ADF View Controller - Page Transitions

Hi All,
Definitley releveant here - JSF 2.0 / Jdev 11.1.2
This one may be considered a little left of filed, but has anyone out their played around or implemented view controller transitions? Depending upon the network speed, with a lot of my pages, I can see the components rendering and loading. This is especially true with tables set with auto-height-rows not equal to -1.
Just to be clear, some other front-end only frameworks give you the ability to slide or fade into the new page, once this is entirely loaded into the DOM.
My educated guess is that this would involve some sort of View Model Layer extension, however I am guessing that this may be one of the areas that not many developers have attempted to tackle. Nothing on google so far - that or my search terms are way off.
Even if someone could provide some psuedo logic into how this theortetically would be achieved. From my experience in ADF, I have realised that the framework is very extensible, and being open source, could support this requirement.
Cheers,
Simo

Simo,
you may want to try partial page navigation as documented here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/b31973/ap_config.htm#sthref409to speed page transition.
I don't think that open source is a guarantee for animated transition(and ADF is not open source) as otherwise we would see that e.g. in Trinidad MyFaces or other open source JSF frameworks. Instead what we do is to work on reducing the page content size and the supplement CSS and JS file downloads (You will see improvements when JDeveloper 12c goes out) . Other strategies for faster page load and response include the use of page templates and ADF regions. So unless you need transition for a visual effect I am not quite sure I want to follow that adding transition animation is a way to improve the use experience in regards to performance

  • How to import custom classes from model to view controller in adf?

    hi...
    i have some custom classes in model layer in adf.
    i want to use them in view controller but i cannot import them.
    how is this possible?
    my jdev version is 11.1.1.5

    You normally don't have to do anything special. The view controller project has a dependency to the model project. So simply typing the class name should show you hte option to generate the need import statement for the class.
    However, not all classes which reside in the model project should be imported into the view Controller as it might break the MVC pattern.

    I have a 10.1.3 ADF application that runs well on Web Sphere and OC4J. I'm trying to run it on JBoss EAP 6.0.1. The ear file was deployed successfully to JBOSS and according to ADF logging the connection to Oracle database is established.

    On click of "+" Icon we are showing a popup window,Which has 2 options with "RichSelectOneChoice".
    1.Desktop File 2.URL.
    Then we will browse and select the file and click OK button.
    We are consistently seeing below error message in Weblogic server.
    Can you please let me know what could be the reason.We didn't touch this code for quite sometime.

    I am facing a mysterious problem with partial page rendering in ADF UIX.
    My page contains a <header> H1 and inside this there are two headers(H2 and H3).
    The partial page rendering is in the header H2 and is working fine.
    When i remove the below header H3 the partial page rendering ceases to work and get stuck.

    Please suggest if you know of any documentation on ADF UIX partial page rendering.
    ADF UIX has very little documentation online and finding it hard to debug this issue.
    It ll be of great help.
    Thanks
    Kamal

    Hi Jason,
    As of EA9, all rendered components support a partialTriggers attribute. This attribute takes a list of master component IDs. If any of the master components are updated via a partial event, the dependent component will be rerendered in the partial update.
    If you are on an earlier release, you should upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Jeanne

  • ADF Menus for Page Navigation

    I have completed the [ADF Menus for Page Navigation|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/11/cuecards/adf_set_43/ccset43_ALL.html] tutorial.
    Everything work as expected, with one exception. The 'Add and Bind Navigation Pane Components' section has you put a Navigation Pane in the menBar facet of the panel header. In the Hint dropdown you select 'buttons' and set some other properties.
    When I run the finished project, the menu items in the menbar are displaying vertically instead of horizontally as the image with the tutorial shows. Why? How do I get them to display horizontally?
    I really like that menu model and plan utilizing it in real world application; unfortunately, have the menubar dislay vertically in the panel header is unacceptable.
    <f:facet name="top">
            <af:panelHeader text="ADF Menu Example" id="pt_ph1" size="0">
              <f:facet name="context"/>
              <f:facet name="menuBar">
                <af:navigationPane id="pt_np1" hint="buttons" var="menuInfo"
                                   value="#{root_menu}">
                  <f:facet name="nodeStamp">
                      <af:commandNavigationItem text="#{menuInfo.label}"
                                                id="pt_cni1" icon="#{menuInfo.icon}"
                                                destination="#{menuInfo.destination}"
                                                action="#{menuInfo.doAction}"/>
                  </f:facet>
                </af:navigationPane>
              </f:facet>
              <f:facet name="legend"/>
              <f:facet name="info"/>
            </af:panelHeader>
          </f:facet>

