When you attempt to startup the cloned database on the new server you will find that it needs recovery -- because it was taken in hot backup mode.
That is why you need to copy the archivelogs that are generated from the first archivelog after the first "alter tablespace begin backup" to the first archivelog after the last "alter tablespace end backup".
I see that you are also including a CREATE CONTROLFILE script.
You would run that at the cloned environment.
Then you would issue the RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL command to make the clone consistent.
You can, of course, use the same method to copy these archivelogs as you use to copy database files -- tar, cpio, tape, etc.

  • 10g Database Console

    Hi
Could anyone advise please, if there is a way to configure the 10g database web console, to enable one to log into other databases? i.e. in a similar fashion to the way the java enterprise manager works
    Thanks
    Kez

The grid control is a separate download. The console that comes with the database is tuned for hooking to that database alone.
The grid control is very nice. It will also give you additional information about your database, especially additional error information. I used it to debug a problem of conflicting homes a few months ago. It was very helpful.

  • Add second instance to Enterprise Manager 10g database control

    Hi,
I have a server with one Oracle 10g database instance, and I
configured the local Enterprise Manager database control for it.
Now I added a second instance on the server, using the same Oracle
home. Can I manage this new instance using the existing database
control or do I have to configure a second database control using
another port? The documentation isn't too clear on this.
    Thanks,
    Matthias

You can't manage the two database using database control. you have to go for Grid control only if you need to configure two or more instance.

  • Oracle 10g - Database does not respond to the application users

    Hi all,
I am using ORACLE 10g database with 75 users connections 50 local and 20 remote users using ADSL and dial up modem. Operating system on server is
    Windows 2003.
All of a sudden users making the entry get disconnected getting the error as
ORA-12516: TNS:listener could not find available handler with matching protocol stack
Other case users when using the appliaction get their PC hanged and connection
to oracle fails again. they cannot login to the application that time, the error is
ORA-04031: unable to allocate %s bytes of shared memory ("%s","%s","%s","%s")
Twice a day the users trying to login cannot access the database server.
Front end application is in VB using exe file. When the users cannot logon
to the database. I manually stop the ORACLE services(including DB console) and
    then stop the listener.
This practice is going on since last two months.
    Server Scenario
After Installing Oracle Standard Edition 10g.
System tablespace utilization is 98.5% which is 465 MB out of total 470 MB.
There is only one Rollback Segment named as SYSTEM.
    when we install 9i 4 rollback segments as RO1, RO2, RO3, RO4 are created
    by default.
Do I need to add the datafile to SYSTEM table space as its current usage is 99.15% and its auto extend is ticked on using auto extent as 10 MB. I tried adding another datafile during weekend downtime. when I resumed on saturday morning I found it did not add any datafile which I had put on thursday eveninig as system02.dbf.
Do I need to add a new datafile to the SYSTEM tablespace ?
Do I need to create new rollback segments apart from SYSTEM rollback segment ?
My current schema size 15360Mb with its usage as 9.32% (1432.25 Mb).
    Please reply !!!

    I get for ORCL:

Seems that I can never get the database started properly?! When I press the Startup/Shutdown button I get:
    Current Status: open
This is the correct current database status, although it doesnot match the current status in the sitemap page
What does this mean? Do you think this may contain the clue to the answer to this problem?
When I restart the Database I get the same status: unavailable.
I need your help to resolve this problem. The alternative is to revert back to Oracle 9i DB Server. Thank you in advance.

I can help you with the SCOTT account being locked. Try:
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba
    alter user scott identified by tiger account unlock;

  • Oracle 10g database installation

    Hi
I installed 10g database on my Win2K OS. I had accepted defaults and could even open up the EM from the browser. Later I installed Oracle 9iDS on the same machine but different home. Now when I invoke EM console, it says database is unavailable. Tried the 'Startup' from the console but in vain. I found that there was no tnsnames.ora file in the Oracle 9iDS home directory (c:/oracle/product/9iDS/network/admin). So copied the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files from 10g HOME directory. But couldn't get to work.
Later I added a registry key TNS_ADMIN under the HOME0 for ALL_HOMES. I entered the key value to point to tnsnames.ora file in 10g HOME directory. No luck.
At the command prompt I can connect to SQLPLUS as dummy. At SQL prompt conn / as sysdba gives me the error:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Could one of you resolve this issue?
    Thanks

Now I tried to ping orcl
    c:\tnsping orcl
    Output I got was
    Used Parameter files:
    c:\oracle\product\9iDS\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    c:\oracle\product\9iDS\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    Attempting to contact ...... (SERVICE_NAME=orcl))))
    OK (4120 msec)
This means that it actually looks at the tnsnames and sqlnet files in my 9iDS home directory. But my 10g database is in c:\oracle\product\10.1.0\db_1
I have installed Oracle 9iDS in a different HOME (c:\oracle\product\9iDS). Does this mean that these files should not be in mt 9iDS dir but only in 10g dir?
Could anybody explain what I need to do?

