Adding additional scenarios to Discovery System

Since the Discovery System is SOA focused it does not contain the non SOA related scenarios.   I believe it should be possible to configure other functionality on this server for Proof of Concepts.  In particular I want to look at ESS/MSS functionality.   Are there any technical reasons I cannot create a POC for this on the Discovery System?    I would also be interested in any documentation on how to quickly build the ESS/MSS system.

hi Dave,
Some of the ESS/MSS components are installed on the Discovery System, but not all of them have been configured. MSS My Budget configuration has been completed.
ESS/MSS installation/ configuration documents are available in the SAP service market place- https://websmp202.sap-ag.de/mss

  • New Scenarios in Discovery System V3

    Dear Experts!!
Can some body tell me what new industry specific scenarios have been added to the V3 of the Discovery system?

  • The development methodology of scenarios in Discovery system

    Dear Experts,
I am new to the Discovery System(DS) and I have done all the scenarios of DS in my environment.
I would like to know following things regarding the scenarios:
    1. How are the designing of the scenarios done?
When I have to design the scenario, what are the basic things I should bear in mind to make a business application for a client?
( Making simple WebDynpros and Visual composers are not that difficult, but I would like to know how the designing is done at first?
    2. What are the basics to decide whether we will use the guided procedure or Visual composer to make a business workflow?
I am really looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks in advance
    sudeep

    Hi Sudeep,
    1) typically you'd start with a definition of the scenario (business process) you'd like to cover. This could be done using any tool. Here https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/5d84c39c-0d01-0010-da89-f91b698cdfcd is an example how to do it for the Procurement Process that is on the Discovery System. After having the scenario 'on paper' you can have a look at the different steps and activities and map these to technology.
    2) the main differentiator: GP would be used to tie different steps of a scenario together. VC would be used to design the user facing part. VC screens can be then integrated into the larger context of a GP.
    Hope that helps,

  • Syndicating based on Addition of a Remote System Key

    Hi
We have a distributed system syndication scenario where we need to syndicate a record automatically when a remote system key is added to an existing harmonized record in MDM. By adding the Remote System Key, it essentially means the remote system is 'subscribing' to the new harmonized record.
Is there any way to fire off a syndication event when a new remote system key is added to a record? It seems that MDM currently only flags a record as ready to be syndicated when a value changes in one of the fields of that record - it doesn't seem to identify the addition of a new system key to the record as a change to the record.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

    Hi Ravi
Thanks for the reply. The current view is that we were going to add it manually as a remote system key mapping, as the material record would already exist and would have been harmonized in mdm - so no need to add it through an import map. The scenario is that the master record already exists and another system wishes to also receive this record. Any thoughts on what options do we have if we go this approach?
Also, is their anyway to indicate if a remote system key is added for a new system to an existing mdm material, to indicate when syndicating that the record being sent is a 'Create' record - and hence only to syndicate it to the new remote system added and not to the other systems which also have remote key's against that record?
    Thanks

  • Adding additional dimensions in HFM

    Hi Experts,
    Need your advice.
Present scenario: we have an HFM application which is pulling data from Peoplesoft transactional system. for the current application we have created 4 custom dimension and based on it all the mappings were done.
Required:there is a requirement for adding additional custom dimension.
i just want to know if it is possible to add additional custom dimension in the present application without affecting the previous data within the application.
please advice the steps and the precautions to be taken.
will such addition affect the previous period data?
    Thanks in advance.

What version of HFM are you running?
If you are at 11.1.2.2 (or higher I would imagine), then following link seems to provide some basic instructions on this process:
    http://blog.topdownconsulting.com/2015/01/adding-custom-dimensions-hfm/
    I would think about:
    (1) Is an additional dimension necessary - could you possibly split up an existing custom dimension (in the past, when only 4 custom dims were allowed, many times a dimension would serve dual purposes),
    (2) If you do decide to add a new dimension, this would be a major change that would effect all aspects of the application (data loading, reporting, historical data, consolidation rules, forms, grids, etc) - so, do you have a test system you could experiment with?  At the very least you would want to make a copy of the current app and convert the copy as a test,
    (3) probably you would want to do a thorough analysis of your consolidation rules before hand to see what the implications are of adding the new dim.