    Ok, I am still at a loss as to why this is happening.
    It seems to be related to the either navigationpane or the menu meta data.
    I have only foudn one difference so far. The tutorial states that JDeveloper us org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.model.XMLMenuModel managed bean class by default; however, my project used oracle.adf.view.rich.model.MDSMenuModel. When I use the XMLMenuModel, the only visible diference is in the Visual Editor and the Preview panes. The menus appear horizontally in those panes, but not when you run the application in a web borwser.
    Still troubleshooting.

  • ADF panel does not prompt for variable defined in ADF view object.

    I have created an ADF Panel, which allows the user to run a few simple queries against an Oracle database done using ADF view objects and ADF view links and ADF application module.
    One of these queries lookup detail information about a given database object (Table, view or whatever) from dba_objects. The SQL uses a parameter (:P_OBJ_NAME) that has a default value of “Departments”. If I run the ADF application module by itself outside of the ADF panel, all works fine, it prompts me to provide a value for the parameter :P_OBJ_NAME.
    As I said the panel contains the different ADF view links including the one that should prompt the user to provide a value for :P_OBJ_NAME. When I run the panel it does not prompt me for :P_OBJ_NAME, it just uses the default defined value “departments”.
    I hope I described my problem for every one to understand. The question obviously is how do I get the ADF panel to prompt the user to provide a value for parameter :P_OBJ_NAME, my expectation was that since the sql in the view object and the application module both are designed to prompt for a value for this parameter then the panel should do just that but it does not.
    You expert input would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

    The prompting for a parameter is a feature we built into the ADF Tester - it is not a default behavior you get in your application when you just place a VO on your page.
    To get something like this expend the operations node under the VO in the data control palette, and drag the "Execute with parameters" operation to your page to drop it as a parameter form.
    This will provide your user a place to fill out the parameter and press a button to execute the query.

  • In MVC, do i need a View or Page with flow logic for POPUP window

    Hi All,
    I have the below scenario using the MVC pattern.
    I have a main view with 3 trays, each tray has two buttons, for example first tray has Create Order button. When I click on this button, I need a popup window to come with a tableview and a button(Create), where I select some rows and click on the button Create  to create order.
    But as per the MVC pattern I canu2019t call the view (popup) from another view(main view).  So should I create a VIEW or PAGE WITH FLOW LOGIC for the popup? .
    I need 6 popup to be called from the main view and once the function is done close the popup.
    Please suggest me the flow for this scenario.
    Cheers,
    Srini.

    Srini,
    1. You can call the view in pop-up because you will be calling the controller using open.window.
    Here is the sample code:
    method DO_REQUEST .
      data:
            li_vw           type ref to   if_bsp_page,
            lv_form_field   type          string,
            li_md           type ref to   zcl_model01.
      dispatch_input( ).
      li_md ?= get_model( 'm01' ).
      lv_form_field = request->get_form_field( 'invoice_create' ).
      if lv_form_field is initial.
    *------ Request to display main page
        li_vw = create_view( view_name = 'main.htm' ).
        li_vw->set_attribute( name = 'model' value = li_md ).
        call_view( li_vw ).
      elseif lv_form_field eq 'true'.
    *------ Request to display Invoice page in pop-up
        li_vw = create_view( view_name = 'invoice.htm' ).
        li_vw->set_attribute( name = 'model' value = li_md ).
        call_view( li_vw ).
      endif.
    endmethod.
    Layout:
          function do_Invoice()
          { var s=0; r=1; w=300; h=300; x=screen.width/2;
            x=x-w/2;
            var y=screen.height/4;
            y=y-h/2;
            popUp=window.open('main.do?invoice_create=true','win','width='+ w
            +',height='+ h +', left=' + x +',top='+ y +');
    Option2:
    Ofcourse you can't bind the model in page becos those are 2 different things. But all you need to do is access the model to get some value. To know how to access the model from Page w/flow logic look at [this link|Passing model reference to a page in a Popup].

