Add .jar-App to Launchpad

Hi,
I've a .jar-Application which i've already moved to the applications-folder, but it doesn't appear in my launchpad.
Does Launchpad only accept .app-files?
Is there a possibility to add it manually?

A .jar isn't an app. It is the data for a Java program. When you "launch" it, you are launching Java, which is the App, and it loads the jar.
You'd have to use something to create a wrapper around the jar, not just a plain jar.
I believe you can do that in XCode.
You could use Automator to create an Application:
Put the jar file somewhere that it will stay put (ie don't move it), then add it to the Get Specified Finder Items.
If you want a custom icon, get info on the application you made and paste an image into the icon in the top left of the Get Info window.

Oops, sorry. In #1 I meant to say, "Can you successfully launch _iPhoto_ from its icon in the Applications folder?"
The reason I suggested my two steps is that I've seen situations where Migration Assistant had been run (after the purchase of a new computer and a subsequent data transfer) where iPhoto did indeed seem confused when opening it from the Dock. After running it from the Applications folder, it would then successfully open when selected in the Dock. I thought that a similarly successful launch of iPhoto from the Applications folder may indeed help the problematic launching from Launchpad.
As babowa said, icons are automatically added to launchpad. However, Launchpad only references the Applications folder (as I recall). If iPhoto had been moved from /Appllications, then _perhaps_ a question mark may have been present or remained in Launchpad. And a simple restart can often correct such oddball behavior.

I want to add an app to launchpad. I can see the app in programms but i want also to see it in launchpad.
The suggestions for mac os x lion don't work for yosemite.

There are two ways to get an application to show up in the LaunchPad... one is to install the application in your Applications folder. This is where LaunchPad is looking for applications. It doesn't care if you got it through the App Store or if it's an Apple application or not. The second way is to drag the application over the LaunchPad icon residing on the dock and release it. This will create a symbolic link to the application without actually moving the application into the Applications folder. It has to be the application itself, not an installer for it, not a folder containing the application, the application. The application should be added to the LaunchPad if you don't rush it, hold it over the LaunchPad icon for a second or two.
Check to make sure it's not already in there... you won't see the LaunchPad dock icon do anything, you will just see the app you are dropping disappear. It could be on a second page. Click on the little dots when you launch LaunchPad to see if it's on one of the other pages.
If that didn't do the trick, try resetting LaunchPad (note that any applications or folders you created/added in LaunchPad will have to be recreated/added):
In Terminal, enter these two commands:
defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool true;killall Dock
then
defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool false;killall Dock
If that still isn't working, what is this app's name and where does it currently reside on your system?

I have noticed that I have apps missing in launchpad that I do have in my apps folder.
How do I add these to launchpad.
On the flip side, then how can I remove apps from launchpad that I hardly ever use?

Did you check the second page of Launchpad?
Click the second white dot in the bottom middle of the Launchpad screen.

Can I add a Hyperlink to Launchpad?

I recently added a hyperlink from Safari to my desktop. Is there a way to move this to Launchpad? I tried dragging it over to Launchpad but it didn't work. I don't want to clutter my desktop which is why I want to put it in Launchpad and I don't want to access it from my Bookmark's everytime.

I know this is an old thread, but in case anyone else runs across this, you can add a bookmark to Launchpad by creating an Automator app that opens the url you want to visit and saving the app in your applications folder.

sorry to botter you, but i really need help for this, i really dont know how to do it. i have my prog taht i want to put in jar file, that cause no problem, but my program isnt fully functionnal because he use a jar file (my driver to acces my database) taht i had mount in forte. but i cant put in in my class file, because i want my jar to be able to run everuwhere on any computer taht have the jre installed. so in resume, i want to add jar file in my program... can i have to add it in my jar file, or decomrpesse it and put the folder like org.postgre.mfileshere... ????? i really dont know

ok If I understood, you need to add a third part Jar
file to your own Jar File App so...
Yes, you can decompress it in a directory tree and
merge it with your application (i.e) if you have a jar
file like this:
br.com.yourApp.util
and a third part jar file like this:
br.com.thirdPart.tools
br.com.thirdPart.util
you will have these directory trees:
br/com/yourApp/util/
br/com/thirdPart/tools/
br/com/thirdPart/util/
then you can marge it in a unique tree:
br/com/yourApp/util/
....../thirdPart/tools/
................/util/
then you can make a new jar file with it...
.....OR YOU CAN ADD THE PATH where your JDBCDrive is
placed to the classpath of your application just using
the -classpath option execution string of you
application, like this:
C:\jreHome\bin\java.exe -jar -classpath
.;C:\someDir\thirdPart.jar yourApp.jar
That's the better way to do it and then everything

I think that Launchpad can take a while getting used to, but it's cool. I have alot of web sites I vist to alot like Facebook. Can I add them to Launchpad like in iOS?

It lets you make web apps out of sites and you can add these to Launchpad. In some cases you have to mess around with the icon, but a Google search often comes up with something suitable

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.

I tried to use the attached command through TERMINAL :
sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';" && killall Dock
sqlite3: Error: too many options: "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';"
Use -help for a list of options.
But i didn't work as I got the above error message.

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job). What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program

Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software. (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.) The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance. I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers. When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install. We did! But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!