  • Improve Portal performance with BI-Java by adding additional server node.

    Hi SAP Expert
I wonder anyone might have attempted this before,
In an environment with BI-Java and Portal Java stack installed on the same server, is it possible to improve the system performance by adding additional portal server node? or is there any improvement seen by adding the extra server node?
I am after suggestion and experience on how the portal performance can be improve, with consideration of BI-Java sharing Portal resources.
Any comment will be most appreciated.

    Hi Jim,
We've this configuration at our site, Portal and BI running together (not federated).  Recommendations would be to:
    1. Set a sensibly large max heap size on each server node of Portal (at least 2GB if not larger) and implement several nodes at least.  For example we have 4 x physical nodes, each running 3 server nodes of 2GB max heap size apiece so a total of 12 nodes.
    2. Implement the BI Safety Belt for large results sets (1127156)
    3. Implement the latest JVM / JDK you can on your environment.  We found much improved performance after implementing JDK SR10 with the J9/2.3 options enabled e.g.,  -Xjvm:j9vm23
    -Xsoftrefthreshold0
    4. Patch your BI components on the Portal (BIBASES, BIWEBAPP etc) to the latest available patch level for your Portal SP level
    5. Make sure all your RFC connections are load balanced to the backend and tuned for the kind of load you expect on your reports, and the BI is sized appropriately in terms of app servers and dialog work processes, RFC-enabled login groups in SMLG etc.
    6. Consult notes 1048691 (especially useful, opions &PROFILING=X&TRACE=X added to reports for example for performance tracing), 937697, 1021921, 948158 for information about problem analysis for this scenario
    7. Implement SAP Web Dispatcher for Portal to reduce load on static mime files
    8. Tune the Portal application.  There's plenty information on SDN related to Portal performance tuning.
    I hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    Marc

  • Discovery System: Problems with exposing RFC as web service

We have a version 2 discovery system and have successfully implemented the three exercises from the TechEd workshop (Sales Order Distribution, Creating a PO Store Record WS, Adding a New Step to the Procurement Scenario with SAP CAF GP). It seems to work fine except for two issues with the RFC/WS:
    1) The RFC, and therefore the WS, always returns an empty string instead of the 'X' that the documentation shows in Step 4.h. We checked the RFC itself and it looks like it has an error with the price field; it always appends a blank to the end of the price string and then errors.
    2) The created web service does not show up on the Web Services Navigator page. Since the instructions tell you to save the URL to the WSDL, we can find the web service and test it, but you cannot find it on the Navigator page.
Neither of these problems are huge, but they make me worry that something is not quite right in the Discovery System and we may end up with larger problems later. Any ideas what could cause these two problems, and how to fix them?
    Thanks, Eric

    Hi Eric,
First of all let me assure you that your system is perfectly fine and both topics that you have raised are the way the system is suppose to respond.
    1. The reason that the service is returning a null is because you are entering the same input parameters more than once. Since some of the parameters are used as primary key's in the database, you will need to change them in order to successfully store the data.
    2. The reason that you don't see the service in the Navigator page is because this service resides in the ERP and not in WebAS. Only services deployed on the WebAS will appear in the Web Service Navigator page.
    Thanks,

  • IDES vs. Discovery System

    Hi,
What are the differences between SAP Discovery System and IDES? For example, does Discovery system include all standard SAP transactions (like IDES includes) etc.? Can we create our own scenarios or do we have to use only preconfigured ones?
    Br,
      Hannu
Edited by: Hannu Alakangas on Feb 1, 2008 7:27 PM

    Hi Hannu,
The SAP Discovery System's ERP (SAP ECC 6.0) is configured using the SAP Best Practices Baseline (in v2.0 we have the baseline for ECC5.0 and in v3.0 we have the baseline for ECC6.0) offering for the US. The master data etc. is provided by SAP Best Practices, not IDES. Therefore IDES data is not in the system but only data needed for our specific scenarios is there.
IDES and SAP Best Practices vary significantly.
First, the SAP Best Practices is delivered with an implementation configuration set, not just as a reference. This means that all of the configuration settings are captured into BC sets that can be activated in a new system, captured in transports and transported from Dev to QA and Production.
Additionally, the Best Practices have accompanying configuration guides so that if someone were to use the system as a reference and wanted to know what configuration was activated in the system, they would be able to find out.
SAP Best Practices is fully reusable content either for sandbox, prototype, development, or production. Each SAP Best Practice may have either an industry or cross-industry focus which will help the customer for blueprinting. In the case of the Discovery System, we used our most generic ERP offering, "Baseline".
IDES on the other hand is a fully configured reference system which may have process documentation, but the configuration is not delivered in a way that can be transported outside of a sandbox environment.
    Hope that clarifies.