  • Question about view/controller/nib class design

    Assume you need to make an application with, let's say, 15 different views in total. There are two extreme design choices you can use to implement the app:
    1) Every single view has its own view controller and a nib file. Thus you end up with 15 controller classes and 15 nib files (and possibly a bunch of view classes if any of your views needs to be somehow specialized).
    2) You have only one controller which manages all the views, and one nib file from which they are loaded.
    AFAIK Apple and many books recommend going purely with option #1. However, going with this often results in needless complexity, large amounts of classes (and nib files) to be managed and complicated class dependencies, especially if some of the views (and thus their controllers) interact with each other or share something (something which would be greatly simplified if all these related views were handled by one single controller class).
    Option #2 also usually ends up being very complex. The major problem is that the single controller will often end up being enormous, handling tons of different (and usually unrelated) things (which is just outright bad design). This is seldom a good design, unless your application consists of only a few views which are closely related to each other (and thus it makes sense for one single controller class to handle them).
    (Option #2 also breaks the strictest interpretation of the MVC pattern, but that's not really something I'm concerned about. I'm concerned about simple design, not about following a programming pattern to the letter.)
    A design somewhere in between the two extremes often seems to be the best approach. However, since I don't have decades of Cocoa programming experience, I would like to hear some opinions about this subject matter from people with more experience on that subject. (I do have object-oriented programming experience, but I have only relatively recently started programming for the iPhone and thus Cocoa and its design patterns are relatively new to me, so I'm still learning.)

    Somehow I get the feeling that my question was slightly misunderstood.
    I was not asking "which one of these two designs do you think is better, option #1 or option #2?" I already said in my original post that option #2 is bad design (unless your application consists of just one or two views). That's not the issue.
    The issue is that from my own experience trying to adhere very strictly to the "every single view must have its own view controller and nib file" often results in needless complexity. Of course this is not always the case, but sometimes you end up having controller classes which perform very similar, if not even the exact same actions, resulting in code repetition. (An OO'ish solution to this problem would be to have a common base class for these view controllers where the common functionality has been grouped, but this often just adds to the overall complexity of the class hierarchy rather than alleviating it.)
    As an example, let's assume that you have a set of help screens (for example one help screen for each major feature of the app) and a view where you can select which help view to show. Every one of these views has, for example, a button to immediately exit the help system. If you had one single controller class managing these views, this becomes simpler: The controller can switch between any of the views and the buttons of each view (most of them doing the same things) can call back actions on this controller (eg. to return to the help selection or to exit the help screen completely). These help screens don't necessarily have any functionality of their own, so it's questionable what do they would need view controllers of their own. These view controllers would basically be empty because there's nothing special for them to do.
    View controllers might make it easy to use the navigation controller class, but the navigation controller is suitable mainly for utility apps but often not for things like games. (And if you need animated transitions between views, that can be implemented using the UIView animation features.)
    I also have hard time seeing the advantages of adhering strictly to the MVC pattern. The MVC pattern is useful in things like web servers, where MVC adds flexibility. The controller acts as a mediator between the database and the user interface, and it does so in such an abstract way that either one can be easily changed (eg. the "view", which normally outputs HTML, could be easily changed to a different "view" which outputs a PDF or even plain text, all this without having to touch the controller or the model at all). However, I'm not seeing the advantages of the MVC pattern in an iPhone app. It provides a type of class design, but why is it better than some other class design? It's not like the input and output formats of the app need to be changed on the fly (which is one advantage of a well-designed program using the MVC pattern).

