Adding Images to a new AVI File

Hi,
I need to create an AVI video with various images. I don't have much ram so I have to write each image I have to the video file, any Ideas in how to do this the easy and short way? This is my code:
for(int i=0;i<numFrames;i++)
Image theFrame = //Here I get the frame from a video
addToVideo(theFrame)
Any Ideas on how the addToVideo method should be? (the frame is the ith frame)

Thank you for reminding me that I can search. Unfortunately all the solutions upload all the frames to memory. I want to add each frame to the actual file and when the final frame comes up, close the file so I can play it.

  • QT Pro Skips when playing new AVI files!

I'm having some trouble with my QT Pro 7.0.4-
It hasn't given me any trouble until I got this newest version.
The last two new AVI files I tried to play skip like a CD, both in audio and video, like it can't keep up with itself. It renders the clips unwatchable =(.
I tried playing AVIs that I had played before I got the new version and they play fine! Additionally, the two files that failed to play correctly are from two different sources.
Any ideas? Is it a file problem? A codec problem? A QT problem? Is my computer just tired. ?=(
Thanks for your help in advance!

What codec is used in the AVI files? AVI is just a container format, so it may be that the particular codec (DivX, 3ivx, etc.) being used needs to be updated.

  • Saving a series of images (from a smart camera) into an AVI file

    Hello,
I have a lab setup in which we view brain cell deflections in a well-plate after being pressurized with air for 50ms. I have a smart camera hooked up to an IMAQ PCI card to acquire images.
I'm trying to save the series of images into an avi file, so that I can view the deflections in a slow video.
The way I have it set up at the moment takes an image and saves it in an avi pre-existing (some random .avi that I didn't need) format. But here are some problems:
    1. I would like for the VI to create a NEW .avi, rather than saving it into a pre-existing one.
    2. Right now, each image simply overwrites the previous one in the avi file. So the resulting avi is a 00:00 length movie with a single image (the last frame that camera viewed).
I have what I have programmed attached. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is an updated version (attached). I kept trying to incorporate the examples you showed me, and I have made a little bit of a progress.
It now saves a new avi file, and it's not a single image movie anymore. It's got as many images as I run the VI for. BUT, it only saves the very first image the camera takes and just loops it over and over again until I press stop. So the resulting avi shows a still image of the very first view of the camera for however long I ran the VI for.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thank you,

  • Avi file does not have the same resolution as image file?

I'm using LabView with an IEEE-1394 camera and I set up the camera to record at a resolution of 1280 x 960 and can snap images and save them at that resolution from Measurement and Automation Explorer, but when I record avis using LabView, they have a resolution of 720 x 480 even though the images being written to the avi are 1280 x 960. I have had this same problem trying to make new videos from the original in which I extract a part of the image and write it to a new avi file... even though the extracted image is something like 620 x 300, when I play the avi (or get avi info), it says the avi has resolution of 720 x 480. I've tried creating an IMAQ, then using the set image size sub-VI to set the image to the size I want and the image shows up with the right resolution but the resulting avi has the wrong resolution, so my sub-videos are distorted. Is there some way to set the resolution of the avi other than by writing an image of that resolution? I'm using the compression filter DV Video Encoder... would that make any difference?
    Thanks!
    Kelly

    Hey Kelly,
As far as the different codecs that are available, it all depends on what type of filter you want to use. They vary so widely that it is hard to say that one is better than another. Also, it depends on what type of compression that you want to use will also determine which codec you will want. Some use lossy compression and some use lossless compression. With lossy, you will lose some data when it compresses, but lossless will not. Lossless on the other hand will produce large data files, as it can only compress a certain amount without losing data.
One thing that you might want to consider is using some of the Vision functions to track changes in pixel values from one image to the next. There are a lot of different processing that you can do on your images before you store them to file by using the NI Vision functions. Other than that, you might have to just play around with the different codecs to find which one will work best for you.
Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks, and have a great day.
    Regards,
    DJ L.

  • Delete or insert frames in an AVI file

    Hello,
Is there any way to insert or delete frames in an aVI video, without copying the part you want in another file ?
    Thank you.

I don't think this is possible. The only way I know to do it is to read the images from one AVI file and write the ones you want to a new AVI file.

  • CS4 Windows problems: crash very often, stuck when import certain avi files

The followling problems are in CS4 (newer updated) Windows (Windows XP SP3):
I am using Premiere Pro in CS4 and the program crashes so often (it crashes more than 10 times in one afternoon). It usually starts when I place clip, photoshop file, or other assets to sequence. If it starts leave a lot of frames while I pull the asset (there will be the same frame over the path my mouse went), it is a signal to crash soon. After it restarts, it usually loses the last saved information (even I saved the project way before it crashes). I do not know whether other users see the similar behavior.
The second problem does not look like only for CS4. It happens in CS3 too. When I place an AVI file (not sure whether other format behaves the same), the import program will stuck in the end (while it shows "generate peaks from xxx.avi"). It will take forever and I never successfully finish importing the file. I worked around and realized it only happens to the avi files I captured from Movie maker (use Auto capture option). The avi file can be played in Windows Media player. If I use Movie maker to cut the end of the avi file, the new avi file can be imported to Premiere without any problem. It seems the last few frames in the captured avi file has problem so the import subfunction will stuck there. I am not sure whether this is the case. If it is, the program should be "SMART" enough to go on or ignore the bad frames.
    Any idea?

