Add metadata (non-image data) to an image

Hello,
I want to read an image and add metadata (non-image data) like copyright... to the image and write it. I am able to read metadata of an image but couldn't add (write) into it...
Help required urgently
Regards
Mamatha

instead of data streams, why not just write the blob's bytes to the response output stream directly, then in the applet, you don't need a URLConnection object to get the image, just call getImage() in the applet with the URL.

• Help: BufferedImage image data order

I want to create an image by myself. What I have is the width, height and image data. The image data is arranged B,G,R,B,G,R,.... However, when I call BufferedImage constructor with the image type TYPE_3BYTE_BGR and use setPixels to input the data. The color of resulting image is wrong.
The setPixels() function apparently assume the input image data is arranged R,G,B, R,G,B,...
Here is the snippet of code:
imagedata = new BufferedImage(width,height,BufferedImage.TYPE_3BYTE_BGR);
WritableRaster raster = imagedata.getRaster();
raster.setPixels(0,0,width,height,image);I have specified the image type is Type_3Byte_BGR, the setPixels should know the input image has the order of B,G,R. Does the setPixels function assume the fixed order (R,G,B) no matter what the image type is ?
Thanks.

In all the reading I've done with Rasters, there seems to one word that jumps out at me over and over again--"standard". I've not had the occasion to use anything other than RGB, but with as heavily as "standard" is used in what I've read to do what I have had to do, it wouldn't suprise me if RGB was the "standard" used in Rasters.
I'd be interested if you find anything different.
Thanks,

• How to add metadata to multiple images via Template

Hi
Wonder if anyone can tell me if it is possible to add Metadata to multiple images using a metadata template. I see that I can add to multiple using Organizer but with that you have to type in the metadata. In Elements 11 I can do it using a template but only for 1 image at a time.
Is there a way to do this in Elements 11 or Organizer?
Thanks in Advance.

In the File properties dialog of the editor you can enter your values in the metadata tabs, then use the 'Import' button on the bottom of the dialog, switch to 'Export' and that exports your values as a template.
As far as I know, this is to be used in the advanced dialog of the downloader : you can use your templates at import time for a batch of images.
Otherwise, when you have selected many images in the organizer, you can click on the 'Add IPTC data' button in the tags panel on the right side : you have to enter the data which will be applied to all the selected files.

• Aperture cannot add GPS data to multiple images at the same time

I am new to Aperture and have been using it for a week or so now. Today I tried to add GPS data to a number of images and found out, it appears Aperture can only add GPS data to one image at the time. When I select multiple images to add the GPS data to, it just doesn't do anything. It leaves the GPS data blank.
Here is what I do:
From the Info-tab I select "GPS" from the drop down menu
At the bottom of the info tab I show the map
In the map's search box I enter the location I want to assign to the photo(s)
From the resulting drop down menu I select the locatiion I want and press the "assign to location" button
As long as I choose only a single image, this works fine and the GPS Data is added. Not so when I select more than a single image. After pressing the "assign to location" button it seems as if the GPS data is added (there is no message indicating otherwise), but the GPS data in the selected images is blank.
What am I doing wrong ?
Additional info
I have been testing this a bit more and the behavior is even more strange: When you select multiple images in Aperture, they get a thin white border, except the one that you touch last (normally the last image of the selection) that will have a thicker border around it. It appears that, when selecting multiple images, the GPS data is ONLY assigned to the photo in the selected setthat has the thicker border (?????)

Rereading your post, I think the problem is, that you are assigning the location from the Info panel and not from the Metadata menu. The Info panel and the Metadata menu ar behaving differently.
The Info panel will always only affect the primary selection, but the Metadata menu will work on all selected images (unless "Primary only" is checked). So , if you want to assign your location to multiple images, use "Metadata > Assign location" instead of the little map in the "Info" panel.
Or use the "Places" view. Then you can drag all images at once to the same pin on the map.

• HT201250 Hello i am using TimeMachine to back-up entire Mac image (data + system) on an usb-local drive. I would like (on top of it) add a specific plan to back up some files on a remote network drive. Does TimeMachine support multiple back-up plans ? How

Hello i am using TimeMachine to back-up entire Mac image (data + system) on an usb-local drive. I would like (on top of it) add a specific plan to back up some files on a remote network drive. Does TimeMachine support multiple back-up plans ? How ?

Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.
More information on these topics can be found here:

• How can I see the entire image date in Metadata EXIF DD/MM/YY?

I cannot see the full image date under metadata EXIF, just the day and month. Could you help me to see the year the picture was taken? Thanks a lot.

Where are you not seeing the full date information? If it is on one of the Browser Metadata Overlays, you may have to increase the size of the thumbnails or remove some of the other data being shown (and/or the metadata labels).
On my Metadata Overlays for Browser, Viewer, and Tooltip, as well as on the Metadata tab of the Inspector, the full date-time stamp is shown, e.g.:
10/26/11 4:23:41 p EDT

• Update XSLT engine, add metadata to images.

Hello,
It'd be super fantastic if the XSLT engine could be updated and support XSLT 2.0. Also have the option to format and indent on export.
I don't think I can add metadata to images within InDesign. That be another plus.
Regards,
Eric

It shouldn't be too hard (I guess ...) to make the XSLT processor a user-definable choice. That way I could use my trusty Saxon 8.0, wiv' extensions, smack right inside ID.

• Issue - image date recognized only after metadata saved and re-loaded

I have been changing the Image Date on digitized scans to reflect the date the picture was taken, rather than when it was scanned. I use the "Date Created" field that is under "Image" in the IPTC data section. The Library Filter for date will not recognize that date until I save the Metadata to File, and then reload it (Read Metadata from file). Version 4.0beta

You've stumbled on two issues:
1. If you change the IPTC Date Created to a full date/time, e.g. 2010-01-01T00:00:00, the Library Filter Bar doesn't recognize the new date/time. To avoid this problem, rather than changing IPTC Date Created in LR, use the Metadata > Edit Capture Time to change the date/time of an image. LR will write this date/time into the IPTC:DateCreated and XMP:DateCreated fields.
2. LR has never fully supported the current metadata standards with respect to date/time. In particular, while the XMP standard allows for partial dates (e.g. 2010 or 2010:02), LR gets confused by them. For example, you can use Exiftool to set XMP:DateCreated to "2010", import the file, and observe several problems:
- LR doesn't complain about a date format it doesn't support.
- The date doesn't appear in the Date Time Original field of the Metadata panel.
- The date/time under the thumbnail has the missing month, day, and time set to 1/1 12:00:00 AM.
- The Library Filter Bar gets confused.
Note that the Metadata > Edit Capture Time doesn't allow partial dates.
I suggest you file a report at the Lightroom Feedback Forum, where Adobe wants all problems to be reported:

• Metadata: Image Date/ Time

Is it possible to change the Image Date and Time in the metadata to a version without having to re import?

Correct, I am referring to the EXIF data. Aperture can change this data using the aforementioned "Metadata", "Adjust Date and Time..." feature, it's only that Aperture can't (as far as I can tell) set a batch of photo to the exact date and time among the entire batch.
Perhaps I'll be able to find or create an Apple Script to do this outside of Aperture?
It's a shame though as I can't possibly be the only one with a large scanned collection from years ago I'm trying to archive in proper date order. This would be a great new added feature Apple, if you are also reading this! (I've already submitted the feature request some weeks ago)

• Import from Designer crashes with IMAGE data type

Hello,
I'd like to report an issue with Data Modeler while importing from Oracle Designer. If you consider this a bug, please let me know if I need to do anything else to request a fix for it.
I've used the import > Oracle Designer Model tool to import an application model. The import runs fine for a while, then crashes with a message "There are errors in import - check log file".
The application to be imported has 509 domains, 963 entities to import.
The summary info displayed after the import (when I close the error message pop up) is:
All statements: 1472
Imported statements: 538
Failed statements: 0
Not recognized statements: 934

I see the issue with the IMAGE data type in the log. The model to be imported does have domains and entities using this data type. The domain actually did get imported, but it shows as "Unknown" logical type, even though there is an Image type available in the Data Modeler type list. None of the entities using IMAGE got imported.
Please let me know if you can provide a fix or workaround for this (other than changing the format in Designer).
Thank you,
Beatriz.

