Adding a local site to Dreamweaver CC that is through a mapped network drive breaks ALL connections
I am using Dreamweaver CC on Windows 8 on a machine that is hooked up to a local network. My site files are stored on another drive on that network and I am mapped to that drive. I have always been able to open in individual file from that drive in Dreamweaver. But I noticed that with one site I am working on, Dreamweaver would hang trying to make minor revisions to the PHP code. It was suggested to me to add the whole folder as a local site in Dreamweaver, so I did. At first I thought it was moving along much better -- no hanging while I was typing code. Then suddenly I realized I could not save the files. I was no longer connected to the drive I was working on. Even outside of Dreamweaver, I was unable to access the drive. I thought it was a network issue. I rebooted the computer and opened a Windows Explorer folder and was able to access the drive. Then I opened Dreamweaver again and the connection was lost.
To test my theory, I rebooted again, accessed the drive, waited a little while, accessed the drive, then opened Dreamweaver and it was lost. I tried this several times, each with the same result.
Then I went into Dreamweaver, removed the site from Dreamweaver and rebooted. I accessed the drive, opened Dreamweaver, and voila... I could still access the drive. So I tried adding the site back to Dreamweaver and I cannot access the drive after opening Dreamweaver again.
Without having the site in Dreamweaver, the files/Dreamweaver hangs EVERY TIME I TYPE CODE. Adding a site on a mapped local network drive BREAKS MY CONNECTION and disables my ability to work on the files. Is there a reason for this and more importantly, is there a fix? It seems like a very specific but illogical problem.
My next step is to find and install my old Homesite 4.5.
Thanks in advance for any useful advice!

I just tried adding another site. It seems like it is setting it up and reading the files but then at the end (apparently just as the connection breaks), it gives me these errors:
Cannot create [SITE NAME].
and
The local root folder, [FOLDER NAME], does not exist. Please select a new local root folder by clicking the Manage Sites button.
(I changed the out the actual site name and folder name above.)
I believe these were the same errors I got with the other site. At the time I was pushing a deadline and was too frantic to write it down.
Not that I think it has any relevance, but both sites are Wordpress sites.
Maybe what I should try next is mapping a different drive and trying to set up a site from there?
For that error you want you can try mapping it but it seems your sites root is just not defined... what DW is telling you is it could not find the specified folder when its trying to establish the new site. You might want to make sure your folder is there and all the spelling is correct, when making sure go your your Site Manager and make sure your root site is in your network drive.

How can we access a file that is on a mapped network drive.
If I have a network drive that is password protected and is already mapped on a server(x.x.x.x) as R drive. And I have file called temp.txt on R:\Temp folder on the mapped network drive.
How can I access it using file: using a client application running on that server.

When I use it the above way I am getting the following exception:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: \\network\share\Temp\temp.txt (Logon failure: unknown username or bad password).
From the above I can say that I need to specify the username and password.
Now my question is how do I specify the username and password in the URI?
Thanks for the help. You don't. It is required that the user account running the code already has permissions to the directory in the first place. -

It's possible your wi-fi router needs to be reset, or the firmware needs to be updated.

I am supporting a user who is logging into multiple linux systems that all have the same /home directory mounted to a network filer.
When the user opens firefox on one system, he is unable to open firefox on other systems.
I'm assuming this is because firefox is storing his profile in /home.
These are Centos 5.4 x64 systems, authenticatiing to a Windows 2003 Domain. The filer that hosts the home directories is a NetApp with both CIFS and NFS permissions enabled on the volume that /home resides. We are using the version that came with the Centos installation, 3.0.12So while this worked well for my computer at home, it does not work for the actual computer the disk is mounted on. If I try to mount the disk as the "office" user, the computer rejects the connection to itself and tells me to access it locally. Any ideas on how to handle this? Thanks again.