  • Use of Discovery System

I am interested in getting the Discovery system. I want to use it as a means of exploring the SAP functionality for my organization. We are a cargo airline and would like to explore if SAP is a good fit for our Aircraft Maninenace, repair and Overhaul module (MRO) as well scenarios in Finace , SD and MM.
I am not interested in learning about SOA except as a by product, but to evaluate the functionality of the different modules like GRC, Solution Manager and XI.
Is it possible to configure things given I have the proper SAP license ? What kind of a license would I need ?
Information is difficult to come by even from HP itself or SAp.
    Please respond.

    Hi Anju,
In general: Of course you can use the Discovery system to evaluate whatever software or functionality is installed on the box. So this is definitely true for the ERP modules, GRC, Solution Manager and XI as mentioned below. The DS comes with full administrative rights making it possible for you to configure anything you want (having a backup in place is advised).
    Licensing:
You need to have an SAP ERP or SAP Business Suite license in place to activate the Discovery system. This will give you the chance to evaluate the software and components on the system for a maximum of up-to 6 month (for those components you don't have licensed yet). However customer specific licensing is somewhat unique. Therefore it is advised to contact your SAP account manger or sales representative to find out about your specific situation in detail.
    Hope that helps,

  • Adding additional j2ee node

    Hello,
we are running BI 7 - abap+java stacks with 16 GB ram (recently added)
i would like to know what is the thumb rule for adding additional j2ee node?
when is it neccassary to add additional j2ee node?
    Regards,
    Moshe

    Hi,
The JLaunch starts a Java program. It loads the JVM into its own address space and then represents the required cluster element. The program can receive notification from the JControl process via named pipes to stop the cluster element, and terminates, if the JControl stops running (fork emulation under Windows).
So Jlaunch consuming high CPU time means that server, dispatcher or bootstrap process consume it. If there are not enough system or application threads avaliable means that the engine must buffering requests for web application or system processes. Things to check in this case are:
SAP NOTE 1016241 - J2EE Engine hangs because of unsufficient system threads
SAP note: 716604  and upgrade JDK.
SAP note: 723909 -> set correct VM parameters
and if issue persists, then you will need to analyse the application causing teh leak...
    SAP note: 1259465: Memory analyser.

  • Use of Discovery System :question from a vendors perspective

    Hi all
I have a question regarding Discovery System(DS) from a vendors perspective.
what can client actually do with the DS as soon as they buy it, beside using the demo scenario?
Going through the demo if the client decides to use Discovery system, What sorts of works are necessary for fitting the DS and replacing the existing system? Lets us suppose that the client is previously using SAP software(R/3), in this case how he can start using the DS?
Does he have to set a project, the size that of while implementing R/3, and use a great deal of resource for doing the fitting work, the add-ons and testing?
I am just curious about the approximate cost of the implementation and how the client can be persuaded for the ROI on DS.
I am really looking forward to hearing from you.
    thanks in advance
    sudeep

    Hi Sudeep,
    to your questions:
    - planning migrations
You can evaluate what you will get (technically and functionally) after a migration by looking at the Discovery System already in advance. Customers use that option to shortlist and prioritize new stuff to implement after a migration.
    - evaluate compliance tools
Almost the same as above with the difference in the tools/topics. Check out on the DS what you will get in the area of compliance tools without the need for a dedicated project/system.
    - simulate business processes
Use the modeling and composition tools to develop new variations of business processes to better suite the needs of your business.
    POC's = proof of concepts
    Hope that helps,

