Adding memory and CPUs dynamically to a VM

Hi,
Does anyone know if these features are available with the existing release or will be available in future ones?
Thanks

Hi,
just note to be able to add memory, you have to start with high memory first and then decrease it.

  • X58 Pro-E - Added memory and having problems.

    Good evening.
    My original setup was:
MSI X58 Pro-E, running V8.14 BIOS (think it's listed as 8.E on MSI site)
    i7 920
    6GB (3x2GB) of A-Data DDR3 1333 (Part number HY63I1B16)
    eVGA GTX  285
    Win 7 64bit Ultimate
I tried to find the exact brand/model of memory to add, but was unable.  I ended up buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211451
I installed the memory and BIOS saw it all.  Windows started up fine, reports 12GB, but the 2nd night after installing the memory, I got a bluescreen.  I went ahead and ran memtest86, which reported several errors.
I took quick pic of memtest86 showing several errors here:
Before I RMA the memory, I wanted to make sure it isn't a configuration issue, rather than just bad memory.
Here's a pic of the memory tab from CPU-Z:
SPD tab (slot #1 "old" memory):
SPD tab (slot #2 "new" memory):
And here's a pic from SIW's memory tab:
What do you think?  Bad memory or configuration issue?  Thanks for your time.

The mixed config is not ideal. You may want to try however to set it all manually in the BIOS and see if you are able to get it to work.
    Disable XMP in the BIOS.
Set your mem ratio so that your mem speed is at 1066. Set your timings manually to 9.9.9.25 or 8.8.8.22 and test.

  • Adding memory and upgrading to Leopard on PowerBook G4

I have a PowerBook G4 with OS X Panther and am considering upgrading to Leopard. Installing Leopard requires at least 512MB of memory and I only have 256MB. I've read that PB's can be picky with the type of memory installed and I'm looking for advice on making an informed purchase.
According to my manual the maximum I can have is 1.25GB and it says I need PC2700 DDR 266 type RAM. I also read somewhere on Apple that my PB requires PC100 type RAM, so which is it, or can it actually take either one? And are the GHz a crucial factor in determining what type I need? How do I find out the GHz I have on my computer?
Also, does anyone think upgrading this computer (it's 5 years old) is worth it? It only has 23GB of space left which I know Leopard will use a lot of just to install. Would it also be worthwhile to add more hard drive space (I'm considering an external hard drive to store photos and documents to save space), or in the long run will I be better of getting a newer mac? Physically my PB is in great shape and it still looks brand new, it's just outdated, but I don't want to put a lot of money into it if it's not worth while for long term use.
Thanks for any help you can give and sorry if these questions have been answered already. I wasn't having any luck finding specific info on this.

If your PowerBook is the 867 Mhz model or 1 Ghz model it will take "a single 200-pin PC2100 DDR SDRAM SO-DIMM memory module.". If it is anything greater it will take "a single 200-pin PC2700 DDR SDRAM SO-DIMM memory module."
You can find what processor you have by clicking the Apple logo on the top left hand corner of the screen and clicking "About this mac"
Basically, 1 GB stick plus 256 mb soldered memory = 1.25 GB Max.
Is it worth it? Well, since you probably can't buy a new laptop for anything close to a Leopard/RAM upgrade I'd say it is worth it. But if you are considering RAM+External HDD+Leopard you could be well onto your way into the price range of a second hand Intel Laptop, any of which would be significantly faster than your PowerBook.

  • Adding Memory and Hard drive

I have an original MacBook Pro, running 2.33 GHz with 2 GB Ram and 160 GB hard drive. I am looking to add memory and I was wondering if anyone knows how much my book is upgradable to. And I was also wondering if it's possible to put a bigger hard drive in. When I look at Apple memory, my MacBook Pro isn't even listed. Thanks.

You can get some idea of the "level of ease/difficulty" involved in replacing the HD from http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Core-2-Duo/Hard-Drive-Replac ement/115/10/Page-1 or http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Manuals/15-inch-macbook-pro-manual.pdf
It is certainly harder than with a MacBook, or with the very latest model of MBP, but it is not too bad. Certainly easier than with an iBook or some of the PowerBooks , for example, as long as you proceed carefuly and cautiously, keep track of where the screws came from and *use the right tools*.

