Adding red to underwater footage?

I'm going to use a GoPro Hero 2 on an upcoming scuba dive and will need to add some red to it because the video is going to have a blue/green tint to it since the camera does not have a red filter.
What is the easiest way to add red to the video? And, after adding the red, do you just eyeball it to determine how much to add or is there some measurement tool for doing this?
Thanks.

1.) If I have to do it in FCP, is it difficult to get a good balance of red back into the video with the 3-way color corrector?
2.) Would bringing a white card down with me and using this to select with the white balance tool automatically add the red back, or does it not work that way?
Thanks.

Project pane greys out after adding either HD movie footage or a photo' into iMovie '08. Since using a HD camcorder, quite often, after adding either HD movie footage or a photo', the project pane greys out. I have to exit the project and re-enter to continue viewing the project; this is tiresome. Any thoughts or is this yet another iMovie '08 bug?

every app as a preference list, which can get corrupted.
    quit iM
look in user/Library/Preferences for a file called com.apple.iMovie(x).plist (x stands for any number) ....
    trash that.
    restart iMovie..
it doesn't hurt your projects nor does it touch any files.. it just 'resets' an app.. => slapp on backhead.. as I like to call it..
yes, hardware is nice, as long as you don't dare to handle AVCHD .. that is on Intel Mac only..

  • Red Flashes in footage

    Hello All,
I'm having an issue where footage has completely random frames that are completely solid red.  I was working with raw MXF wrapped files that are 1080p from a sony F5 so I thought it I might need to transcode.  So I transcoded everything to Pro Res 422 (LT).  The flashes are still there but in different places in the clip.  The frames that were competely red are now fine but other frames in the clip are now solid red.  Upon re-transcoding the exact same clips the red frame are always in different seemingly random places in the clip.  Ranging from 1-5 flashes per clip for all my footage.  I imagine I'm dealing with some form of corrruption here but the frames that are lost or corrupted should theoretically be consistent right?  How could frames that are lost magically reappear upon re-transcoding?  I'm a bit stumped.  The raws are stored in DMG's. This a problem prevelent throughout the footage not just one card.  (There are 5 dmg's from 5 transfers from SxS cards.  Not sure how many cards were used on set.  Help is much appreciated.  I was transcoding in Media Encoder.   Premiere CC 2014 8.0.0   Thanks.

I've had this problem too on a PC using AVCHD video.   I tried transcoding it in Prelude, which helped but I still had one instance of it happening.  I don't recall this ever happening until recently.
I have 2 cameras, a Panasonic HMC150 and an AF100.  I've got the red-frame problem twice and both times it was with the af100 shooting in interlaced mode (its never happened in progressive.  Might be a coinsidence, don't know for sure.

  • As of last patch, CR is adding red pixels... why?

As of this week's patch I am now seeing red pixel blotches in highlight areas.
These areas were not red prior to the patch and nothing else has changed on my system.
This seems to be some kind of highlight warning. I can save my pic to jpg or other formats and the red is not present. I can reduce the highlights and the red areas deminish with reduction.
Adobe, if this is some sort of warning thing you added, GET RID OF IT!

Do you have the show highlight clipping enabled?
Do the red areas go away if you press O on the keyboard?

  • AME adding frames upon P2 footage conversion

I currently use AME to convert raw P2 footage into a more manageable .mov file type. As I am archiving old Premiere Pro files, I am going back and replacing the P2 footage with the new converted .mov footage (to shrink down project file size). Occasionally and on a random basis, the converted .mov files will have extra frames added to the front end. It will be anywhere between 2 & 20 frames. (Usually this is done by folders- for example if I have a folder named cat video, all clips in that folder will have 10 frames added at the front end while the dog video folder clips might have 15 frames added.) This adds time to my archiving as instead of just replacing the footage in P. Pro, I have to import the new footage, find out where the cuts are supposed to be at and then put the .mov file into the sequence before delete the raw P2 file. Is there a reason AME adds frames at random?

If you are trying to export and maintain the same quality you have in the timeline then you don't need to use conversion. Just export to Quick Time Movie and check the box for Use Current Settings and Make Self Contained.

