I think you should review what you wrote. There is no question, hence, my reply. I can't tell by the AM listing what applications are using memory. You need to click on the Real Mem column once or twice to display in descending order.
Aside from what you see in AM, what exactly is your problem or perceived problem. You are very low on Free Mem at the moment the screen shot was taken. Those displays are not depicting your computer's instantaneous memory usage.

The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently. It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster. What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent. It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.

For the “% CPU” column in Activity Monitor, the total percent available depends upon your hardware: a single-core CPU has 100% available, a dual-core CPU has 200% available, and a quad-core CPU has 400% available. (The column might have been better labeled “% Cores”.) For the System/User/Idle at the bottom of the window, those represent a total of 100% of whatever your hardware comprises. For example, if you have a quad-core CPU, then your total System usage would be 400% of 1.43%, or a total of 5.72% in the “% CPU” column. Similarly, your total User usage would be 400% of 12.03%, or a total of 48.12% in the “% CPU” column. The percentage value for Guild Wars 2 might have been magnified because of its dependence upon your MacBook Pro’s discrete GPU.

I have tried installing a disc to try and reinstall the operating system.

Well as far as I can tell the only developed alternative to Apple is Microsoft, sure you want to go there?
iCloud (and Mobile Me before it) are consumer level systems, working correctly they are a poor choice for business use, if you want to stay all Mac try Zimbra if you can let a little Microsoft in the mix use Microsoft Exchange (Mail, iCal & Address Book are compatible as clients), hosted Exchange systems cost about $10 per month.
Or try to fix what is wrong with your installation (which is clearly not running as it should)

I'm guessing "the usage" means email usage that you found in Settings > General > Usage. If that is incorrect, the 2.4GB may well mean other stuff.
If correct, the 2.4GB may well include messages you have deleted, but are still on your iPhone.

Activity Monitor says Final Cut is not responding

I'm very new to FCP and unsure as to why it does things like disappears from the Dock altogether, and loads one of my projects (the shorter one) but not the longer one at all (spinning beach ball until I have to shut computer down).
Any simple advice for a tech/computer/FCP dummy?
I'm an amateur so assume I know nothing!

This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance - you may have already addressed some of the items but it's worth checking.
Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.5 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.5.
Check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive. Without this much free space, the drive cannot perform correctly for video editing.
For smooth playback without dropping frames, make sure 'Better Performance' is selected in the FCP X Preferences - Playback Tab.
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:

If you're getting crashes, you might have incompatible or corrupt media or project files. Move ALL your Events and Projects to temporary folders so that FCP X doesn't find them on launch. If it launches OK, re-introduce the Events and Projects one at a time, re-launching each time, so that you can track down the corrupt or incompatible files.
If FCP X doesn't launch (with no existing Events or Projects) I suggest you drag the application to the trash and reinstall it from the AppStore (using the same login that you used to buy it).
If you are still getting crashes, there could be some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install of the OS would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
If your playback in FCP X is not good, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
The downside of 'Proxy' is that it looks awful in the preview window. DON'T use Proxy when you're assessing things like video quality (especially focus) and colour correction.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Personally, I work with XDCAM EX and h.264 from a Canon DSLR. Both of these run fine with my system, but I do transcode multicam clips.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.

Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

my system reboots at random (more in games) with audigy 2 value..
could someone please advise me on the problem i have with my new audigy 2 card. i would like to get it working and not have to get another card. i got this one because my onboard sound is so junky with midi music and has a poor s/n on recording. the blaster card seems to meet my expectations except for the reboots.
i have read on forums about this same issue with ati video cards in the 9200+ range so i thought that might be the cause but i went back to the onboard audio and the problem went away.
at random my system reboots. i get an error.. irql_not less than or equil or something like that and then it reboots. i let it submit to microsoft and they only say its a problem with a device driver. i have all the updated drivers for all my hardware at this point. i have all the windows updates as well. my xp is legal. i dont think its the power supply but.. could it be? the readings with my digital meter are normal. i have an older but quality digital multi tester. got it when in college. so i know its accurate. it reads 4.9 on 5 and 2.2 on 2. all this info because of the information i have read already. is the audigy a power hungry card? cause i dont get any reboots when i use the onboard sound and my ati video so what ever is going on it has something to do with the sound card.
i cant find a newer driver on the driver site for it except for the beta. so i assume there is no updated driver for the card.
i have a ups backup system. it has come on but it has never caused a computer hang when it has. its a 250 watt unit with plenty of battery backup. same battery backs up my ham radio equip. i am going to reinstall the card and see if in some chance it is munipulating the waveform to the supply. the power to the machine reads 22 volts.

