AddCredential ... not sure I'm following exactly.

Hi guys,
Finally, I've got a question ... I think it's a Duncan question, but hey, if anyone happens to know, feel free to dive in. Duncan, not a big deal ... I am mostly curious.
So, okay, I'm looking at the AddCredential web service. The Admin Guide says I can "specify a credential I want to add to a section, course, or group in my iTunes U site." But, going by the 1.0.3 request XSD, there is no way for me to specify a handle in the XML I send. I could probably put that handle in the my request URL's destination string (haven't tried it, but I'm guessing it wouldn't work). In addition, going by the response XSD, a credential can only properly live inside a permission ... and a permission can only properly live inside another entity (such as a group, course, etc.).
For chuckles, I sent an AddCredential request to you guys and got:
An Internal Server Error Has Occurred.
I swear, I checked the request to be sure it was sent correctly. But, to be honest, even as I was writing the code to create the request, I couldn't help shaking the idea that the web service is missing something vital ... a handle referencing a containing entity. The Admin Guide says that, "When you specify this operation, iTunes U adds the credential with the specified credential string to your iTunes U site" -- but that doesn't make complete sense to me ... since, so far as I can tell, a credential can only, logically, be part of a permission which is itself bound to something specific within a site (group, course, division, etc.).
Am I not grokking something? My guess is that AddCredential is a work-in-progress and that it's meant to add a credential to an already existing permission.

Just out of interest, what makes you think it won't play.   I know some won't but there appears to be no fixed rules, it's as much to do with an individual DVD than anything ... like recording protected content.

    Hello anyone with Windows 7, not sure why having followed instructions above, install of latest version of itunes won't work and can no longer open old version either.  anyone help with this?

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply.
    Yes, except n°1 - empty Temp directory, I had tried/checked all of those.
    I emptied the local temp folder tonight, but it still won't work.
    Please note: the installation doesn't give me any problem. The program was working fine, until at one point *plouf* it stopped working. I can re-install it without any problem, it just crashes when opening.
    \\edit\\ I seem to have located the problem, it's in the library files. If I re-install iTunes without my library, it works fine (though there is no music in it, yet). As soon as I import my library, or replace the My Music\iTunes folder with the old one, it stops working.

    Hi saiyed adil,
    Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
    It appears that your iPhone 5s sometimes produces low sound, but a restart corrects it.
    It can take some time to isolate and resolve intermittent issues like this one, and I'd recommend going through the steps in this guide the next time it occurs:

    I have just received an email asking me to verify if I have used my account to spend 20$ which I have not, I've followed the link and am not sure if this is a hoax ?

    What does the email say, and is it personalised (e.g. does it have your name in the email or just something like 'dear customer') ? There are regular phishing emails trying to get account and payment details.
    You can view your account's purchase history by logging into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, and you should see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it, click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases. If you are using an iOS device then you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com

    have been a Verizon customer since I got my first cell phone in my 30's - I am 50 now! A year ago, I stupidly opted to get a new phone on the EDGE program because I was trying my first Samsung device and was not sure I would like it having been an IPhone user for years.I was right! Or so I thought.... The Note 3 has been horrible. I am on my second phone(replaced it under warranty) and it still freezes, shuts off on its own, and will not come back on for long periods of time. Having had enough, I decided to EDGE Up to another device. On March 16th I tried to edge up my device online but was unable to. I immediately called to figure out what the problem was. Back in October I had a mix up in my billing where I had set up a payment. It was not done properly by customer service and as a result my line was cut off. I called the EXACT day it went off, filed a complaint about the lack of follow through for my arranged payment, and thought I had it straightened out as the payment was made that same day. That incident, although it was a Verizon error, caused my Edge Contract to be "hotlined". I spent an hour on the phone on March 16th clearing the whole mess up. When the conversation ended, the Verizon representative admitted it was a Verizon error, documented everything, and then told me she was filing a release for the hotline hold that would take a couple of days. Her name was Linda and I stupidly trusted what she said.
    The days passed as I prepared to have a major foot surgery and to get my classroom straight before I would be out recovering for 3 weeks. All the time, my Samsung continued to glitch out like it has since I got it! While sitting on the couch recovering, I decided to deal with the phone issue again and EDGE UP. I figured 10 days latter, Linda would have taken care of the issue. Unfortunately, I faced the same problem and was told it was not eligible to edge up at this time. BACK on the phone again, 2 supervisors, 3 customer service reps. ( JOE from New York being the rudest customer service rep. I have EVER worked with) and 4 frustrating HOURS latter, Jason, the equally rude supervisor from Rochester, New York, informed me that Linda gave me BAD information, there was NOTHING he could do, and I am NOT eligible until April 14th!!!!! The WORST experience I have EVER had with a company. They were completely inept, rude, and not concerned about my time, my frustration, or the problems I was facing with their product in the LEAST. I have 4 LINES on Verizon that I am going to talk to Sprint about buying out. It was a horrible experience, and I can NOT believe I have no recourse or anyone to talk to....

    Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
    I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • 1st Mac (Snow Leopard)...not sure how to back up

    Just got my first Mac (iMac) with Snow Leopard; purchased from a friend who upgraded systems. I am EXCITED and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but worried on doing something wrong; still learning the ropes if you know what I mean. I have an external (Lacie Rugged), and have tried the TM feature to backup. It backed-up without issues but this was several weeks ago. Since, Mountain Lion has released and I want it! So, I think I need to back-up the HD again because in these last several weeks I have been learning and tweaking the iMac to my personal setting and needs. It is slightly different from the original back-up. I do have all disc's in case something happens but I am trying to avoid a reformat. I will however if I absolutely have to.
    My questions are:
    1) will backing-up the system again over-write the previous backup file on the Lacie external? . . . or simply create a who;e new file in which I can then delete the first one?
    2) will I need to delete the previous back-up file first (on the Lacie) and proceed with a new (second) back-up?
    3) if the back-up is done with the Snow Leopard OS X, will it reinstall on the system should an issue occur if upgraded with the newly released Mountain Lion?
    4) will reformat be a best option to simply start fresh?
    The system runs flawless but has my friends name on the home (house icon) account. I am aware that to change this name, I think I need to create a new account. I am not sure however exactly how to do this or if I can delete his after I do; remember...1st Mac. (still learning). I did manage to change the name of the computer to mine.
    5) do files need to be transferred from his old (name; house icon) account to my newly created account in order to avoid issues if I do create this new account? if so, which specific files or all of them?
    Ideally, I would like ONLY my info on this system but it's not a major concern for me since I know who I bought it from and that all previous owner settings were wiped clean: well almost.  I have read about prepping the system for the ML upgrade and verified and repaired the disk so that is done. I just need to make sure that a back-up is done correctly and if something should go wrong...I can get all the files back up and running even with the newly upgraded Mountain Lion OS X. I hope I am making sense here.
    Anyway, I thought someone could give me a step by step break down on what exactly I need to do to get this done? ... and about the new account creation and how this exactly is done the RIGHT way.
    Thanks

    Well first you need to check to make sure your Mac meets the 10.8 specifications.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_X_Mountain_Lion
    If you don't knwo what your Mac is, use the free MacTracker and then the Apple Menu > About this Mac > More informationa nd look for a model number like MacBook Pro 3,1 and use MacTracker search feature.
    Next your going to have to make a copy of your existing data to a external storage drive, not TimeMachine which you currently have.
    Most commonly used backup methods
    When you upgrade to 10.8, your going to have a different machine anyway, so your going to be setting it up all over again. It doesn't make too much sense to restore from TM for just a few files as it takes a long time and copies over stuff from the previous owner. So it's faster and safer to just import your files manually when 10.8 is installed.
    If your Mac will run 10.8, you have to realize that likely software you currently have (and is not yours) will no longer work or be there after this proceedure, it's to make sure it's all you and not someone elses.
    First follow this method to erase and install 10.6 again, it's so you start clean and there are no conflicts/problems or issues  as your AppleID is used to download 10.8 and any app store software is copy protected.
    This way your updating 10.6.8 (Software Updated) to 10.8 on a "Fresh install" which is better than trying a upgrade.
    How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
    Make sure your iLife package is installed (look for iPhoto and if there it is) just use the bunded app installer if you have the grey/black 10.6 disks. White 10.6.3 disks don't have iLife, so you'll be buying it from the AppStore again later with your AppleID so you can get updates for it.
    Next log into App Store and download 10.8 and upgrade, you do need a fast, reliable internet connection as it's large download.

