Add column to large array

All-
I have my data (20 columns by ~700,000 rows) stored in a binary file and I would like to add a timestamp to each row of data.  I plan to use the sample rate with the number of samples to add the time at which the sample was recorded to the data.  I read the data in (~700,000 samples) and use for a loop to great a 1D array with the same number of rows of data and then insert the 1 column into the larger array that has my data.  However this seems to take a significant amount of time and I am searching for a faster/simpler way. Ny significant I mean the vi runs for ~20min before I give up and stop it.  I posted a png of the block diagram.  Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Chris

Hi smercurio,
the vi seems to be loaded from an older "project" (pre LV8) as is shown by the automatically inserted error cluster unbundle function after the file selection...
But LV8.5 also explains why the diagram cleanup wasn't used before posting

  • Excel & ActiveX: Insert arbitrary columns from 2D array and create graph problems

    Hi there,
I want to insert data from either a 1D or 2D array from LabView into Excel and create graphs.
I used the information from the following example:
    http://www.ni.com/example/28934/en/
and was able to create a new Excel file (I'm using Excel 2010), writing data from an 1D array to a column in excel by creating a while loop and using the first element of the array to write it to a specific cell. I use the counter of the loop to write to the next cell when the loop starts over and always delete the first value, which I write to the cell, from the array until it is empty.
Now I also would like to write a 2D array - so the first column in Excel should be the first column from the array and so. Here I cannot use the loop counter directly as Excel only counts 1,2,... for the rows, but uses A,B,... to count columns. Also I do not know in advance how many columns my 2D array will contain, so creating a lookup table like (A means 1, B means 2,...) is not really an option (except there really is no other way). Is there a possibilty to convert numbers into letters or some way to 'explain' to the program that column 2 in the array means column B in Excel for example, or is there a way to insert new columns?
I figured out how to add new Worksheets and as I also need to create a certain number of Worksheets and I know that on standard 3 sheets are present when creating the file, I use the 'add' methode to create every new worksheets before worksheet 3 - I could use the same methode to create new columns in Excel, but so far I didn't find a methode to do so. Or is there a way to enter the whole 2D array at once?
Then I'd like to create a graph (in case of the 1D arrays a bar plot, when using 2D arrays a 3D plot) to view the data. I found this example:
    http://www.ni.com/newsletter/51339/en/
-> as I do not have the toolkit I'd like to do it using ActiveX directly, so I tried to do things like shown under the headline 'DIY ActiveX/.NET'
I tried to load the snippet to a new Excel file but got the error message 'microsoft.office.interop.excel.dll not found' and hence the code is not working. That confuses me a little as I would guess when this dll is not present I cannot access Excel from LabView at all, though my understanding of what I'm really doing so far is quiet limited. ;-)
Also - as far as I understand from the snippet - when creating a new chart object I should be able the create methodes for it, however when I do a right click on the chart object of an ActiveX Worksheet symbol there are none listed.
To explain my problems better I added a snippet showing my two problems: The inner of the two while loops shows how I import a 1D array. In the outer loop I seperate the columns. I know that currently this is not working as all data end up in column A of the Excel sheet - so I would need to convert the number of the outer counter to A, B,... or find a different solution.
Moreover on the snippet I placed an ActiveX Worksheet Property with the Chart Object - as I can see the difference to the Chart Object in the example code from the last link above is the color. However I'm not sure what that means and how to change/ solve this.
And just to make sure - I know this way the VI does not run as the Chart Object is placed completely wrong - I just did it, so it is included in the snippet.
I'd be thankful for any suggestions,
    Thanks!

Hello everyone and thanks for the answers.
I only have the LabView Student Edition available here - is the toolkit included in it too. How can I check if it is installed/ available and in case it is installed - where can I find it?
Today I had time to take a look at the example
Create via ActiveX Labview a XY Scatter plot graph on an excel sheet
It almost does what I want in terms of creating a graph. The only problem I could not fix, is that in this example a sheet is created where only the graph is present. i'd like to add the graph to a previously created worksheet. Today I tried get this working but it seems I stilll don't really understand what I'm doing, I'll post a snippet of my code as soon as I can access the PC with LabView on it again.
I also took a look at the other example for inserting 2D attays - it seems to be what I need, I just had no time so far to test it, I'll post an update when I could test it.
Thanks for the help so far!

  • AdvancedDataGrid - Add columns with ActionScript

I'm trying to add columns to an AdvancedDataGrid via ActionScript.
I can't get it to work.
I've tried two approaches -- One with an intermediary array to store the columns then set the adg's columns to the array; One where I assign the columns directly to the adg's columns array.
They both fail in their own way.  The columns don't "take" and the adg uses the dataProviders defaults, or there are no columns at all.
    "adg_test.mxml" has the AdvancedDataGrids/code.
"adg_test_renderer.mxml" is a renderer for one of the columns.
Would appreciate learning what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks for any help.

(You can put this code in Flash or AIR app - it will compile with no errors, but will not add any columns=( )

    Change this:

  • Filling large array into multicolumn listbox

    Hi,
I need to fill a multicolumn listbox with a large array. I feed a 2D array into the ListNames property. The problem I am having is that if the array is large (+1000) it is taking forever to update the itemnames. Is this because the listbox is going through a resize? Is there someway to intialize the ItemNames array to speed up the insertion. It is also slow if the next array insertion (overwrite) is a small array.
    thanks Michael

    Hi Michael,
Please take a look at the attached VI.
This VI allows the user to programmatically (during run time) write data to a multicolumn listbox. The VI uses the control reference to a multicolumn listbox, so this VI will work on any multicolumn listbox. The VI has inputs for the 2D array (of strings), and a start location (row and column) where the zeroth (top left) element goes. The VI returns the end row and end column of the multicolumn listbox. This is useful for writing successive entries to the listbox.
In this vi, I am currently writing a 1000*10 2D array to a multicolumn listbox and it runs very fast.
    Regards,
    Ankita A.

