2 and v8.1.4.

  • Error MOS-01105: Permission Denied message during install

    Hi,
    I am trying to install BW30B with Oracle 9.2 on a Sun Solaris 64bit machine. I am using Exceed to display the installation GUI.
    I keep getting the error message:
    Unable to access file <Path>/SAPENV.SH Permission Denied.
    I am running the install with root permissions. The above path does exist and I have given all the files 777 rights. I have in turn given the <SID>adm and ora<SID> directories 777 access. It looks like its trying to copy the scripts from the /UNIX/COMMON/INSTALL directory into the <SID>adm & ora<SID> directories when it fails.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Chengappa

    By Default none of us have root permissions. To work around this we start the installation as sapadm and add the install path to the sudo list so that the install runs with root permissions.
    Eg: sapadm> sudo /sapcd/BWINSTALL/INSTALL
    The destination filesystem is remotely mounted, though i think that's not the problem as we have successfully installed SAP from that path before. The error message from the sapinst log file is below. Also the userid's have already been created and I have set their home directories to 777 permissions.

  • Scp works sftp permission denied - debug sftp-server process ?

    We have a number of servers where we can scp a file on to the server, but when we try and sftp onto the server and put a file we get permission denied. The sftp connection works and we can cd arround just not put a file.
    Its not a file/folder permissions problem.
    Any ideas?
    Is there any way under solaris 10 to put debug on the sftp-server process? you could under solaris 8 but according to the man pages under 10 the options have gone.

    Try turning on logging.
    I typically edit /etc/syslog.conf and add an entry
    local7.info;local7.debug /var/log/sshd
    ensuring the entries are tab delimited.
    Then
    touch /var/log/sshd
    Edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config and change
    SyslogFacility auth
    LogLevel info
    to
    SyslogFacility LOCAL7
    LogLevel debug
    Restart everything:
    svcadm restart system-log
    svcadm restart ssh

  • Rlogind: Permission denied.

    Let me start with I know very little about the Solaris OS or any flavor Unix. This was dumped on me when the server was installed and rsh and rlogin would not work becasue we do not have a Solaris admin on staff. So please talk slow.
    When we attempte to rlogin across the network to this new server the error rlogind: Permission denied. is returned. RSH returns nothing at all, just a blank line. Due to some IP conflicts and routing issues, I have had to play some games to allow connectivity between the source network and the server. The IP we rsh to is an IP on the firewall mapped to an IP that is NATed to the real server IP. RSH and RLOGON has been tested coming from another network segment not going through all the NAT's and Mapped IP's and that works ok. I have simulated the setup on my firewall to another server and RLOGON works through the mapped IP setup. The only part I do not have access to test is the NAT to the real server IP on the vendor network.
    What do I need to be looking at to make this work?

    Hello,
    Please try to login from the server where the rsh server daemon is running and let us know the result.
    ex : rlogin localhost
    Thanks,
    Sal.

  • Reader9 startup on Fedora 14: libcrypto.so permission denied

    I have installed Reader9 on my new installation of Fedora 14.  The install went fine, but it won't start from the desktop launcher icon.  So I went to the /opt/Adobe/Reader9/bin directory and executed from the command line using "./acroread".  It gave me the following error message:
    acroread: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.0.9.8 cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: permission denied
    I run this as root, it makes no difference. I have put 777 permissions on the file itself, no difference. I have uninstalled Reader9, and then re-installed it all over again (including a fresh download), no difference. I have previously installed Reader9 on my Fedora 8 system, and also on Windows 7 on my laptop. Both run fine.
    What am I missing here?

    This is an issue caused by selinux. I found the solution from http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2010/install-adobe-acrobat-pdf-reader-on-fedora-cent os-red-hat-rhel/
    Run the following command as root:
    chcon -t execmem_exec_t '/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread'

    It might be that within that S10 version you upgraded to, metaset
    needs user root be part of group sysadmin (groupid 14).
    Normaly this is not necessary within a Sun Cluster environment, but try.
    I remember seeing a bug for this.

  • Setuid program and permission denied

    We have a wrapper written in C++ that handles our code promotion. It is setuid (u+s) so that any developer can move files to directory owned by our repository owner. This program calls another script that invokes a make. Within this make is a shell macro that invokes which. In Solaris 9 this all works fine. In Solaris 10 it dies with "csh: Permission denied", which is caused by the which. Is Solaris 10 behaving differently? Here is a sample that mimics what we do:
    #include <sys/wait.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    #include <errno.h>
    #include <unistd.h>
    #include <string.h>
    #include <sys/statvfs.h>
    #include <sys/types.h>
    #include <sys/stat.h>
    #include <fcntl.h>
    #include <dirent.h>
    #include <setjmp.h>
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <sys/param.h>
    //#define MAXPATHLEN 200
    int main(
    char lib_so_src[MAXPATHLEN] ;
    char lib_so_lib[MAXPATHLEN] ;
    (void)sprintf( lib_so_src, "/mbs/prg/blue10/ref/cvt/a100/test.so.7" ) ;
    (void)sprintf( lib_so_lib, "/mbs/prg/blue10/ref/lib/test.so.7" ) ;
    setuid(1000);
    execlp( "/staff/rstacey/bin/compile", "/staff/rstacey/bin/compile", "", NULL );
    where compile is:
    cd /mbs/prg/blue10/ref/cvt/a100
    echo here
    which sbpkg

    I suspect you will find that someone has set your "which" script to SUID (if, indeed, this error is originating with that command).
    Solaris 10 no longer permits SUID shell scripts. I can't recall off the top of my head how to revert to the old (insecure) behavior and a brief web search didn't yield anything...
    But from your description it should be unnecessary because your initial wrapper has already raised your UID to root's.
    You might want to look into the process privileges (ppriv) to make this whole setup even more secure.

    Thank you thank you thank you.... It worked.
    I thought I had taken care of /var/tmp, but I had messed/missed something. See below, there was a small issue, I had "t" and not "x" for all users (see in bold below. Now it works after I used "chmod 777 .oracle".
    Thanks a lot.

    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.

    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
