Address Book/.mac

Hi,
I was directed here by someone on the .mac forums. I've been having problems with syncing my address book at work with the one on my home Mac. The conclusion I have come to is that the problem may be caused by the address book on my home computer.
I have been using .mac to sync my calendar and address book for quite a while, but recently discovered that any new address book entries made at work were not appearing on my address book at home. I have checked my .mac account and the sync between that and my office computer seems to be working fine. The calendar syncs fine, so I am assuming that there is an error occuring when I try to bring down my address book info to my computer at home.
What I am looking for is instructions on uninstalling/resetting the address book to get rid of any damaged files. Is this possible?
Thanks
Jack

You can correct the issue simply by performing a reset of your synchronization data from your home computer. To do so, do this…
• open the System Preferences application and press the .Mac pane
• press the Advanced tab and wait for the dialog to list your synchronized computers
• press the Reset Sync Data button in the lower left corner
• from the Replace: drop-down menu, select Contacts
• press the left facing arrow beneath the display so that data will flow from .Mac to your home computer
• press the Replace button to transfer a copy of the contact on .Mac to your home computer

  • I cannot sync my MacBook Pro address book (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) with my iPad that has iCloud. Please help.

I cannot sync my MacBook Pro address book (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) with my iPad, that has iCloud. I can get my music and photos to sync, but not my address book or calendar. I have tried turning off iCloud, but that does not work. Please help.

You may install Snow Leopard OS, maximize the RAM to 8 GB and install a larger HDD, or spend a lot of money and install a SSD.

  • Address Book + .Mac Family Plan

On my laptop I have one address book - my family uses my laptop. When I go to sync - everything including my kids friends are sync into my address book. It's odd when you scroll through and see Bobby's name. I'm considering signing up for .Mac Family Plan. I already have an individual account which I planned to let run out. If I get a family plan - wife, kids me - how does that work? Do we each have our own address book online? And if so, can my son have his own address book on the desktop - so when he sinks his stuff as I do - everything stay seperate. In other words 4 .mac accounts online and 4 address books on the desktop. One for each person? Please help....

O c'mon somebody must have a thought, idea or solution.

  • How to sync iPhone's Facebook integrated contacts to Address Book (Mac)?

    Hello Apple Support Communities!
I have a question regarding the Facebook integrated contact entries in iOS6. Is there any way of syncing them onto the Mac's "Address Book" or iCloud?
Seeing as how they contained a lot of information, I copied all the numbers and addresses onto these Facebook contacts and deleted the ones I originally had. But when I synced them onto the computer, only the ones that weren't linked to Facebook stayed in the address book and iCloud.
Perhaps there is an app that allows me to export the contacts on my iPhone and onto the Mac?
    Thank you in advance!

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it can't sync that iPhone.
If it's an Intel Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.

  • E71: Sending SMS from Address Book (Mac OS 10.4.11...

Is anyone using an E71 with a Mac?
It is supposedly possible to send an SMS from within Mac's Address Book, but I can't successfully do this despite the two gadgets having been paired and the Bluetooth icon appearing in the Address Book top bar.
    Do I need a plug-in or something?
    Thanks.

I don't think it's possible. I have the iSync plugin from Nokia (http://www.nokia.com.au/A4630409) and that's just for syncing your contacts between your E71 and Address Book as well as your calendar events. As for the feature you're looking for regrettably that's not available.

  • HT2486 Searching doesn't work in Address Book (Mac OS X Lion), can someone help?

I've repeatedly tried resetting Spotlight and deleting AddressBook-v22.abcddb, to no avail.
What happens is I type a name in the text search box and get absolutely no response.
    Help?

    Back up all data.
In Address Book, select File ▹ Export... ▹ Address Book Archive... and save the archive to your Desktop.
If you use iCloud, disable contact synchronization in the iCloud preference pane. When prompted, select Delete From Mac. Re-enable synchronization. Wait for the contacts to re-synchronize, then test.
If you don't use iCloud, or if the contacts fail to synchronize, delete all contacts from Address Book, then select File ▹ Import... and import the archive you created. It may take a few seconds for the contacts to be indexed. Test.
If you don't like the results of this procedure, quit Address Book. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Restore the folder that opens from the backup you made before you started.

