Add printer on remote computer

In my environment I need to add printers on remote computers. I can’t use active directory. My account has admin privileges, but the remote computer is setup to auto login to an account and that account is just a member of the domain users group. So far
I pieced this script together, but it needs to be run on the remote computer
Dim printer, UNCpath1, slash1, slash2
slash2 = "\\"
slash1 = "\"
printername = InputBox("What printer do you want to be the default? ", "Create Default Printer")
UNCpath1 = InputBox("What server is this printer on? ", "Server")
Set printer = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
printer.AddWindowsPrinterConnection slash2 & UNCpath1 & slash1 & printername
printer.SetDefaultPrinter slash2 & UNCpath1 & slash1 & printername
WScript.Quit
I would like a script that has input boxes to ask what printer you want to setup, and which print server the printer is on.
Please phrase your answer with the knowledge that I know next to NOTHING about scripting. The script above was pieced together after a lot of searching.

I can't do anything with Group Policy at my new job.
Where I used to work, I controlled group policy, and then adding it through group policy was a possibility, but now I must work under conditions in which group policy is off limits to me.
I said that doing this using psexec is cumbersome, so I wanted to see if this is possible through scripting. And the script I pieced together that I show in my first post works fine, as long
as I remote into the computer using a program called Proxy Pro Master.
I want to use something else, because it is hard to coordinate a time to proxy into a user's computer. And the computers I am working with are so locked down, you can't change the default printer
for instance. However, with my script, it changes the default.
I know very little about scripting, and thought that if my pieced together script could change the default printer, maybe a script could add printers remotely. So a user would request a printer,
and on my pc, I could run the script to add whatever printer they want.

  • Deleting printer on remote computer (using wmic) ask me whether to delete or not

    Hi,
Using this sentence to delete printers installed on remote computer asks to say yes or not to delete the printer:
WMIC /INTERACTIVE:ON PRINTER where PortName="192.168.5.240" DELETE
Do you want to delete the printer "testprinter" (Y/N)?
Can anybody tell me how to avoid the question and delete the printer by default?
    Thanks in advance.

    Simply omit /interactive:on...

  • Print on remote computer from WinPe?

I'm using  MDT to apply images to dozens of computers on a daily basis and I would like to be able to print an adhesive label that I can apply to each computer box after imaging. All the scripts I've tried error out with "permission denied",
"access denied", "not supported in WinPe" or worse when I try to print from the imaged computer to a remote computer on the network. In other words, I want the label to be printed as soon as the imaging is successful as part of our QC process.
    Is this even possible?

Set up a printer that is not protected by the network.  Just make it a simple TCP/IP printer that has a driver imaged with the system.
Your question is not a scripting question or issue.  YOu will have to post in the Windows support forums to get further help.

  • Having trouble printing from remote computer

I have an Epson CX4200 connected directly to an iMac G5 running OS 10.5. I access the internet wireless through a router. When I was running 10.4 on the iMac G5, I was able to print via printer sharing from my iMac running 10.3.9 without a hitch. After installing the new OS onto the G5, I choose "print" from the file menu on the older iMac, select the Epson CX4200 from the shared printer drop down menu (it's the only one in the house) and click "print". It looks like the data is spooling to the printer and the printer icon appears in the dock. Then nothing. I go to the iMac G5 and open the printer window. NOthing has been sent. I can't understand why these two operating systems cannot communicate with each other. I am not able to install 10.4 onto the older iMac. When I insert the disc, it just pops it back out. Don't know why that is but I thought if I installed the 10.4 onto the older iMac, that would solve the printer sharing issues. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

Okay, so I tried your suggestion and no luck! I also tried every other scenario that the computers allow and nothing. When I went to add a printer, the rendezvous popped up and my printer that is connected to the iMac G5 showed up. If I just choose that and don't select a printer model, just generic, nothing happens when I try to send the job. A printer dialogue box shows something for a split second then returns to "no job printing". However when I choose the printer in rendezvous and then Epson down below, my printer doesn't appear in the list of models. So I chose one that was close and I ended up seeing something happeneing in the printer dialogue box. It says it's connecting to the ip address of my iMac at port 631, but it just spools endlessly and never sends the job.
Do you have any other suggestions or does anyone? There has got to be a way. I can't imagine that Apple would deny people access to a shared printer on their own home network just because the two computers were using different versions of OS X.

  • How do I add a printer to my computer

I'm trying to add a Canon Pixma printer to my computer. My operating system is Linux, and Firefox is my browser. It's a Compaq computer with window`Vista

Doesn't that printer have print driver installation instructions packaged with it? If not, have you looked at the Canon website for those instructions?
Basically, the correct printer drivers need to be installed first, then when you go to print something from within Firefox the first time you need to select the new printer from within the "native print dialog box"; what you see when you do {Ctrl + P} in Firefox.

  • Can I print my collages or access them as a pdf from a remote computer?

(I'm a teacher and I want maximise its usefulness.)