  • My Mac is freezing constantly (30 sec - 1 min) and I am not sure what to do

    Hello all,
    My MacBook Pro:
    -bought it in mid 2012
      -has the OS X Yosemite
    -4 gb memory, 2.5 GH.
    -Disk capacity: 499.25 GB
            - Used: 499.23 GB
            - Avaliable 19 MB
    I am really not sure what to do at this point. Does the freezing have something to do with my disk capacity or is it somethig completely different? Any help would be appreciated. I am college student, so a computer is a MUST for me to have, especially a proper working one.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    First, your disk is not necessarily full. You've activated FileVault or Core Storage. It's normal for a logical volume group to have only a tiny amount of available space as shown in Disk Utility. To see the real amount of available space, select the logical volume nested below it.
    When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

  • Duplicates in the results of my scan...not sure why?

    Hello,
    I'm using the following bit of code to scan all computers in a file to look for the IP Address, Subnet Mask, DNS Servers, MAC Address and Gateway.

    Are you running PowerShell 2.0, by chance?  Your code looks like it should work fine on PowerShell 3.0 or later, but there's one little "gotcha" with foreach loops in PowerShell 2.0:
    $collection = $null
    foreach ($item in $collection)
    Write-Host "Loop Body Executed"
    In PowerShell 2.0, the loop body will execute once, which people tend not to expect.  This was treated as a bug, and in PowerShell 3.0, if the collection is null, the loop doesn't do anything.  Even with that bug taken into account, I'm not sure
    how you're getting duplicate results, but you can try adding a check to make sure $Networks is not null before you enumerate over it, just to see if it helps:
    $outputresults = "C:\Apps\Powershell_Scripts\Diskspace\subnetscan.csv"
    get-content C:\Apps\Powershell_Scripts\Diskspace\serverstst.txt |
    ForEach-Object {

  • Best practise for external service when amount is not sure

    Hi friends ,
    What could be the best practise from the PM side when we want to send an equipment for external repair
    and the service cost is not sure .
    Also if we will create only service PR and not PO then there could be some legal problems while sending the equipment outside.
    What I am thinking is to create a service PR -> PO and then setting the actual cost while invoicing .
    Is it fine ?
    We would prefer if we can take some print out of the external service mentioning following data through standard SAP :
    1) Vendor Name
    2) Our Co name .
    3) Address from where the equipment is dispatched
    4) Address where equipment is to be sent .
    5) Contact No .
    6) some Dates
    Any suggestions.
    Regards

    Edited by: Amehra on Jul 7, 2011 1:53 PM

    Hi,
    it is not necessary to enter the exact amount for external service in PM order ,
    exact amount must be confirmed during service entry sheet ml81n
    or it also be adjusted during miro ( invoicing )
    and for prininting , most of the part as u said are covered in standard printing of Maintenance order, PR and PO
    otherwise there must be customized PO printing in ur organisation that can be change if ur requirements does not meet

  • Help - not sure how to proceed

    Hi all - newbie here, so please be kind.
    I have a late 2010 15" MacBook Pro that shipped with Snow Leopard. I upgraded to Lion last summer and have had nothing but problems ever since. Two nights ago, my system came to a screeching halt - everything froze up and I had to power down manually to shut it down. When I restarted, it hung at the grey screen with the Apple logo and spinning globe/wheel. I restarted from Recovery HD and ran Disk Utility to repair the disk and permissions. I was able to do that successfully, but it still wouldn't boot up. I tried every step I could find online (reset PRAM, etc.) but nothing has helped. I finally tried to reinstall Lion from Recovery HD, but even that failed - it goes through the motions but ends with the message "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." Wondering if this is because it originally shipped with Snow Leopard, not Lion?
    I have been using Time Machine, so I do have a current backup - however, I'm not sure exactly what path to take. Do I use Recovery HD to restore the entire system from Time Machine? Or should I use the original Snow Leopard install DVD (which I have) to reinstall the original OS and then restore everything from within Time Machine (assuming reinstalling the OS makes it possible to use Time Machine)? I'm concerned that doing a complete backup from Time Machine might corrupt the backup disk or something - not sure that's a realistic fear, but if that happened, I'd really be hosed.
    I'm thouroughly confused - any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks ~ Laura