Hello Beatriz,
definitely this is a bug. The problem with entities is not IMAGE data type it's supported there (it's overlooked for domains). The problem is volume information - Initial, Maximum, Average, Growth rate. No workaround for that.
Domain can be changed manually if it's just one affected.

• Key data to multiple images

I feel there must be a way to put the same data to multiple/batch images. e.g. code a batch of images yellow or put the same keywords. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, jp.

There are several ways to this:
If you select several images at once in the Browser and use the Metadata Menu from the Aperture Applications menu "Metadata -> Label", "Metadata -> Assign Keywords", "Metadata -> Rating", ... these changes will be applied to all currently selected images at once. You don't actually have to use the menu, the corresponding keyboard shortcuts will work the same.
If you want to change some other metadata tags - title, caption for multiple images, etc, again select the images all at one and use "Metadata -> Batch Change". Select a suitable Metadata preset in the "Add Metadata from" selector and define the values you want to add to all selected image - you can choose if you want to append the new values to the old values or to replace the old values.
An elegant way to change several images at once is to edit one image and to copy these values to a set of several currently selected images. For this use the "Lift&Stamp" tool:
Select the image you want to copy the settings from and then use "Metadata -> Lift Metadata" (or use the "Lift Metadata Button" (the badge withe the up arrow)
In the Lift Metadata HUD deselect any tags and adjustments you do not want to stamp.
Select the images you want to stamp the metadata tags to and stamp using "Metadata -> Stamp Metadata" (or use the "Stamp Metadata Button" (the badge withe the down arrow)

• RAW image date not exporting

Hi there
Currently I shoot everything as JPG, but would like to start using RAW on my Canon 300D. I have done a few trials, and find one thing perplexing – if I shoot in RAW the image date shows up in Aperture. When I export and add the exported JPG to my iView catalog, no Capture Date (image date equivalent) shows up. When I do the exact same steps after shooting in JPG, the Capture Date appears without any problem.
Is there a way to have the image date added to the metadata of the exported image?
Hannes

I'm not sure about this but the problem may be that there are different "flavors" of EXIF data. I believe there's a basic set of data that all camera manufactures have agreed to and then there's custom EXIF data specific to a camera, lens, strobe, or manufacturer.
It may be that Apple has chosen to only support the generic flavor(s) of data while ignoring the custom ones. I think that's why cell phone syncing with Address Book only gets some data to the phone. Pictures, groups, and the like are probably different for every phone and Apple decided not to support it. But I don't know that with certainty.
If you want to see what data is actually in the original and the exported files download a free copy of ExifTool by Phil Harvey from http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
It's a great tool and shows me more data for my Cannon camera's images than Canon's own software does.

• How do I load a picture from the clipboard (either Windows clipboard or Labview clipboard) into image data that can then be processed in Labview?

I want to load a picture from the Windows clipboard (and if not possible, then from the Labview clipboard) into actual numerical image data so that it can be processed in lab view. When I'm at the main screen where I can add controls, I see a section of controls called "Vision" in the tool bar where all the different controls can can be added from. When I go to the control called "Image" and put that on my form, and then look at the flowchart/blockdiagram programing window to see what inputs and outputs it has, I only see one output, and no inputs. And when I right click on it, I see NO way to load an image into the Image control. PLEASE help me.
Message Edited by Ben321 on 11-09-2008 04:32 PM

Hi Ben,
National Instruments has an image processing software called Vision and although I am not completely sure, I think the controls that you found in the control pallet are used in conjunction with the software. Depending on what kind of image processing you want to conduct in LabVIEW, you might want to consider purchasing that product.
If cost is an issue, there are functions in LabVIEW which allows you to take in image files and process them. However, please keep in mind that the capabilities are limited.
Images should be loaded onto LabVIEW not via the clipboard but through loading it from folders or directories. (There might be a way to and so if you find a way please let me know! I would like to know myself =D) If you open the function pallet by right clicking on the block diagram, in the programming folder you should find a directory called "Graphic and Sound". There, you'll find functions in which allows you to process images.
In the "Graphic Type" directory there should be a function called Read JPEG file.vi. There are also others which allows you to read png and bmp files. Please note that there are functions which write as well. Set a file path on the block diagram and inside the "Grahic and Sound" there is a "Picture Function" directory and inside there, there should be a function called "Draw Flattened Pixmap.vi" That changes the image into a format where you can process on LabVIEW. Inside the "Picture Function" directory there are several functions which allows you to process the specified image. Play around with it and see how it goes. And don't forget to Write the file in the end to save any changes.
I hope this helps

• How to add a link to a report inline image?

