Adding external RSS feeds

I have a forum as well as a main website. The forum generates its own RSS feed and I would like to add this to the home page of my website so I can display a box with the latest posts from my forum. I have seen many things on Google about creating your own RSS feeds from scratch but I can find anything about adding a remote RSS feed to a site in DW. Is this possible to do?

How are you running IPB right now?  Are you paying for a hosting package or do you have a license that you can install it anywhere?
If you are just running a forum through them without buying a license and you don't have PHP available to you with the rest of your hosting then that could be an issue.  The only other way it could be done is probably with Javascript or there may be a JQuery option to run it, but it will be coding the pages manually rather than going through DW.
Now with XAMPP if something did not uninstall properly, I would recommend downloading the installer package again, running it and then uninstalling it.  It really won't leave security holes on your machine unless you setup your firewalls to allow external access to your ports.  By default I believe XAMPP changes the port from the default of 80 to something else for the website.  Personally speaking I've used WAMP on Windows and MAMP on Mac.  I have not had much luck running the XAMPP packages for Windows or Mac myself.
To set up the test server, all you really need to do is select the server model.  The rest is if you have a testing server that you publish to before the site goes live, or local/network if you are testing locally on your computer, in which case the path would be the path to your defined site folder.  However, if you select None for Access, you won't be able to test the page before putting it on your website.
Lastly when you uploaded to your webserver did you upload all associated files to make this work?  That is the PHP document which is where you want the feed to go, the XSL document which contains the feed and formatting, and the "includes" folder that DW creates with an MM_XSLTransform folder and file.

  • External RSS feed through Omniportlet?

Just curious to know how to get an external RSS news feed to work properly through the Omniportlet in 10g. I've got the feed coming in and filtered properly, but the link that is created when the portlet displays includes the base portal url (i.e. http://whatever.com/pls/portal/http://actual.newsfeed.url).
In looking through the online help for the Omniportlet, it states that you need to pass a fully qualified URL for external data, but there isn't a way to pass a qualified URL dynamically. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work on external RSS feeds if you need to hardcode the URL.
Am I missing something, or was this an oversight/bug?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Kevin,
Here are the answers to your questions:-
What is involved with upgrading to Portal Tools 9.0.4.0.2?
You need to upgrade only PortalTools and not complete OracleAS Portal. But because there is a dependency of PortalTools on OracleAS Portal, you need to verify the Pre-requisites for upgrading to a specific version of Portaltools. But as you are already on OracleAS Portal 904, you will not have any issues upgrading to the latest PortalTools 90402.
Is this upgrading the portal application, some small collection of portlets, or what?<br>
Portal Tools is a collection of deployable OracleAS Portal tools built on Oracle's PDK-Java technology.
    This includes the following:
    i. WebClipping
    ii. OmniPortlet
Once you have deployed PortalTools, you can use the portlets contained within the pre-configured providers under the Portal Tools.
Isn't is possible to just upgrade the one portlet in OmniPortlet?
Upgrading to the latest PortalTools does not involve upgrading OracleAS Portal, it involves upgrading a set of Libraries and re-deploying the PortalTools application.
Please follow the complete document for Upgrading Portaltools, this document is available at <PortalTools_Unzip_Folder>\pdk\portalTools\upgrading.to.90402.html
    Hope this helps.
Please get back incase you have any further questions.
    Take care,
    Manoj

  • Best Way to Aggregate Multiple Announcement Apps and Possibly External RSS Feed

    Hello,
I have two separate announcement apps (one in sub-site A, and one is sub-site B). I am trying to create a webpart that will display content from both apps together.
I have tried to setup a CSWP and have been able to set the query to pull in the data (Although it shows expired announcements, which I would need to eliminate). Now, I am trying to customize the display of the CSWP, including the property mapping values
to display the announcement title (currently working with the URL as a link) and body (truncated like the announcement summary view if possible).
How can I get the body from the announcement to display? The 'body' field isn't listed as an option in the drop down list of mapping values. Do I need to toggle an option on the separate announcement apps, create a column, map a field, or some combination?
Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to add in an external RSS feed. Or, if there is a completely different way to approach and accomplish this, please let me know.
    Thank you

    Hi,
To display the “Body” field of Announcements list properly in Content Search Web Part, you can take a look at this blog about how to customize the display template for a good
    start:

If there are more complex needs in customization, the two links below would be helpful:

What did you try In Launchpad?
Hold the option key until the icons start to "jiggle"
Then you should see an X to delete an app.

