Add/update asset tag into T430 bios
We received 5 T430 laptops without the Asset tag added into the BIOS.
Previously (in T410 and T420 we could run a tool to add this information, I searched the website and couldn't found such a tool for the T430.
On this board I found one solution but ether I do something wrong or the solution doesn't work:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Adding-Asset-Tag-information-into-the-Bios-...
And then I am pointing to the solution added by Langeballe:
"Get be bios upgrade package from their website and then run the following to update the asset tag:
(This is for Windows 7 64 Bit)
winflash64.exe -patch -dpc "My Asset Tag"
Reboot and it should be set"
I followed the steps and it does flash the bios, it does reboot but no info is written to ths bios.
Excuse my poor English it is not my native spoken language.
Kind regards,
Henk

Unable to set asset tag number in bios 1.17 on Thinkpad Yoga S1
Hi I have a bunch of Thinkpad Yoga Machine Type 20CD002UUS and I've been trying to set the asset tag in the bios. According to support I can use this tool: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
It was working great on a bunch of machines and then just stopped. I realized the only difference was the bios version.
On the ones that WORKED the bios is 1.16, the ones that DO NOT WORK are bios 1.17.
Has anyone has this issue? It doesn't say anything about the BIOS version being an issue, but it's realy annoying.
Anyone have any pointers?
Machines are running Windows 8.1 64 bit
Solved!
Go to Solution.Good day and welcome to the community.
Sorry you're having difficulties.
Looking at the v1.17 BIOS readme: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/gquj12ww.txt
I see one item that may be related, stressing "may": "(New) Improved the UEFI BIOS security feature."
Wish I could offer more.
Regards.

I know I can add an Asset Tag to the BIOS. I need to query that Asset Tag. I added this to a report query...v_GS_SYSTEM_ENCLOSURE.SMBIOSAssetTag0
(I think it's the right choice).
select v_R_System.Name0, v_GS_PC_BIOS.Manufacturer0, v_GS_PC_BIOS.SerialNumber0,v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Model0,v_GS_SYSTEM_ENCLOSURE.SMBIOSAssetTag0
FROM v_R_System JOIN v_GS_PC_BIOS on v_R_System.ResourceID = v_GS_PC_BIOS.ResourceID JOIN v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on v_R_System.ResourceID = v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
But I get a 'not bound' error'. Not sure how to add this to the bottom 'FROM' part?Hi,
You are missing a Join for the V_gs_System_enclosure, something like this will work.
select
v_R_System.Name0,
v_GS_PC_BIOS.Manufacturer0,
v_GS_PC_BIOS.SerialNumber0,v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Model0,v_GS_SYSTEM_ENCLOSURE.SMBIOSAssetTag0
FROM
v_R_System JOIN v_GS_PC_BIOS
on v_R_System.ResourceID
= v_GS_PC_BIOS.ResourceID
JOIN v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM
on v_R_System.ResourceID
= v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
jOIN v_GS_SYSTEM_ENCLOSURE
on v_R_System.ResourceID
= v_GS_SYSTEM_ENCLOSURE.ResourceID

Finder get stuck when i add new tag into File
I habe this following problem:
When i add a new tag into a File, then Finder get stuck (Application not responding). After a certain amount of time, it works normally again. But in some cases, i have to wait 10 or 15 minutes. It happens only when i add new tag. With the old tags, it doesn't happen.
Anyone else have the same problem, or it's just me.

This process end at 00:28:32, and then Finder works again

Adding Asset Tag information into the Bios from Windows 7
Hi
I am wondering whether there is a utility that will enable me to add Asset tag information into the bios from within windows 7 . We have various models mainly T410 / T420 ' but alos some X201 / X220's
Firstly is there such a utility ?
secondly is there one for all ?
If not is anyone able to suggest how this maybe done . Manual entry at the bios level on thousands of Laptops is just not possible. The end result is for the asset information to be picked up in SCCM and tracked
Thanks
Andy

On-board sound card failing. Will BIOS let me add a sound card into the PCIE slot?
On-board sound card failing, consistently locking everything, (yes, I updated all drivers, codecs) so want to put in new sound card. Will the BIOS let me add a sound card into the PCIE slot? (of course after disabling the ReakTek onboard sound) I don't see an option to choose PCI or PCI-E in the setup screen (F10 at boot) for audio.

