EXIFTOOL(1)           User Contributed Perl Documentation          EXIFTOOL(1)
NAME
exiftool - Read and write meta information in files
SYNOPSIS
       exiftool [OPTIONS] [-TAG...] [--TAG...] FILE...
       exiftool [OPTIONS] -TAG[+-<]=[VALUE]... FILE...
exiftool [OPTIONS] -tagsFromFile SRCFILE [-SRCTAG[>DSTTAG]...] FILE...
       exiftool [ -ver | -list[w|f|wf|g[NUM]|d|x] ]
For specific examples, see the EXAMPLES sections below.
DESCRIPTION
A command-line interface to Image::ExifTool, used for reading and writ-
ing meta information in image, audio and video files.  FILE is a source
file name, directory name, or "-" for the standard input.  Information
is read from the source file and output in readable form to the console
(or written to an output text file with the -w option).
To write or copy information, new values are specified with the
-TAG=[VALUE] syntax or the -tagsFromFile or -geotag options.  This
causes FILE to be rewritten, and by default the original file is pre-
served with "_original" appended to the file name.  (Be sure to verify
that the new file is OK before erasing the original.)  Once in write
mode, exiftool will ignore any read-specific options.
Below is a list of file types and meta information formats currently
       supported by ExifTool (r = read, w = write, c = create):

  • I am using Photoshop CS3 and the image looks ok on screen, but when I print the image is greenish.

I have checked with the printer's help desk and they say that this problem is not the printer, and there are no settings to change on the printer. Adobe no longer supports CS3. The immages look OK on screen, but when I print the page, the immage comes out kinda greenish, (more like, quite greenish). I don't know how to fix this problem or where to adjust any settings. Also to mention, the images are completed after a 2 day process, and this musst be done by Dec 22, 2011. Are there simple print options that will fix this problem?

You're getting into color management territory here and you need to target troubleshooting more specifically.
Basically you have a document profile that defines the colors. That profile is then converted (translated) into
    1. A monitor profile for display, and
    2. A printer/paper/ink profile for print.
If both profiles are good you'll get a reasonable match (allowing for the inherent differences between screen and paper).
If they don't match either could be wrong. So first off, is the monitor calibrated, or are you using the Windows default (sRGB), or a manufacturer provided profile?
Second, printer color management can be a bit obscure in that some manufacturers "hide" color management by doing it all under the hood and expecting sRGB input. Others, like Epson, allow you to pick the profile. This makes everything more transparent and makes troubleshooting much easier.
    EDIT: cross post.

Hello! I use Photoshop CS3 and Yosemite. Recently, after logging info information into the FILE INFO panel, I am unable to close out the window. I am able to save & close out the image, but then I have to completely close Photoshop and re-open the program to work on a new image. Frustrating! Any help to remedy this problem? Many thanks!

Try resetting the Photoshop preference file: Press and hold Cmd+Opt+Shift and start Photoshop. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

How to get accurate photo printouts using  FlexScan S1932 screen, Photoshop CS3 and Canon MX925 ? ALL ARE calibrated with i1Pro . WHO SHOULD GOVERN THE PRINTOUT , THE CS3 OR THE PRINTER ?

You need to work with the calibration parameters to get a good match from screen to print. There are no fixed values - basically whatever settings produce a match are the right ones.
First, set the white point - luminance and color - so that screen white is a visual equivalent to paper white. You can be very specific about this, with a viewing booth right next to the display and a particular paper as target. Or you can take a more generalistic approach. That too will usually work well, as long as you keep the aim in sight: screen white = paper white.
Don't trust the white point presets. You will usually have to adjust to compensate for your working environment. Make sure you can adjust both along the blue/yellow Kelvin scale and the green/magenta axis. Any given Kelvin value may well be wrong on the green/magenta axis.
Next set a realistic black point. This is important. Monitor manufacturers throw about completely unrealistic contrast ranges that you will never see on paper. A good glossy inkjet paper will be in the vicinity of 250-300:1, or a black point around 0.4 - 0.5 cd/m² if your white point is at 120. If you have a monitor that goes down to, say, 0.2, which most monitors today will, you're in for an unpleasant surprise.
Leave gamma at 2.2. Gamma is remapped from profile to profile and is "invisible" - the net result is always linear. You just want to stay close to native so that the monitor behaves at its best.
If you have a wide gamut monitor soft proofing in Photoshop can be useful. With a standard gamut monitor it's mostly a waste of time since monitor gamut is the limiting one.
Oh, and let Photoshop manage color. Make sure you have the right paper/ink profile and also make sure you have the right paper selected in the printer driver. This controls the total amount of ink.

