Add an MSSQL "Linked" Server Object as a Data Source in Sharepoint Designer

This is a hard question to research as there are "Linked Data Sources" in SharePoint Designer. NOT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. :)
In Microsoft SQL Server you can create Linked Databases. I'd like to find a way to use a Linked Database as a Data Source in SharePoint Designer.
Why?
A common question in SharePoint Communities is how to go about adding an Oracle Database connection in SharePoint. I am attempting to discover a way of linking an Oracle DB to MSSQL and then connecting SharePoint Designer to MMSQL. I do this
with the hopes I'd get more control over development in SharePoint Designer. Right now it is painful to use Oracle as a Data Source.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to add an Oracle Database connection in SharePoint.
It is recommend to use the business connectivity services to connect to the Oracle database.

You can also use the Oracle database as data source directly instead of use a linked server.
In the SharePoint Designer, click Data Sources tab in the Ribbon, in the New group, click Database Connection.
Then you can configure the database connection to the Oracle database.

Actually the list was created with a custom content type. When i try to create a new form from the custom content type, it fails.

How to create a database link on an ms acces data source

Hello every body
Is it possible to create a database link on an MS access data source under
oracle 10 g and Apex ?
If yes how to do it ?

I don't know what Apex is!!! But try to follow these instructions.
It works for Oracle 9i.
As far as I know, you are supposed to have installed other than ORACLE Client to complete these instructions.
1. Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Data Sources (ODBC)
Folder: System DSN /
click add
Choose : Microsoft Access Driver
Data Source Name : my_test
Description : any_description_you_want
click Database/Select... : full pathname for <your_file.mdb>
click OK
Click OK
2. Goto OH\hs\admin:
2.1) Create a copy of "inithsodbc.ora" file giving it this name:
initmy_test.ora
2.2) Edit "initmy_test.ora" and change as below.
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = my_test
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = OFF
3. Add this entry to listener ( Don't forget to stop/start the listener )
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = my_teste)
(ORACLE_HOME = <Path to OH> ) ### Ex: D:\ORANT901
(PROGRAM = hsolesql)
4. Now you need to add entries to point to the HS in the tnsnames.ora :
access =
(DESCRIPTION=

(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=my_test))
(HS=my_test)
5. Now you need to go into the database and create the database link:
CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK "ACCESS_DB" USING 'access';
6. select * from your_table@ACCESS_DB;

Can we use SQL Server as a primary data storage for SharePoint 2013?

Is it possible to use external SQL Server as a primary data storage for SharePoint 2013?
Having this implemented we can generate reports, query data and it would become very very powerful to use.
Or
Is there a way to keep on using existing content databases and using external SQL Server as a secondary data storage at the same time. So I want it to be like redundant data in SQL Server.

Not sure if I understand your question correctly, SharePoint has its own content database storing SharePoint list data, we can use SSRS/SSAS integated with SharePoint mode to use sharepoint list as datasource to generate reports.

Use View Object with Alternative Data Sources in View Link

In my case, I created a view object based on alternative data source (not with SQL query). I have setQuery(null) in the override create() function for this View Object. When I use this View Object at the destination end of the View Link, the setQuery(null) will raise Jbo-26016 exception (You cannot set customer query (calling setQuery()) on a view object if it is the detail view object in a master detail view link.) which does not allow me to do that. I looked Avrom's Framework for Database API-Based ADF BC, in which he override the DBTransaction and CallableStatement in order to intercept the default query clause set by the View Link. I'd like to see if there is any alternative ways to achieve my objective?

Just following up what I found so far. I'm trying to use customized View Object based on alternative data source at the destination end of View Link with ADF 10.1.3.
1. For the View Object at the destination end of View Link, I can not call setQuery() which will raise Jbo-26016 exception.
2. I can omit the setQuery(null) call in my customized ViewObjectImpl, and as long as there is no SQL statement in the View Definition XML, it won't cause problem when calling the executeQueryForCollection() of the super class.
3. The override executeQueryForCollection() must call the super.executeQueryForCollection() in order to get appropriate result (I tried to skip the call and it does not give back any results)
4. The funny thing is, when I make getQuery() call in my customized ViewObjectImpl (I'm just trying to double check if the Query object is clean or not), the query object is set to "SELECT FROM" following the getQuery() call, and which causes the exceptions when I call super.exeuteQueryForCollection(). I found out later from the Javadoc API which is implemented in that way.
So I guess my case is resolved by not making specific call to setQuery(null).