Thanks, Harm. This brings to another problem I had. While I am using PR to capture DV from my two mini-DV cameras, sometimes it just generates a lot flicks or "snow" in the avi files. But with Movie Maker, the same tape will not have such problem. This is why I am using Movie maker to capture the movie since it is accessible beside PR. It seems the PR problem is only for the last few frames so I just cut the last few frames off. I do not know why PR cannot just generate an Error message to UI so we will not just wait there for hours. I did some programming to control many instruments and I understand I cannot project every problem the program will encount, but at least I can generate an error message to tell the user where the problem is. Is this the fundmental guideline for programmers? If PR does like the format, let us know when it reads. It is very frustrated while you wait there hours and hours without any idea why it stucks!

  • Generate AVI files. Convert in AVI from MOV. QUICKTIME PRO??

    Hi,
First of all, I'd like to ask you an apology if my problem has been solved in another post, but I couldn't find it.
I have an AVI file and I’d like to add the subs (srt file) My idea was to open the AVI file with a program, to add the file and finally to generate a new AVI file with the subs included.
I had the wrong idea that with Quicktime I could make that, but after several intentions I have realized that I haven’t the Quicktime Pro, what I have is Quicktime X and with this version is not possible to generate an AVI file the way I need.
I have read a few posts about the differences between Quicktime 7 Pro and Quicktime X, and before thinking in buy the Quicktime 7 Pro license, I want to know if it will make what I want.
I also need to convert a MOV file into an AVI file or another smaller which I could share by email. I prefer AVI format because all users (MAC & WINDOWS) can play it.
I am not sure if the Quicktime 7 Pro is the better solution for me. Maybe you know another program which I can get what I need.
Thank you in advance, best regards.
    FJT

If you are also running the 3ivX codec module and the movie is a DivX AVI, then you you may need to run the file through 3ivX's DivX Doctor II. This utility updates DivX .avi videos to 3ivX QT (.mov) videos. (This assumes other files still play correctly with audio.)
    http://www.3ivx.com/divxdoctor/
"After the conversion you will be able to play the video smoothly, and the audio glitches inherent in the AVI format will be fixed" -- according to the 3ivX site.

  • Looking for a codec to use AVI files on Windows 8

Thanks for you assistance. My new computer using Windows 8 doesn't take a shine to me using AVI files in Adobe Premiere. Prompts me to install a codec. Pretty sure there are a ga'zillion out there. Any suggestions on which is right? And one step further, how to properly install? Best regards!

@ATRomano - First, thank you for your reply. I've been trying to correct this problem since purchasing the new computer in Dec, and this is effecting my livelihood.
    Here's a what I know.
Downloaded Adobe Premiere 11 from Amazon in June 2013 onto my Sony Vaio laptop running on Windows 7. the AVI files from my Fujifilm Finepix 4500S camera were accepted. The AVI files are titled DSCF0217.AVI. for example.
Computer crashed on T-day, so forced to buy new one. Also a Vaio, this time running on Windows 8. AVI files from my Fugifilm Finepix 4500S no longer work. Says I need a codec.
Went to Best Buy. They spent two hours on it, nothing. There solution since the AVI files worked on Windows Media player, was to start uses Sony Vaio's editing software the comes with the computer, really?
Then all of a sudden, the program is gone. Completely removed from my computer. All the projects and video/pics in elements included.
So last night I redownloaded the software from Amazon. Thank goodness they kept the serial number.
Surprisingly, the projects are still there, though when I open them most of the files in the timeline are AVI and appear as "Media Offline."
When I try to add new AVI files to the time I receive this error message - "This type of file is not supports, or requires a codec to be installed."

  • Can´t play avi files

I used to play AVI files on my Mac and Mac Book Pro but recently anything change that I can't play the same or new AVI files. I used to play it on Power Point presentations but right now I can't play with Quick Time. I can do it with VLC and also in other new Mac Book Pro with the same OS (10.8). What happen, anybody knows?

Finally I found the problem. It was related to the DivX soft. My new .AVI files doesn't play (neither Quick Time nor embedded in Power Point presentations) because any conflict with DivX. When I uninstalling the program all my .AVI files returned to play normally.

