Actionscript error message

Using Captivate 6. When trying to publish a file for proofing, with eLearning output disabled, I receive this error message: Swf compilation failed. Note: Please verify if any of the actionscript keywords is used as user variable name. Where should I look to try to solve this issue?

Some info copied and pasted from my e-book on Troubleshooting Captivate 6:
Reserved keyword error
Solution 1: Try hiding slides and republishing
I struck this error once after adding a Certificate widget at the end of a Captivate 6 project.  Thinking that the issue was the widget, I hid the widget slide and republished the project successfully.  Then I unhid the widget slide and published again successfully.  So whatever caused the glitch during the first publish had resolved itself just by hiding the last slide added.  Perhaps you will be so lucky.  As stated in our section about troubleshooting tips, always try the easy solutions first.
Solution 2: Avoid using punctuation in fields
This error can result if you have inadvertently added punctuation marks in object Item Names, slide labels, project information fields, etc. Certain characters (such as [ ] / “ ‘ # : ; etc) are also used in programming languages and Captivate may mistake these characters for executable code.  If you experience this error, the solution requires searching through all data fields in your project file to remove any punctuation characters you find in the following field areas:
Project information
Slide labels
LMS settings
Quizzing labels
Closed captioning text
Slide notes text
Solution 3: Copy/paste objects to reset object identifiers
Another possible reason for this error can be that you’ve been copying and pasting content objects or slides from one project to another and this has somehow created a conflict because two objects ended up with the same unique identifier in the project file.  They start fighting over who gets the honor of keeping the name and Captivate falls over as a casualty of war.  Fortunately, this issue is now quite rare because Adobe has progressively built more safeguards into Captivate to prevent these conflicts.
Paradoxically, the solution is to do yet another copy / paste run, but this time paste into a new blank project of the same size with no other slides or objects.  The reason this method works is that when Captivate objects are copied and pasted they are always assigned new unique IDs, even when you copy and paste into another slide of the same project.  So if the issue is due to a conflict between items with the same identifier, copying all slides and objects into a new project file forces Captivate to reassign new IDs, which then ensures they are all unique again.
The downside of this particular method is that copying and pasting to another project will NOT retain any Advanced Actions or Variables that you had set up in the original project.  So you may need to set those up again.

  • Sending pictures to email via messages produces an error message

    I fairly certain that I've done this before, but I'm trying to forward pictures from messages to my email. Everytime I try I get an error message saying that the recipient has chosen not to receive messages from a 900-0 number on sprint. Has anyone else had this error or is it not possible to send pictures to an email address this way. Again, I'm pretty sure I've done this in the past.

  • Error message pointing to an unavailable AS line #

    Hi,
    The error message I'm getting suggests the culprit might be on line #235.  I have no such line number anywhere.  But I have to admit, I have two Actions layers on my main timeline.  Could it be that the line numbers are combined off the two actionscript layers?
    TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::BitmapData@173f8f11 to flash.display.Bitmap.
        at Function/WebsiteNew_fla:MainTimeline/RollingTractor/WebsiteNew_fla:tractorBodyLoadComplet e/WebsiteNew_fla:backWheelLoadComplete/WebsiteNew_fla:frontWheelLoadComplete()[WebsiteNew_ fla.MainTimeline::frame1:235]

    yes.  layers don't exist in your swf.
    so, to find the problematic line number add the total lines in each layer starting from the top layer (unless you specified a different load order).  the first layer that exceeds the problem line number contains the problematic line of code.  subtract the total lines in the layers above the problem containing layer from the line number in the error message and you'll have the problematic line number in the problem containing layer.

  • Error message when attempting to publish page with flash content in cs6

    Good day,
    I have a number of websites that I have created with content from previous versions of flash that I have installed in my html pages.  This year I have been repeatedly frustrated by the flash movies working on my computer then not working after I have uploaded them.  It came to the point where I avoided working with the flash projects but it is something I have to work out and would greatly appreciate any help I could get.
    After not working with the movies for a few months I came back and attempted to edit them again, this time receiving the attached error message which may be the resolution to my problem.  The message says I cannot stream with the current settings.  This may make sense as the movies work fine on my computer.
    Any help would be a great kindness.
    Thanks
    Brent

    this has the simple outdated flash file on it that I need to update
    http://www.missourimemorial.com/index2013.html
    this has the failed flash file in the page of course its not working.
    Please help - thanks

    That alert is just to tell you that you have something in your movie's Library that is set to export for Actionscript. most likely in frame 1. This will cause your movie's download to wait until that object is downloaded to the user's computer. If there is more than one object with this setting, then all of those objects will need to download first before the movie can begin, or to stream.
    The problem of your your movie now showing up is completely different. It's impossible to tell where the problem is from looking at the html pages that you provided. The problem may be simple, you may not have the .swf in the proper folder, or the name may not coincide with the swfobject function that you are using.