Hi,
I use apex 3.1.2
I have made a report where I show a small inline image. The image is stored as a blob in the db (IMAGE:XXSMALLPICS:PICTURE:ID::::::inline:Download). It works fine, but I would like to add a link to the small image so that if I click on the image a larger image shows in a popp up window.
How can that be done?
I don't succeed to add any type of link to the image.
/Erik

Hi Sam,
Firstly, you have an error in your SQL statement:
SELECT FILE_NAME,
'<img onclick="javascript:showImage(this);" >src="#OWNER#.DISPLAY_IMAGE?inID=' || NVL(IMAGE_ID, 0) || '" >height="50" width="50" />' IMAGE
FROM A_IMAGES
ORDER BY FILE_NAMEYou have an extra > - it should be:
SELECT FILE_NAME,
'<img onclick="javascript:showImage(this);" src="#OWNER#.DISPLAY_IMAGE?inID=' || NVL(IMAGE_ID, 0) || '" height="50" width="50" />' IMAGE
FROM A_IMAGES
ORDER BY FILE_NAMEFor the Region Header - I just click on the report in the page definition and scrolled down to the setting called "Region Header". Then I pasted in:
<div id="imagediv" style="display:none; position:absolute; top:0px; left:0px; height:0px; width:0px; margin:0px; padding:0px; border:0px; background-color:whitesmoke;" align="center" onclick="javascript:closediv();"><table style="border:0px; padding:0px; margin:0px; width:100%; height:100%;" cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0><tr><td style="vertical-align:middle; text-align:center">
<img id="largeimage" src="" style="border:3px double darkblue;">
</td></tr></table>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var iDIV = document.getElementById("imagediv");
var iIMG = document.getElementById("largeimage");
function showImage(i)
iIMG.src = i.src;
iDIV.style.width = document.body.clientWidth;
iDIV.style.height = document.body.clientHeight;
iDIV.style.display = "block";
function closediv()
iDIV.style.width = 0;
iDIV.style.height = 0;
iDIV.style.display = "none";
iIMG.src = "";
</script>If you go back to my page, you will see that I have added two screenshots (Page41ReportSource.gif and Page41RegionHeader.gif) that show you what I have done on my report.

• Can't add drivers to Server 2012 R2 boot image in WDS

Hi all.
I want to use my "old" Windows Server 2012 (not R2), WDS to deploy new R2 servers but i can't add driver package to the R2 boot image, it comes out with error code: 0xc0000135 no matter what drivers i use.
Without network drivers i can't boot the image on my physical servers, i've tried on a virtual machine where it works just fine.
I can't use the old boot image to install R2, then it comes with error: "Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass [offlineServicing]." when it tries to install it on both virtual and physical servers.
My initial thought is that the WDS server has to be on a R2 server but i can't find anything that proofs that.
Can someone confirm that non R2 WDS is not supported to R2 or does anyone have an idea to a solution?
Thank you in advance.

Okay maybe not a solution but i installed a new WDS server on R2 and then there was no problem adding driver package to to boot image.
So i was able to confirm my theory that it's not supported to deploy R2 from a non-R2 WDS server. If anyone can make it work please let me know but until then i think this is the only way.
If I understand your description of the issue, the problem is that you are trying to update a WinPE 5.0 WIM with a version of the ADK that services WinPE 4.0 images. Installing the new Windows Server 2012 R2 server caused SCCM to use the version of the
ADK that services WinPE 5.0 images. You should be able to deploy them fine from the other server, but you can only service them from the new one. You will not be able to service the older WinPE 4.0 images from the new server either.
