Add datafile standby (STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is set to MANUAL)

Hi
Assume
STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is set to MANUAL
and
I want to add a datafile to primary database.
According to following link:
I have to take the tablespace offline,etc..
Is there any other way, without taking the tablespace to offline mode.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96653/manage_ps.htm

OK,
Maybe I'm a bit thick.
If you can't take the tablespace offline you just can't perform the action and you need to plan it off peak hours.
Is that too difficult to understand?
And what use is copying a live controlfile?
Oh, you want to exercise recovery scenarios.
But possibly by not reading documentation and asking every silly 'doubt' in this forum!
Sorry to be grumpy.

  • Add Datafile in Logical Standby Database

    Hi,
    I have add one datafile in our primary RAC DB. We had logical standby database with file management is equal to manual. Both the primary RAC and logical standby db have the different storage structure. When the archive applied on the logical standby database its throws the error " error in creating datafile 'path'";
    Would appreciate if come to know the steps to add the datafile in this kind of environment. and how can i overcome from this problem now except skip transaction for that ddl.
    Thanks in advance.

    8.3.1.2 Adding a Tablespace and a Datafile When STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT Is Set to MANUAL
    The following example shows the steps required to add a new datafile to the primary and standby database when the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter is set to MANUAL. You must set the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter to MANUAL when the standby datafiles reside on raw devices.
    Add a new tablespace to the primary database:
    SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE new_ts DATAFILE '/disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/t_db2.dbf'
    2> SIZE 1m AUTOEXTEND ON MAXSIZE UNLIMITED;
    Verify the new datafile was added to the primary database:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    NAME
    /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/t_db1.dbf
    /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/t_db2.dbf
    Perform the following steps to copy the tablespace to a remote standby location:
    Place the new tablespace offline:
    SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE new_ts OFFLINE;
    Copy the new tablespace to a local temporary location using an operating system utility copy command. Copying the files to a temporary location will reduce the amount of time the tablespace must remain offline. The following example copies the tablespace using the UNIX cp command:
    % cp /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/t_db2.dbf
    /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/s2t_db2.dbf
    Place the new tablespace back online:
    SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE new_ts ONLINE;
    Copy the local copy of the tablespace to a remote standby location using an operating system utility command. The following example uses the UNIX rcp command:
    %rcp /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/s2t_db2.dbf standby_location
    Archive the current online redo log file on the primary database so it will get transmitted to the standby database:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT;
    Use the following query to make sure that Redo Apply is running. If the MRP or MRP0 process is returned, Redo Apply is being performed.
    SQL> SELECT PROCESS, STATUS FROM V$MANAGED_STANDBY;
    Verify the datafile was added to the standby database after the archived redo log file was applied to the standby database:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    NAME
    /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/s2t_db1.dbf
    /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/s2t_db2.dbf

  • Add datafile dataguard from physical  RAC to standby RAC

    Hello we have a 3 node cluster RAC 10g on the primary and RAC 10g on the standby.We use as db storage ASM wich is configured over raw devices and file management omf.The same groups DATA and FRA on both servers.STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is manual.
    We need to add a datafile on the primary safely.Can you offer me some ideeas?
    Thank you!

    Hello;
    Change STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT to "auto" before you add the file and then leave it set to "auto". ( set this to AUTO on both Primary and Standby )
    STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT enables or disables automatic standby file management.
    If you leave it set to MANUAL you may create unwanted file in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and cause issues with the MRP process.

  • How to add datafile to standby database

    Hi,
    We have standby database on another site and we are using manual recovery. How to add datafile to standby database after datafile is added to primary database.
    We are on Oracle 9i R2.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    When you recover the standby database after you added a datafile to the production, you will get an error that the file that needs recovery does not exist.
    At this point you can connect to the standby and issue:
    alter database create datafile '<original_name>' as '<new_name>';the new name is optional if the location of the files are the same.
    After that, you can continue recovering the standby database.

    If your ipod is set for manual update, how do you create and add playlists to the ipod?

    Thanks! I have several ipod books and they told me about manually updating songs but not playlists. That tutorial is VERY helpful. I assume that if you manually update the playlist, all the songs contained in it would have had to been previously manually updated to the ipod....to say it another way, updating the playlist does not transfer any songs. Am I correct?

    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

    HOW to Setting IP manually Nokia 500 WLAN ?
    Moderator's notes: Moved to own thread.

