Adding a Parameter to a built in Report

Using SSRS, I cloned (using a simple save as command with a new name) the built in "Computers with a specific product" report and would like to add a parameter to filter the results by a device collection. This parameter exists in the
"Computers with specific software registered in Add Remove programs" report.
I am not familiar with SSRS and so editing this way is alien to me. I have only authored static SQL queries with no parameters in the past. Does anyone have any advice on how to get started? It appears I need to add a new data set for the collection
using an SQL query. Is this correct?

I was able to get what I needed. but I don't have the foggiest notion of where I got the informatin from. Here are the notes I took (YMMV):
Creating the Dataset
A dataset for all collections must be added. The parameter relies on this dataset to pull the list of collections. You can name it
All_Collections or something similar.
select distinct c.CollectionID, c.Name, c.CollectionType from v_Collection c
WHERE c.CollectionType = 2
order by c.Name
This returns all collection names; the
WHERE clause specifies computer collections only.
Adding the parameter
In the main query/dataset, create an inner join between the
v_R_System and
v_FullCollectionMembership views
using the ResourceID field.
Name the parameter
CollID.
Create a filter/WHERE statement what says CollectionID is @CollID, e.g.
WHERE  v_FullCollectionMembership.CollectionID = @ColID
This assumes the parameter added is named
CollID; if not, the value after the equals in the statement above should match the name of the parameter.
In the Where statement above, the GUI report building will insert N'variable'
(e.g. N'CollID') around the CollID value. This should be removed. If the query is created in the report builder GUI, you must switch it over to editing by text.
Note: What the N does is tell the SQL Server that the data which is being passed in is uni-code and not character data. When using only the Latin character set this is not really needed.
However if using characters which are not part of the basic Latin character set then the N is needed so that SQL knows that the data being given it is uni-code data.
Recommendation: Create all joins and filters using the GUI for the main query first. When done, edit the parameter as described in item b above
to enable use of the collection selection parameter.
Hope this helps!

  • Adding Additional Parameter in Oracle Reports -- Is this Possible?

    Hi,
    Please help me with this predicament: There are several reports being called through a single form, wherein a common parameter list is being used. Now I need to add another parameter called BLANKPAGES to one report only. Is it possible for me to put this script inside that one report's trigger?
    ADD_PARAMETER ( pl_id , ' BLANKPAGES ' , TEXT_PARAMETER , ' NO ' ) ;
    What are my other options?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jansen

    Try this
    if :report_name = 'NEW_REPORT' (user substr if needed) then
    ADD_PARAMETER ( pl_id , ' BLANKPAGES ' , TEXT_PARAMETER , ' NO ' ) ;
    end if;

  • Passing multiple parameter values to a detail report.  How?

    Help!
    I have a Summary report and a Detail report.
    Summary report has a parameter that may have multiple values (ie returning an array).
    I need to pass these values to the Detail report.
    Anybody has managed to do it?
    Thanks in advance...
    Inga

    Thank you for your reply Sunil...
    The problem is as follows:
    I have a report portlet that has a parameter with multiple values. Ie I would have two status values passed into this Summary report that shows, say total sum for those statuses. I have a link from this report to a detail report, and i need to pass both of these values into the detail report.
    I have tried adding a parameter (p_status_param) in the SQL query that would be a part of link by building it in "PL/SQL after header section" and doing the parameter replace.
    SQL query:
    select
    '<a href="./RTS.RPT_OPEN_CALLS_BY_ASSIGNEE_01.SHOW?p_arg_names=p_assigned_user_id&p_arg_values='||cr.assigned_user_id||''||:p_status_param||'''><font class=portletText1>'||s.user_name||'</font></a>' full_name,
      cr.assigned_user_id,
      count(*) total_calls
    from
      trts_call_request cr,
      trts_security s
    where
      cr.assigned_user_id = s.user_id
      and cr.current_status_id in :p_status
      and cr.assigned_user_id in :p_assigned_user_id)
    group by
      s.user_name,
      assigned_user_id
    PL/SQL:
    declare
        v_return    varchar2(32767) := '';
    begin
        for i in 1..l_arg_names.count loop
            if l_arg_names(i) = p_reference_path||'.p_status' then
                v_return := v_return || '&p_arg_names=p_status&p_arg_values='||l_arg_values(i);
            end if;
        end loop;
         myats30.wwv_name_value.replace_value(l_arg_names, l_arg_values, 'p_status_param',myats30.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(v_return) );
    htp.p(v_return);
    end;
    However, when you run the report, this is what you get (see what the parameter has been replaced with):
    ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis (WWV-11230)
    Failed to parse as RTS - select '<a href=./RTS.RPT_OPEN_CALLS_BY_ASSIGNEE_01.SHOW?p_arg_names=p_assigned_user_id&p_arg_values='||cr.assigned_user_id||''|| ( :zz21, :zz22, :zz23 ) _param||''"><font class=portletText1>'||s.user_name||'</font></a>' full_name, cr.assigned_user_id, count(*) total_calls from trts_call_request cr, trts_security s where cr.assigned_user_id = s.user_id and cr.current_status_id in ( :zz21, :zz22, :zz23 ) and cr.assigned_user_id in :p_assigned_user_id) group by s.user_name, assigned_user_id order by ASSIGNED_USER_ID ASC (WWV-08300)
    Any ideas how I could build this link programatically???
    Thank you...