    Well, I'm pleased to report that I was able to restore my system using a very recent Time Machine backup. I used the original install disk that shipped with the Mac to boot up, then followed the prompts to restore from a Time Machine backup. It took a few hours, but when it completed, everything was exactly as it was just prior to the crash (3 hours before, or so). I had no problem with losing any additional backups - my Time Machine disk still includes backups for the past 6 months or so and seems to be fully functional.
    I'll be doing some additional tests/troubleshooting to see if I can pinpoint what caused the crash, but wanted to let anyone who was having similar problems how I was able to resolve it.

  • We have AUTOTRAN = Y in our UBB and we are not sure if we need it.

    Hi All
    And thanks in advance.
    We have several questions in regard to the AUTOTRAN parameter.
    We have AUTOTRAN = Y in our UBB and we are not sure if we need it.
    1.) Would "AUTOTRAN = Y" start a transaction for SELECT only queries?
    2.) How does "AUTOTRAN = Y" affect CORBA calls where we do call BEGIN, COMMIT and ABORT explicitly?
    2a.) How does "AUTOTRAN = Y" affect RAC failover scenario in this case?
    4.) How does "AUTOTRAN = Y" affect /Q services calls (GTT)?
    * For example (TMQFORWORD -> SERVICE (TMS_ORACLE) )
    * The relevant services DO NOT call BEGIN, COMMIT or ABORT explicitly rather relay on TMQFORWORD for that.
    Many Thanks
    Tech Sgin

    Hi,
    Services marked with AUTOTRAN=Y indicate that Tuxedo should automatically start a transaction if one has not already been started. If Tuxedo started a transaction as a result of AUTOTRAN=Y, Tuxedo will commit the transaction when the service completes.
    In answer to your specific questions:
    1.) Would "AUTOTRAN = Y" start a transaction for SELECT only queries?Tuxedo doesn't know what a SELECT statement is. As mentioned above, if a transaction has not been started when a service marked AUTOTRAN=Y is called, Tuxedo will effectively perform a tpbegin() on the behalf of the caller.
    2.) How does "AUTOTRAN = Y" affect CORBA calls where we do call BEGIN, COMMIT and ABORT explicitly?CORBA calls are no different than ATMI calls with respect to AUTOTRAN. Interfaces market with AUTOTRAN=Y will have transactions started if one has not already been started prior to an operation on the interface being called. Note, the transaction policy in the ICF file must be set to OPTIONAL for AUTOTRAN on an interface to do anything. Otherwise the transaction policy as defined by the ICF file is followed.
    2a.) How does "AUTOTRAN = Y" affect RAC failover scenario in this case?What do you mean by "RAC failover scenario"? Again, simply think of AUTOTRAN=Y as being the exact same behavior as if the caller did:
    if (!tpgetlev())
        tpbegin();
    tpcall(...);
    if (!tpgetlev())
        tpcommit();
    4.) How does "AUTOTRAN = Y" affect /Q services calls (GTT)?
    * For example (TMQFORWORD -> SERVICE (TMS_ORACLE) )
    * The relevant services DO NOT call BEGIN, COMMIT or ABORT explicitly rather relay on TMQFORWORD for that.GTT? Global Transaction Table? I'm not following. With regards to TMQFORWARD, although you can use AUTOTRAN=Y and then tell TMQFORWARD to not make the call in the context of a transaction, the risk you run there is that the dequeuing of the message from the request queue will also not be done in a transaction. Thus in some failure scenarios a request could be lost. It is better to let TMQFORWARD begin the transaction so it can include the dequeuing of the request, the actual service call, AND the enqueuing of the reply all in a single transaction.
    I hope I answered your questions.