Linked Server Problem while SQL Data Transfer using Non-sys Admin Account

Hi Team,
I've an issue while transferring the data from ServerA to ServerB. I've made the ServerB as "Linked Server" to Server A. Pre requisite like:
1) SQL Account is been created on ServerB.
2) Timeout settings for remote connections is set to "No Timeout".
When I execute the below script using Query Window, It executes successfully:
Insert into ServerB.DBName.dbo.TableName1
Select * from dbo.TableName1
But when I execute the same step by creating a SQL Job, it fails with the below error message:

Executed as user: DomainName\UserName. Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [1450]. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 1450) OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "ServerB" returned message "Login
timeout expired". [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412) OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "ServerB" returned message "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005,
this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412). The step failed.
Could you please help me in fixing the above error message and I can transfer the SQL Data between 2 Servers.

How to add connection between two Web Part Data Views in sharepoint designer 2013

Hi I have problems with connect two data view
I have a SQL server database named Mini
In Mini database I have two tables: dbo.Table_A and dbo.Table_B
Table_A design and Table_B design
In the internet browser it look like this after I add the connections, the problem is there is no connection when I click at the Blue link id 2 and 3 ??? John's and Jes's Lastname did not show up, the links is dead. that's my problem
The must strange is that, if I do the same below, in sharepoint 2010 designer it do well ?? so what in the .....

Create view link between two view objects (from programmatic data source)

Hi Experts,
Can we create a link between two view objects (they are created from programmatic datasource ; not from either entity or sql query). If yes how to create the link; ( i mean the like attributes?)
I would also like to drag and drop that in my page so that i can see as top master form and the below child table. Assume in my program i will be only have one master object and many child objects.

Easiest way to do this is to add additional transient attributes to your master view object, and then include those additional transient attributes in the list of source attributes for your view link. This way, you can get BC4J to automatically refer to their values with no additional code on your part.

Setting up MS SQL Server as a physical data source in DAC

Hi everyone,
I'm working with the latest version of BI Apps (7.9.6) and OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1. I've installed Informatica 8.6.1 and DAC on Oracle Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 64bit.
So far, everything has gone along relatively well.
Now I'm hitting an issue as I am trying to setup a DAC physical connection to our source system. We are pulling from a MS SQL Server physical source. When ever I try to connect to the MS SQL server using the DataDirect ODBC drivers from the Linux, it works fine. But when I try to test the connection using the DAC, it fails saying "Failure connecting to "<connection name>"! MSSQL driver not available!"
Has anyone successfully connected to MSSQL server as a source from the DAC? I checked the DAC documentation but it was definitely not helpful in this situation.

I've got an outstanding SR with Oracle at the moment to resolve this same problem. If I get a resolution I'll update this blog.
The problem is microsoft no longer supports MSSQL JDBC Driver 1.1, 1.2. You cannot get the 3 files msbase.jar, mssqlserver.jar and msutil.jar files. It only gives you the sqljdbc.jar file. I'm trying to get these files to see if it makes a difference.
You need to have the four files both on your Windows ~DAC\lib directory and the Unix $DAC_HOME/lib directory. Then make changes to the connection_template.xml to uncomment the SQL SERVER 2000 bit and include the SQL SERVER 2005 bit and finally make changes to the config.sh file to include the following
export SQLSERVERLIB=./lib/msbase.jar:./lib/mssqlserver.jar:./lib/msutil.jar:./lib/sqljdbc.jar

Using an ssis variable object as a data source in a foreach loop container

hi we run 2012 std. I have an ssis var of type object that is hydrated from a dynamic query in an execute sql task. I can count on one thing in this object and that is that ID will always be the first "col" on each "row".
Otherwise, resultset can contain a variety of things based on params passed to this sub pkg.
I'd like to introduce a for each loop on this object and tap into index 0, ie the id column.
The first question is "will I be able to parse this object's id in a for each component?".
In the for each loop container properties, I c an item enumerator, ado enumerator, ado.net schema rowset and variable enumerator as enumerator choices. Which do I want if the answer to the 1st question is yes?

Sorry, bad title. I just changed that.
I just tried foreach from variable enumerator and aborted with a message that said my variable "coll" doesn't have an enumerator. Going 2 try some of the other choices.
I just tried ado enumerator and from what I can c it isn't actually iterating thru my resultset even once.
I just tried a foreach item enumerator giving "column 0" a data type that matches my ID but from what I can tell the component isn't iterating thru my collection.
ado.net schema rowset doesn't look inviting at all in that it looks like it wants to go back to the db. Not what I had in mind having already gotten this resultset into memory.