  • FlashPlayerPlugin_12_0_0_77.exe*32 Hogs memory and CPUs.

Firefox at 369,616 K FlashPlayerPlugin at 1,550,628 K and 51% CPU. Firefox extremely sluggish. This has been happening for about 6 months with very new release of Flash and Firefox. Makes Firefox unusable. Fix this or people will start to move to google chrome or IE

  • Adding memory and CPU to Exchange

I have a 2-node DAG with exchange 2010 SP3, each node has 4 Core and 12 GB of physical memory. These physical boxes can handle 32 cores and 128 GB of memory each. What happens if we allocate too much resources to exchange ? Any documentation
of the maximum supported resources for exchange 2010 if any?

    Hi Mike,
As far as I know, Exchange server do not limit the maximum support for the amount of CPU and memory. However this limit always relate on system architectures and motherboard, because Exchange server run on Windows server and it also require hardware support.

  • Added memory and iMac got slower!!

Ok guys, along with the external HD (see other post) I bought a 512MB memory card for my iMac G4 800. It's a PC100 SODIMM card and the system profile recognizes it just fine.
Now, when I opened Photoshop, I noticed that regular tasks are now taking longer! Just to activate a layer, for example, you can see it struggling to draw the **** thing! I didn't noticed it before... Could it be the memory? Maybe I should have bought the PC133? My bus speed is 100MHz, that's why I bought the PC100.
Well, let me know your thoughts.
    Cheers
    JS

The iMac G4 800MHz needs PC133 RAM. PC100 is too slow for the memory bus. This article (link) explains.

  • Changed my DVD player, added memory and itunes stopped working...

I'm frustrated. I recently added a DVD player to my PC and itunes stopped working properly. It gave me a "Warning: Registry settings used by itunes devices for importing & burning cd & DVD are missing by installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.".
I uninstalled and installed itunes again using the control panel and I get the EXACT same warning after reboot! Does anyone have a clue as to the problem?
I go to play song in my library and it passes over my selection down the library of many new albums that I installed, and stops on the older album installs and plays only those albums. Very frustrating that they offer no itunes software support.

It gave me a "Warning: Registry settings used by itunes devices for importing & burning cd & DVD are missing by installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.".
In this context it's almost certainly a device filter conflict in the Registry. The following document would be the best place to turn next:
[iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372]

  • I recently added memory and a new hd to my mini.

Inserted snow leopard disk. it won't boot or eject the disk.

the new hard drive has a different named location on ur computer. If it was on Drive C before, it's probably on Drive D (check by going into MyComputer and navigating around the available Hard Disk Drives). Once you find the location of your music, open iTunes, Edit, Preferences, Advanced, and click the Change button by the folder address box. Good luck

  • Dynamic Memory and Data Deduplication

    Hi,
I'm currently testing W2K12 Deduplication feature on some servers, and I was wondering if I could enable "Dynamic Memory" on the VM in Hyper-V? Because the job only uses percentage of memory for the dedup job, I guess it's not possible.
    Thanks in advance!

I know it old thread, but I ran into this and could not find anything on it but here, so I am adding my experience.
    I can concur with 3magroup...
In my environment Windows Server 2012 with Dynamic Memory and Deduplication enabled, the HyperV does not release the driver locked ram for the dedup optimization. What resulted was an insane amount of paging and a painfully slow VM. Increasing the memory
buffer for the dynamic memory did not cause the HyperV to release the memory for the dedup. Instead, it still "driver locked" nearly all of the ram, which did not make sense to me based on my understanding of the Memory Buffer setting.
I can verify the VM poor performance and dedup using the paging file with the Resource Monitor, disk section, and the Driver locked RAM with RamMap.

  • I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new Ipome and Ipad.  and Ipad. Now I'm told I need to upgrade my operating system. The apple store gave me conflicting instructions. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new IPhone and Ipad. Now I'm told at the apple store that I need to upgrade my operationg system. They said they couldn't help and gave me conflicting advice about what to do. Any ideas? Thanks you!