  • Red Camera 6k Footage System Requirements

    Hello All,
I am helping out a friend edit a 30 second spot and have never worked with Red 6k footage before and want to make sure my iMac can handle the footage.
I have 16 GB of Ram, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB and 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. Will this do the trick or will it be more trouble then what its worth?
    Thanks
    J

It's hard to say for sure without trying it since performance (especially for things like playing 4k Red files) can be a finicky thing.
But the specs look as good or better all around on the new macbook, especially for the display card, so I suspect you'll see some significant performance gains. Also your thunderbolt drive will be faster from that end (that's less of a factor though).

  • RED RAW 4k footage not scaling in SG

    Hi Folks,
Wondering if anyone has seen an issue within SpeedGrade CC whereby RED RAW material isn't showing / scaling 100% of the image within a timeline?
I.e. we can only see a centre portion of the image, the original sequence in Premiere was 2k.
    Any help appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Ken

    Thanks Fran,
Our grader is currently on the PC so I can't get a grab, but what's happening is simply that 4k / 5k RED RAW images are being cropped, so we only see about half the image from the centre out. This is a 2k timeline.
In Premiere, you can set 'Scale image to frame size' so as to see the entire image, but this option doesn't appear to be available in SpeedGrade.
The PC is a dual 8 core 3.1Ghz with 64Gig ram, 1Tb solid state drive, Sonnet Fusion SAS 24Tb main drive.
    Thanks

  • How to injest RED ONE camera footage in FCP?

    Hi there,
I have downloaded the necessary drivers from the RED website and I am expecting to receive the files from the director off of his hard drive this week.
What should I be expecting in terms of files for an offline edit? Is there a link or process to view the steps to inject into FCP?
    Thanks!
    Steven

I am a whatever works for you guy...but at the same time I think it's important to consider once you are working with Red or 10bit source PRHQ may be your friend.
    RED FCP Whitepaper:
Method 1: Transcoding to ProRes 422
You may choose to transcode R3D media to ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (HQ) compressed QuickTime files. ProRes 422 is suitable for creating lower-quality files for offline editing, but ProRes 422 (HQ) is recommended for higher-quality mastering. You can set this up by opening the Log and Transfer window’s Import Preferences dialog.
    • ProRes 422 (HQ) – Suitable for ingest and mastering of high-quality chroma- subsampled/YʼCbCr color space media for high definition broadcast masters.
    • ProRes 422 – Suitable for ingest and mastering of high-quality chroma-subsampled/ YʼCbCr color space media for standard definition broadcast masters, or good-quality mastering at HD resolutions.
This workflow describes transcoding your REDCODE media to 2K resolution Apple ProRes clips, and then mastering using Apple ProRes.
    • Advantage — This is a straightforward workflow with no reconforming necessary. Editing using the Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec is simple and efficient, especially for programs that are destined for output to a YʼCbCr-based tape format.

  • Underwater Photos: Anyone use Ilife for adding back red colors?

I use Ilife for my organizing my underwater photos. Often they are not truly representative because of the loss of red. Some programs have filters that are designed specifically for underwater corrections. Does anyone know of one that will work with Ilife.
    Thanks so much.
    Skip

Photoshop or Photoshop Elements has tools for color corrections. You can set the white point and have all color in the photo adjusted based on that white point. Or shift the colors yourself by adding red, reducing blue, etc. until you get the look you want. I just don't know of an automatic Underwater correction.
    Regards.

  • What kind of Sequence do I create for an edit involving RED Scarlet and Mark 3 DSLR Footage?

I'm trying to cut together a video made up of both Red Scarlet Camera footage (R3D) and Mark 3 DSLR Camera footage (H.264 Quicktime Movie), and my question is what kind of Sequence should I create to put both of these type of footage on and should I change the footage in any way?  Could I also possibly add MPEG 4 files to this sequence as well?
Any help you could give me on the matter would be appreciated.

You can mix and match any footage into the same sequence with no penalty, and no transcoding.
Ideally, you'd create a sequence that matches the resolution of the smallest footage you have, scale the higher resolutions down, and then output to the sequence resolution.
However, that might not be what you need, depending on what your output resolution needs to be.
If your required output resolution is higher than the smallest resolution footage, then you should create a sequence at the output resolution, and possibly use After Effects to upscale your lower res footage using the wonderful Detail Preserving Upscale effect. This will maximize your footage quality.

  • Can I import Red Dragon footage into After Effects?

I keep getting the error that the format might be unsupported, but I thought that Dragon support was part of CC?

    > " I thought that Dragon support was part of CC"
Where have you seen that for After Effects CC? I can't find any public mention of that, except in discussions of what's coming in a future version due out soon. Premiere Pro CC (7.1) added RED Dragon import, but camera formats very often start in Premiere Pro and then get integrated into After Effects next.