Display Linked Data Source

I created a Linked Data Source in SharePoint Designer 2010. Is there any way to display the Link Data Source with a web part outside of SharePoint Designer? I do not have enough rights to create a web part page in Designer. Thanks!

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display linked data source in a web part outside the SharePoint Designer.
I suggest you can create a data view web part in SharePoint Designer to achieve it.
If you don't have enough permission to create web part page, you may need to set the corresponding permission level for you.

Syntax to query a MSSQL 2008R2 linked server from Oracle

Hi,
    I would know if it's possible to query a MSSQL 2008R2 linked server from Oracle. Actually I can query local MSSQL databases from Oracle using dg4odbc without problem but how can I query the linked servers configured on the MSSQL side ?
From MSSQL, I can query those linked servers using the [linked server name].[catalog].[owner].[table] syntax but using select * from [linked server name].[catalog].[owner].[table]@oracle_dblink_name syntax from the oracle side throw this error:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
I tried some syntax variations, e.g. putting double quotes around the object name without luck. After some hours to find a solution I'm out of idea...
So please if someone had a clue on this it would be very helpfull.

                Maybe I'm not clear in my explanations, sorry.
I want, from Oracle, to query a MSSQL linked server.
Basically I want to do that, if possible:
Oracle --> MSSQL --> linked server --> MSSQL
    ^                                                         ^

and maybe have a clue about the syntax to be used.
Knowing that querying the linked server directly form MSSQL is working and querying from Oracle to local MSSQL db is working too.
Using the right syntax should lead me to succes, am I right ? Or maybe its something that cannot be done using oracle dblinks ?

According to your description, my understanding is that the add new document link was not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this SharePoint server after you upgraded SharePoint team sites
from 2010 to 2013.
For your issue, it can be caused by integrating Office Web Apps with upgraded SharePoint Site.
Firstly please make sure claims-based authentication is used by the SharePoint web application that is used to create the new document. Only web applications that use claims-based authentication can open
files in Office Web Apps. To determine the authentication provider for a web application, follow these steps:
1.In SharePoint 2013 Central Administration, click Manage web applications.
2.Select the web application that you want to check, and click Authentication Providers on the ribbon.
The authentication provider must be displayed as Claims Based Authentication for Office Web Apps to work correctly with the web application. To resolve this issue, you can delete the web application and recreate
it using claims-based authentication, or you can change the authentication method of the web application.
Secondly, make sure the WOPI zones match on the SharePoint 2013 and the Office Web Apps Server farm.
To do this, run the following command on the SharePoint Server:
Get-SPWopiZone
The result will be one of the following:.
internal-https
internal-http
external-https
external-http
Next, run the following command on the SharePoint Server.
Get-SPWOPIBinding
In the output, look for WopiZone: zone. If the results from Get-SPWopiZone don’t match the zone that is returned by Get-SPWOPIBinding, run the Set-SPWOPIZone -Zone cmdlet on the SharePoint Server to change
the WOPI zone to match the result from Get-SPWOPIBinding.
If not work, you can try to disconnect SharePoint 2013 from Office Web Apps Server and re-configure Office Web Apps for SharePoint 2013.

Instant Client with SQLServer2005 Linked Server

I have successfully installed Instant Client 11.2.0.1.0 on my Windows Server2008. I am able to create an ODBC data source selecting the driver "Oracle in instantclient_11_2". I have also been able to link tables from Access to Oracle. I can logon to Oracle through SQLPlus and execute a query against the Oracle database. I am unsure how to set a Linked Server object in SqlServer 2005. When I use "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers" and supply the Product - DBName and Data Source - ODBC data source previously created here is the error I receive:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
"The linked server has been created but failed a connection test. Do you want to keep the linked server?"
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "DB1".
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "DB1" returned message "Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114 (Oracle in instantclient_11_2).". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)

Although the 10.1.0.3 instant client for windows doesn't appear to be "officially out", if I try to download
http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/instantclient/instantclient-basic-win32-10.1.0.3.zip and similar files, the files do exist.
Unfortunately this version still can't connect to my corporate Oracle database:
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.6.0.0, 64 bit - Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.6.0.0 - Production
Oh well, back to a full client install of Oracle 9i.
Perhaps the official release when its documented on the Instant Client download page will work.