  • How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
    A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

    Zeno
curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

First of all, I would have to say that getting in touch with you is a nightmare and I am not at all happy that I can't just email or live chat with someone who can help!  I am not a technical person, I just want to be able to use Photoshop Elements and get on with it. I bought Photoshop Elements via Amazon some months ago and it worked fine.  I then got a message that advised that the trial version would expire, which it subsequently has (I have been trawling your site for weeks and weeks trying to find an email or phone contact to get some assistance).  Relucltantly, I am now typing this - and I suspect it will not help in the slightest!  I bought the FULL not TRIAL edition of Photoshop Elements and I have contacted Amazon who confirmed this, but say I need to contact you.  Can you please let me know how I can resolve this?  Louise A Fraser

Hi Louise, sorry to hear of your problems. This is not Adobe. We are mainly support volunteers, other users like you, trying to help one another.  You need to contact Adobe directly for activation and licencing issues. Click the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
    2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on. Don’t let them pass the buck. Stay connected and ask to speak with a supervisor if necessary.

  • Canon 5D Mark II, Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2.4

    All,
I know that this has to have been answered elsewhere, but I have not found what I'm looking for.
I have purchased a new Canon 5D Mark II camera which will arrive Wednesday.  As far as software on my Mac Pro, I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium, which includes (obviously) Photoshop CS3.  I am also running Lightroom 2.4.  I am under the understanding that in order to open RAW files from the 5D Mark II, you need to have Adobe Camera Raw 5.X, which is not supported by Photoshop CS3.  I also understand that Lightroom 2.4 CAN open the 5D Mark II RAW files.  First off, are both of my statements to this point accurate?  If so, can I use Lightroom to open the RAW files, do whatever adjusting I would like in Lightroom, then export the modified file (in TIFF, for example) to Photoshop CS3, and go on my way?  Or will this not work?
If the answer is no, what are my options for using the software that I have with my Canon 5D Mark II?  Am I REQUIRED, now, to upgrade to Photoshop CS4?  If so, can I buy the CS4 Upgrade for Design Premium, if my CS3 Design Premium is the Education version?
Thanks for any help on this...I'm hoping to avoid spending any more money than I need to in software just to be able to process images from my new camera.  I'm sure I could always use the Canon supplied software to open the RAW files, but I'd prefer to do so in the Adobe family of programs.

    cabasner,
I upgraded to CS4 when I got my 5D2, and I can't stress enough how much better CS4 is. It's worth the upgrade even if you didn't get the 5D2. It's more stable that CS3, and ACR is insanely better (as is the Bridge... that's actually usable now!). ACR in CS4 has Adjustment brushes for Exposure... that's right, touch-up areas in ACR and it's totally non-destructive. Vibrance has been added also. In PS, your Dodge & Burn tools have a totally new algorithm which works so much better it's nuts. You even have a Legacy checkbox to see the difference. With the insane amount of image data in the 5D2, those tools work very well. You also have OpenGL support in CS4 now, which means you can view the image at any percentage and it looks like 25/50/75/100. And since your graphics card is now used, Photoshop CS4 is FASTER. And with the Clone Tool you can see what will be put down on the image inside the tool's circle, BEFORE you press the mouse. Talk about an easy way to line up the edit! Oh, then there's all the Adjustment layers... man, talk about a non-destructive time-saving edit! And the panels now stay off to the side, not covering up the image anymore. There's more, I'm, not even remembering everything. Adobe got PS right with this version. I would spring for CS4 in a New York minute, it's the perfect partner for our 5D2s.

  • How do I add video in my Photoshop images and graphics? I need it to play in Adobe Acrobat when I'm done.

I designed an electronic press kit and I need the video to play on it. I'm getting the video link from YouTube so I was wondering how to make that happen. I already tried putting the YouTube link behind the video layer so it can be clickable in Acrobat, but when I sent it to the online magazine forum there was a lot of lines in it. I saw this YouTube video on how to do it but it requires ImageReady TUTORIAL-Add video to your Photoshop images and graphics! - YouTube. I don't have the Photoshop to ImageReady button in my PS....HELP! How do I get this done?!?!?

