Hi Guys,
I am new to brand new BI implementation, previously I supported maintenance project.
Can somebody please give basic steps - how to activate Info-area, Cubes, DSO?
is there any order we need to follow like - First activate Info-Area OR define Info-area? then second set of activities?
Thanking you,

You said that a cube like 0SD_C03 is installed, so under which info area it is installed. Since it is a Sales and distribution cube it will be installed under the info area : Customer Relationship Management, Sales and Distribution Analyses - SAP R/3 SD.
For example if you install a purchasing cube like 0PUR_C01then it will be installed under the info area Supply Chain Management, Purchasing.
So which ever cube you install it will be available in its respective info area.
Just copy the cube name and go and search in the info providers section. You will find it there.
Hope it helps you.

Sravan.

• Access to activating business content

Hi ,
I would like to restrict few users from activating business content. I thought we can do it with "S_RS_ADMWB" authorization with object "CONT_ACT" and activity 63
I checked with our security team and we could not restrict users from activating business content.
Did anyone could get this thing working.
Thanks,
Naveen

Hi Naveen,
In BI the security is implemented using authorizations, i,e you can
make an object authorization relevant and restrict users access to it
in this way, can you explain why you cannot use Authorizations to
achieve what you want to do in your case?
If you are using authorizations then users can either
display or change an object, if an object can be changed then the
Object can be activated as well via the content. The other option
is to close the system to changes but of course this is not an option
in a Development environment. It is not possible to partially restrict
access to a group of objects.
If its the case that you want a profile that is only allowed to see
objects like InfoPackage, request, InfoCube, but is not allowed to
change them then this is not possible in BI. The only other option is to
set the whole system to 'not changeable'. Please read the attached note
337950 carefully it may be of interest to you in this case.
Best Regards,
Des.

• Deleting Activated Business Content

How can I delete activated Business Content? Would actually deleting say the InfoObject from RSD1 actually ensure the active version is no longer available? Thanks

Hi Niten,
Yes. Once you delete the business content objects than there would be no "active" version only the "delivered" (Version type "D") would exist.
Since you would be manually deleting all the objects just make sure that you dont delete the objects and when you install they are the same.

• Difference between installing and activating business content

Hi,
I am new to BW, would like to know some info
1) What is the difference between install busines content and activate business content, When i should do what
2) When a business content is installed do i need to go to modelling tab and activate it as well.
3) if a business content is installed would all other related objects get activated automaically like its update rules, transfer rules etc.
Thanks
Akila.R

Hi Ramachandran,
Good question,
This issue can be adressed with the "Match x or copy" option in the Business content activation screen.
Here with this option you can decide wether you need to overwrite the earlier content or not.
Follow the link for further explanation on "Match x or copy".

Hope your doubt is clarified.

• Error while activating Business Content

Hi!
I'm trying to activating a BC ODS.. but when I run the installation simulation I get the following error message:
"InfoObject 0KN_USE is not available in version A"
I've marked the infoobject 0KN_USE to be installed..
Any ideas of how to proceed?
BR
Bjørn

Maybe that infoobject existed before in inactive version, check it and activate manually, after that activate business content version

• Activating Business Content

Expeerts,
I am about to start development in BI 7.0.
1. What should I activate first in Business Content? Should I activate all info objects first ? Or the identified cubes(data targets) and while doing so then collect the relevant info objects as well?
2. For master data objects and for transaction data objects which have SAP ECC datasources, what should be the strategy of collection and activation? Do I activate them in all 3.x format and then migrate them one by one? Or should I migrate them during BI activation itself? If I do the latter, do I end up losing the code in the transfer rules and update rules?
Your inputs are highly appreciiated.
Thanks

Hi Sheweta,
For your first question, I recommend collecting Infocubes along with the objects in the data flow, while installing the business content.
For second one,
Mostly all the business content data flow available in 3.x version only. So do it in 3.x version. There is no need to migrate the data flow to 7.0. In case that is needed, do it on case to case basis.
Hope I have answered your queries.

• Error when activating Business Content

Hi Ladies/Gents
I get this error when activating BC: "Element 4EHBH4SLF21UQ1UFOHVN4SZVJ is missing in version D"
I have successfully activated HR: Personnel Admin Data Targets and ETL structures. I also loaded master data to all I/O's and transaction data to the Cubes. I am now activating the queries and when I activate just the first query I get this error. I have searched everywhere for this element that is missing but can not find it. The query that I am trying to install is: "Number of entries". Note that some of the other queries were installed successfully.
Thanks!

