Adding up columns

When adding columns I click the SUM formula which adds up the whole column.
Can anyone tell me how to add up only certain rows in the same column?
I can do this in Excel by inserting a blank row and then SUM. This adds up the numbers
between the blank rows.
This method does not work in Numbers, is there a way??

I don't quite know what your talking about in Excel, Do you mean that your break your list halfway (arbitrary location) by inseting a row, and then do a sum below? that works in excel because of the way it determines the area to automatically use for lists. when it hits a blank row, it thinks you are the top/bottom/left/right of your 'table' or 'list'. And adds up the amount up to the 'top' of your 'list'.
In numbers each table is in reality its own table, not a bunch of tables sharing one sheet. so that logic doesn't carry over. If you really need some way of adding up certain numbers, you can use a sumif command, giving it the values to use for both comparison and the range ti sum if the comparison range evaluates to true.
In theory you could have one table with the row numbers to use for your sum, then the actual sum equation builds its range definition from those cells using the ADDRESS function (page 203 in the Numbers Manual Available Here). this will give you a really neat way of adding up any range you want within a list, without having to modify the equation, add or delete extra rows etc...
Hope this helps some,
Jason

    I have the following:-

    I opened the enterprisewiki.aspx page layout using the SP designer, to add the newly added site column to it.
    But I have noted that to add any site column I need to know the field name , for example the default wiki category column is referenced inside the page layout as follow:-
    <Taxonomy:TaxonomyFieldControl FieldName="Wiki_x0020_Page_x0020_Categories" EmptyValueDescriptionForTargetTemplate="<%$Resources:cms,enterwiki_nocategories_assigned%>" DisableInputFieldLabel="true" runat="server"/>

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,
    The “FieldName” should be the internal name of the column, you will find it at the address bar at the “Site Columns”->”Edit Column” page:

  • Adding new column to production database

    I have to add a new timestamp column, that defaults to the current date/time, to an existing production database. The table is large - 150M records. I am trying to understand the ramifications of adding a new column to a table this large that gets hit often, mostly with inserts and reads. The column does allow null values and I am not going back and populating existing records with a value. Basically, I am looking for some best practice guidelines - how to prepare, what to expect, what other processes should be followed along with this schema update.

And according to documentation for %ROWTYPE - "If columns are later added to or dropped from the table, your code can keep working without changes." Can you point me to Oracle documentation that describes your concern in detail? Thanks.you can test it yourself

    SQL> you should also consider the chance that some where if people are using "select * into" using this table, which will fail since you added new column. i don't see any unusual performance bottlenecks by adding a new column. in case of the backups, yes the earlier backups will not have the column. if you restore it, you will see earlier table structure itself. i have one specific question. why are you not attempting this in development/test environment first? even if it is a simple insert, it's always important to do it in test environments before attempting on production db. one thing for sure i know is, after adding column, you will have to recompile all the invalid dependencies. i think, it's better if you attempt it in test db and come up with any issues you see rather than asking a general question where problematic scenarios are plenty and rarely unknown before hand.

    Hi CUONGNV0207,
    According to your description, you get this error when processing cube. Right?
    As the error message mentioned, a table based on a named query cannot contain computed columns. If you create a computed column in this table, it will throw this error. In this scenario, please go to the DSV and check if that table is set up with named query.
    You can replace it with a DimTable in your database.

  • Retain field order on form when adding/deleting columns

    If I move my html around to change the layout of the fields on an AddForm.aspx and then I start adding and deleting columns, the ordering of the ff## changes and I can have problems.
    Its fine if I've only added new columns...what I've done is create an AddForm1.aspx to get the fresh ff##'s at the end of the list.  I copy them over to my AddForm.aspx
    If I add and delete columns, then I can have problems.
    The ff## may be renumbered when making an AddForm1.aspx and copying the new fields might create an error because of dupe ff##'s.
    If I use AddForm1.aspx,  I lose my layout of the fields on my form AddForm.aspx.
    I have been successful finding the ordering of the columns on AddForm1 and renumbering on AddForm.
    But this is pain and error-prone.
    What do people do to get around this dilema?
    thx

  • Auto-adjust references when adding rows/columns

    If I recall correctly, it was the behavior of Appleworks that if you added, say, column B, making the old column B into column C, all references to B throughout were automatically changed to C. This does not happen in Numbers. Is there any way to make this the default behavior or a different command to add rows/columns that causes references to automatically be adjusted accordingly?

    OK, this is going to make me sound really stupid, but I actually was so confused and tired that I meant the exact opposite of what I said. I was making a ledger-type spreadsheet keeping a running balance, and I wanted cells in the balance column to continue referring to the cell directly above them rather than to one absolute cell that used to be directly above them. That's how it works in Appleworks. I think.

  • Filter for custom added site columns using rest

    Hi everybody,
    I'm trying to filter a REST Response by a custom added site column.
    when i'm using the endpoint lists() with /Items the filter works great:
    site/_api/Web/Lists(guid'805e17b0-2728-4b30-a889-a7e8f025696b')/items?$filter=astringcolumn%20eq%20%27dfg%20-----------------------------%27
    but when I'm trying to filter using
    site/_api/Web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/sites/DennisDevSite/alib')/Files?$filter=astringcolumn%20eq%20%27dfg%20-----------------------------%27
    I get a response that states Field or property "astringcolumn" does not exist.
    event if I add &$select=astringcolumn&$expand=astringcolumn to the url the same error is returned
    Why does the first work and the second does not?
    Thx in advance
    Dennis
    P.S.: sorry: I also posted this question in the sharepoint 2013 apps forums. but I think it's better to post it here