Please help me in this. Thanks.

See the Metalink Note *Impact Document for Daylight Saving Time Shift for Enterprise Manager Grid Control [ID 417939.1]* Appendix B - FAQ - point 18
What is the impact of not patching the JDK on the OMS for 10g Grid Control?
If you do not patch the JDK on the OMS page refreshed times and possibly other times displayed in the console will be incorrect (they will be off by 1 hour) during an affected period.
Oracle strongly recommends that you do patch the OMS JDK but we are not aware of any data corruption in the repository nor of any impact on critical EM functionalities (such as severities, notifications and jobs) when the JDK is not patched.

  • Oracle 10g database as Resource manager and heuristic transaction decision

    Hi,
I have read in documents about distributed tarnsaction that resource manager like oracle databasecthat are involved in distributed transaction can take heuristic decision(unilateral decision) and can either rollback or commit the transaction associated with itself without having confirmation from the transaction manager.
I want to know how a resource manager take this unilateral decision and can we set this as parameter either in resource manager or in application server.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Following are some links to documents.
    Handling Heuristic Completions
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/jta.html
A heuristic completion (or heuristic decision) occurs when a resource makes a unilateral decision during the completion stage of a distributed transaction to commit or rollback updates. This can leave distributed data in an indeterminate state. Network failures or resource timeouts are possible causes for heuristic completion. In the event of an heuristic completion, one of the following heuristic outcome exceptions may be thrown:
HeuristicRollback—one resource participating in a transaction decided to autonomously rollback its work, even though it agreed to prepare itself and wait for a commit decision. If the Transaction Manager decided to commit the transaction, the resource's heuristic rollback decision was incorrect, and might lead to an inconsistent outcome since other branches of the transaction were committed.
HeuristicCommit—one resource participating in a transaction decided to autonomously commit its work, even though it agreed to prepare itself and wait for a commit decision. If the Transaction Manager decided to rollback the transaction, the resource's heuristic commit decision was incorrect, and might lead to an inconsistent outcome since other branches of the transaction were rolled back.
HeuristicMixed—the Transaction Manager is aware that a transaction resulted in a mixed outcome, where some participating resources committed and some rolled back. The underlying cause was most likely heuristic rollback or heuristic commit decisions made by one or more of the participating resources.
    2. Understanding EJB Transaction
    http://www2.sys-con.com/itsg/virtualcd/Java/archives/0504/tyagi/index.html
    Unilateral Decisions
The transaction manager allows certain heuristic or speculative decisions to be made based on the state of all participating resources in a transaction and the underlying two-phase commit protocol. A heuristic decision occurs when one of the resources in the transaction unilaterally decides to commit or roll back the transaction without permission from the transaction manager
    3. Oracle® Containers for J2EE
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/web.1013/b28958.pdf
    Heuristics
To achieve consensus, two-phase commit is a blocking protocol. This means that, if a coordinator fails before delivering the final phase messages, the participants must remain blocked, holding onto resources. Modern transaction systems add heuristics to two-phase commit, which allows such participants to make unilateral decisions about whether they will commit or rollback. If a participant makes a choice that turns out to be different from the one taken by other participants, then non-atomic behavior occurs.
I got this problem while trying to do a distributed J2EE tarnsaction with two XA (one MQ and other Oracle 10g database XA) and one non-xa (oracle 10g database). According to above docs a resource manager can decide tarnsaction final state unilaterally and that can result in unatomic transaction.
Do oracle also make such decision and if yes then on what ground it takes decision? Can we change this according to our requirement either always rollback/commit anywhere as parameter setting?
    Thanks

  • Oracle 10G Database Control and Scheduling OWB Process Flow

Does anyone know how to go about scheduling an OWB Process Flow from
Oracle 10G Data Base Control. I knew how to do this with Oracle Enterprise Manager 9.2 but we recently upgraded to Oracle Db 10G and the interface has changed significantly.
Now the interface seems to require a PL/SQL stored procedure to be executed.
Is there a template procedure that is installed with 10G Data Base Control as there was for 9.2 i.e. oem_exec_template.sql?
    Thanks! Deadline approaching fast...
    Marion