  • Using .AVI files in FCP

Hi (this is my first posting),
I have hard drives (XP) full of AVI files that I must use in FCP. When I import them Final Cut says that these files "are not optimized for FCP" and should be recaptured or to use Media Manager to copy.
I'm new to FCP so when I copied in Media Manager - I don't know what happened. I was assuming I'd get a .MOV somewhere?
Do I need to get the original tape and re-capture on my Mac? The video doesn't look degraded and I produced a video ignoring this message with no problems. Now we're going to move to HD.
Is there a way to recapture an AVI from a hard drive, do I need to? What am I doing wrong (besides capturing to .AVI on XP system). Help .....
Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Final Cut Studio

I'm having the same problem, with hours and hours of AVI files that I want to sort through and can't recapture. I am trying to use Media Manager -- I choose recompress, and pick my destination, but it only creates more AVI files, not MOV files, and I can't figure out why?
When I try to import these new AVI files into my project, I get the same optimization warning... what am I doing wrong? (using FCP 5.1.4)

  • Quicktime upgrade stopped avi files playing.

    Hi everyone.
Having upgraded to Quicktime 7.1.2, I've noticed certain types of AVI files have stopped working - as in, Quicktime "quits unexpectedly".
Has anyone else experienced this or managed to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi, shropshire_massiv.
Are these AVI files that previously opened in QuickTime or new AVI files?
AVI files are strange animals. It is a "container" format, but the actual CODECs used for the audio and video can vary widely and a file still be considered AVI. When QuickTime cannot play an AVI file, it is usually because of one of the CODECs in which the audio or video is encoded is not one supported by QuickTime.
For complete information about viewing AVIs and DivX files on Mac OS X, including converting such to QuickTime, see my "Playing AVIs and DivX Files" FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • Can I write a AVI file adding images (BufferedImages) of one in one?

Hi!! I show some point clouds in Java3D, then I get the BufferedImages of each scene, but I want to make a AVI file of the following way:
    1)I make (ans I show it) a scene 3D.
2)I get a BufferedImage of this scene.
3)I use a JMF processor to add this bufferedImage to the file .AVI.
    4) I return to the step 1).
    Regards!

If you were using OSX 10.7 then you could go back to a previous version, but you have overwritten the file.

  • Write/read image to avi file, VI works incorrectly from the second run

Hi everybody, in my labview I write image from IMAQ USB to avi file and read image from avi file, the VI runs correctly at the first run then after that it goes wrong, I can write/read only one frame and it terminates automatically. Does anybody know why and how to solve this?
    Thanks a lot,
    Hannah

Without seeing your code I can't comment specifically, but if it runs correctly the first time and then stops be looking for something that is not getting reinitialized correctly. Also what exactly do you have to do to get it to work again? Close and reopen the VI? Restart LV? Restart the computer?

  • When exporting files to web pages Aperture keeping losing files, so for instance, if I choose to export 600 images to a new web page, it might do 524 images but not the full 600. I've tried resetting Aperture, it's the latest version etc etc. Help please!

If anyone can help me with this I would be seriously grateful.
When exporting mutliple files to web pages Aperture keeping losing files, so for instance, if I choose to export 600 images to a new web page, it might make 524 pages but not the full 600. I've tried resetting Aperture and its persmission and am using the latest version of 3.
I have 3600 images which I need to upload as sublfolders, each with their own URL and at the moment Aperture is dropping of anything from 1 to 90 images.
This is critical as people need to see each and every on of these images online. So if a file has 600 photos in it, Aperture should make a URL with 600 full image pages. And this is what it's not doing. On small files, say 30 or so it seems to work well, it's when it gets to more than that the problem starts.
I've used Aperture in the past under previous versions and not had this problem.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.
    Bob.

    Hi Jack,
Thanks for responding (as it seems as though no one else has been able to provide any insight as of yet)! Not sure if you saw my recent post, but the version of Aperture on the 2008 MacBook has been upgraded to 3.1.2 (not sure how; I bought it in 2009, but only have OS X 10.5.8... which apparently can't house 3.1.2 of Aperture, but hey, like many other anomalies i'm encountering, I'm no longer surprised!). I am unable to upgrade it any further, as it warns me that my OS X does not fit the requirements. I exported the projects as libraries; however, like I posted before, apparently these are from too old of a version for the new Aperture (3.3.1) to handle and import.
It's getting to the point where I'd almost pay to upgrade the OS X on my previous MacBook (10.5.8) to something newer in order to THEN update Aperture to a newer version; however, my previous MacBook simply cannot handle this (the specs are awful -- hence my decision to save up and upgrade to the newest MBP with Retina).
I've spent hours upon hours transferring files, libraries as projects, previews, versions, even masters (though, apparently some of them aren't accessible?) with no luck. I've rebuilt the library and reprocessed everything. And this is all after having to return one MBP already since Aperture 3.3.1 is glitch-y as it is, and froze everything for having a "managed library". So, now that I know that I have to deal with a referenced library in Aperture... I just need to actually transfer my previous library to my new one (hopefully WITH adjustments since these are years worth of photos and work).
Again, any help is appreciated. I've lost enough sleep, time, and vision health over this at this point.
Also, I know Migration Assistant is an option, I was told that it wouldn't work properly anyway because of the different operating systems, and the potential for problems.
