Adding a 2nd WFE to a Production Farm - Load balanced using F5 Virtual IPs

Hello all,
In much reading I haven't been able to find a more or less straight answer to this question: I have a small-ish SharePoint farm; 1 WFE, 1 App and a SQL cluster. I need to bring a 2nd web front end into the farm. What I am trying to find
out is, may I install the SharePoint bits and join the new web front end to the farm - without putting the web apps' IPs into my F5 pools - without adversely impacting the farm?
What I'm after is time to test the new web front end by redirecting my browser to it via my hosts file. Once I'm confident all is well, I would then configure WFE2 to have traffic forwarded to it through the F5. Is this a reasonable hope?

Yes, that will work.
Having an extra WFE that isn't included in your load balancer is actually a fairly common practice when you use it as a dedicated crawl target, there' no impact to having it there unused for a while.

Load balance traffic to a service based on a added field in the HTTP Header

I am trying to use HTTP Header Load balancing but the field we want to use in order to load balance is "user-defined", example HTTP_TOTO = toto1.
Do you have any idea on how I could perform this ?

Load balancing using pre-defined headers is supported. Not sure if load balancing using user defined fields is possible. You could refer to the following document.

How to properly load balance between diffrent server farms.

Hi experts,
We are using an ACE 4710. We chose for our server farms to load balance using the least_connections predictor. it seems to work fine inside the same server farm but is it working properly between server farms? It doesn't seem because some of my real servers seems to be more loaded than others. Each server farm are using the same real servers.
Any idea about what is the problem or any suggestion regarding the best load balancing predictor we should use using this kind of configuration?

The ACE uses load-balancing algorithms or predictors to determine how to balance the traffic among the devices configured in the server farms, independent of the device type. For FWLB, we recommend that you use only the hash address source and the hash address destination predictors. Using any other predictor with FWLB may fail and block traffic, especially for applications that have separate control and data channels.

Sharepoint 2013 SP1 incoming email in load balanced farm not working on both servers

I have 2 SharePoint 2013 WFE servers with a VIP load balancer.
I have configured the basic scenario incoming email on both servers as per this article

The email makes it to both WFEs in the SMTP drop folder but SharePoint picks it up always from one smtp server.
What could go wrong? is there any additional configuration needed so that sharepoint check both servers?

MX records can be pointing to the IPs of your Incoming Email SharePoint servers. They should have the same weight if you want them to load balance, or different weights if you want them to be failover.

Error while adding a WFE to a Sharepoint farm

I am getting an error while trying to add a WFE to a sharepoint farm.
Below is the script I am running in the WFE server

I had done a lot of other tests to check whether the connection between the WFE and sharepoint farm is valid or not. For eg:
- Was able to create a configuration database in sharepoint farm from WFE server using New-SPConfigurationDatabase script. By this I was able to setup central admin in WFE.
The only problem is I am not able to connect to an existing configuration database. Please help.

Why does iTunes SUCK??
1) Many items greyed out in the menu bar, for well over 2 years, maybe more!
2) I Can't drag more than one piece of content from your iTunes library to any device (iPhone, iPad)
If you do it gets stuck for HOURS and HOURS in "Preparing To Update" and the little activity circle never completes, ever!!
I used to be able to drag over 1000 tunes, movies, etc. go have breakfast come back and it would all be on my device!!
Can't do it anymore, one song at a time, maybe an album at a time, or one movie, and that is it!!
If you do a 2nd item the other items stop loading and never continue!!
This is so BAD, I don't understand how they don't have this fixed yet!!
Please tell me I am not the only one!!
...and If I am tell me how to fix it!

How to find out logs related to which server, If i have 2 WFE's in the farm. How to configure logs path?

I got this doubt, when searching logs on the servers. I have 2 WFE's in my farm, I got an error from enduser. So in which WFE server i need to check the logs.
How to configure logs path. Is it is possible to specify logs path on our own instead of 14 hive folder.

That is a really bad idea, especially with idle disconnects and other unreliability of CIFS.
You should instead check out the command
Merge-SPLogFiles which will allow you to combine ULS logs from multiple servers into a single file.
You can certainly specify your own path, but the path must be available on all servers. For example, if you specified D:\Logs, D:\Logs must exist on all SharePoint servers within the farm.

Added a 2nd internal SCSI drive into my 7500/100 does not show up.

I added a 2nd internal SCSI drive into my 7500/100. It does not show up on the desk top. I rebuild the desktop reset the cuda and ran SCSIProbe. The computer starts up on the newly added drive. No sign from the original drive. Please help.

there are jumpers on the drives that need to be properly set. Both drives are set with the terminating resistor on, one needs to be off. Carefully note nthe placement of the existing jumpers then remove the jumper from the drive in the middle connector.