    I would recommend reading this before posting here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/adf-methodology/PzncJBPMFDw/7mxNblt_ppYJ
    You give far to little detail about the scenario.
    Is it an OOTB taskflow that you extended. If so, which one and what parameter did you add + how did you do it.
    How did you deploy to spaces
    There are a lot of steps in that process that can go wrong so don't expect us to come up with an answer based upon this basic information.

  • How to transport Parameter changes in a crystal report

    Hi All,
    Very Good morning!!!
    I have designed a crystal report with static parameters. Earlier i used to have a dropdown kind of input selection for my parameters.
    Now i got a new requirement for a direct input in the field....tht means no dropdown ...single date field is to be entered directly.
    Accordingly i have removed the dropdown and changed to a single direct date field. I saved these changes to a request and transported to quality. Not sure whether the parameter changes are collected into a request.
    Whereas i couldn't found any changes of my parameters in quality. They are as same dropdown manner in the quality whereas i need them to be a direct field date entry which did not affected the quality server after transporting the changes.
    Could some one please let me know how to reflect these changes in quality server regarding parameter changes in a crystal report for BW.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Parameter form  which generates a report in delimited format

    Hello , I have a parameter form which calls a report in delimited format.
    In the RUN_REPORT* (Function Body) in program units , I have made the following modifications :
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(v_report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'DELIMITED');
    I get a report in txt format . The problem is that when I convert my txt file to excel , I get the label of each row which repeats the number of records found ! I should have the label appearing once followed by the data . What can I do to make that possible please ?
    or if I have a simple query e.g SELECT * FROM BANKS to generate in txt format . Can I write some code in PL/SQL to write the results of such a query in txt format?
    Thanks
    Edited by: twinklin_girl on Aug 28, 2009 3:53 AM

    I think I got the solution !
    I simply need to add the following in my run_report procedure :
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(v_report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'*DelimitedData*');
    I get the actual title of each field(as it is in the database) displayed once followed by all records . It's not a perfect solution but I think it will do for now.

  • Added new parameter but it doesn't worl properly.

    here is the code that i used.
    added new parameter date_where, but after that the mark_all and clear_all is not working.

    Hi All,
    Issue is solved...
    Thanks..

  • Problem using default value of report parameter 1 to validate parameter 2 passed in to report

    I am having a problem with an SSRS report using the default value of report parameter 1 to validate parameter 2 passed in to report (via C#) instead of using the value of parameter 1 that is also passed into the report.  Here are the
    simplified details:
    Using SSDT, SQL Server 2008 R2
    SSRS report has 2 parameters:
    P1 -- text, hidden, default value 'R1', ... front-end C# code can pass 'R2' or 'R1'
    P2 -- text, allows multiple values, list of available values provided by stored procedure (sproc_list) that takes P1 value as a parameter.  Hence, sproc_list either provides a list for P1 = 'R1' or P1 = 'R2'.
    List for P1 = 'R1' is 'A', 'B', 'C'
    List for P1 = 'R2' is 'A', 'B', 'D'
    Values for P1 and P2 can be passed in via C# to the report.
    The C# front-end displays 2 report choices to the user, R1 and R2, where both choices call the same RDL; but choice R1 passes in 'R1' for P1, and the choice R2 passes in 'R2' for P1.
    Upon a users 1st time use of the report no parameters are passed in.  Then when the user exits the report, the parameter value for P2 that was chosen is saved off to a file for R1 or R2, and used the next time the user selects the report.
    Everything always works fine for report R1 since the default value for P1 is 'R1'.
    When R2 is chosen and the user selects 'D' as the value for P2, runs the report, then exits, the P2 value of 'D' for R2 is saved to a file.  When the user returns the next day to run report R2, 'R2' is passed for P1, and 'D' is passed for P2.
    This is when the problem occurs.  The value of 'D' for P2 is validated against a list generated for P2 based on the default value of 'R1' for parameter P1.  Hence, SSRS considers 'D' an invalid value for P2 and blanks out the P2 parameter.
    The user can then use the drop down list for P2 and choose 'D', but this defeats the purpose of saving the parameter values to be used the next time.
    Why is the stored procedure that provides a list of available values for parameter P2 using the default value of 'R1' for parameter P1 instead of using the value of 'R2' passed into the report for parameter P1?