That tutorial is extremely old. ImageReady was last used in CS2. In other words that program no longer exists.
Luckily video made its way into photoshop so you can easily import your video into photoshop.
Instead of an animation panel, it is now called the timeline panel. When the panel first opens it will ask you if you want an animation or a movie. Choosing movie will reduce the number of layers required down to just 2, one for the movie and one for the TV image. Since this is a timeline, you can split the timeline to remove any portion of the video you do not want or need to add an effect to that area of the timeline. Each time you split the video, it will move it to a new layer for you.
You can still export as an animated gif by using the File>Save As dialog box. or You can export as a movie and choose another video format. Which format and codec you can choose will depend on how many other video apps of Adobe's you also have installed.

  • Color Management, Photoshop CS3 and Epson Inkjet Printer

I have been down this road before but here goes again...
    Im using Photoshop CS3.
Im printing on an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 using Photo quality inkjet paper.
I know this printer is capable of very good quality prints.
Thing is I can not figure out the correct combination of color management settings to get a decent print out of Photoshop or InDesign.
I have read that you are supposed to turn off all printer color management and let Adobe manage the color. Doesnt seem to work.
I just get overly magenta images that look awful.
If I let the Epson color management control color I can get a lot closer but the print out is far from accurate or high quality.
So what the heck IS the correct protocol for printing to an Epson inkjet printer from an Adobe app.
BTW, I do seem to get a fairly decent print out of something like a PDF which I understand does its own postscript conversion before hitting the printer.
Is this what my issue is?
Does Photoshop or InDesign require postscript ripper software to get decent results out of an inkjet printer?

Have spent hours with both Adobe and Epson support people. I've read several of these forums. Is there an insurmountable problem with CS3 and Epson (2200/2400 are mine)? I have the Leopard patches and upgrade 10.5.4.
With Photoshop managing the color I get prints that are slightly underexposed and carry a pink cast. Color management is off. With the printer managing the color I get prints that are too green and dark. Epson advice here is to have color management off. There are two other choices for management but to adjust a perfectly balanced print to the printer's whim seem like cruel punishment.
Have a calibrated monitor and my CS2 works beautifully. Perhaps the best idea is to just go back to CS2 until Adobe and Epson can decide what to do. According to Adobe people, the CS3 gives much of the management back to Epson. According to Epson -- with CS3, you should choose the printer to manage the color (since this seems to be the trend between the two companies) but we users are not happy with the results.
What is the solution for right now?

How do i calibrate monitor to get print that looks like pic on screen?
    I am using Photoshop CS3.
When I get a pic the way I want it on the screen and try to print it, it prints much darker. I could calibrate my iMac monitor for photoshop but can't find a way of doing it with my Satellite P200.
My printer is a Canon ip4300 and I'm using Canon ink and paper.

I think you need additional software and hardware to calibrate yout monitor.

  • Dark Prints with Photoshop CS3 and CS4 but not Lightroom

Hi, To start,I have calibrated my dell monitor with eye-one pro as well as my epson 7800. i am running vista 64 bit on my PC...
When i use photoshop (CS3 or CS4) the images look fine on the screen and come out really dark on the printer. When i use lightroom, the images look fine on the screen and fine on the printer.
Any guidance on how to "fix" photoshop would be appreciated. By the way, in photoshop print dialogue, i color manage the document, photoshop manages the color, the printer profile is set to the I-1 custom printer profile, rendering is perceptual, and black point compensation is checked.
    Thanks,
    Joe

I manage color and service bureau printing at the college I work for, and we've been fighting the upgrade to CS4 for some time. Here's what we have so far.
Apple dual G5 machine with 10.5.8
    Adobe PS CS3
    Adobe PS CS4
3 x Epson 4800 Pro printers using an IP connection and using Driver version #6.11
We manage color with custom created profiles in eyeOne with eyeOne pro hardware.
When moving to CS4 for printing prints have gond dark and the color has taken an odd shift.
When printing with CS3, we get consistent color and density
All things being equal in the print settings for each version of PS.
I have heard that CS4 addresses the printing system differently (using an updated printing api from Apple) is this true?
When running prints from within another app (any app really) that prints directly through the OS, we get similar results as CS4.
The best explaination that we've been able to get is that the (epson) print driver is operating on the older api calls, and that when the OS (or CS4) is operating on the newer calls, the color and density issues arise.
    Can anyone verify this?