Note 109577 - Adding FL to FS version in Production

Hi guys,
I have followed note 109577 to change the message from E to I on adding GL to FS version in production system.
Now, note 135028: Transfer an IMG activity to current settings (or application menu in other words): requires obtaining the access key. However, is it really required to implement this node too? For as i see it, this will simply add the transaction code to the application menu which i think is not really important. User can type the transaction OB58 directly on the command line and use.
Correct? I don't want to obtain an access key unneccearily.
Appreciate advise on this

Thanks for your reply. As you say, i need to make configuration object V_T011 as 'current setting' in production. Do you mean this has to be done in production system? I tried but get Message no. TK102
'SAP System has status 'not modifiable'.
1. If going by Note 135028 (pt 4, procedure as on release 4.6), I call transaction SOBJ in dev system and select object V_T011 and then press Details. When i press change button, there is a prompt for Access key for R3TR TOBJ V_T011 V.
2. If going by note 356483 I call transaction SE54, enter customizing object V_T011, select generated objects and press create/change, again i get a prompt for access key for object R3TR FUGR 0F00.
However, note 356483 also says "The current setting functions are restricted to production clients". Does it mean this setting has to be maintained in production system directly?
So all paths appear to be blocked
Appreciate any help on this.

Adding a 2nd and 3rd Drive

I just added a 2nd and 3rd ata drive to my 450 MHZ tower. The motherboard had an open plug that said ata.
I plugged in the cord (strip) that came with the drive into the board and into the additional hard drives.
(fyi) I took both hard drives and strip from a working unix server.
I plugged in power to each.
I started up the mac. It shows the 1st drive on the desktop, but no others. Disk utility doesn't see the new drives either.
What did I miss?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the Discussions.
Your computer can only mount two drives unless you add another ATA controller card in an empty PCI slot. There's one bus that has the ability to control two drives.
The additional drive and cable you installed will need to be removed. The other that you attached to the existing data cable needs to have its jumper set to "slave" and then attach it to the center position on the cable. The jumpers are small plastic and metal blocks that connect two pins located next to where the data cable attaches to the drive. There should be a diagram on the drive for the settings. Just set it, reinstall then format it with Disk Utility (in your Utilities folder).

Data not Pulling after adding a 2nd Hierarchy in Account Dimension

Hi all. We had 2 hierarchies in our account dimension. We were having some performance issues, so I wanted to test reporting performance by deleting the 2nd hierarchy. I deleted the second one and now I am ready to add it back again, but I am having the toughest time. After I added the 2nd hierarchy no data is pulling through any report and I am getting evdre errors. I checked sql db and the data is there. And then if I take out the 2nd hierarchy the reports work fine. I added multiple hierarchies to dimensions before , so I am quite baffled on why this is happening.
Here's what I did. Deleted column PARENTH2 and FORMULAH2. Process. Then did some testing. And now Added columns Parenth2 and formulah2. Process.
Am I missing something here? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
We have SQL 2008 Enterprise sp2 CU3. BPC 7.5 MS SP3 patch5.

Thanks for your response. Yes I did process the dimension, modify dimension property and modify-->Process Application. And the second hierarchy was visible when I logged back into the application.
John, yes the second hierarchy was visible in SSAS.
This was why it was baffling to me!
So after a whole day of trying to figure this out, I sort of gave up and started working on something else. And because it was our test environment, it didnt have any effect on the users. One day later I logged back in and it was working! I took out the second hierarchy again and added it back. Processed, modified etc. I got the same result. I couldnt pull any data from the second hierarchy. I logged out, logged back in the day after and it started working. So, basically it seemed like the system needed some time (12-16 hours in this case) to adjust? I really don't know how/why this happened, maybe someone have an explanation for this?

You can sync as many iDevices as you own to a single iTunes library if you want to do so. If you manage the content manually, you can pick and choose the apps, music, videos and so on that you want on each device. One iTunes account means using the same Apple ID to purchase and update all of your apps. You can share apps on both devices because once you buy an app, you can download it to all of your iDevices - as many times as you want - using the same Apple ID and iTunes account. If you decide to do this, you have to sync to the same computer each time in order to keep all of your shared apps in the one iTunes library.
The Kindle App content is not synced to the iTunes library. It is controlled by your Kindle account. I believe that you can go into your Kindle account and transfer your purchase to your other devices - iPad, computer, etc. You can both have the Kindle app on your iPads and share the content as far as I know, so I see no conflict there. However, while I do have the Kindle app and an account, I do not use it very often.
If you want to share the one iTunes account, there should be no problems with a second iPad. I sync my iPad, my iPod Touch and my wife's iPod Touch to my MacBook using the same iTunes library and we have different content on all three devices. My daughter uses my iTunes account for her iPod Touch and syncs to her own MacBook and her own iTunes library.

I'm not familiar with O2's product lineup but given you're on Annex M is that a business package?
Are you on an Infinity residential or business package?
On the subject of the offshore support teams my experience from the other sife of the fence is that many, many of them are very technically orientated. The problem is that the ISPs they work for don't give them access to many of the tools that are needed (they need to raise internal requests to even get line checks done in some cases) and also they are very heavily scripted & monitored in what they do/say on a call.
Sounds like O2 are operating as a contact centre rather than as a call centre which is much more preferable from the customers point of view.