  • Address Book, .Mac syncing, multiple users, groups, oh my!

So, I'm currently syncing my Address Book on my PowerBook to .Mac, and my wife's iMac is synced to that Address Book as well. She's currently been adding groups and contacts, some of which have overlapped with mine. I don't want these new ones.
I'd like to still be able to share my Address Book (I know I can do this somehow). I also have a WebDAV server which I use for iCal, but I don't think the Address Book uses this, and then delete her contacts (I'll have to just pick through carefully) off of my Address Book. I know I could set up a .Mac account for her as well, but this would be the only feature she'd be using, if she even knows that .
What are some steps to accomplish this (I know I can at least disable her syncing)? A great step-by-step would be so appreciated.
    Thanks.

    No one, huh?

  • HT2486 My address book only displays e-mails. How can I sync it with my i-phone to display the address book the same way as my contacts in my i-phone?

Currently my address book only displays e-mail addresses. It uses the portion of the address in front of the @ as the name. How can I sync it with my i-phone 4S that has name/numbers and addresses of my contacts?

    Hello there, Seta.
You are correct that this can be done with iCloud. The following Knowledge Base article provides some great instruction for syncing contacts:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
    Particularly:
    Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes
You can sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes with other applications on your computer. This allows you to keep all your information in sync across multiple computers and iOS devices. The settings for these items are all in the Info tab for your iOS device in iTunes. With your iOS device connected to the computer, select your iOS device. Then click the Info tab.
For details on syncing content on your iOS device with your computer, click the sections below.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Contacts" in OS X v10.8, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" in OS X v10.7 and earlier.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
Address Book (Mac OS X v10.7 and earlier)
    Contacts (Mac OS X v10.8)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • IPod/Address Book Syncing

I sync my iPod/Address Book/.Mac contacts, and have noticed duplicates in my iPod.
How can I go into the iPod and delete the duplicates?
I thought I could do that...at least I thought I did it in the past.
    I appreciate your response.
    iMac/PowerMac4.2/PowerPC G4 (2.1)   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Fortunately, I was able to restore my Address Book using time machine. AFAIK, Until this is resolved, you have to do a complete replace from the Mac Address Book, rather than a two way sync. Bummer.

  • Adding contacts to address book from old phone

How do I transfer all my contacts information to my new phone   IPhone from Samsung Eternity?  All from AT&T

You export your contacts from your Samsung phone (talk to AT&T if you don't know how) to a program on your computer like Outlook (Windows) or Address Book (Mac) and then synch your iPhone to your computer using iTunes.

  • How do I move my IMac Address Book to my IPad?

    I have two related questions.
First, how do I move/sync my IMac Address Book (Mac OSX -- 10.6.8/Snow Leopard) to my IPad?
Second, once that is accomplished, will the contacts and distribution lists be usable in sending email messages from my IPad?
    Thanks.
    Dan

I know nothing about the iPad, but the question comes down to:
    a) what can the iPad mail application or address book import?
    b) which of the answers to (a) can Thunderbird generate?
Thunderbird can generate LDIF and CSV files, and with a suitable add-on, vCard files. How would you physically load these into the iPad, even if they were compatible? Is wifi or bluetooth a viable transfer medium between the two devices?
Can the iPad synchronize with any external contacts system, such as Google Contacts?
This [https://support.apple.com/kb/PH11586 article] suggests that some Apple products can work with CSV, LDIF and vCard data.
I suspect that the most likely approach that will work is to send vCards as email attachments from Thunderbird, and to open and accept the vCards on the iPad.
    You will need this add-on:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
    to generate vCards in Thunderbird.