  • How do i output multiple arrays from a case structure to create one larger array

I currently have a vi that has one hardware input that i needed to take a measurement then be moved and take a similar measurement at a different point.  To accomplish this i used a while loop inside a case structure.  The while loop takes the measurement  and finds the numbers i need while the case structure is changed per the new measurement location.  I want to take the data points i have created in each case and output them into a single table.  I assumed to do this the best way would be to get the data from each case into its own built array and build a larger array but I cant get the information out of the case structure so that it all inputs at different places.
    thanks for your help

    Hi Ross,
attached you will find a solution for your table building problem.
I would suggest thinking about program design - having the same case content in several cases doesn't make sense. I also would not want my user to press several stop buttons depending on choosen measurement...

  • Using the value "Image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of preconfigured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .?

On a form, using the value "image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of pre-configured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .ico, .svg, .svgz, .tif, .tiff, .ai, .drw, .pct, .psp, .xcf, .psd, .raw)?
Say I wanted to add .gif, .jfif or .ico. I find this array limited, how can I add types to image?
    <input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*" id="file" />
mimeTypes.rdf does not seem to allow this.

''mimeTypes.rdf'' has nothing to do with web development. It's a file that stores your file handling preferences (e.g. if you want ZIP files automatically saved or opened).
You can't change the file types of the pre-defined content specifiers (audio/*, video/*, image/*), but you can specify additional MIME types. To add PDF to your above example,
    <pre><nowiki><input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*,application/pdf" id="file" /></nowiki></pre>

how to add column dynamically based on from_date to to_date?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Chris Jerome.

    You cannot add columns dynamically. But you can define a maximum number of numbers and then hide unused columns in your form useing SET_ITEM_PROPERTY(..,VISIBLE, PROPERTY_FALSE);

  • How to add columns in field-symbol

    Dear All,
Have made a report for HR - ZHR_CTC by using logical database and field-symbol. Report is working fine, but now have to add columns e.g business area text, positions text etc.
Have added columns in field-symbol.But not able to fetch data into that.
Data has to be fetched from different trasparent table comparing <field-symbol>-field.
Plz suggest the proper way to do it.

  • Need help optimizing the writing of a very large array and streaming it a file

    Hi,
I have a very large array that I need to create and later write to a TDMS file. The array has 45 million entries, or 4.5x10^7 data points. These data points are of double format. The array is created by using a square pulse waveform generator and user-defined specifications of the delay, wait time, voltages, etc.
I'm not sure how to optimize the code so it doesn't take forever. It currently takes at least 40 minutes, and I'm still running it, to create and write this array. I know there needs to be a better way, as the array is large and consumes a lot of memory but it's not absurdly large. The computer I'm running this on is running Windows Vista 32-bit, and has 4GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 CPU @ 1.8Mhz.
I've read the "Managing Large Data Sets in LabVIEW" article (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3625), but I'm unsure how to apply the principles here.  I believe the problem lies in making too many copies of the array, as creating and writing 1x10^6 values takes < 10 seconds, but writing 4x10^6 values, which should theoretically take < 40 seconds, takes minutes.
Is there a way to work with a reference of an array instead of a copy of an array?
Attached is my current VI, Generate_Square_Pulse_With_TDMS_Stream.VI and it's two dependencies, although I doubt they are bottlenecking the program.
Any advice will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks Ravens Fan, using replace array subset and initializing the array beforehand sped up the process immensely. I can now generate an array of 45,000,000 doubles in about one second.
However, when I try to write all of that out to TDMS at the end LV runs out of memory and crashes. Is it possible to write out the data in blocks and make sure memory is freed up before writing out the next block? I can use a simple loop to write out the blocks, but I'm unsure how to verify that memory has been cleared before proceeding.  Furthermore, is there a way to ensure that memory and all resources are freed up at the end of the waveform generation VI?
Attached is my new VI, and a refined TDMS write VI (I just disabled the file viewer at the end). Sorry that it's a tad bit messy at the moment, but most of that mess comes from doing some arithmetic to determine which indices to replace array subsets with. I currently have the TDMS write disabled.
Just to clarify the above, I understand how to write out the data in blocks; my question is: how do I ensure that memory is freed up between subsequent writes, and how do I ensure that memory is freed up after execution of the VI?
@Jeff: I'm generating the waveform here, not reading it. I guess I'm not generating a "waveform" but rather a set of doubles. However, converting that into an actual waveform can come later.
    Thanks for the replies!

You can add user defined fields into Marketing document rows, these will be new  columns and will appear U_[COLUMNAME]

  • Add Column name conditionally in a query

Hi i have an stored procedure where one parameter is passing
    @Type
    UserTable (columns) => username, canAdminDelete,canCustomerDelete,CanMerchantDelete
i wants to add column conditionally like when usertype =1 then query should be like
Select * from userTable where canAdminDelete=0
    when userType=2
Select * from userTable where canCustomerDelete=0
Like in this way. I know i can write three if statments and write specific query.
But this is just an example i have very big query actually.
    Please give some idea.
    Thanks
    Niki

    Hi Niki,
As per my understanding, I think the query post by Olaf is correct. It only return the results when column canAdminDelete = 0 and userTpe = 1 or column canCustomerDelete = 0 and userType = 2.
So when userType=1 and column canAdminDelete=1, how could you get the results? Could you please test the issue again based on the query post by Olaf.
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.
    Thanks,
