Add multichannel audio ALAC files to iTunes

Can anyone tell me if there's anyway of adding multichannel ALAC files to iTunes ?

We the People, that spend our hard earned dollars in the iTunes store, request soulfully, expectantly and respectfully, that Apple would begin converting all iTunes store music to Apple Lossless Encoding (ALAC) 96kHz/24bit or higher format.  Yes, the quality difference CAN be heard.  We, the People, would like all previous purchases to be made available for download in this better quality audio format.  This will save more of us from jumping ship and going to vendors such as hdtracks.com to spend our money.  Apple's prompt attention and expedition of this is warranted.  Thank you kindly.

  • Can't add most of my files to iTunes

Hi gang. I'm looking for some help.
I got a new PC recently, and installed the current release of iTunes with no issues. I am trying to add my music and podcast files to the iTunes Library. I have over 20,000 files (~17,000 songs + ~3,000 podcasts and a few videos). All are stored in the same directory, on an external drive (a Drobo).
When I go to "File -> Add folder to Library" and select the topmost directory, it only adds ~6500 of the files. I've rerun many times and gotten the same result. I've tried clicking and dragging the file icon into iTunes, and gotten the same result. I've noticed that most of the files are by artists early in the alphabet... it's as if iTunes starts importing Abba, Adam Ant, etc, but then peters out by the time it gets to Little Feat. Zappa doesn't stand a chance!
BTW, if I try to add one of the missing files manually (by selecting the folder with the band's name on it), it adds with no problem. It's just that it's not happening automatically when I add the highest-level, "umbrella" directory. It used to work fine with my old PC. I have so many files, that I can't possibly add them all manually. I've tried everything I can think of! Any help is appreciated...

There have many reports here of large adds not running to completion. Sometimes it will die on a certain troublesome file, and sometimes there is no obvious reason.
Since you have verified that the individual files seem to be fine, the workaround is to add the folders in smaller batches.

  • Is there a good way to add a large music file to itunes match without itunes crashing?

I have several large music files that are DJ sessions and anywhere from 1-3 hours long. I deleted them from itunes while matching because they were causing match to crash at step 3 every time. I would like to add these files into match now but every time I try, it crashes again. Anyone know of a work around for this?

The iTunes Match service is designed to exclude such Songs.  Perhaps handling them as Podcasts would help you.

  • PC user w/ Audio wma files and Itunes MPEG-4 audio files in separate folder

My husband has an mp3 player that uses the wma format, so we have a lot of songs in the audio folder. Initially I simply transferred all of them into the itunes folder and they were converted to mpeg-4 format. Now as more files have been added to the audio folder, I would like to convert them to mpeg-4 and get them into my itunes folder. I can't seem to figure out how to find the ones that aren't already in the folder and just transfer those. It wants to transfer all of them and then I have duplicate songs. Anyone have any ideas?

Have had no trouble in the past but now it's everything I download.
So all these things used to play in Quicktime and iTunes and won't? Downloaded now and in the past?  Even previous mp4s? This is what I gather from your last statement.
Have you changed the file extensions to match those for mp4s iTunes will accept?
Have you updated any media related software on your computer since everything last worked?

  • How can I add an audio media file to my Pages document

I have created a Pages document on my iPad.  I can add photos but not audio (there is only a Photos option)  So I emailed the document to my desktop and went onto iCloud via Safari.  Now i don't see the Media icon (I am in Pages beta if this is relevant).  Any suggestions?

I knew about the comment possibility, but as you have said...users would need instruction.  This is intended for a controlled environment where I know that everyone will have a device with a microphone.  However, the users of the form would have very little experience as this is meant for patients.

  • ALAC files not importing into iTunes

I'm using the latest 12.0.1.26 iTunes on a Dell Studio XPS (with an intel i7 processor and 2 TB SSD drive), which I use to run three Apple Airports dotted around the house and am having a problem playing ALAC files which I've converted from FLAC files bought from HighResAudio.com.
They play ok with VLC but when I try to add the folder or file into iTunes nothing seems to happen, or if I select 'play with' and pick iTunes, then iTunes starts up ok but the file doesn't appear or play at all.
I've just started re-recording my cd collection in ALAC format which all play fine when recorded directly into iTunes.
The problem is with these high resolution files (Mike Oldfield's new Man On The Rocks album) which I bought to try the supposedly 'better than cd/studio' quality sound which were only available as FLAC files. I then converted these with 'free studio audio converter' and as I said, the converted files play fine on VLC.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

    Thanks ad2345.
I tried a different converter and also changed the playback preferences -which was down at 44.1kHz- up to 96kHz as I know the hi res files are supposed to be up at this level.
Not sure if it was one or the other of your suggestions, or both, but it has worked, so many thanks for your quick and effective help!