Here's the set up.
I have a cable router into the house and then an Airport Extreme connected to it. Everything connects wirelessly to the Airport Extreme apart from one computer in the same room as it, which I wired into the AE with a cable (it's a gaming PC and has no wireless).
How can I get that wired machine to use the same network as all the other wireless devices? When I plug the cable into it, the gaming PC only picks up the network being created by the cable box which I don't use. There is nothing stopping you connecting to the wireless computers if you have sharing turned on..
How can I get that wired machine to use the same network as all the other wireless devices? When I plug the cable into it, the gaming PC only picks up the network being created by the cable box which I don't use.
I don't quite follow this..
If the cable modem is a router.. the AE must be in bridge mode..
So all routing is handled by the cable modem router.. and the wireless clients will all be in the same IP range as the PC is.. please check that by opening the PC command window and type ipconfig /all
Then go to one of the wireless devices and check that it also has the same IP range.. eg,, 192.168.x.x and same router or gateway address eg 192.168.1.1 and same DNS.. which is the same as the router address..
Then in the command window of the PC use the command ping to see if the other devices respond.. ping it by name or by IPaddress.
If there is no response.. windows has decided it is in a public network.. and slammed up the firewalls.. make sure your network is set as home for location.. and make sure the firewalls .. you can have multiple if you have an internet security package are not blocking local network access.
Also remember PC and Mac in a network can take a bit of fiddling to see each other. But ping should always respond and in both directions. -
I've renamed my Macintosh HD on my Macbook something else-and

allows me to edit and work on them-but then when I save and preview
it can't locate the files. I've changed the name of my hard drive

stuck and this is frustrating the hell out of me-what do I
do?If it is during the preview, check the test server
information in the site settings. -
How to access a remote site in dreamweaver
This might seem like a simple question, but i just downloaded DW as a trial, and want to try it out before buying. Now I've done the remote site set up and tested and it says it can connect to my remote site. But I want to now go to the site, log in, and make some changes to the web site pages which are stored there. None of the stuff is stored on my home PC. It's all at the remote site. So how do I edit it? How do I even log in? DW seems intended to work on files on your home PC, and then publish them to a remote site. My problem is it's all ON the remote site.
Hi Nancy,
No, I'm not getting those selections under the file menu. What I've done is go to server, manage servers, and set up a remote server. When I test it it says "dreamweaver connected to your web server succesfully". So I assume that the remote server, at least, is set up properly. I didn't set up a "local site" however. Perhaps that could be it? But those choices are not on the drop-down box, even grayed out. If I click on "open" the box goes to my PC for choices. On the left side it has" My recent documents, desktop, my documents, my network (which doesn't lead anywhere) -
Testing a local site in a browser
Hello,
I've defined a local site in dreamweaver CS3. I see correctly
my html pages in the design view of DW, it finds all the local
links, applys CSS styles (from an external style sheets that is on
the same folder of the hml file).
The problem comes when I want to test it with browsers
(Firefox and IE7) [F12], links and style sheets doesn't work any
more. I don't know what I can do to see my local site and my remote
site identically. Maybe I have to modify something in the 'hosts'
file of my computer?
Many thanks for any help.
GeoffreyYou are being confused by a) not understanding root relative
vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews
files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like
this -
<img src="/images/foo.gif"...
That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the
document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive,
since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the
image is
broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert
the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the
browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document
relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and
has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all
external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has
made the
document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links
would be broken on
preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp
files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of
your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp
file. This is
what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use
document
relative links for the site -
<img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how
to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.