  • Photoshop CS3 and Epson R2400

Since I installed Leo on my Mac Pro, my R2400 will not work as it used to. I can not access the printers option menu where I can setup the paper, printer resolution, etc. When I am printing out of photoshop CS3 I will only get a standard printer menu provided by Mac OS and not by epson. I can´t change any settings and the prints come out terrible. I use the latest Epson driver - 6.12 - but nothing works as it should. Does anybody experience the same problems or might have a solution for this? I got plenty of print jobs to do before christmas! Thank you for any hints ... Jochen, Germany

    Jochen,
I managed to get my 2400 printing OK now. I spent a completely wasted hour e-talking to Epson UK Support yesterday. They offered nothing useful and spent all the time telling me to do obvious things, which was very frustrating. Then I decided to go back to basics. I ditched all the personalised settings in all the print dialogue boxes and tried printing with only basic settings. I had professional print profiles for each of my papers and printers, but none of these will now work and I think that they were the crux of the problem.
    This is what I did:
Step 1 - I turned off my printer. After ditching the entire Epson folder from the library and restarting Leopard, I downloaded the current Mac drivers from the Epson Support website and started by reinstalling the 2400 from scratch. I turned on my printer. I ran the downloaded installer and then went into Apple/Preferences/printers and faxes and removed the 2400 that leopard had installed with the gutenburg driver. I then installed the 2400 again through this screen and checked that the downloaded Epson 6.12 driver had installed. It had.
Step 2 - I went to page set-up for the photo I wanted to print in Photoshop CS3 and in Format For: I selected Epson Stylus Photo R2400 and in paper size: I selected A4 (sheet feeder - borderless) and clicked OK
Step 3 - I selected File/print. In Printer I selected Epson Stylus Photo R2400. In colour handling I selected Printer Manages Colour and in Rendering Intent I selected Relative Colorimetric. The I pressed the Print button.
step 4 - I then pressed Proceed in the larger than paper dialogue box taht then appeared and this closed.
Step 5 - This brings you to the Epson Printer Dialogue box. I selected the Print Settings section and selected Premium Glossy Photo paper as the Media Type. In colour settings I selected Epson Standard (sRGB). and selected the Advanced radar button below and best photo as the print quality. When I pressed print I got a good quality print....and it seems to work every time now!
I have also tried this with my Epson 950 and it also works. In fact I am getting better prints with this one than I was before Leopard!
Don't ask my why it is working this way. I don't know. I used to let Photoshop CS3 manage the colour using my profiles, but this will not work now. I suspect that as my profiles were done in tiger they are Tiger dependent. I will contact my supplier next week and discuss this with him. I am still disappointed that I seem to have lost complete control over my printing and blame Apple and Epson in equal measure. From my "discussions" with Epson support it is clear that their "fix" is aimed at the amateur user and not those requiring control over the production phase!
    I hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS3 and  iMac

Before buying my iMac I used Photoshop CS3 on my PC lap top. Now having bought the iMac which is brilliant I cannot really afford to purchase another copy of Photoshop CS3 at the moment. I have VMFusion on my iMac so is it feasable that I can load my Windows version of CS3 onto the PC side of my iMac through VMFusion. Will it work properly? Also I have 4GB ram on my iMac which automatically allocates 2GB of ram when I am running it in PC mode. Is there anyway of getting more ram allocated to the PC side as 2GB to run CS3 isn't very much.
Many thanks in advance if anyone can answer my question.
    Maggi

There are several things you can try, first is to call Adobe back and see if you can get to someone willing to help, being pleasantly pursistent helps. Don't take a no the first time keep trying, next is after you have exhaused all efforts there is to ask about an upgrade to CS3 for Mac. Yes that will cost some money but at least it keeps you in the OS X enviorment.
Last yes CS3 will work fine on Fusion albeit you still haven't transitioned to OS X. However regarding your original question about memory allocation that I don't know.

  • Photoshop CS3 and Mavericks problem?

Using photoshop CS3 in Mavericks and I get a ‘can't save file because it is already in use or was left open’ message when I try and save a photoshop file.
Found a fix online which is to turn off ‘Show preview column’ in show view options, but this is a pain because I like to have the preview with image and file info.
Is there a way around this, seems a strange way to get around this problem.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This is a user-to-user forum, so no one here works for Apple. None of us have any idea what they have running behind the scenes. I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait and see like the rest of us. It's against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions to speculate about unannounced or unreleased products, but the Macworld Expo starts in San Francisco in a little more than two weeks. In the past, Apple has released software updates at the same time as the expo to support new software and hardware. No one here can speculate if this will include the update you're looking for, however.