    Hi Tom,
    Sorry for my delay.
    If I understand correctly, you have two parameter in your report. It is a couple of cascading parameter. If we have choose ‘R1’ of P1, the P2 values is A, B, C. ‘R2’ of P1, corresponding P2 values is A, B, D. What your requirement is to save the end use
    select option of these two parameters.
    In SSRS, if we have configure the parameter with default value. When we run the report, the parameter will fill with the default value to filter data. If we want to save the last status we are render the report, we need to update the default value of P1.
    If we are query the default value from database, if possible, we can
    update the database try to resolve the issue.  Alternatively, we can set the dynamic default value for the parameter.
    Hope this helps.

  • Calling a multi value parameter seems to slow down report

    Hi
    Nearly all of my datasets use a multi value parameter at present which from testing seems to be causing a long delay.
    If I change the dataset to not call the parameter and manually enter the values in this works quicker, the only issue being if I need to add an additional value I need to then do it on multiple datasets rather than one parameter.
    A way around this I thought was to do the below which doesn't seem as slow as my original method.
    To try better explain I have done this
    SELECT
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType
    FROM
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob
    WHERE
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType IN (N'1', N'4', N'5', N'8', N'12', N'17', N'40', N'45', N'60')
    I then have a parameter which has default values > dataset > JobType
    The actual dataset shown in the report then shows
    WHERE
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType IN (@ABSJobs)
    Does this make sense or is there a better way of doing what I am trying to do?
    Is there a known issue with Report Builder 3.0 and multiple parameters?
    Any help/advice appreciated.
    Cheers
    Cheers Chris

    Hi Chris,
    According to your description, when you create a multivalued parameter, then specify its values from a dataset, the report is running slower.
    In Reporting Services, all datasets within a report will be retrieved when running the report. In your scenario, if you specify the parameter values from a dataset, it’s possible to cause performance issue. If parameter doesn’t have too many values, you
    could specify the values for the parameter with specified values in Report Parameter Properties.
    Besides, in Reporting Service, the total time to generate a report include TimeDataRetreval, TimeProcessing and TimeRendering. In your scenario, you could run the report in report server, check the table
    Executionlog3 in the ReportServer database to analyze which section take much time. Then you can refer to this article to optimize your report:
    Troubleshooting Reports: Report Performance.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Need help with adding formatted text and images to Crystal Report?

    Here's my scenario:
    I have a customer statement that's generated as a crystal report and that has a placeholder for advertisement. The advertisement is mixture of formatted text and images. Until now we only had one advertisement that was always used on the report. The new requirement is that we would have a pool of hundreds of advertisements and would need to display one specific advertisement on the customer statement based on various marketing criteria. They key is that the advertisement content will be determined programmatically and cannot be hardcoded into the report. I'm using Crystal2008 with .net SDK.
    Here are the solutions I thought of, but I'm still rather lost and would appreciate your help/opinion.
    1) Pass HTML or RTF to the report
    Not really sure if this is possible and how to get it done. Also how would I pass in images? Would display formatting be reliable when exporting to PDF?
    2) Create each add as a subreport and append it programatically
    I actually have this working, but I only know how to append a new section to the end of the report and then load the subreport to the section. I have no other controll of the placement. Is there a way to dynamically load a subreport to a predefined section in the main report? How about adding a dummy subreport in the main report as a placeholder and then replacing it with a different subreport? How could I do this?
    3) Pass an Image to the report
    I would create each advertisement as an image and then would somehow add the image to the report. How would I load the image and control the placement? Could I somehow define a placeholder for the image in the main report-maybe a dummy image to be replaced?
    Thank you.