Hi,
This element is not available in "Number of entries" query. Try to check in query designer where this element is there in query or not.
Also try to reinstall this query from Business content

• Error in Activating Business Content

Hi all,
When trying to activating the technical content infosources from business content , I am getting the error "DataSource 0TCTAGGRST_TEXT from source system BWDCLNT200 could not be activated" , I have checked the source system everything seems to fine.
Thanks

Hi,
did you goto sbiw in BW to activate the BCT datasources and the application hierarchy first? If not, this should be the first step.

• Activation Business Content end Incomplete

Hi All,
I tried activating a standard cube, using data flow before and installing it background, when completed I noticed the particular infocube is greyed out nit installed and M version is different from A version. I have checked on the source system assignment its ok.
Please advise
Thanks
Nathan

Hi,
It is always better to Install the Business Content With option Install, as background installation cannot be traced where exactly it has gone for Short dump or where exactly the process failed.
The dependent Info Objects to be Activated / Installed for Info Cube with all required Routines with Transfer Rules/Update Rules / Info Sources for Cube.
Try to Group all necessary objects with Install option, and monitor the Business Content (Better to choose Transfer objects manually instead of choosing Transfer all without dialogue )
Hope it helps and Clear.

• Can we get Transformation rules while activating Business content

Hi Gurus,
I am trying to install business content for the cube 0SD_C05 in BI 7.0. I have selected in dataflow before and afterwards, but I am getting that as Bw 3.X flow like update rules and tranfer rules. Is there any option that I can get the business content installed in BI 7.0 flow, like I need the transformation rules and all. Please advise.
Kind Regards,
Raghu

Hi,
While activating the BI content it will ask for the Datasource type to be extracted. There you need to specify in 7.0
Now as you have extracted, you can migrate the same.
Go the datasource>rt clk>migrate>with export>after migration>replicate the DS>activate and create transfor mation...
Hope this helps
Cheers,

• Error in Activating Business Content in SPP

When we tried to Activate the business content for SAP SPP(using RSA1), We received the ABAP runtime error - OBJECTS_OBJREF_NOT_ASSIGNED. The error message is as follows.
Error in the ABAP Application Program The current ABAP program "CL_RSD_IOBJ_VERS==============CP" had to be terminated because it has come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.
Any suggestions how to rectify this?

Thanks for the update. It helped. We could transfer and istall the required infoobjects, infosources and infoareas.
We could also transfer the update rules, but the tansferred and installed 'update rule' is being shown as 'inactive, not executable'. Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks,

• Why activated Business Content can't be found?

We install two ODS under a folder and assign to a local object. After it's done, we go to Transport Connection or just InfoProvider view on RSA1, nowhere can we find the activated ODS, where are they?
Thanks

Hi Kevin,
If you include just the ODS in the transport request, the system will pick up the definition and move that without checking whether all the InfoObjecs are also present in the target system or not. Lets say InfoObject1 was installed and is $TMP, this needs to go too, else the transport will fail.
Your ODS should be found here, but try this too. In your RSA1 > transport connection below InfoProviders by InfoAreas there should be an entry called Object Types. Click this and in the middle pane you should see all different kind of objects. Find ODS Object over here and then Search Objects.
Hope this helps...

• Business Content Upgrade Activation Procedure

Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for a procedure or best practices document that will help me with the steps I need to follow when activating business content due to an upgrade when some of the objects have already been activated and are being used in PRoduction. As an example, we upgraded our BW system to 3.5 but didn't activate any of the Business Content so everything continued to run just fine. Now we activated a new InfoArea that overlapped some of the objects that were already active. A good example is 0REGION. The DataSource in R/3 changed to use a different table for the view so new fields are now available which are actually the same as the fields that were already there but with different names. So the transfer rules show as modified/inactive. I transferred the new structure from R/3, replicated in BW, and changed the transfer rules to use the new fields. Is this the procedure that needs to be followed for any object that was put on the tranport? I've also noticed that many InfoObjects are on the transport but the only change I can see is that the content version changed so if the InfoObject didn't really have any changes, why the version change?
As I mentioned, this is the first time we've activated new content after an upgrade and I'm totally in the dark as to what the procedure should be to follow to get everything cleaned up and up to date.
When you are activating a new area, do you pick and choose which objects you want to activate/match or do you generally just activate the entire InfoCube or InfoArea?
Thanks for any insight,
Diane Merrill

Hi Diane,
I think you should go with infosource or may be with application component. Collect everything of that area and let the system check the already active objects so that it is not just activating the new content but enhancing already active objects with the new content features. But take care, this option is only available when you start this activation in foreground. In background there is only a overwrite mode available which might lead to a loss of developments.
