Address Book problems on iMac & Desktop & Palmtop - **Please Help**

I had the sync working fine yesterday: Mark/space with Tunsgsten T/X
Everything working fine and what folloewed only occured with address book.
My palmtop address books synched with the desktop - which then synched with iMac and all was sweet.
Then I decided to make some changes to the palmtop as the e-mail addresses weren't shown on iMac address book - so recategorised everyone with e-mail addresses on my palmtop - to home/work.
Then came home and synched yesterday (but did have the mind to send all contacts to my desktop as a back-up via bluetooth prior to synching) only for it to delete all my contacts bar about 6 - which I had created the previous day on my palmtop. Nightmare.
So I delete all desktop addresses and imported from the back-up file I had just made. Not too bad - but did lose all my contact folders.
So I spent about an hour re-categorising them on the desktop - then synched - and all contacts are restored.
Now..... my question - why did this happen? All I did was make lots of changes on my palmtop. Why didn't it synch ok?! Just when things begin to look like they're working - they ** up again!!! It's a nightmare.
Also - for some of my contacts on my palmtop I wanted to group them together within a folder - for example:
Folder: Family
Group together cousins so enter -
(Surname)"Cousins, Thomson" (Forename) "Tom"
This seemed to work ok for the palmtop. I get a list of
Cousins, With their name alphabetically to the right
Cousins, e.g.
Cousins, Thomson, Tom
Cousins,
But when I synched to my Mac and then to iMac address book - when I click on preferences (Surname then Forename)
it doesn't do it the same way. It sorts them out:
Surname, Cousins, Forename
Why's that? And also - they are not in alphabetical order (And I did click on the name tab so they would be). They all seem to be messed up. Any ideas why that's happened?
I would go through them all and change the groups I made within the folders - but I'm worried the same thing that happened above will happen and I spend another hour sorting out preferences.
Sorry this os sooo long! Thanks for your help!

If you backed it up onto your external drive it should still be there.
It might be worth booting from your install disc, navigating to Disk Utility, and then repairing your boot drive.
If no joy, you could also check into some of the software for rescuing data like Data Rescue II. I believe you can download a demo to see if it will work for you before purchasing it.
Do you still have the original hard drive in your iBook? If so, it could be beginning to fail, as they generally have a useful life of 3-5 years. Check the S.M.A.R.T. status--if it says anything but "verified", your drive is dying. If it's old, it could still be dying, even if it doesn't show up in the S.M.A.R.T. status yet.
Good luck!

Unable to sync iMac address book with iPad. Can you please help?

I have the same problem as Sheilaza but haven't been able to solve it using the advice offered.  The same problem applies to my Calendars. When I look at my iPad settings in iTunes, it says:
    Sync Contacts
Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud.
Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad.
    and the same for Calendars.
On the iPad, in iCloud settings, I have checked 'Contacts' and 'Calendars' as 'ON' but the Calendar remains blank and the Contacts are a very old version that was somehow created when I set up the iPad initially.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Contacts or Address Book Problem on iMac

I have tried everything but I can get any Contacts (Address Book) to work on iMac using Yosemite and I am using iCloud.  My Contacts work fine on iTouch.  I can login to iCloud on the Web and it is fine.  But click on the Contacts App bottom of iMac Screen and nothing.
Rebooted.  Re-setup iCloud on iMac.  Nothing.  Even works on Macbook Air?  Any ideas?

  • ISync doesn't access Address Book (although it says it does) -PLEASE HELP!

    Fellow iSync users,
My iSync stopped working... calendars and to-do's work fine, but the contacts won't sync!
Odd: although it says it's "Refreshing", that does NOT seem to apply to the address book "groups" or contacts. I tried a lot of things, including resetting sync history, repairing, adding/removing device, trying USB instead of Bluetooth... and even deleting the following files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iSync.plist
    contents of ~/Library/Phones
    contents of ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
    contents of ~/Library/Application Support/SyncService
(I recently upgraded my Nokia's 6110 Navigator's firmware to 4.22, but that shouldn't matter, should it? Though it's an odd coincidence.)
    Thank you for your help!