T430 BIOS update failing with -s switch
I am attempting to update the BIOS on my T430 using the -s switch. I have downloaded version 1.20 from the Lenovo site. This version says that it includes a fix for the problem with -s. However, I am still unable to flash using -s. I get an error: secure flash authentication failed
Any ideas?Hey there bdudle1,
Here is a forum post from a few days ago with the same issue. You can look and see if this information helps you out any.
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430-Bios-update/m-p/839537#M65645 -
Good Day,Can someone offer insight on how to populate the BIOS Asset tag got the Lenovo E550? The procedure we used for the E540 doesnt work for the E550.With the 440/540 we were able to use the WINAIAPackage.exe file to edit the Asset tag. This file doesnt run on the E450/550. Thanks for any help.
Have you tried this?
windows -> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-75237
DOS -> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013515
I know it doesn't specifically say X1, but I think it should work. I haven't personally tried it on X1.
If it doesn't work, let me know and I will chase this down for you. -
I am having a problem with the T430 bios update utility. But, I only have a problem when running the update using the -s option. If I run the update without being silent then the bios gets updated. If I use the -s option then I get this error message:
Secure flash authentication failed
press esc to continue
Anybody have any clues?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Thank you for the response. Not to sound ungrateful on the response but referenced was using -s in first post. With previous models (T60, T61, .....) when using bios update everything happened in Windows. Now with T430 it looks like (guessing because of new UEFI) it does 2 parts: part of the update within windows and after reboot there is a message comes up:
Flashing embedded controller
Please wait
This stays up for a few seconds and then restarts and then the error comes up. The log file looks like only shows what happened in windows which went fine looks like from log:
OS = Windows 7 32bit
Driver Loading....Done
System BIOS Version -> G1ET42WW
Applying BIOS Version -> G1ET44WW
System EC Version -> G1HT29WW
Applying EC Version -> G1HT29WW
AC adapter/Battery check....OK.
EC Flashing....EC Flash completed.
BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.
Again, if I run the update without silent parameter it works. Only if supply the -s parameter it has this "Secure flash authentication failed". I did notice this SCT utility comes up during the manual update that doesn't come up during the silent update. Here is a log of a manual update:
OS = Windows 7 32bit
Driver Loading....Done
System BIOS Version -> G1ET42WW
Applying BIOS Version -> G1ET44WW
System EC Version -> G1HT29WW
Applying EC Version -> G1HT29WW
AC adapter/Battery check....OK.
BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.
Did notice something different about T430 bios update that didn't happen with T410 or older bios updates. If you use the silent update the winuptp spawns a winflash32s.exe. If you use the manual update then winuptp spawns a winflash32.exe. Wondering if the winflash32s.exe has a problem possibly? -
Is there any way to modify the value of the Asset Tag field for a device? We are running ZAM 7.00.0049 SP1 IR13.
I always assumed this is non-editable because it is the Asset Tag value
read from the PC's BIOS - not the Asset (Tag) number that you might stick
onto the machine case.
These may be the same thing - if you or your hardware supplier poke this
value into the BIOS on all new machines (e.g. if used to automate
workstation naming in the ZDM imaging build process). Many vendors just
use the Serial Number field by default, leaving the Asset Tag field blank
unless you ask them to use it.
Even if you circumvented the ZAM tools and edited this directly in the ZAM
database, I'd expect it to be replaced the next time that machine runs a
scan - with whatever is found in the BIOS
(You'd need to test this to know for sure - personally I wouldn't mess
with it, I'd add a UDF for my company's Asset Tag or get it inserted into
the BIOS field) -
Importing Photoshop Elements tags into iPhoto 09 keywords
I am looking for a method of importing my Photoshop Elements photos & videos with their tags into iPhoto as keywords. I've seen several posts on this topic but none quite work for my situation. I'm hoping someone has a good recommendation. I have the following...
* iPhoto 09
* PSE 5.0
* 10K+ photos with an average of 2-3 tags each
* want to import tags for video clips as well as for photos
Here's what I've tried...
* iPhoto did actually import a random few pictures with the tags (maybe 12 out of 10K)
* PSE DB Tool to write the tag data to the files. This requires PSE 6.0 or greater (i have 5.0). http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/
* PSE native tag writing. Doesn't write tags on video clips and is littered with bugs anyway.
* Other tag importing tool at http://www.cv2h.com/PSA2iPhoto/Welcome.html. Does not work with iPhoto 09.
Any ideas?

KyleThe IPTC metadata is for image files only. Video files can't have that metadata written to the file. Application can assign metadata to video files but they are kept in databases associated with the application and point to the video file.
Some DAM (digital asset management) applications can add keywords, etc. to video files but the data stays with the application. -
Way to Add/Update XML through browser?
First off, what a fantastic framework you folks have created!
I'm deploying HTML site locally on the intranet and I'd like
to be able to add, delete or modify items in the XML file through
some sort of HTML form. All the examples I've seen on the internet
require asp or php, is there a way to do this without asp or php?
If not, can anyone recommend a "user friendly" way to allow people
do this? Thanks!quote:

advice as to what would be the easiest way to go, taking the
following into consideration:
1. I consider myself an artist and designer, not a
programmer, though I hand-code my HTML, have a decent grasp of CSS,
and have learned enough about Spry and XML to take some of the Spry
demos and customize them to work on a couple of web sites. But I
would love to have something that I could use to fill out an XML
document without having to individually type each entry including
the opening and closing tags, when I have sets of items where there
are anywhere from 20 to 300 entries.
2. Our site is hosted on a shared Linux server.
3. I am very comfortable with Dreamweaver, which I see has
some tools for marking up pages in PHP and ColdFusion.
So what would be easiest to learn to do, learn PHP, go with
the ColdFusion example cited above, or something else?
Thanks,
Helen
dear Helen,
i see your server was Linux platform on Shared Hosting, the
best way to do know is to learn PHP since most (if not all) Linux
server support this programming language, and for ColdFusion you
need special server for that
you can read some basic of PHP and its backend Database
(especially MySQL) here:
http://www.w3schools.com/php/
mostly PHP are more easier than ColdFusion, since ColdFusion
has it own markup (CFML)
the concept was you input data to database and generate
dynamic XML for that (like what V1 Fusion said) and load it using
Spry, but if you want add/update/delete, you may have to do some
trick with spry :D

Tecra All Models - How to set Asset Tag
Hello,
For the past year we have used a tool to set the asset tag on toshiba notebooks. It runs from an external floppy drive, but the disk is overwritten en we do not have any copies of this tool.
I am pretty sure one of my colleagues downloaded this tool from the toshiba site but we are unable to find it anywhere. Can someone provide a download link or an alternative tool wich is able to set and display a notebook's asset tag.
The commands we used in this tool are
assettag /da
assettag /sa
Hope you can help
Kind Regards,
Sander74
_**UPDATE** The filename of this tool is assettag.exe**_
Message was edited by: Sander74Thanks for your answers.
We tried to undelete the content of the overwritten floppy but we were not able to restore all data. We did manage to restore some text files, htm file and a diz file. I'll post the content below.
As you can see there a comments that suggest that this is indeed a toshiba tool. Perhaps someone reading this has better searching skills then i do.

This program is a command line, non-interactive program, suitable for use in batch files and other automated environments. It is a real mode DOS program, and can not be run in pure 32 bit environments such as Windows NT.
usage: ASSETTAG <switch> [string]
Switch
Usage
/DA
Display asset tag string
/DM
Display system manufacturer string
/DP
Display model string
/DC
Display chassis serial number string
/DS
Display system serial number string
/SA <string>
Write asset tag string
/F <filename>
Write asset tag string based on contents of specified serial number - asset tag mapping file (see format below).
The Asset Tag has a maximum length of 31 bytes.
Examples:
ASSETTAG /SA 12345
ASSETTAG /SA "123 456" (quotes to embed spaces.)
ASSETTAG /F ATLIST.DAT
The /F switch specifies that the asset tag to be written to the BIOS should be obtained from a file, the name of which is given as a parameter following the /F switch. This file contains a list of serial numbers and asset tags in the format:
Serial number white space Asset tag
Each line should contain a system serial number, with no leading white space. Following the serial number, one or more white space characters (space or tab) delimit the serial number from the start of the asset tag. The first following non-white space character is taken to be the start of the asset tag, which will continue until the end of the line. Thus, asset tags may not begin with white space, but can contain almost any character thereafter.
For example:
12345678 FA99485
TE992837 ACCT992
30899283 Loaner Unit
If the lines above were placed in a file and used by the assettag program, then a PC with the serial number of 12345678 would be set with the tag FA99485. A PC with the serial number 30899283 would be set with the asset tag value of Loaner Unit.
Kind Regards,

I am having trouble with iDVD. I work with Final Cut Express HD 3.5 to edit the video, then export the video to a .dv file. I import the .dv file to iMovie HD (6.0.03) add chapter markers there, then send the project to iDVD. When I am finished making menus and adding audio, I quit it, but if I open it again iDVD asks me if I want to update the assets. When I click update assets, I ruins all of my chapter markers and all the scene selections point to one marker. If I don't click update assets, iDVD will ask me to update assets when I burn it. HELP!!! I have searched forums and haven't found anything. The only way the I've restored my markers is by 1) Starting the iDVD project over again or 2) Deleting the iDVD .plist file (which really isn't a solution, because once I open the project again, it asks me again if I want to update assets which…………and the process repeats itself again).
Interesting. I'd try giving the iMovie version a different file name than your FCE version and then import into iDVD rather than pushing it over using the Share command. I don't know the optimum export format for FCE, but you might search over there to make sure .dv is the best.

I am trying to find a way to remove/change the asset tag information on a range of Lenovo's.
In my research so far, I have found
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-75237
A lot of forums say this works in Windows and in Dos. Does anyone have a how to on using this program? I have tried in both Windows and Dos and neither one can I make it work.
Has anyone used this and know it works for what I want? Or does anyone know of a different way to edit the Asset Tag field in the BIOS?
Thanks,
-ShaneI have seen prompt whether such information is to be updated in doing BIOS updates. Which have been to date via the Windows package. HOWEVER, I would tread VERY cautiously in doing so. Its not for the faint of heart. If a MD is swapped the tech usually applies the serial # too it and not reason to effect any changes since it tied to the warranty.
Have you tried the US support line. If you get through to the American support team you will likely get the info you need. Otherwise try again and again.