  • Oracle/adf/view/rich/model/AsyncFetch Error in DVT

    Experts,
    We have some DVT components in our application which runs perfectly on integrated local Weblogic Sever. Once we deploy it to a Weblogic Standalone server, we are getttnig the following error while trying to access the DVT graph page. Rest of the application is working properly.
    Error : oracle/adf/view/rich/model/AsyncFetch
    followed by ADF Faces 60097
    Jdev 11.1.1.5 and WLS 10.3.5
    thnks

    Solution : Go to EAR Deployment Profile Properties -> File Groups -> Application Libraries ->Filters and here you have to remove the libraries that are ADF DVT.

  • Users prompted to log in to view public pages

    I have a page in my app called "publicHome.jspx". It has a pageDef file for it. In the Application | Secure | Resource Grants, I've granted View access to that page to the "anonymous-role" role. This should mean that anyone can view the page without being prompted to log in.
    However, when users go to that page, they are redirected to the login page to log in. This is the problem; this is not expected behavior.
    I've found that if I remove the pageDef file for publicHome.jspx, then users can go to the page without being prompted to log in. This is expected behavior, since pages without a pageDef file are not secured by ADF.
    If I then create a new pageDef (empty, with no bindings), then re-grant View permissions to "anonymous-role", users are prompted to log in once again. (The problem is repeatable.)
    This does NOT happen on the Embedded WebLogic Server that comes with JDev (v11.1.1.5.0, BTW). It only happens when we deploy it to a standalone WebLogic (v10.3.5) server. I've tried deploying it to multiple standalone WL servers - it fails on all of them. (So, it doesn't seem to be a problem with my WL setup.) And, to really make it worse, it used to work - something changed to cause this, and I can't figure out what!
    I've verified that the "anonymous-role" is NOT defined in my jazn-data.xml file, since I know that triggers an endless loop bug.
    I'll be happy to post any config files that might be of use - just let me know which ones you'd like to see.
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Karl

    Hi,
    can you try starting the stand alone WLS instance in development mode (which makes it to be the same as the embedded server).
    See
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs100/medrec_tutorials/devmode.html
    See: Step 2: Edit the server startup file.
    In a command-line shell, move to the root directory of the MedRec domain:
    Open the setDomainEnv.cmd (Windows) or setDomainEnv.sh (UNIX) script in a text editor:
    Look for the line that sets the PRODUCTION_MODE script variable:
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=false

  • ADF Faces: oracle.adf.view.faces.CHANGE_PERSISTENCE

    Does anyone have any information about oracle.adf.view.faces.CHANGE_PERSISTENCE. This appears to be un-documented.

    This may help explain the situatin. I originally had JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 installed when I started this tutorial. I then installed JDeveloper 11 version 4 and tried to work the WebCenter Protlet tutorial. When I did it tried to migrage my settings. However, when I attempted to do the tutorial I noticed that it did not have the same options for the WebCenter new applications that would create a Portlet folder. So, I went back to 10.1.3.2 to work the tutorial. No error was flagged at this point but that is when the problems started occuring. I browsed my working directory (C:\Oracle\jdevinstance) where I had my applications stored (C:\Oracle\jdevinstance\mywork) and I noticed that I had what appared to be possible conflicting system files. I had the following system files listed under the working directory: system, system11.1.1.0.17.45.24, system11.1.1.0.22.47.96, and system11.1.1.0.22.49.49. I don't know if this is the issue or not and any feedback about these extra files would be apprecaited?
    In addition, I create a new application (using 10.1.3.2) with a different applicaiton directory (C:\Oracle\jdevinstance\MyWork_10.1.3.2) and started the tutorial over. This time I had no issues with the JSP page and all of my web.xml files are the same version (2.4).