  • IPhone sync to Address Book - Name vs Company

If you have a contact in your Address Book (Mac) noted by selecting "Company" versus the default which is the person's name associated with that company, does that entry appear on the iPhone contact list under the company name or the person's name when you perform a sync? No one at Apple Tech was really sure and I want to know before I buy.
I know you can not select "Company" if you are entering the contact via the iPhone. HOWEVER, I found a 'work around' for that issue. On your iPhone, if you first enter the company name and press "Done" and then select the contact in the contact list and select "Edit", at that point you can enter a persons name and it will continue to show in the contact list under the "Company" name even though you now have a name associated with it. If you enter both "Company" and "Name" at the same time and press Done, it will display only the Name in the contact list.

    My apologies:
When you add the "Company" name and person's name (on your "Address Book" on your MAC).. there's that lil' box to check that says "Company"..right? Ok..make sure you check that box. Once you sync it will show as the Company name on your contact list. When you select it.. it will show both the Company and person's name at the top. I just tried it and that's how it showed. The icon on the left will show "the buildings" as oppose to a "head" lol. (until you assign it a pic)...

  • My computer has been infected with a Trojan Horse.  It has completely taken over my Mac email account and was sending out malicious email to everyone in my address book.  At the same time it infected my iPhone---I am no longer able to receive or send emai

My computer has been infected by a Trojan Horse.  It has taken over my Mac email account and began sending out malicious emails to everyone in my address book.  I cleared out my MAC address book and began using my AOL email account. It took a few days and then my AOL email account was infected and has now been send out malicious email to all my contacts for over a month.  It has also infected my iPhone--I am no longer able to send or receive emails on my iPhone.  Also, once the Trojan Horse began using my AOL email it completely blocked me from using my MAC account by sending never ending popups asking for my email password to access my MAC email account, but it never accepts my pass word.  The TH has also slowed down everything on my computer.  It's like I am working on an old PC with dial up connection instead of the high speed digital connection that I have.  The little color wheel spins constantly as I wait for sometimes over a minute for a page to pull up.  If it pulls up at all.  I have tried to use the 2 disks that came with my computer to completely remove everything on my computer and then reinstall all the programs, but I am not allowed to sweep my computer clean.  I thought maybe my disks that came with my computer were defective so I called Apple and they sent me 2 new disks.  I am not able able to clear my computer with the 2 new disks either.  I have done this before successfully so it's not something new to me.  I do remember when I believe my computer became infected:  I had googled an unusual sewing term, and I was opening what appeared to be legitimate sites, when all of a sudden a pop up appeared that said that my computer had been infected.  I immediately shut my computer off, but it was too late.  I downloaded a virus program for Mac, and it has never found a virus or problem at all.  I think it is part of this Trojan Horse, but I am unable to delete it from my computer.  It refuses to uninstall.  The Mac Trojan Horse is real and it is terrible.  If anyone has any suggestions for me I would be very appreciative,
    Beth

  • How do I sync my address book in my Mac to iPhone instead of my old blackberry

I stopped using the Backup Assistant over a year ago because it wouldn't backup the email addresses onto my blackberry even though it showed in Backup Assistant.
Now I got a new iPhone 4S and I want to use my Address Book in my Mac to the iPhone. How do I sync it to my Address Book?
How does that differ in syncing with iTunes?
    I already have iCloud.
Should I sync it to iCloud or my Mac Address Book (which really is already synced with iCloud, I think)?
I'm afraid to activate my iPhone until I have these questions answered.
    Can someone help me?

I don't have a Mac but on my windows if I go into my phone info on iTunes when plugged in I go to contacts and there are choices to choose from like gmail and windows then sync.  I assume when it's done on a max there is the same option on iTunes. If you go to iCloud.com and sign in you can check to see if your contacts are there. If you activate your phone it won't ruin what you have. It will ask you if you want to back up to what you have if there is anything. If you don't back up you can even if you say start fresh. I would go to an apple store if those things don't check out.
