ADF Regions Vs Pages

Hi,
Here is the requirement i have, I have a page displaying list of reports on the left hand side.On the right hand side, i have 2 panels (Header and Detail). When i click on any of the reports in left pane, I have to display the parameters on the header section and when these parameters are selected and click on "Go" button, details has to be displayed in the detail section.
Parameters Varies based on report
Detail columns varies based on report
What is the best approach in this case? Creating multiple pages for each report or can we handle this using regions?
Thanks,
Lakshmi.

Hi,
I have 5 reports which needs to be displayed and i created 5 task flows.
I have 1 main page with a vertical splitter having 2 panels. Left panel is to display a link for each report and the right panel is the one where i display the regions/repots based on the link we clicked in the left panel.
So, i dragged and dropped first taskflow in the second panel and is working fine. Now where should i drop the other 4 task flows? Do i have to create a separate panel fo each task flow?
Thanks,
Lakshmi

  • Dynamic JDBC Credentials and using ADF Region ERROR

    Hi,
    I used solution by Steve Muench, Dynamic JDBC Credentials (for ADF Faces Rich Client)
    (129.     11g Dynamic JDBC Credentials for Model 1, Struts, Trinidad, and ADF Faces Rich Client 11.1.1.0.0 06-AUG-2008), but it works not correct in case of using ADF Dynamic Region (or simply ADF Region).
    I have added in ViewControllerJSFRichFaces a page (main.jspx) including ADF Dynamic Region consisting of 2 simple tasks flows. Action of the Login button, if login and password are correct, redirect to main.jspx
    There are to cases.
    1) Login and password are correct:
    In this case all work fine.
    2) Login and password are not correct:
    It does not work. redirect to login.jspx does not occur as it is expected, but the following page (main.jspx) is loaded, herewith thrown exception: oracle.jbo.DMLException: JBO-26061: Error while opening JDBC connection.
    I would be very grateful you for help.

    Hi,
    hard to say from your description if this is a bug or an implementation problem. Note that errors that occur in regions are not handled by the exception handler of the the parent page and require special handling within the region. In other words, if the problem is in the region then it needs to be handled in here. I think the right strategy here is to not show the region until a valid connection exist. Is the login performed from the parent page ?

  • How to reset viewScope for a particular ADF region

    I have following usecase.
    I navigate to a page (say cloud home page). while calling this page couple of parameters are set in view scope.
    1. viewScope.keyAttrs.target
    2. viewScope.keyAttrs.type
    The page has a ADF region ( say inventory) embedded.
    For this region I want above parameters in view scope to be null. Can I set a flag or something to make it null?

    My requirement is specific to Enterprise Manager so closing the thread.

  • ADF Region Refreshing Mechanism

    Hi all,
    i have a doubt on how ADF region refreshing mechanism works. Let me explain my doubts with an example. Suppose you have a page .jspx inside whom you put a region with the following relevant properties:
    - Refresh: ifNeeded
    - Activation: deferred
    - Parameters:
    ID Value
    param1 #{pageFlowScope.myBean.param1}
    param2 #{pageFlowScope.myBean.param2}
    paramN #{pageFlowScope.myBean.paramN}
    As you can see, the region is instructed to re-execute its task-flow everytime any of its parameters change. What i don't understand is if the parameters must be changed in particular ways that let the region know that it must be re-executed or they can be changed in any way, for example from within the method of a managed bean: returning to the example above, if inside myBean i have a method like the following:
    public void refreshRegion(){
    setParam1(new Param1());
    the region gets re-executed everytime i call this method?
    If not so, could you please explain how exactly the region detects that one of its parameters is changed and then it must re-execute its task-flow?!?
    Thanks in advance!
    Bye!
    Fabio

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply. Is there some reason in particular to use variables stored at requestScope level? The mechanism used by regions to refresh theirselves don't should be the same regardless the scope at which their parameters are stored?
    As a technician, i imagine that the only way regions are able to automatically detect the need to re-execute their task flow is putting theirselves in constant listening to eventual changes in the value of their parameters. As far as i know, this is the only way for regions to detect the exact moments when refresh is required, despite the way their parameters are updated. If this is not the case, then i think the assumption according to which regions are able to refresh theirselves no matter the way their parameters are changed is wrong, and i'd like to know the real mechanism that hides behind the refresh of ADF regions.
    You said that:
    " Now, in any of the server code, if you are changing anyone of the above requestScope values, the taskflow would be re-executed "
    Please, let me ask you: even if the code that changes the value runs inside a thread different from the "ADF thread"?
    Thanks again,
    Bye!