Yes. Having problems too. I get the following message in the Hot Sync log:
    Loading “Apple”
    Conduit “iSync Conduit” version 3.0.0
    Sync type is Fast
iSync Conduit starting 02/10/06 1:02:03 pm
Setting Hello Response, type is PalmSyncTypeFast, language is 0 (BladeLanguageEnglish) 02/10/06 1:02:06 pm
iSync Conduit: received NULL message, disconnecting... 02/10/06 1:02:06 pm
Setting Hello Response, type is PalmSyncTypeFast, language is 0 (BladeLanguageEnglish) 02/10/06 1:02:06 pm
    OK iSync Conduit
I suspect the "NULL" message means the sync fails in one direction, but I am no expert. I've tried a soft reset on my TX without success. The only way I have sorted it out in the past is to do a hard reset, remove my <user name> file from /<User name>/Documents/Palm/Users/<user name> then do a hot sync, selecting my user name and then to add new applications one at a time, checking the HotSync log each time for error messages.
When I first got the TX I tried transferring data and applications from my Zire 71, but I think it was these old applications that were causing the problems. I have bought or obtained new versions of applications which are said to work with the TX and all was well until I tried to install the CardRules database for CardSuite 3.7.1 - and it's done it again.
Does anyone else have any thoughts please?
I don't know if this is an influence, but I am syncing two TXs to my one Mac.

  • Address book contacts GONE!!!-Please help me

Please help me as I don't know what's happened to my contacts. I was burning DVD's on an external drive and reading email when Mail crashed. Shortly after that I re-opened Mail and tried to send mail when nothing was coming up for addresses and I went into address book and everything is gone. I've read some posts but I cannot find TimeMachine and I do not have an address book archive option under file/import. I see Address Book in my Library but how do I get it to bring my contacts back? I do have a back-up from last month but I want to see if I can find this before I use that backup.
I am using a Powerbook G4 with 10.4.11 and Address book 4.06 and mail 2.12
    Thanks.
    Gina

    This sometimes helps:
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

    Post relates to: Palm Vx

I've seen a lot of people post a message that's basically like the problem I'm having. I'm sending this to everyone who had the same general type of question in hopes that my fix might cure your problem also.
My Palm Desktop (4.1.4) would open correctly the first time after installing, but after doing a hotsync it would crash every other time it was opened (using a Tungsten E). I'm running Windows XP Professional, and it would give an error saying "Windows XP has encountered an error and needs to close", or something like that.
I did the usual. Removed the program and reinstalled, which didn't work. I also went through the tedious process of uninstalling the software, then removing every registry entry by hand that referenced the Palm or Pocketmirror, which also didn't work.
I searched through the support files on palmone.com and found something that gave me an idea. It talked about removing a corrupted file to fix problems with the datebook. I hadn't been getting any errors pointing to a specific problem, but on a hunch I deleted the entire address folder out of the Palm directory. That did the trick!
A corrupted address book in the Palm Desktop software was keeping it from running. The problem was how to fix the corruption, which I eventually found on a menu option in the Palm Desktop software.
Below is the fix that worked for me. Caution! Only do this if you have all of the current info in your Palm, because it will erase what's on your Palm Desktop.
    1. Go to your Palm folder on your pc (default install location is c:\palm) and open the folder for your user.
    2. Delete the address, datebook, expense, memopad, note pad and todo folders.
    3. Open the Palm Desktop program.
    4. Do a hotsync.
    5. Important! Don't click on anything else in the Palm Desktop after doing the hotsync. If you change to one of the areas that has corrupted data, it will immediately crash.
    6. Right after doing the hotsync, click Tools on the top menu in the Palm Desktop, then Options. Click on the Tools tab and then click Check Now to fix the corrupted data.
    7. Click OK.
That should hopefully get you running again. Let me know if that worked for you.

  • Troubleshooting Address Book issues using Palm Desktop for Mac (v. 4.2.1) and a T3?