I've used the oem_exec_template.sql successfully with OWB 10.1 and Oracle 10G Database Control, with a little trial and error at first.
I'm assuming that your job execution environment is set up correctly, ie. that you can properly execute jobs via the host agent.
    1. Log on to Database Control as SYSTEM, select Jobs from the links at the bottom of the page
    2. In the Results section, Create Job, select "SQL Script" and press Go
    3. In the General section, enter Job Name, and as SQL Script enter e.g.:
    @/u01/app/oracle/owb_oracle_home/owb/rtp/sql/oem_exec_template.sql owb_runtime WF_LOC PROCESS MY_PROCESS , ,
    4. In the Databases section, add your target database
    5. In the Credentials section, I select "Override Preferred Credentials" and use the agent account (oracle on my Linux system) and db user owb_access (OWB Runtime Access user)
    6. Review Schedule tab and submit
    Comments on step 3:
    - the oem_exec_template.sql script must be installed according to the path specified in step 3, on the database host where the OWB Runtime Repository is located
    - owb_runtime is the owner of my OWB Runtime Repository
    - WF_LOC is the name of my Workflow Location as seen in OWB Deployment Manager
    - MY_PROCESS is the name of a deployed Workflow Process
    - the commas indicate that I don't supply any system or custom parameters.
    - step 3 is actually a shell command line that is interpreted by eg. /bin/sh on Unix or cmd on Windows, and must obey proper quoting rules. On windows, I had to specify the empty commas as "\," (including dblquotes)

Regards1) As Dan says - 10.2.0.5 has not been released yet. There is a place holder, but ...
    2) Each and every patch and patch set has an associated README. Ignore that at your own risk.
    3) A person installing the software should be familiar with the Installation Guide, the Upgrade Guide, and the Universal Installer and OPatch reference manuals. For 10g, these are

I just completed installation of the SES 10.1.8.2 version and am now trying to apply the 10.1.8.4 Service Pack. After the OUI screen asks for my sys password, I click on Next and receive a popup error message that reads,
Install cannot verify the oracle 10g Database. Please ensure that the database and its listener are running and please verify that the information you entered is correct.
The installer log file (installActions2010-04-15_08-56-19PM.log) shows this:
*** Specify the SYS Password Page***
    Calling Query EmQueries4.2.2 checkUserExists
    schemaName = SYS
schemaPassword = Protected value, not to be logged
    connectString = (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=HostNodeName_1)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=Ses01.HostNodeName_1)))
    userName = EQSYS

I've verified that I can login as EQSYS using sqlplus. Also tested that I can login as sys, too. I've also tested the login using the Admin console and that is fine, too.
Any ideas on what is causing this or how to fix it is most welcome as I've not encountered this error before when installing SES or a service pack. I've even tried the OUI for Service pack 10.1.8.3 but also get the same error.
I've checked the listener.ora and tnsnames and they are OK. I've checked and the listener is running and so is the DB.
Right now, I have the Oracle SES instance up and running at 10.1.8.2 but need to upgrade this to the same level as the other SES search nodes.

My listener.log file is showing this message each time, I run the OUI and enter the sys password and click "Next"
    15-APR-2010 23:17:05 * 12502
    TNS-12502: TNS:listener received no CONNECT_DATA from client

A couple of other things that I have tried but have had no affect. I'm still getting the same error:
    1. Tried recreating the orapwd file
    orapwd file=orapwprdses01 password=prdses01
And make sure that the pfile or spfile has:
    remote_login_passwordfile='EXCLUSIVE'
another OTN posting said to try this:
    1. Go to directory $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    2. Modify sqlnet.ora file with following parameter:
    tcp.validnode_checking = no
    3. If you don't want to disable this, you can put the machine names as follows:
    tcp.invited_nodes=(machine1, machine2)
    3. Bounce the listener.
.... but, I'm still getting the same error when trying to run the .runInstaller OUI for the service pack for 10.1.8.4.

  • Extracting Error in 10g database for windows

    Friends,
I downloaded the 10g database from
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/oracle10g/10201/10201_database_win32.zip
after downloading i tried to unzip it.
It throwed me this error while unzipping
    ================
D:\Downloads\10201_database_win32.zip: CRC failed in database\stage\Components\oracle.sysman.console.db\10.2.0.1.0\1\DataFiles\filegroup7.jar. The file is corrupt
    D:\Downloads\10201_database_win32.zip: The archive is corrupt
    ================
i tried the installation it installed with the jar file installation errors.
that means the files in the oracle web are corrupted.
So how can i get the non-corrupted file from the oracle web.
    Thanks
    Sathyguy

    I've experienced the same.
After download the extraction failed on CRC. I then tried a to use a download that installed on another computer. After moving that install to the computer that failed in the first place, the extraction failed again.
Finally I tried another extraction utility, which succeeded. But there might still be problems, because the installation get stuck after 35%.
I have a post from the sep 26 on that.