The best way to send to a remote computer to have it printed out, is open the collage then in the upper right click on the white square with the arrow icon. Select "Share via" as you will see, there is multiple options to choose depending on what you have installed on your device. It will send the file as a .jpg. I tested using via email, dropbox, bluetooth as all methods worked great. Then you can open .jpg file and print it as you wish. I did not see .pdf as an option, but if you have Adobe Acrobat you can open the file in Acrobat, then save as pdf file.
Hope this helps answer your question
    Thanks

  • Getting spool error when trying to use a network printer from a remote computer.

I have 2 HP deskjet printers attached to my computer.  One is a D4260 and the 2nd is an F4280 all in one.  I would like both of these printers to be available on our wireless network so that my girlfriend can use the printers from her laptop. The D4260 is working just fine but when I try to print to the all in one it looks as if it printed on her computer but I get a spooling error on mine and no printing.

Go to hp.com.au, top right corner select support & drivers
select software & driver download type in your printer name HP Deskjet F4280
then select your operating system-step 1
on step 2 select utility diagnostic tools, select HP Print Diagnostic Utility
run the software, select your printer, then diagnose...then select fix all
this software automatically detects spooler errors & fix them
just follow the instructions from the HP Print Diagnostic Utility
    good luck.

  • Printing to remote desktop client printer

We have a remote office connecting to a terminal server at head office. The remote office has a network printer. How can we configure the terminal connection to enable printing to the remote network printer at the remote office?

    There are two ways
    1. Site to site vpn (IPSEC) between two sites. And add the printer directly to Terminal Server
    or,
    2. Enable RDP printer on it.  (See below)

  • Access MS Access database on remote computer (shared folder)

    Hello,
    I need some help.
I've made a program and it works fine on my computer, but multiple users will be using program simultaneously, each one on his own computer conected over local network to mine computer (database is on my computer in shared folder).
When I try to access data on database (path is path of shared folder) i'm getting error 5013 (no database). The problem occurs only when I'm trying to read something from MS access database but not if I try to read data from .txt file, then it works fine...
    I'm using ADO Tools
Can someone help me, I would be very greatful?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks to you Dennis I've managed to figure it out.
I'll explain this for future generations
    1) I've created DSN. To do that open ODBC Data Source Administrator:
    - for 64 bit app C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe
    - for 32 bit app C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
In System DSN tab click Add.. then choose Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) (If you do not have this on list download that drivers from web) --> FINISH.
Enter Data Source Name (mine is Test2) --> Select... --> now because the MS Access database is on shared folder on remote PC go to Network... --> Browse... and select that shared folder --> Finish. Now you'll see all .mdb files on that folder and you choose your database --> OK --> OK --> OK
    2) Now in block diagram you connect string "DSN=your_dsn_name;" (mine was Test2) to ConnectionString connector of ADO Connection Open.vi
    It worked for me.

  • Canon LBP6000 print driver - no printer appears in the 'add printer' section'  I have installed Mac CAPT Ve r340 and nothing shows.r

I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000.  Print jobs remained held in the queue.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement.  The printer works fine with my Windows laptop.
I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed.  I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options.  And no idea how to get printer options.  So very open to advice.
    Thanks
    T.

The ability to see the LBP6000 in the Add Printer view is not reliant on the printer driver but the USB cable. If you have the printers USB cable connected directly to the Mac, as opposed to having it connected to the Windows computer you mention or to some sort of USB hub, then it should appear in the Add Printer > Default view. If it does not show, then try another USB cable. You can also open System Information on the Mac and select the USB section in the left column. Then in the top right pane you will see all the USB busses on the Mac and the LBP should be seen under one of the busses if the USB cable is okay.
With regards to the action to remove all printers, I would bet that you performed a reset of the printing system.

  • P1005 Windows 7 can't print from remote PC

    Very strange issue.
Windows 7 computers. All HP compaqs. Printer P1005. Driver just downloaded (version 20090918).
No problem to print from the host PC
From the remote PC. Windows 7 Pro with 3 local account.  After lot of issues I'm now able to print on using the administrator account. However the 2 others accounts can't print.  Everytime the print dialog should come on the screen Windows 7 report an error and application crash (even printing a test page).   In an application if I default another shared printer (deskjet 5940), the print dialog come on, then I select the P1005 in the dropdown and got the error again.  Deskjet have no issue on all accounts.
To install on the admin account I did the following:
       - deinstall the P1005
       - decompressed the install app on the HD
      - Add a printer, select a local printer on USB, and manual selection of the drivers. printed without problem (with printer connected locally)
     - added a printer, selected the network one, added it and printed without issue (yes I switch back the printer to be on the shared one)
I tried the same tricks on the others accounts but still crashing when printing
I tried to upgrade the 2 others account to Admin role, no luck same issue.
I have exhausted. sounds this printer is not very compatible with Windows 7.
PS. my windows xP remote PC is able to print through the Windows 7 host without issue.

If it is not wireless it is USB connected.  So you need to choose USB connected and let the program do it's thing.   Are you trying to share the printer from the desktop to the laptop?  If yes, just go to Add Printer and follow the instruction.  Make sure File and Print Sharing is enabled on the desktop.