  • Problem adding RSS feeds in Mail

After upgrading to SL, I'm having some issues with adding new RSS feeds in Mail.app. Some of the feeds are being added without any problem (e.g. http://rss.support.apple.com/macos) while others can't be added (e.g. http://images.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss): when I click "Subscribe in Mail" in Safari, the Mail.app window gains focus but no other (visible) action is performed; when I try to add this new feed directly in Mail.app, there's no reaction after the "Add RSS Feed" popup window is dismissed.
I've seen a lot of issues related to Mail.app in SL in this forum but I haven't found anything similar to this problem. Any hints on debugging/solving this issue?
    TIA for any answers.

OK, I now resolved this issue. I removed the ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index file, re-run Mail.app and after that I'm able to add all my feeds back to mail. I haven't tried that before so I'm not sure if it's a matter of the 10.6.1 update or just a solution to this issue.

  • How do I add RSS feeds into my website (created in Muse)?

Hi i am redoing a website for a client and previously the website was created in Wordpress (I pressume) and I am now working in Adobe Muse. Previsouly they had a simple text based RSS feed from various websites displayed in columns on their site. Now they want that again, but I am new to muse and website designing and need some help, I do not even know if my terminology is correct.
Maybe I should describe what I want: I want the headlines of posts from other independant sites to appear as a clickable link on my site with the date under it. and as new articles is posted on these outside websites, my "Interesting links" coloumn on my website must also update....
I hope I am making myself clear...
    thanks a mil

  • How to Export Mail RSS feeds to another reader

How do I go about exporting RSS feeds I have in Mail into another reader like NetNewsWire?
    Thanks.

    Hi Purple Cat,
Have you considered using New New Wire as a bridge between google reader and apple mail?
    1) download NetNewsWire
    2) configure NetNewsWire as default RSS reader
    3) open NetNewsWire
    4) Enable Assentive Devices
    5) run terminal command to add RSS feed to NetNewsWire
    6) verified correct feed to add in NewNewsWire
    7) synced with google reader.
    1) NetNewsWire download, put in applications folder.
2)open safari, go to safari menu, click preferences, when preferences open chose RSS. Set the pulldown menu default RSS reader to NetNewsWire
    3) open NetNewsWire, make sure it's open, with no dialog box being displayed.
    4) open system preferences, Click on Universal Access, check "enable access to assisted devices"
    4) Open terminal, paste in the fallowing command, then press return:
    IFS=$'\n';for i in $(find ~/Library/Mail/RSS/ -name "Info.plist");do open $(grep "<string>http://" $i | sed "s/.*\(http[^<]*\).*/\1/;s/http/feed/"); osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to keystroke return'; sleep 20; done; say done;
NOTE: while this command runs do not click on any thing. it will take about 20 seconds between adding each RSS feed. if your speakers are on and your volume loud enough, you should hear the computer say 'done' after adding all the RSS feeds.
    5) in NetNewsWire verify all the RSS are good to go, remove any you do not wish to add to google reader.
    6) when your sure your ok to have the feed in NetNewsWire added to google reader:
in netnewswire go to preferences, click on the syncing icon, put in your google user name and password, Click Merge Subscriptions button, Then check "sync with google reader.

  • Remote RSS Feed consumption - no route to host

Hi all, I tried to embed an external RSS feed but always get the error that Service SS_GET_PAGE and Function getRssFeedForUrl cannot be performed due to System Error : No route to host. I guess that the server needs a proxy setting in order to connect to the external proxy. I cannot figure out how to configure the content server to retrieve those external URLs. Is there a specific config file to set the proxy value or do I have to set the proper environment variable on Linux (that was my first guess but I did not succeed). Thanks for any hint.

That could mean one of two things: either the default route is not set on the host giving this error message or IP packets destined to the target host can not be routed due to network misconfiguration.

My popup menus were working OK until I added an RSS feed to

Perhaps, if you post a link to the page that doesn't work,
    someone can
show you how to fix it.