    Steve,
Glad it helped.  Enjoy the music!

  • Alac file size changes when added to iTunes

    Hello,
I've converted some FLAC files to ALAC using dbPowerAmp.  The file bit rate remains unchanged.  However, when I add the ALAC files to iTunes, the bit rate shown in iTunes is reduced.
Example - Alice Cooper, Hello Hurray
FLAC Bit Rate - 4608 kbs
Converted ALAC Bit Rate - 4608 kbs
iTunes ALAC Bit Rate - 3012 kbs
    Any ideas what's going on?
    I'm using iTunes 10.7.0.21
    Thanks.

    Nothing has been changed.
Sounds like iTunes & dbPowerAmp figure the bit rate differently.
dbPowerAmp uses the uncompressed file sizeand iTunes figures the compressed file size.
Since the file is smaller, the bit rate will have to be lower.

  • ITunes Match Error ALAC Files

So I've got this really weird issue that I can't quite get my mind around. I've started adding Apple Lossless files to my iTunes library. Honestly, I'm super stoked to be upgrading to lossless as I didn't even know that I could have ALAC files in iTunes. So I'll rip the CD, add it to my library, let it upload and two or three of the files will have errors. After that, when I try to submit them iTunes Match just ignores them. So they sit there, looking like they're waiting to be uploaded and it never happens.
So right now I've got about 6 records that are only partially uploaded because of this weird error.
Using 10.8.2 and the latest update of iTunes.

    Hi,

  • How do I add media files to iTunes when my iTunes library file is out of date?

My 2007 iMac died. My last backup was done 7 months ago. My iTunes media folder resides on an external drive, so all of my iTunes media files are unaffected, but when I set up my new 2012 Mac Mini using my last backup, my iTunes library file will be 7 months behind. In the past 7 months, I have added around 2,000 new media files to iTunes. So my question is this: what is the best way to add those 2,000 files into iTunes? Is it as simple as drag-and-drop? They are already in the iTunes media folder, I just need to tell iTunes they exist. Thanks for any help!

File > Add to library and select /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder.
Anything in that folder not showing in iTunes library will get added.

  • How do I add Audible audio books to my library

I am about to throw this Mac computer into the trash.  Can someone please tell me how to get this mac to add Audible audio books to the Itunes library, so that I can sync (another matter) to iphone and ipad?

I've found that iTunes no longer allows Audible files to be added to the iTunes library.
I'm on a Mac (OSx 10.9), and am running the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5).
First of all, there's no longer a "Books" category in iTunes, but there is an "Audiobooks" category.  My preferences are set to show that category.
When I first tried to add my Audible books to iTunes, I had no audiobooks in my library.  What showed when I was in the Audiobooks view was a sort of welcome, you have no audiobooks, page with a button to download audiobooks from the App Store.
I tried importing my Audible books via drap and drop and File-> Add to Library.  I was able to select the files, but the Audiobooks welcome view didn't change.
I thought perhaps iTunes had a bug (or design) to only show the list of files when there was an App Store-purchased audiobook.  So I bought an audiobook from iTunes.  I was now able to see this audiobook, and proceeded to add my Audible file to the iTunes library as well.  The Audible books again did not show up in my audiobook library.
Similarly, I've tried opening the .aa Audible file directly from Finder.  It launches iTunes, but nothing happens.
There was another post about iTunes Match causing an issue, but I'm not subscribed to iTunes Match. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3875987
So I'm out of ideas, and pretty fed up.  Does anyone have a new way to fix this?  Jimzgoldfinch method is not working.  Books are .aa files

I have Prem. Elements 12.  I am trying to add audio media.  I know where the audio files are located (using GET INFO while in iTunes), and when I try to add certain audio files, some are accepted and some are not.  In one case, when I opened a particular folder, the song was not listed, even tho' the song is there when using Windows Explorer.  This happens with mp3 and mp4 and just wav files.  Some audio are accepted, most are not.  I get that codec is not installed error message, too.

  • I tried to add sf2 instruments.  I put them in the audio/banks file but they do not show up in the DSL instruments on Garage Band.  Why not?

How can I get sf2 intruments that I've downloaded to use in my GarageBand?  I have downloaded them and have put them both in the GarageBand instruments folder and the Audio/Banks folder of my Library, but they do not show up in GarageBand on the DSL instruments as they should.  I have some instruments in that category that I must have put in before, but can't find them in the audio/banks folder or the GarageBand instruments folder and cannot locate them with a my computer finder anywhere.  They are listed in the DSL instruments on GarageBand when I open the program.  Is there another library that this version of GarageBand can be using??  I have GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.4)d, which was updated a while back.  I had the previous version of GarageBand with a diffent system quite a bit earlier.  I've look in the "previous system" folder as well, and cannot find the instruments, or an audio/banks folder at all.