  • Exporting C100 footage from an edited timeline proving impossible help!!!!

The Canon C100 I now know shoots in a formate called PsF which is a type of interlaced that is but isn't interlaced? Yes I'm kind of confused.  Anyway Premiere reads the footage I shot as 1080i and 29.97fps though I shot it at 1080p and 23.976.  Yes I've talked to Canon Cinema EOS tech support team about this and they say they have no answers that it depends on the NLE I am using. I'm using Premiere CC on a Macbook Pro Retina, 15" fully loaded.
I decided to edit a timeline that Adobe chooses when adding the footage to it automatically. I export and I keep getting the error message. "Unknown error" HELP!!!

I tried it both ways, I was on the phone with an Adobe rep who took control of my computer. We were on the phone for two hours while we tried different things. Here's what we found out. The mercury playback engine doesn't like the C100 footage. You can take Red Epic 6k footage and edit without a hitch with a macbook pro retina 15" but not the C100. I turned the renderer to "software only" and it took 10 times as long but it exported.  So for this particular project that's what I'll have to do.  As for Clipwrapped footage, it doesn't matter, Mercury hates it.  So it's time for Premiere to address the C100 directly. NOT AVCHD assuming that AVCHD is the same across the board because it isn't.  This whole PsF flavor of it is a pain to work with in any NLE. Anyway I'll keep researching. Thanks

  • Limitations of editing interlaced footage

I have a program timeline full of Red and P2 footage in both 29.97fps and 23.97fps for a program that needs to be delivered in 1080i. I have been advised to bring all of my footage up to 29.97i by adding 3:2 pulldown in AE.I was told that AME does not do a good job of adding the pulldown. I would then edit this interlaced footage to a final in Premiere.
It was also said that "I would then be subject to all of the limitations of editing interlaced footage."
I don't know what that means. Can anybody help?

Ask your question on the Premiere Pro/ AME/ AE forums, resepctively. No point whatsoever posting it here. This forum only deals with general suite issues and pre-sales questions.

  • Red 4k/Premiere CC 2014 Rendering Error

    Hello,
So this has been an issue that has been plaguing me ever since I started working with Red Epic Dragon footage. (6k raw)
The native footage is 6k, but my sequence is 4k. So I just scale to fit. I have no issues editing the footage, or even previewing it in premiere. Even with effects applied, I'm able to watch it perfectly at 1/8 resolution, which is fine with me.
The only issue comes when I go to render out anything. I always get one out of a few error messages, and then it crashes. This has happened with every project I have done that involves the Red footage, so I don't think I have a corrupt project or whatnot. One example seen below.
Or, sometimes it just gives me the 'Premiere CC can't continue, sorry' error, and crashes.
I have tried this on two different computers, yielding the same results.
    Specs on Computer 1 (Desktop)-
    Alienware 17r / Windows 7 / Intel Core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60Ghz / Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 / 16GB RAM
    Specs on Computer 2 (Laptop)- Alienware 15 / Windows 7 / Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.20GHz / Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M (4gb) / 15GB Ram
This is frustrating because my laptop has such a powerful graphics card, and the effects I have applied are just basic RGB Curves, nothing that would require MASSIVE amounts of GPU.
Things I have tried so far, to no success.
    Update drivers to latest version
    Downgrade to older drivers
Upgrade PP CC 2014 to latest version
Try rendering in PP CC (not 2014)
Turn off/on 'Mercury Playback GPU Acceleration'
    Clean cache
Bring entire sequence into a new sequence, and re-render
Bring entire sequence in AE Linked Comp, and render
Remove all the effects off the clips
If anyone has any tips or advice, it would be much appreciated. It's so frustrating because I have finished client video's that I need to show, but I can't.

    A little more info:
This seems particularly likely to happen when I open a sequence on the timeline that has more than 5 audio tracks.
I'm using OS Mavericks 10.9.5. Video footage is .R3D. I have the crash report if that helps.

  • Red/Orange/Green indicators for ios 6 maps?

I just updated to ios 6. Every morning I check my maps app to see how the traffic looks for a couple of routes I can take to work. This morning, with ios 6, there was no information. It seems it only shows when its red. This is completely frusting because I know that both these routes can have slow "orange" patches every morning. Will they be adding red/orange/green indicators to ios 6 maps?!