Use Offsite Dev Server As Local Site In DW CS5?
I have been assigned the task of updating files from a 3rd party, offsite server, to our in-house live server. My question is this, is there a way to set the offsite server directory, (of which I have to login to with user name and password), as my local site in Dreamweaver CS5? I would like to do it this way in the hopes that DW's synchronization will help me keep the newest files up to date on the live server.
Currently the process works as follows: A 3rd party updates pages for our site and uploads them to the offsite development server. The updated files are then downloaded to a local directory onsite. Then the local files are uploaded to our live server. I would like to set it up so I can simply synchronize the offsite dev server with our live server through DW. Basically, mirror the two servers in DW.
Any ideas? Can DW do this?
Thanks.DW could only do that if you can map that offsite server to your computer.
Why not do it this way?
1. Set up a site with your local site as usual and the remote site on the 3rd party server. You would downsynch to grab the changed files.
2. Define a second server for this site to be the remote production server. You would then switch to this remote server, and upsynch.
It's still a few steps but it's not too bad. It's all done within that single site definition. -
"Cannot connect to server" error when setting up MAMP local server in Dreamweaver cc 2014
I am trying to set up my Wordpress 4.1 site with MAMP 3.0.7.3 in Dreamweaver cc 2014, but I am getting a "Cannot connect to server" error when trying to view the site live. The site works fine on the localhost:8888. I am using OS X Yosemite and PHP 5.6.2. Below are screenshots of my Dreamweaver settings. Thanks in advance.
Hi Subhadeep!
Think I'm getting closer (Lol). I did as you suggested and changed the web url to http://localhost:8888/Documents/projects/whoknew/. As you suggested I moved the local site to the Documents folder under the sub-folder projects. It is connecting to the server, but now I am getting the requested url cannot be found on the server. Below are screenshots of my current settings.

Embeding lightroom web site into dreamweaver?
I've created a website in dreamweaver and currently have links to different lightroom web pages. www.owendawsonphotography.com. An annoying problem with this method is having to back click through lighroom to get to your home page. Being new to the web design program is there a way to embed the sites into dreamweaver so that you have the ability to set up a home button on each of the LR sites? I'm guessing not, but just thought I'd ask. Thanks, Owen
You could use the Contact field to point back to your home page, and have a contact point there rather than all over the LR galleries. Also, if you use the Identity plate I believe you could put in a link to your home page. There's also LR galleries at http://theturninggate.net and other sites, and likely other solutions that hopefully others will offer.

Environment:
OS: Windows 7 32/64 bit, Windows 2008 Server 64
bit/ Windows 2012 Server 64 bit
Priority:
- Critical
Requirement: - Since
the Windows Service is running under the Local System Account, we would like to emulate this same behaviour.
Basically, we would like to run CMD.EXE under the Local System Account. So that we can map a network drive to be used by a service using following
command
net use z: \\servername\sharedfolder /persistent:yes.
Already Attempt:
We tried to launch the CMD.exe using the DOS Task Scheduler AT command. Here’s a sample command:
AT 10:36 /interactive cmd.exe
But I received a warning that “due
to security enhancements, this task will run at the time excepted but not interactively.”
It turns out that this approach will work for XP, 2000 and Server 2003 but due to session isolation
Interactive services no longer work on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and above.
2. We
tried to create a secondary Windows Service via the Service Control (sc.exe) which merely launches CMD.exe.
<Drive>:\sc create RunCMDAsLSA binpath= "cmd" type=own type=interact <Drive>:\sc
start RunCMDAsLSA
In this case the service fails to start and results it the following error message:
FAILED 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
3. One
suggestion, we found to launch CMD.exe via a Scheduled Task, but
it is not giving any option to launch CMD.exe in interactive mode; so that I can map network drive using net command.
4. I read an article, which
demonstrates the use of PSTools from SysInternals. I launched the command line and executed following command
psexec -i -s cmd.exe
PSTools worked fine, but It seems that in scope of Sysinternals Software License
Terms. You may not "use the software for commercial software hosting services."
Application will deploy on client, which will be like commercial,
so we are not able to use PSTools.
Kindly assist us for achieving the requirement. We have tried all the ways, but nothing is working for us. Kindly suggest.
I will be really thankful.Hi Sir,
Nothing worked from above for us. You can see our remarks on posted query.
That’s why, we posted on forum.
And there will not be any vulnerability, because, if we will use "net
use ..."
in network domain; definitely,
we will provide username and password of mapped drive system.
And, that system, itself is given by client; so that, there must not be any vulnerability; they are ready to provide user name and password.
We need a way; by which we can complete the requirement. Kindly assist.

S. P. Singh