Mortimer,  iTunes does not know when you restore a file.  After you restore the file, you need to re-add the file to iTunes.
If you know exactly which files you restores, re-add them using File > Add File to LIbrary.
Otherwise, lre-add the folders.  iTunes has certain safeguards to reduce duplicates when you do this, which are not perfect but are better than nothing.  Start with a few small folders and see if you are happy with the results.

  • I can't seem to ADD or even PLAY big files in iTunes

Well this forum is my last resource, really. I've tried everything, even called Apple Technical Support twice, with no solution.
The thing is I wanted to add an audio file, mp3, to itunes library. I noticed it wouldn't be added in any way (dragging or from the menu). I couldn't find out what was the problem but then I saw that another file, same size (65 MB), hadn't been added too. All the other files, which are much smaller, work fine. So I think the problem is the size of the mp3.
Anyway, I tried everything I could think about, and also reinstalling itunes (which was suggested by the tech support). I checked the files and they're OK, they play regularly on WMP, winamp, VLC. Then i found out that don't even play on itunes. In fact, it doesn't recognize them: the SOLE rection it manifests is coming to the top when I try to open the files straight from the explorer. And that's all, no error msg, nthng, it just stays there, not even opening the player or addind to a playlist if I will.
That's basically it... i really tried to circumvent this issue on my own, i tried hard and called support. When they couldn't help i gave up. I always think I'm doing smthng stupid and that the solution is obvious, right in frint of me, but I really can't see it. If you could help me, even telling me if you are also unable to deal with "huge" files in itunes, I'd be grateful...
    Any suggestions? Thanks!
ps: i got windows XP pro SP 2, i have free disk space and my ipod is a shuffle 1 G (its not lack of space on it, i cant even manage to get to the stage of filling it)

Just out of curiosity, try playing the song in a different program . . . maybe Windows Media Player to see if it works. I wonder if it's corrupted....

  • How do I properly manage audio files with iTunes?

    Hello Dear Readers,
I am going to start using iTunes exclusively for my music collection management. Previously, I had only used iTunes for managing content for my iPhone 4. Now, I am wanting to import all of my media (music) files into iTunes for general use and playback.
For example, I have over 3,000 music files, and I would like to know the best way to get them into iTunes. From a lynda.com training video about using iTunes, I learned that there is a folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes", which is monitored by iTunes for new files to import into the iTunes library. However, I would like to know if this is the *best* way to do this. For example, can I just*move* my 3,000 music files into this 'Automatically Add' folder and then let iTunes do its thing?
Will iTunes *move*the files that it is able to manage OUT of this folder and into one of its managed folders, such that there would be no duplicate file left behind? Is it correct in saying that the files that are left in this folder that were not able to be handled by iTunes and must be handled differently before they can be imported into iTunes. Or is there just an all around different, and better, way to get these music files into iTunes? Thanks for your advice and opinions!
There is also the issue of what to do with the commercial CDs I have (less than 50).  I would like to discard these and just maintain them on digital form, e.g., my 2 TB hard drive.  However, I am getting varying opinions as to how to do this.  I need 2 things:  1) to archive the CDs for retrieval later in case I need the songs that are on them, and 2) MP3 versions of the audio CD files for use on my flash drive which plays on my car audio system.  These would also be the files that I manage in iTunes.
Some people have suggested using Exact Audio Copy to make a FLAC and a LAME MP3 copy of myCDs.  Others have suggested keeping an ISO copy of the compact discs for reference archive. Personally, I am wondering if I should just import my commercial CDs directly into iTunes, and then pay Apple $25 annually to maintain copies of these, as announced by Steve Jobs at the WWDC that this cloud functionality was forthcoming.
I am in need of some informed, educated opinions and suggestions as to how I should proceed.
Then, there is also the naming convention of the files.  When the files get ripped from CD, I can add the freedb information to them for the ID3 tagging.  However, I need to know how to specify in what system that the file names are comprised. This is what I am thinking of as my folder and file name format, at this point.
For the naming scheme of the audio files, I am proposing the following:
For most music by 1 artist on a disc, I would do as follows:
Folder Name: AlbumArtist - Album Title (year)
File Names:  Track number (from 1 on up, with NO leading zeros) Track Title
For compilations with various artists, I would use the following for the schema:
Folder Name: VariousArtists (album artist) - Album Title (year)
File Names:  Track number (1 on up) Track Title - Track Artist.
Do these seem like reasonable naming schemes that would be good for using on all audio software and equipment, such as my iPhone, my car audio flash drive player, and in iTunes?
I know that this is a lot to ask, but I am just trying to learn how to do things correctly and most efficiently so that I don't have problems down the road with my iTunes library.  I welcome input, discussion and of course, dissent!  Thanks!