Can someone please make suggestions which would correct the following issues?
    1) When printing an Address Book from my Mac, the information in the "title" field prints twice. (I have checked my Preferences settings & reviewed how I have entered the information, etc. and everything is in order; also, an Address CARD DOES print correctly --- and --- after syncing to my T3 and then to my husband's PC, an Address Book prints correctly from the PC.)
    2) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "zip code" entries appear BEFORE the "city" entries on the T3. (The zip codes appear correctly on my Mac and print out correctly.)
    3) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "contacts" all appear in BLACK on my T3. Is there any way to show the different "contact categories" in COLOR on the T3 as they were originally entered in my Palm Desktop for Mac?

  • Contacts in my Address Book on my iMac don't sync with iPhone

I'm a real newbie to my iPhone 4S, so I'm sure this is something that should be really obvious to fix.  Searching for an answer has not helped.
I have an Exchange account in Mail and all the contacts in that account show up as Contacts on my phone.  However, those are the only Contacts the phone has.  None of the Contacts in my Address Book on my iMac were copied over to the iPhone when I sync.  What do I need to do that make that happen?
    Thanks.

Depending on how your Address Book is organised it may be relatively simple or not, but basically you need to drag the contacts you want to move to On My Mac to your desktop, delete them from Address Book and add them back (double click on the file on your desktop) once you have selected All On My Mac from the groups list.
If you don't have an All On My Mac group, you'll need to go to preferences > general and make set your default account to On My Mac.
You can drag more than one contact at a time so if you have them in groups already it will help, if not you can work through the list of contacts using cmd click to select just the one's you want.
You can turn off the sync with Google and Yahoo from preferences > accounts > On My Mac.
    Summary:
Select all the contacts you want to move
    Drag them to the desktop
    Delete from Address Book
Set default account to On My Mac
Select All On My Mac from groups
Double click the file on your desktop

  • Email and Address Book problems

I just got my blackberry curve 8310  2 days ago.  I set up the emails, and I'm receiving them on my phone, but they are not showing up at all in my AOL inbox.  Not even in the old mail section.
    What to do?
Also, I have been trying to transfer my address book from my palm treo to my blackberry.  The Desktop Manager does not work when I try to switch between the two devices, for some reason.
    What to do?

    Welcome to the forums.
Do you have an AOL icon for that mail?  Are the messages showing up in the main Messages icon (your new mail should show in BOTH the AOL mail and the Messages icon.  Are you able to send email from your device?
For the transferring of the address book, what version of Desktop Manager do you have (and do you have Windows or Vista on your computer)?  What steps are you doing (every step, please) and where exactly is it failing?

Having problems with Winmail.dat attachments?  This is really Windows problem but their hubris will not allow them to admit it.
Windows does have a global fix for this problem but it is not a general patch - in their KB there is a fix for Exchange servers which cause the winmail.dat problem but most users don't know about it or have it implemented.

  • Importing address book problem

    Hi, hope someone can help.
I'm trying to import an address book from a Virgin pay as you go SIM into a Blackberry Pearl 8110.  I can see the address book when I view the 'SIM address book' option and can dial out from here and the view is very basic not the normal BB address book view.  But I can't SMS from this SIM address book.
I've used the wizard to try and import the contacts into the BB address book but it just imports the contact names but not the numbers.  If I try and select oneof these names nothing happens, its like the address book has frozen.  I also cannot open the menu option when in address book either unless I delete all the individual names that have been imported, then I can select the menu option.
I've also tried adding a contact from scratch on the BB but as soon as I save the data (just name and number) it again goes into freeze and I cant open that contact even though I have just entered it.
If someone sends me an SMS I can reply to it directly from the SMS, but cant create a new SMS taking a contact number from the address book.  It just wont open the contact list.
I've just unlatched the BB so I can use it as a phone using Virgin PAYG credit I have.
Can anyone help with this contact address book problem?
    Cheers J

    What does that mean?
It is always helpful to receive help, to include your exact BlackBerry device model # and carrier name, so that when you have a question, that information won't need to be asked up front. Also, stating your device Operating System version is normally another common question, found on your BlackBerry at Options > About, third line down, looks like "v4.x.x.xxx"