There are three models of MacBook that comprise the 'macbook 4.1' category, and each of them a little different; however other than 'macbook 4.1' the other thing they have in common is they all are considered Early 2008. Two are white, one black, polycarbonate case, Core2Duo 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz white, 2.4GHz black.
So if you can determine which one, if any of these, is the model build year and spec you have, that would be handy. Did you tell whoever you spoke to the serial number of your computer, so they'd know by looking up the specs to see what the supported maximum RAM upgrade capacity was, and other minimum requirements to make any upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 at all?
If you have the serial number you can do a lookup to 'indentify by serial number' online, and use that information to determine if the computer needs even more RAM to take it past the minimum for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then get it ready to upgrade (via paid download from App Store, Snow Leopard gets you that far) and see what the next supported OS X full upgrade would be for the hardware limitations on that old MacBook.
If your MacBook IS a 4.1 build, the highest OS X it could run if it has the 2.4GHz cpu, is Lion 10.7.5. That would be an upgrade from the App store, available to OS X 10.6.8+ computers that access it online. And I kind of doubt how supported a newest iphone etc may be in lion.
everymac.com has a fair amount of information across many years of Apple computing hardware...
Here's the three MacBooks that share the 4.1 designation; first shipped with as much as 1GB RAM upgrade and the other two only a 2GB RAM*, (one white/one black color) according to this information...
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.1 13" (White-08) 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8100)
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (White-08) 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8300)
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (Black-08) 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8300)
    ...as seen here: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/index-macbook.html
*But according to MacTracker (free: download database) http://mactracker.ca
these MacBooks can use more RAM in aftermarket specs as much as:
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
To get more information use a service such as this...
    •identify by serial number:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
The Apple? store or whoever you talked, to may have been as accurate as they could be without further research. Could be you may have a newer or older MacBook, which would change whatever later OS X it could run past 10.6.8. And to go past Snow Leopard, you need to download the last bits for 10.6.x to be able to go and get any later upgrade. The ones that may let a newest iphone or ipad work with it, are past SL10.6.8
Anyway, as you further verify the model build year and configuration specifications, report back.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I added memory to my MacBook Pro (now 4gb) and upgraded to Lion. Now my iphone 4 won't sync-gets stuck at stage 7 of 8 on importing photos. My iphoto is'09 version 8.1.2

I recently added memory to my MacBook Pro so I could upgrade to Lion and use the cloud for my contact list. It's been a bit of a mess, since I use Entourage as my email program.  The REAL problem I'm having now is that my iPhone 4 now won't sync.  iTunes "quits unexpectedly" at stage 7 (of 8) in the syncing process, where it says it's importing photos.  My iPhoto is '09, version 8.1.2   Is this not compatible with Lion?

I have the same problem. I'm suspecting a corrupt photo, but the logs don't give me a clue. Or maybe this version of iTunes needs some further tuning.

  • Upgrade to 10.4.11 (from 10.3) & adding memory.

I was wondering if anyone could/can help. I recently upgraded my OS and added memory to my woefully out of date G4. For some reason I now cannot see an external harddrive (firewire) nor can I see my Ibot webcam. When I go to my Hardwear Overview and click on Firewire: nothing appears.
    Here's my system info:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G4
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,5
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 1.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.3.3f2
Is it possible that the upgrade/additional screwed up my firewire capabilities? If yes, what do I do to fix it?
    Here's hoping someone can help.

  • Laserjet 6p added memory unknown???

I have a 6P and it has an installed memory card on one of the 3 available memory slots.I can not tell what the size of the memory card is and called the manufacturer who said that its model number is no longer available in their database. I held down the printer button and got the LaserJet 6P printed page but it says "PLC6 MEt Memory Enhancement technology 2 mbytes".   I believe that is the internal installed memory and doesn't include the added memory card. Is there anyway I can determine the size of this added memory card? Also, when I print PDF files, it takes a very long time for each page to print...maybe a minute per page. If I switch to Raster, then the pages print normally.  Any ideas on this issue as it only happens with PDF files that I have to print. Win7 Ultimate  64bit. using the Win7 print driver for HP LaserJet 6p.

Thanks for the additional info. As far as being confused...the only two options I have in the graphic mode is HP_GL/2 or Raster so I don't know why they are on my LaserJet if they are not suppose to be.I'm not sure what driver I am using...when I print out the test page it says PCL6 so I guess that is the driver installed. There is no other place that tells me that I can find.  When I go to HP support there doesn't appear to be a way to get PCL5 as it refers me to Windows for printer drivers on my model.I guess I'll just have to remember to switch to Raster each time I do a PDF file. Thanks for all your help.