  • Error message while executing a SWF File

    Hi All,
    Iam trying to execute a SWF file which has its actionscript
    written in AS3. When i execute this, I am getting an error message
    which is as follows
    Verify Error 1030# Stack Depth unbalanced 1 != 0.
    Can anyone tell me what could be the root cause?
    Thanks in advance,
    Prabakaran Srinivasan.

    Hi All,
    I am able to find the root cause for this. For AS 3 classes,
    while parsing the ABC code, every method body will be a set of
    instructions in which each instruction will have an offset to it.
    This offset will be useful to mark the target for branching
    instructions like if, while etc.... Because, these instructions
    contains targetoffset as a parameter to which the instruction has
    to jump when the condition becomes true or false. The process what
    i am doing is i do some code injection to replace the URLRequest
    calls. The flash file in which i got this error, i did replace the
    URLRequest call to my own method call and this code was being
    wrapped up by an IF block. Because of the code injection, i need to
    update the offset of the instructions with the difference offset
    value. I did this, but i missed the jumpoffset parameter of the if
    block wrapping my injected code which was the root cause. I did fix
    this...
    Thanks,
    Prabakaran Srinivasan.

  • Repeated retrieval and parsing of XML file causes IE to display an error message

    I have a flash application that makes a HTTP call every 120
    seconds to retrieve a xml file. This file is being generated with
    fresh data every few minutes or so and pushed to the apache web
    root with a unix mv command.
    I'm using the standard Flash XML object. The HTTP request is
    NOT over SSL (I know there is a bug related to this). Here is the
    code to make the retrieval:
    xmlData = null;
    xmlData = new XML();
    xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
    xmlData.onLoad = xmlTraverse;
    xmlData.load("
    http://domain/dir/somefile.xml");
    The "xmlTraverse" method was written by my team. There is no
    known bug in the parsing logic.
    Intermittently and unpredictably, IE will display the
    following dialogue box:
    "A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 8
    to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become
    unresponive. Do you want to abort the script?"
    I originally leaned toward an infinite loop causing this
    problem. The timeline jumps back and forth between two frames,
    checking in the latter frame if the xml has been loaded and parsed
    before allowing execution to move to the next frame. I hardcoded
    the loop check to always be false, but this did not produce the
    message above (although it pegged my CPU).
    The only scenario where I've managed to reproduce the message
    above is by making a huge (50 MB) xml file. This consistently
    produces the message. But I don't realistically see how our xml
    file could ever be over 1 MB.
    First, can anyone cite another cause for this message? I'm
    starting to lean towards the issue lying in our parsing logic such
    as infinite recursion on a badly formed XML file. Second, does
    anyone know of a solid xml SAX parsing actionscript utility where
    you can assign callbacks to XML nodes? If the problem is in the
    parsing, we may have to replace our homegrown solution with
    something more robust and proven.

    Is it a recursive parsing function? I'm not sure about this,
    but I think this message pops up when there are more than 256
    iterations in a loop (I've read something about this 256 limit,
    that will end while loops if they exceed this, but with another
    error message... but again, I'm not totally sure about that).
    The message is typically for loops, but I don't know when it
    fires. Sometimes it appears for really 'small' loops when you're
    using the debugger (e.g. a for loop with 100 iterations), so maybe
    it is connected to the time a loop is running. You could place some
    trace statements in the xmlTraverse method, to see where the
    function was when the message occurs, or take the time the function
    needs and check if this might be related to the error.
    That's all I can come up with, guess there are people here
    with more insight to this...
    cheers,
    blemmo

  • OpenScript ActionScript Error from Adobe Flash Player 9

    I get a popup ActionScript Error from Adobe Flash Player 9 when trying to record a Flex Tree object using OpenScript 9.2.1.0 Production. Specifically, I click on the Triangle that opens/closes the view of the child nodes underneath the parent node of a Tree. Initially, the triangle arrow already pointing down and the child node is already showing. When I click on the triangle, the node underneath goes up and disappears under its parent node and the traingle is then pointing to the parent node.
    When I click this triangle in Firefox without OpenScript recording, I don't get any errors, popups, or issues. It seems to work correctly. During OpenScript recording, the recording seems to crash with a popup that is titled "Adobe Flash Player 9" and has the text "An ActionScript error has occurred" with the following error message:

    I can click "Dismiss All" from the Adobe popup and Firefox isn't affected. Openscript doesn't appear to have any issues and the recording can be continued or stopped. It records the click on the tree and the "Dismiss All" from the popup both as "Click object("@id='main'") as type "web" instead of "flexFT".
    I am using OATS 9.2.1.0 with Firefox 3.6.17. I am testing a Flex 3.3 SDK built application. I installed the Adobe Flash Player 9 that came with the Flex SDK 3.3 before installing OATS.
    Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Some other information that may prove to be useful: I cannot seem to get OpenScript to consistently play back the actions on the same tree described above. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I've tried using "Select Tree", "Select List", and "Click Tree" and each one is inconsistent on playback. It will report "Target Not Found".
    I have the console output for a "Target Not Found" failure below, where line 100 is ".select("GRID1>server1", TriggerEvent.Mouse," from the following Java generated on recording with OpenScript:

    Thanks,

    Error: Unable to find automation method 'mx.events.TreeEvent' for class '[object OSAutomationClass]'.

    Does this happen if you create a new flash file with nothing
    in it and then publish it ?

  • Output Error Message in Flash 8

    Hi All,
    I'm building a form in Flash 8 that includes check boxes.
    When I add the check boxes and test the movie I get the following
    output error message:
    **Warning** The linkage identifier 'CheckBox' was already
    assigned to the symbol 'Assets/UIComponents/CheckBox', and cannot
    be assigned to the symbol 'CheckBox', since linkage identifiers
    must be unique.
    For the life of me I can't get rid of this. Anyone know what
    the heck is going on?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    It appears that the OP has created a MovieClip symbol and
    named it CheckBox, then has chosen to export for actionscript. The
    CheckBox component needs to have that identifier to function
    correctly. So the OP needs either, change the linkage ID on the
    symbol named "CheckBox", or take the linkage ID off
    completely.

  • Publising error message

    When I open one of my Flash (ActionScript 2) projects and
    strip out ALL the code and go to publish it I get the following
    error message:
    WARNING: Actions on button or MovieClip instances are not
    supported in ActionScript 3.0. All scripts on object instances will
    be ignored.
    There is no code there but I still get this message.
    Thanks,
    Al

    Thanks, it seems that it may actually have to do with another problem I posted earlier trying to upload with iWeb here in Mexico and not being able to from Cablevision but able to from Prodigy which is dsl. I'll test looking at the site from that.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Error message: 1021: Duplicate function definition.

    Hi All,
    First let me start by saying that I know next to nothing about Flash.  I have inherited a website maintenance project that has a Flash rotating image banner.  I have managed to get the images to fade-in and fade-out correctly, but now I need to make these images clickable - linking images to pages in the website.  I have read many posts here and have reviewed the video tutorials.  I have been able to get the first image clickable using this AS3 action:
    mars_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClickHandler);
    function buttonClickHandler(event:MouseEvent) :void {
            navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://somewebsite/mars.php"));
            trace("I'm clicked");
    However, when I attempt to make another image clickable by using a different instance of a button I get the error message:
    1021: Duplicate function definition.
    I have a separate instance of a button with this AS3 action:
    jupiter_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClickHandler);
    function buttonClickHandler(event:MouseEvent) :void {
            navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://somewebsite/jupiter.php"));
            trace("I'm clicked");
    Obviously I'm not understanding how I'm supposed to do this so that I don't create a duplicate function definition.  Any help would be most appreciated.

    excuse me , I have a question i hope that you help .. ( im new in here )
    we were asked to create an interactive application on flash in two languages..
    so i created two different fla files same exact codings ... i was wondering how can i combine them so the viewer can be able to choose the language from a button ?
    when i try to combine them i get lots of errors of duplications in the actionscript
    PS : MY MAIN PAGE INCLUDES A CAROUSEL with images ..
    I was thinking of saving one of the fla  as a movie and then add it some how to the second fla and combine it with a button but i can't figure it how..
    i hope i was clear enough.. but is there any possibility to help me please ?!
    when i tend to change names or something it creates error.. ( IM NOT A PRO IN AS3 ) and when i dublicate the scenes it give duplication errors.. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION ??
    this is the code of the actionscript in the main page.. ( the carousel's code i took from someone ) and i used it on my project
    import com.ccanvas.carousel.*;