  • ADF View Controller - Page Transitions

    Hi All,
    Definitley releveant here - JSF 2.0 / Jdev 11.1.2
    This one may be considered a little left of filed, but has anyone out their played around or implemented view controller transitions? Depending upon the network speed, with a lot of my pages, I can see the components rendering and loading. This is especially true with tables set with auto-height-rows not equal to -1.
    Just to be clear, some other front-end only frameworks give you the ability to slide or fade into the new page, once this is entirely loaded into the DOM.
    My educated guess is that this would involve some sort of View Model Layer extension, however I am guessing that this may be one of the areas that not many developers have attempted to tackle. Nothing on google so far - that or my search terms are way off.
    Even if someone could provide some psuedo logic into how this theortetically would be achieved. From my experience in ADF, I have realised that the framework is very extensible, and being open source, could support this requirement.
    Cheers,
    Simo

    Simo,
    you may want to try partial page navigation as documented here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/b31973/ap_config.htm#sthref409to speed page transition.
    I don't think that open source is a guarantee for animated transition(and ADF is not open source) as otherwise we would see that e.g. in Trinidad MyFaces or other open source JSF frameworks. Instead what we do is to work on reducing the page content size and the supplement CSS and JS file downloads (You will see improvements when JDeveloper 12c goes out) . Other strategies for faster page load and response include the use of page templates and ADF regions. So unless you need transition for a visual effect I am not quite sure I want to follow that adding transition animation is a way to improve the use experience in regards to performance

  • Adf region is not displaying anything

    Hi,
    I am using adf region to display the data.For this I have created one bounded task flow with page fragments.
    In the page fragment I created one output tag to display something.this page fragment is dropped in task flow.
    Then I made one JSP page and drag the task flow and drop it as the region.The problem is it not displaying any data.
    I am using jdev 12. Can you please tell me whether I am doing anything wrong.
    Thanks,
    Harsh

    What do you mean by
    Then I made one JSP page and drag the task flow and drop it as the region.
    Did you create a jspx page or a jsf page. Depending on the fragment type it only works on a jsf page (jsf 2.0 page). 12c default is create fragments as 'Facelets' which only work in jsf Pages. If you want to use a jspy page you have to create the fragment as 'JSP xml'.

  • ADF Region not getting refreshed after Commit

    Hi everyone!
    I'm having some trouble with a region that is disturbing me for more than 2 weeks, its true guys, I tried everything!!
    My parent page is a normal ADF .jspx page that contains inside it a task-flow call. The first task-flow activity is a router, after sending a String
    to router it chooses the region activity that fits the page (in this example I always pass the same value, same String).
    After the router is called then it delegates to "ExecuteWithParams" method call before calling my final region that have its query executed with
    parameter set inside task-flow.
    The region is refreshed (refresh="ifNeeded") when I change row inside a table in ParentPage, all fine here.
    The problem is:
    - After any Commit (with navigation case or executable binding) is issued inside Region the region save its state and does not refresh anymore, even if task-flow parameters change.
    Already tried CacheResults="false" on iterator too.
    I'm using Jdeveloper 11.1.2.1.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi,
    so I think the shirt summary of your problem is that an ADF region doesn't refresh after it issued a commit. Sounds like a bug to me if this reproduces in a test case. Do you have a testcase based on the Oracle HR schema ? If so, send it my way in a zip file you rename to ".unzip". My mail address is in my OTN profile. Note that bugs I file are not visible to customers. So if you need to keep track of any state of the issue, you need to file a service request with support yourself.

  • Create regions at page level

    Hello,
    I've made a template which contains navigation, search and some style elements (images).
    Some pages which will use this template will have 3 regions (columns) for content, others will only need one.
    Is it possible to base these two kinds of pages on the same template with one main region, and create extra regions at page level when necessary?
    Thanks,
    Ton

    Hi Ton,
    Using the page template locks down the ability to create new regions in pages that use the template with one exception - a 'hidden' feature when the page region on the template is configured with tabs. In this config, you can create new tabs at the page level and within these new tabs define page unique region layouts.
    Another option to consider is to build your nav, search, style elements as nav pages, expose them as page portlets, place them on your template, create your end user facing pages using the template and disconnect the page from the template. This way changes to the nav, search, style elements you make in the nav pages will update all the end user facing pages constructed this way.