  • Iweb09 RSS Feed Widget - Time Problem

I have a problem with the RSS feed widget. I have setup a blog separate to iweb, and that is working fine. I added a RSS feed widget to my page linked to this blog. This feed works fine except that the posts are showing the wrong time. They are 8 hours behind.
I am based in the UK. My blog posts are all posted on UK time (I've checked the RSS page too), my regional settings are all UK. Is there any way to change the code of the RSS feed or something to get it to show UK time as apposed to US time?

    Hello,
I am experiencing a similar problem. I show my Twitter updates via RSS feeds to my iWeb09 site. I reside in the Eastern US timezone. But, when my web page updates my Twitter status, it displays as if I am Pacific Time (3 hours earlier). Does anyone know what causes this?

  • N8 RSS feeds stopped syncing

RSS feeds have stopped syncing, the address is fine.  I can send the RSS feeds to another N8 and they sync fine there.
Any ideas how to fix it?  I've tried adding new RSS feeds and they also don't sync
    Thanks.

Is it the RSS reader that is not updating when you clikc the button or is it the widget on the HOme screen that says "Unable to update" even when you press the orange refresh button?
My guess it is the latter.
    here are some options.
    1. You have set Widgets to off line.
    2. You have changed to some wifi network that you couldn't connect with then hit the refresh button... it will try to use the wifi link.
    3. YOu have chanced the schedule(?) to too infrequently...or set to manually...
    anyway give us more info...

  • Setting up RSS feeds in Mail for Tiger

I'm a network admin with most of my clients now running 10.5.6 and Apple Mail. We have a corporate wiki with RSS feeds that I've been beating the users over the head about to set up these feeds in Mail. All was going fine until one of the users who has escaped an update to 10.5 for various reasons and is still using 10.4 rang me to tell me she couldn't set up an RSS feed in her version of Mail (2.1.3). I've talked her through about 3 different methods (pushing it in from Safari using bookmarks, pushing it in from Safari using a custom link on the feed page and pulling it in directly from Mail, none of which work (there's no File/Add RSS Feeds option in Mail for 10.4)).
Could someone let me know please how you go about adding an RSS feed to Mail v2.1.3?
    Thanks in advance.

Ah, well, that's that idea out the window then. Upgrade time for her. Thanks very much.

  • How to get rss feeds onto the Journe Air 801 via the external memory card?

I've bought the Journe Air 801 digital photo frame and the manual says "save the rss feed of the album you wish to display in the .rss format and add to the external memory card" but it doesn't say how you create this .rss file or copy it onto your memory card. does anyone know how i can get a picasa rss feed into this format?
I've successfully added a picasa feed manually in the frame but as picasa only updates the rss feed if new galleries are added, not new photos, the photo feed is not updating on the frame so I'd like to alter the rss address.
    Thanks

    Hi guys,
i will use this thread now also to document my contacts with the toshiba support hotline:
    Early December
I called the hotline the first time and told the support guy (#1) the problem.
He promised to look into this and that he would call me back.
I did not get an incident number.
He called me back the same day and told me, they don't have an air 801 to test, just an air 1000.
The air 1000 has a different menu and does support rss without any problems.
He said, he will try to to find an air 801 and get back at me.
    A week later
Since there was no response I called again and got a different guy.
I told my story again and the support guy #2 promised to ask support guy #1 when #1 is back in office.
He promised to send me an email and include the incident number.
    December 11th
I got an email from #2 saying that he could not find my original request. He did not include the incidient number, although that was promised.
He promised me again that he will get in touch with #1 and ask him for information.
    December 18th
I sent #2 a mail asking for current status.
    December 28th
I called hotline again and had to wait really long (the prerecorded message at the beginning informed me that support staff was hit by a flu).
So I told support guy #3 my story and this time insisted on a incident number and got one. Unsurprisingly #3 could not find my first two requests.
He promised me to hand this to level 3 support and somebody will get back to me, but probably not within this week. I told him I hope for a response within the next four weeks...
So let's see what will happen next.
Maybe you guys could get in touch with toshiba support in your countries, I have the feeling that this increases the chance of getting a "correct" answer.
    Cheers,
    Kai
