Adding to subscribed calendars/Posting titles without notes

Okay, so my hubbie and I both use iCal religiously and subscribe to each others calendars but there is a kink. I have a calendar called "Rob" (his name obviously) and I regularly add things like dr's appointments for him to it, he subscribes to it but cannot add things to it for instance work meetings that I need to know about. So he too has a "Rob" calendar that I subscribe to. Its getting ridiculous having two versions of the same calendar. Why cant you add to a subscribed calendar? Logically you would think we could have one "Rob" calendar among us and the other person be able to add to it. I have this same problem with employees who cant add vacation requests to the work calender. And further more, on the topic of work calendars, why cant you publish titles without notes? UGH!
I would love advice on how to make these things happen.

Have you considered having your husband "own" the "Rob" calendar and you own one named "Susan" (substitute real name here, of course). Both of you subscribe to the other's calendar so that all events, appointments, etc appear on both your computers. Unless there is a problem with you entering his appointments on your calendar, that should take care of your "syncing" issue.
As for your employees, I don't know for sure if you can do this, but how about a calendar in a public account that they can all log into as "Jane Smith" or "John Public" - whatever the username is on the account - and then make requests there. Publish that calendar the then you and/or your husband could supposedly see all of that as well. You can use the check box next to that calendar's name to show/hide it so it doesn't clutter up the rest of your calendar. As I said, I don't know if that will either work or solve your problem - just thought I'd throw it out there.
And I'm trying to find some solution to the titles-without-notes matter too. Some of my notes are six or eight paragraphs or more long, and today I just need a list of events and not all that other supporting info. I'm hoping that there's some third-party utility out there that can do this - I'll let you know if I find anything.

  • Subscribed calendars appear on iMac, not on IOS devices

I subscribe to two sports calendars.  The data appear perfectly on my iMac but no longer on my IOS devices.  Each of the subscribed calendars is check-marked and appears under iCloud calendars in Calendar on the iMac.  Previously they synced fine to the IOS devices via iCloud but no longer.  I have tried turning off Calendar in System Preferences>iCloud, then turning it back on.  No change.  Any idea how to fix this?  Thanks.

I finally got it to work.
Here are the steps I took.
    1. On your Mac, make sure all calendars are stored on icloud.
         http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5029
    2. On your iDevices, go to Settings - > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Here you will see your main account that accesses mail, contacts, bookmarks, etc.
Any other accounts will access mail only.
    3. Scroll to bottom of list - > Add account - > Other
    4. choose Calendars - > add CalDAV Account
    5. Enter Server name
(if an iCloud account, just put me.com.  This is where I was stumped for awhile)
Enter user name, password, and description. This creates a new calendar.
    6. On your iDevices, go to Settings - > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Check to see if indeed you have another account that is Calendars, Reminders
    7. On your iDevices, go to Calendar app
        Show Calendars (a list)
    8. On the main calendar, clear checkmark from previously subscribed calendar.
(this eliminates viewing duplicates and entries that do not update)
    9. On the next calendar below (in the list), put a checkmark next to your new one.
Remove other checkmarks in the list from ones you do not want.
The calendars should now update automatically.
        (My iPad updated almost immediately.
My iPhone took longer but did do it eventually.
You can always check iCloud storage to force refreshing sooner.)

  • Publishing iCal Titles but Not Notes

Hi all, I'm working with iCal 08, I've successfully published my iCal to my business website (via MobileMe), and thus far I can only publish titles and notes together, but I want to publish titles WITHOUT notes... I've talked to the great people at tech support and currently there is no way to do this on their end without an upgrade (which I've sent to feedback already), but the rep I spoke with suggested that there might be third party software out there that may help... anyone have any knowledge of such software?
    Thanks!

So I've moved on from this focus, as Google Calendar and iCal have opened up their software further.

Windows Explorer will display tag properties for mp3 & wma files, not aac (m4a) or wav. It is possible for mp3 files to contain multiple tags but only one will be displayed. Try inspecting the problem fils with a third party tag editor to see if you can tell what is going on. For mp3 files, provided all the details that you want the file to have are displayed in iTunes, you can try using the right-click option Convert ID3 Tag > None a few times followed by Convert ID3 Tag > ID3v2.3 which may well help.

  • ICal Crashes after adding Subscribed Calendar (google)

As soon as I add a subscribed Google calendar, iCal becomes problematic. Doesn't matter if I add it manually or by using a link. As soon as I turn off the subscribed calendar, iCal starts working flawlessly. Any ideas on how to fix?
    Closed/Launched iCal
Removed/Added subscribed calendar (both manually and via link)
    Rebooted several times
Happens whether on 4G or WiFi
Happens with all options in iCloud enabled/disabled
    Grrrrrrrr!!!!!
    iPad 3 64GB, iOS 5.1.1, Verizon 4G

I looked on Google support as suggested by Eric, but this pointed me back to the Apple support forums where I came across this thread which I hadn't seen before.
Like other thread on the subject it had a lot of suggestions that didn't look helpful. However after reading through the various posts I tried the following.
    1. I went off-line from the intranet, and that meant that I could actually open iCal to update my password within iCal. However when you go back online you still get errors and therefore have to go through steps 2 & 3 for a complete solution.
    2. I then made sure all my Google related passwords within Keychain were correct using Keychain Access
    3. I then ran Keychain First Aid from within Keychain Access
Once I had done all those things I was able to get back into iCal without any errors.