  • Page Zero (0) - Regions Caching / Page Caching not available

    Hi,
    My page zero display information from a calendar table (fiscal year, etc.). This information will be the same all day long (get updated at midnight). It's not possible to enable caching of regions on page zero. It's also impossible to enable caching of the page zero.
    Why?

    [My Blog|http://lgcarrier.blogspot.com]
    [APEX and jQuery demos|http://www.insum.ca/jquery]

    Louis-Guillaume,
    Good question. We have asked ourselves this and are considering removing the restriction in 4.0. I think it initially had to do with preventing unwanted side effects and anomalies although none of us can recall the details right now. We will have to carefully look at ways to make this something developers can use easily while preventing strange results. First of all, caching of page 0 doesn't make sense. You want to be able to cache regions on page 0. Now, say your page 0 has two regions, P0_CACHED and P0_DYN (one cached, one dynamic). And your page 10 has region P10_CACHED. When page 10 is rendered, you'll get:
    P0_CACHED
    P0_DYN
    P10_CACHED
    That looks okay, you get one cached region from page 0, one dynamic region from page 0, and one cached region from page 10. Of course you have controls with which to purge any individual region from the cache so you can cause P0_CACHED to be refreshed whenever you like.
    But say page 20 is a cached page. When it renders you'll get:
    P0_CACHED <-- not from the page 0 region cache but from the page 20 page cache, regardless of the "stale-ness" of the page 0 cache
    P0_DYN <-- not rendered dynamically from page 0 but retrieved as part of the page 20 page cache. But this content may be different from the content for the same page 0 region displayed on page 10 one second ago or one second from now.
    P20_DYN <-- from the page cache as is normal for a dynamic region on a cached page
    Hardly a thorough treatment, I realize. Just wanted you to know some of the aspects we have to consider. We will also have to read this thread again to come back up to speed: V3 Caching - any more info? .

  • ADF UIX Partial page rendering

    Hi
    I am facing a mysterious problem with partial page rendering in ADF UIX.
    My page contains a <header> H1 and inside this there are two headers(H2 and H3).

    ADF UIX has very little documentation online and finding it hard to debug this issue.
    It ll be of great help.
    Thanks

    Hi Jason,
    As of EA9, all rendered components support a partialTriggers attribute. This attribute takes a list of master component IDs. If any of the master components are updated via a partial event, the dependent component will be rerendered in the partial update.
    If you are on an earlier release, you should upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Jeanne

  • How to enable cache for region in page 0

    Hi,
    I have a list region in page 0 that servers as a navigation menu for every page, I also has a html region on page 0. Cache option in both region are not available, is there a way to turn on cache for region in page 0?
    If not, what is the alternative approach to have a list region show on every page and also has cache on? I do not want to create a list region in every page.

    Everything work as expected, with one exception. The 'Add and Bind Navigation Pane Components' section has you put a Navigation Pane in the menBar facet of the panel header. In the Hint dropdown you select 'buttons' and set some other properties.
    When I run the finished project, the menu items in the menbar are displaying vertically instead of horizontally as the image with the tutorial shows. Why? How do I get them to display horizontally?
    I really like that menu model and plan utilizing it in real world application; unfortunately, have the menubar dislay vertically in the panel header is unacceptable.
    <f:facet name="top">
            <af:panelHeader text="ADF Menu Example" id="pt_ph1" size="0">
              <f:facet name="context"/>
              <f:facet name="menuBar">
                <af:navigationPane id="pt_np1" hint="buttons" var="menuInfo"
                                   value="#{root_menu}">
                  <f:facet name="nodeStamp">
                      <af:commandNavigationItem text="#{menuInfo.label}"
                                                id="pt_cni1" icon="#{menuInfo.icon}"
                                                destination="#{menuInfo.destination}"
                                                action="#{menuInfo.doAction}"/>
                  </f:facet>
                </af:navigationPane>
              </f:facet>
              <f:facet name="legend"/>
              <f:facet name="info"/>
            </af:panelHeader>
          </f:facet>

    Ok, I am still at a loss as to why this is happening.
    It seems to be related to the either navigationpane or the menu meta data.
    I have only foudn one difference so far. The tutorial states that JDeveloper us org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.model.XMLMenuModel managed bean class by default; however, my project used oracle.adf.view.rich.model.MDSMenuModel. When I use the XMLMenuModel, the only visible diference is in the Visual Editor and the Preview panes. The menus appear horizontally in those panes, but not when you run the application in a web borwser.
    Still troubleshooting.