    Hello Pavel,
    I would got the third way.
    You can use dynamic images in your report.
    Just by changing the URL to the image the image can be changed.
    Please see the [Crystal Manual|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/cr2008/en/xir3_cr_usergde_en.pdf] and search for images.
    or directly here

  • How do I pass a default parameter to a CR XI report in VB6?

    Hi,
    How do I pass a default parameter to a CR XI report in VB6?
    For example I have a parameter list of years from 2000 to 2020 and I want to pass on the result of str(Year(Now)) so that the user automatically sees the current calendar year as his/her default option - but can choose another year from the drop down list - if wished.
    "AddDefaultValue" seems to have no effect at all (probably because the current year already exists in the parameter list)
    "AddCurrentValue" removes the parameter altogether and the report defaults to the current year.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Peter Tyler

    Hi Mark, thanks for your quick response.
    >>You might find it easier to do the dropdowns and calendar selections on the VB6 side and just pass the record selection to the report >>
    This is what I am doing but I cannot get the current year to appear as the default in the drop down parameter list also it appears I cannot clear the existing report parameter fields.
    This is my code:
    'clear the existing parameter list of the Year parameter
    MsgBox CrRep.ParameterFields.GetItemByName("Year").NumberOfDefaultValues
    This gives me the total number of existing parameters in the CRXI report
    CrRep.ParameterFields.GetItemByName("Year").ClearCurrentValueAndRange
    MsgBox CrRep.ParameterFields.GetItemByName("Year").NumberOfDefaultValues
    This gives me the new number of existing parameters in the CRXI report which is exactly the same as before so .ClearCurrentValueAndRange seems to have no effect
    'now add the new default parameter to the list
    CrRep.ParameterFields.GetItemByName("Year").AddDefaultValue (Str(Year(Now)))
    CrRep.ParameterFields.GetItemByName("Year").AddDefaultValue (varUnderline)
    'now generate and add the required parameter fields
    Dim varParameterYear As String
    varParameterYear = "2003"
    Do While Not varParameterYear = "2031"
    CrRep.ParameterFields.GetItemByName("Year").AddDefaultValue (varParameterYear)
    varParameterYear = varParameterYear + 1
    Loop
    The result of the above as that the intially declared parameter (Str(Year(Now)))
    - which is "2009" - now appears at the top of the generated parameter list but is not the default parameter and the user still has to drop down the list box to choose the year.
    Any advice on both these issues would really help !

  • How to add a parameter to sql query in report

    Hi
    How to add a parameter to sql query in report.
    Parameter is from Visual studio
    example:
    select * from tab1 where dl=parameter???
    I have VS 2008 prof CR XI R2, mysql

    Hello,
    If you have this API available then you can modify the record selection formulae in code to add filtering:
              string recordSelectionFormula = "{T_INV_RPT_ADDR.IND_PROMUS} = {?P_PROMUS?} AND {T_INV_RPT_POINT.INVOICE_DATE} = DATE(2008, 05, 31) AND {T_INV_RPT_POINT.CHECKOUT_DATE} = date(2008, 04,29)";
                CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.RecordSelectionFormula = recordSelectionFormula;
    You have to format and follow the rules as in the Designer so not too much work to get this to work.
    CR for .NET may not have the ability so you will need to upgrade to a Developer version of Crystal Reports.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Using a Simple Parameter Form Portlet with a Report Portlet to Search DB

    My organization registers clients for workshops in iLearning.We use iPortal for our web site. I would like to use a Simple Parameter Form Portlet for clients to conduct a search on the data that is in iLearning and have it displayed in a Report Portlet on a separate page. I have been able to bring the iLearning data into the Report Portlet but I have not been successful in setting up the Simple Parameter Form Portlet to do a search on the data and then have it displayed. Any suggestions.

    hi,
    i just tested this in portal 10.1.4 and it works fine. you can fire an event and pass a parameter from a simple parameter form portlet and consume this page parameter in a portlet builder reports component. there is some documented behavior in bug 3321558 that has to do with personaliziation (customization in older releases). if you enter some personalization the page parameter gets ignored. for more information on this please contact oracle support services.