  • Adding Categories to a subscribed calendar

I have my schedule for university added to iCal as a subscribed calendar.
I am now wondering if it is possible to set up categories for each subject. so that all XY subjects are highlighted blue, all AB subject yellow, etc.
Anyone any ideas how to do that?
    THANKS a lot!!

It's not possible in Calendar. I don't know if there are any add-ons that might provide that functionality.
Or, take a look at an alternative Calendar app.

  • Subscribing calendar events without using impersonate or delgae access

    Hi,
Is there any way to subscribe calender/mailbox event for each outlook user without using impersonate or delegate access approch.
if yes, please share how it can be done, as i found only impersonate approach or delegate acess.
if no, please share the best possible solution to subscribe calendar events for each outlook user.
I am new to exchange server developement, so do not know much.
    Thanks
    Nitin

It depends what you mean by subscribe calender/mailbox event ?
For you to access a mailboxes calendar folder using any exchange API you need to have rights to it so you will need to either use Impersonation or Delegate access. You can modify the default ACL on the Calendar folder which give Everyone access eg
http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/29939-change-default-outlook-calendar-access-permissions-in-exchange-2010 . To access a folder you have rights to you just use the Mailbox overload of the folderId class
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg274408(v=exchg.80).aspx
The other way of veiwing limited calendar information is to use the GetUserAvailability operation
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/hh532567(v=exchg.80).aspx with this you can view calendar event details (if this permission is shared to you)
    Cheers

  • Why is a subscribed calendar not updating in Calendar on iPhone?

There is a subscribed calendar I control which I use regularly in Calendar (iCal). When I make changes to the source of the calendar on the web, the changes to the subscribed calendar are very quickly update in Calendar on my MacBook, which I appreciate. However, this does not successfully occur in Calendar on my iPhone. I have been trying to figure out off-and-on for a couple weeks why it doesn't update in Calendar for iPhone. I have spent no less than ½-hour working on it, via trying to edit the calendar, look at settings, double-check which calendars are showing to make sure it's the correct one, etc., etc., and I cannot figure it out. Why are changes to a subscribed calendar showing up successfully in Calendar on Mac but not in Calendar on iPhone?

    Hey xcwomac.
I did some research and found this:

It worked out just fine for me, hope it helps you.

  • Using iCal with Google Calendars: can view subscribed calendars, but not add to them

Something recently happened to my google calendars causing them to all disappear from Google. Anyway, that mystery remains.
I am currently trying to re set up iCal to sync with Google Calendars and things aren't working quite right.
In iCal, I've done Calendar>Subscribe and entered the URL for that particular Google calendar. This has been completed for the 5 separate Google calendars I have and they show up in the list of subscribed calendars.
However, if I attempt to create a new event, the only calendar choice I have is for the main GMail calendar, not any of the subscribed "sub calendars".
In Preferences>Account, If I select Google and then go to the "delegation"tab, there is a message that states "You can't see delegation settings when this account is offline."
    Can anyone offer some advice?
    Thanks.

That's the part I always forget how to do. See if this answers your question:
To select which calendars to sync to your Apple device, follow these steps:
Open the Safari browser on your device and go to http://m.google.com/sync
Sign in with your account and select your device from the list of devices you've set up for Google Sync.
    It's from this site: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=139206

  • My subscribed calendar does not display in today view in iOS7. Does anyone know how to make it show up?

I have a subscribed calendar on my iPhone. The today view in notification center shows that I have an event at xxxx and tomorrow view says I have x events but the calendar day view does not display any of the events. I need this so I can easily see which rooms my events are in. Dows anyone know how to make the subscribed calendar show up in calendar day view?

Interesting. May have uncovered a bug. It seems that limited duration events will display, but all day events wont on mine. (iPhone 5). Does that compare to what you are seeing (unfortunately, I have nothing in a subscribed calendar until the week end, so difficult to check. I do seem to recall seeing an event from one this past week end on the iPad, however).

  • Why do my Outlook subscribed calendars not show up on my PC iCloud calendar?

Why don't my Outlook subscribed calendars (holidays, LHMUG meetings) show up on my PC iCloud calendar? They are on Outlook, but don't carry over?

iCloud is a CalDav subscription server, you subscribe to its calendars, it does not subscribe to yours unfortunately.
So move your calendars from Outlooks local folders to the iCloud account.

  • Subscribed calendars "Show Calendar On MobileMe" not available

Anyone know why the "Show Calendar On MobileMe" option is available on some webcal://ical.me.com based subscribed calendars but not others?
For example, in my iCal, two subscribed calendars originating from the same MobileMe user (URL webcal://ical.me.com/{username}/{calendarName}.ics) allow the "Show Calendar On MobileMe" option. Yet another subscribed calendar originating from another MobileMe user (URL webcal://ical.me.com/{anotherUsername}/{anotherCalendarName}.ics), does not offer the "Show Calendar On MobileMe" option.
Am running MacOS 10.5.8 (iCal 3.0.8). I, too, have a MobileMe account, btw.
    Thanks for any help!

I seem to be having the same problem with repeated appointments:
I have an appointment with a start date of Tue 2nd Sept and an end date of Wed 3rd (created on iphone).
On mobileme.com it appears on Thursday 4th as well.
The appointment appears correctly in iCal (synced through mobileme, not iTunes).
Looks like a bug to me.