sorry i missed that detail in my information. that is one of the things i checked. video is on 6 and audio is on 7. i dont see any other devices sharing those irqs in the device manager irq information. or any other devices on same irqs or i/o
before anyone mentions it i also have 3 fans sucking air. my case is actually an old server case with lots of vent holes in front and side. i was thinking of getting some of the slot fans and blowing on video and sound card. could this be the issue? the monitor app says my sytem temp is 82 degrees. 27 on processor.
i appreaciate the input. i ran it all night last night with nero media player running with visulations on. the music was still playing but the video was locked up when i checked it this morning? nothing but mushrooms on my screen from the visulation. i dont know if something happened with nero (most likely this time) but thats the first time that error came up. the odd thing about this really is that it may go for hours and not do this but it seems to do it more when we play demanding games. i ran the machine yesterday for hours on my inverter (ups system) from the batteries with no problem. its output is just a little hotter than my house voltage 27 volts and my line volatage is about 9. but it may reboot before i get this post completed. it ran without problem for 7 hours with all the major games i have until the batteries ran down. Only 9% System Memory Free

I have had trouble lately with multiple applications being open(and others running slow or not opening with 99% ram used up), fan speeds above 4000 and cpu temps above 150F. BTW, sinks and bridges stay below 135F.
Now the activity monitor is showing only 9%(84MB) free while running one window ofSafari, iStat and Mail. The 'about this mac' says the memory is 'ok'.
I am installing 4G of ram next weekend hoping these problems will go away..
My question; Is there something else I should address(fix) before the ram instal(which I will do anyway) and see if there is any improvement?

Oh boy, feeling dumb.
Vents were blocked, I blew the dust out with compressed air, raised the back of the fan inlet so it is clear of the table cloth. Running video and temp stays below 150 and fan speeds are below 4500.
Thanks for the SMC idea, but it warned against un-necessary use. Think im ok now.
Ordered a laptop cradle/usb fan unit along with my ram.

System Performance window and CPU usage

The System Performance window shows two bars - what do these mean? My guess would be for dual cpu, on my quad only two show up but I assume that's because Apple needs to update to show all four?
Related question - when doing a torture test on my quad, Logic seems to show almost full CPU usage and choke while Activity Monitor only has logic using about 130% of available cpu (out of 400%). Processor load seems to be split equally between all four (none of which seem to be averaging over 50%). On a dual, how close does Logic get to 200%? Is there anything I can do to get Logic to use more of the available CPU power?
I'm running an assortment of softsynths, most with Space Designer (do longer verbs in SD use more CPU?).
Along these same lines, are there any standard Logic benchmarks?

They indicate multiple processors if audio is subdivided. It is most likely Logic hasn't got a CPU meter update-don't the quads simply operate as pairs per core-fuctionally similar to a Dual but when it comes to the processor the duties are split, as opposed to 4 procs it works more like 2 coupled...
Longer IRs require more calculations, they add up really fast, esp. at higher sampling rates-because the IRs convert to the host (session) rate, as opposed to the rate the IR is.

CPU usage when 5 tabs are open and all idling is 35% of 38% total and fan active alot

It seems to me in the last week or so, Firefox has been consuming alot of CPU cycles. This is when my laptop is idling. I know because I monitor by looking at the taskmgr. I see that it takes up 80-90% of the CPU which show as high as 35-40%.

System Interrupts and High CPU usage.

Hi there, I have a new AcerAspire V15, which worked great until a system update last weekend.
Now I have massive CPU usage spikes for no obvious reason and the highest usage seems to by the System Interrupts. I have scanned and rescanned my laptop and have found no viruses whatsoever.
The issue is so bad that I can not even stream a video from youtube without issue, let alone get any work done, or gaming as was the intention of me buying this laptop.
Any solutions?

View installed updates and uninstall the update .
If the problem is solved ,we can update the driver of all the hardware components and reinstall the system update again .