    Hi Dennis,
    Steve as mentioned the reason this happens. You may try any of the following workarounds:
    Get the files using Files Rest endpoint and then perform the filteration in the success handler based on the custom column. The Rest query needs to include ListItemAllFields. Example: site/_api/Web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/sites/DennisDevSite/alib')Files?$expand=ListItemAllFields
    Note that you cannot use filter in the Url.
    The other option is to use CAML Query Payload, but that can only be used with getitems REST endpoint. However, this will return the ListItem corresponding to the file. It wont be a file object. Example:
    function getListItems(viewXml)
    var url = "http://aissp2013/_api/web/lists/getbytitle('Management Documents')/getitems";
    var queryPayload = {
    'query' : {
    '__metadata': { 'type': 'SP.CamlQuery' },
    'ViewXml' : viewXml,
    'FolderServerRelativeUrl': '/ManagementDocuments/F1'
    return $.ajax({
    url: url,
    method: "POST",
    data: JSON.stringify(queryPayload),
    headers: {
    "X-RequestDigest": $("#__REQUESTDIGEST").val(),
    "Accept": "application/json; odata=verbose",
    "content-type": "application/json; odata=verbose"
    var query = "<View><Query><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Location' /><Value Type='Text'>Srinagar</Value></Eq></Where></Query></View>";
    getListItems(query)
    .done(function(data)
    console.log(data);
    .fail(
    function(error){
    console.log('Error');
    Still, the other option is to use old fashioned ListData.svc. It will allow filter in the url and will also return some file properties like Name, approval status, version etc along with all custom properties. Example:
    http://aissp2013/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/ManagementDocuments/?$filter=Path eq '/ManagementDocuments/F1' and Location eq 'Srinagar'

  • Adding a column to a DB table with CMP entities

    Morning all.
    I've been asked whether adding a column to a database table will break the CMP entity bean (EJB2) associated with the table. I suspect that it won't and that the new field will be ignored. Another developer here says that it will no longer compile (I can't see how this could be the case but still...) and I can find no evidence to either refute or corroborate either position.
    Can anyone tell me for definite - if we add a column to a database table mapped to a CMP entity bean, will we HAVE to update the bean, or can we leave it ignorant of the new column?
    (For the purposes of the question, please assume that the column has no constraints i.e. can be null etc.)
    Thanks in advance
    -- kaideejee
    Message was edited by kaideejee : CMB entities? What are they? Typo fix.

    Well alterations(adding / removing a column) to the
    table should be made available to the bean
    irrespective of the persistance(CMP OR BMP) or normal
    bean with your own methods that depicts the
    behaviour.
    reason is simple: probably bean may/may not contain
    the corresponding setter or getter or finder methods
    related to the ALTERED TABLE(NEW COLUMN)The reason for what is simple? Sorry I may have missed your point there. Are you saying that it's correct practice to make it available to the bean, or that it will be made available behind the scenes, subject to getters/setters being created?
    Assuming we choose not to create these getters and setters (we have a horrible hybrid monster which uses stored procedures for some things and EJB for others, so it's feasible that the EJB end may not need to see some fields used by other parts) would the entity beans continue to play nicely with the database rows, or would the additional columns throw it completely?
    Cheers

  • SSIS 2005 Adding a Column to an existing Package

    Hello Forum
    forgive me but it 's been over 5 years since I touched SSIS.
    We have an SSIS package that compiles data and then exports the data to a MS Ecxel Spreadsheet.  We are struggling to add an existing column.
    Essentially the package reads data from source, performs a "Data Conversion" so that the Output Columns are named "Output of Field1" etc and then the data is exported to the Excel Spreadsheet.
    The developer has succeeded in adding the column to the Data conversion and has manually added the column in the Spreadsheet; however although the converted column appears in the Column Mappings, the corresponding destination Column in the Spreadsheet does
    not.
    Can someone please provide instructions on how we can achieve this?  Many thanks.
    Please click "Mark As Answer" if my post helped. Tony C.

    You have to re-configure whole data-flow task inside your package, where ever your new column effected in package.

  • Adding blank column in Oracel Answers OBIEE

    Good morning.
    I am attempting to add a 3 blank columns in OBIEE and then adding a formula to one of the blank columns to do a simple math calculation between 3 other columns. I used "CAST(Null as double)" in my column formula to make it a blank column and not pulll data from the field column that I added.
    This is what I have so far:
    Column1 formula = "Cast (Null as double)"
    Column2 formula = "Cast (Null as double)"
    Column3 formula = "Cast (Null as double)"
    Column4 formula = data already included from the column that I added.
    This is what i'm trying to do:
    Column3 = (Column4 - Column1 + Column2) <----- In excel I would do something like "=D4-E4+F4" (example)
    When I do my SUM function in OBIEE and try to add the columns, it pulls in "Cast(Null as double)" and not the actual column name that I custom edited.
    Any help would be appreciate on how to add a blank column and add a simple calculation formula to calculate data from the blank columns once I export my report to excel.
    Thank you,
    Edited by: 970040 on Nov 7, 2012 8:24 AM

    Thats correct. When I export the report I want to see blank values in the columns. so when I enter data into those blank fields on my excel spreadsheet, I want the totals column to calculate according to my formula specified. My issue is when I specify a null value in my columns in OBIEE, im unable to put a formula to calculate the values in my other columns.
    This is what I have so far in OBIEE:
    Column1 formula = "Cast (Null as double)"
    Column2 formula = "Cast (Null as double)"
    Column3 formula = "Cast (Null as double)"
    Column4 formula = data already included from the column that I added with values.
    This is what I’m trying to do:
    Column3 = (Column4 - Column1 + Column2) <----- In excel I would do something like "=D4-E4+F4" (example)
    How can I add a value to my column so that when I export it to excel, the column fields will have the formula already included such as "=D4-E4+F4" and also each row formula corresponding to the correct Row Number.