    Hi masmuhay,
    Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
    You can set up WLAN manually by following these instructions:
    Go to Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Network destinations
    If you have not yet set up your WLAN, select Access point to add a new access point. Give the set up wizard all the information it requires. Otherwise, just select Internet
    Select your WLAN connection in the list (under Internet) and Options > Advanced settings > IPv4 (or IPv6 depending on your connection) to set up your IP and DNS address manually
    Let us know if this helps,

  • Autoextend user tablespace or add datafile

    Hello,
    My USERS tablespace had problem today when loading a file using sqlldr. It stopped loading halfway through the file.
    The allocated is set to 1900 mb and the used was at 1850. I only have 1 datafile for users tablespace. I have autoextensible to YES.
    Why did it not extend the tablespace when I should still have 2gb free??
    I dropped a couple unused user tables and it reduced the used amount, then I was able reran the sqlldr load and it completed.
    Should I create a new datafile
    ALTER TABLESPACE USERS ADD DATAFILE ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users01.dbf’ SIZE 2000M AUTOEXTEND OFF;
    or increase the allocation
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users.dbf’ RESIZE 3000M;
    Thanks for the help...

    Why did it not extend the tablespace when I should still have 2gb free??
    Might be maxsize was defined at the time of tablespace creation
    For example
    SQL> select DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLESPACE', 'USERS') from dual;
    DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLESPACE','USERS')
    CREATE TABLESPACE "USERS" DATAFILE
    'C:\ORACLE\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\USERS.DBF' SIZE 104857600
    AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10485760[b] MAXSIZE 5120M
    LOGGING ONLINE PERMANENT BLOCKSIZE 8192
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO
    Should I create a new datafile
    ALTER TABLESPACE USERS ADD DATAFILE
    ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users01.dbf’ SIZE
    2000M AUTOEXTEND OFF;
    or increase the allocation
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE
    ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users.dbf’ RESIZE
    3000M; It is good idea to add new file and having multiple file with same size.
    Also in future if needed you can relocate datafile to reduce I/O contention.

  • Have music set to manually fade in IMovie...

    but it continues to cut off abruptly.  Any suggestions?

    A playlist is simply a list of songs in the library.
    Every song in a playlist is in the library.
    Songs in the library do not need to be in any playlist

    Then you must manually delete from your iPod touch (not itouch).
    Instead I have to delete it from the music folder. How do I delete from playlist and its gone forever?
    Do you want to delete it from the iPod touch or from iTunes?
    Select it under Music and press Delete.
    Or select it in a playlist and Shift Delete to remove it from the playlist and from the library.
    If you are Manually managing, deleting from iTunes will not delete from the iPod touch.

  • Music appears grey with a sync symbol on iPhone 4 (iOS 6.0.1) on iTunes (newest version as of 11/20/2012) and will not play on iPhone. It is set to manually manage music.

    So I got a brand new iPhone 4 from a Sprint retailer, and it came with the software that was available at the time of the release. I left it that way for a while and put music on it through iTunes (latest version as of 11/20/2012) with no problems. Then I updated the software on the iPhone to iOS6.0.1 and when i tried to put music on it through iTunes like normal the songs showed up in the library of the iPhone (still on the computer) however they were grey and they had a syncing symbol to the left as if it were still syncing the music. I waited and waited but it would not go away. then I clicked the arrow at the middle top of iTunes where it shows you what song is playing and everything else iTunes is doing, and it did not say that it was syncing the music like normal. Basically the library indicated the music was still syncing but iTunes was not putting it on. I currently have it set to manually manage music. I do not want to switch it to automatically sync or reset my iPhone because I will lose my information. Any immediate help would be greatly appreciated!

    When I went to restore my phone, I may have found the cause of these problems. I never deleted all of my original synced songs before enabling iTunes Match.
    When I just went to do the restore, I figured I'd delete all of my songs, then disable iTunes Match. After deleting about 3.5 GB of music and disabling iTunes Match, I ran the sync to backup my iPhone. It said there was still 2.2 GB of music. I checked my phone just in case and there was 2.2 GB there, probably the original synced songs that I never removed.
    Anyway, I'm doing the restore now just in case and will respond tomorrow with how everything is working.

  • How can I sync a (one) song from my computer to my iPad without syncing the entire library even though i have my iPad set to manually manage music?

    Whenever I try to move just one song from my iTunes library to my iPad, it will start syncing like 300 other songs randomly so I cancel everything. I have my iPad set to manually manage music but it still does that. And what's worse, I never get that one song I chose in the first place. The same thing with photos. I'll sync a photo and it starts syncing music as well. But at least I get the photo just fine.

    Easy solution when on itunes simply go to the music tab and press on music library then browse what file which contains the music you want to be added same with photos