  • SAP Discovery system access to BI and EP

    Dear support,
We have setup our Discovery System and we’re trying to connect it to our DEV 4.7 system for the purpose of prototyping the use of BI and the Enterprise Portal.  We’re running into issues due to our lack of knowledge and SAP’s lack of good documentation in these areas.  We’re wondering if there’s any support help you can provide to establish the connections between these systems and get some of the packaged functionality activated?  Please let me know.
Is there any document provided to establish connection between Discovery system and BI system or any netweaver system
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

AJit, lots of points of learning here.
firstly, have you run through the basic excercises associated with the discovery system, including defining your own scenarios that you wish to test just using the components on the server?
I am sure you have already looked here but this is the jump off page to the discovery server assets.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/esadiscovery
As for connectivity from the DS to the 4.7 ERP, you should either be configuring your XI instance to manage the interaction, or web service enabling the BAPI you wish to interact with and calling it from the visual composer tooling on the server.
Also, you can raise a support ticket following the usual process if you have a specific issue or cnnectivity requirements on you 4.7 instance.
Finally, are you sure you want to use your backend erp and not the erp2005 deployed on the box?

  • Adding additional sld

    Hello,
we have 1 sld  - configured on the portal dev -
i would like to add additional sld - configure it on the portal production - all the production systems will be added to this sld, and all the qa and dev systems will remain on the sld opn the portal dev
what are the specific pahses in adding additional sld , updating it if neccasary, and moving the relevent systems
    Regards,
    Moshe

    Hi
The task could be done like this:
    1) Activate the SLD in the EP prod and configure post-processing accord. to SLD guide
    2) Ensure that the DEV-SLD and new PRD-SLD has the same CIM model version and SAP_CR version
    3) Export the content from DEV-SLD (export line ALL)
    4) Import this export into PRD-SLD
    5) Configure all production systems "SLD data provider" to send technical data to PRD-SLD
    6) Configure all production systems "SLD client role" to work with PRD-SLD
...now the DEV-SLD will only get technical data from the non-productions systems. If you want both SLD's to have a full view of alle systems then ALL systems could use PRD-SLD as target for their data suppliers and a sync from PRD-SLD to DEV-SLD can be set up... You maybe also need to supplement this strategy with manuel export/import of SLD content.

  • Adding additional components and installation path problem

    Howdy,
    Background:
In our organization we have 5 schools on 5 different locations and 5 seperated networks & AD-structures. We install our clients (over 2000 laptops) with the help of ghost images containing most of the necesary software, including Adobe CS3 Master Collection. However we dont include the complete suit since it's kinda large and we wanna keep the images as small as possible. for example Premiere is not included in the image. We use the same image for all 5 schools to keep it as simple as possible. The images are created on one of the schools (lets say school1) and distributed to the other sites ghost-servers. When creating the image CS3 is installed from a networkshare, \\school1server\applications  (mapped as p:), where the installation files recide.
    Problem:
A few students at school2 study film making so they need to install premiere. The installation files have been copied to their local fileserver: \\school2server\applications (maped to p: on tne local clients), and up until recently while still running win XP there hasn't been any problems running the setup file from the fileshare and add premiere to their installed components. However since we installed Vista the setup halts and asks the user to "insert a cd in \\school1server\applications"... So obviously there is a record somewhere on the client computer (registry, ini-file, xml-file or whatever) that still points to the original installation files, which isn't available to the local client. How can I get CS3 to just check for the installation files on the local server instead?
A long post for a simple question but I figured it's good to have as much info as possible...
    Anyone got any ideas?
    cheers

    Hi Jane,
the Discovery System comes with full permissions and root access. This includes that you can do whatever you like with it. Be it installation of additional applications or patching.
Obviously there is a certain responsibility with it. Having super-user permission will enable you to mess-up the system as well.

  • SAP GRC & Discovery Systems

We are a start up company focused on GRC solutions, and planning to have Discovery system for Experimenting, Internal training and working on different client scenarios before implementation at the thier site. regarding the same we have following doubts:
Can we do mock installation of GRC components in Discovery system for the purpose of internal training?
Can we use the Discovery system for demo/training to other parties?
    Regards,
    Krishna Mohan

The Discovery system comes preinstalled with GRC product like RAR (Compliance calibrator) but the version is the old one at 5.1, meaning you still need to upgrade it. it is a full fledge application in itself.
