Adjust time before new sign-in is requested?

I have a signin on my MacBook Pro.  However when I step away from my Mac for a minute or so when I return my screen is dark and I need to input the password again.
How can I extend the times before I get the dark screen and the request for a sign-in
Thanks everyone, Barry

  • How to adjust time before Mac sleeps?

    I recently started with Mountain Lion and can't find a way to set the amount of time before the computer goes to sleep.
    I looked in System Preferences -> Energy Saver  and it has a slider to set the time before turning off the display and a box to keep the computer from sleeping but nothing to set the time before it sleeps?
    I'd like to know when my computer will go to sleep and sometimes I may have it doing something like copying a large amount of data from one drive to another or running a batch process and a large number of photographs where I need the computer up and running for a few hours.
    Is it possible to adjust the time before the Mac sleeps in Mountain Lion?  I used to do it in Leopard and Snow Leopard.

    Hi Eric.  No, it doesn't look like that.  It looks like this (attached screen shot).
    I'm using OSX 10.8.5

    Every time a new safari window opens, it takes several minutes before I can actually use it.  This seems to have started after the most recent updates.  I have reloaded the operating system, but the problem persists.  Ideas?

    Found the problem  Plug-ins (extensions?)  I had loaded were not compatable with latest update.  Once they were deleted, sfari runs fine.  Hope this helps others

  • HT4528 My new iPhone has a lag time before it turns on?  I need to make an appt with Tysons to get it repaired.

    My new iphone has a lag time before it turns on.  I think it may need to go into Tysons for support.  Do you have any other options for me?

    What exactly do you mean by lag time when tutned on?  If you startup from a shutoff condition you have to hold the power button for a few seconds before the startup sequence begins...and then the apple logo will stay on-screen for a minute or so as it powers up.
    If you are talking about waking from sleep, how long is this taking?
    If you are concerned, by all means take it in for testing...but Apple does not repair iPhones, they replace them if defective.

  • Is there a way to avoid having to sign in to iTunes several times before gaining access ?

    I am frustrated by the fact that I now have to sign in to iTunes several times before it opens. This used not to be the case.
    I use both 1Password and Dashlane as password managers,and am slowly learning how to use them. Is there a way to program one of these managers to quickly sign in to iTunes,preventing the need for multiple sign-ins ?
    Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    There is no way to avoid that the contentlib will be placed on the site server.
    I don‘t agree that storage cost is high. It might be true for fast storage, but that‘s not needed for it.

  • Apple TV 2 is asking for network time before I can purchase a movie? Restarted it and still requesting network time. Wifi is connected and works. Any ideas?

    Apple TV 2 is asking for network time before I can purchase a movie? Even restarted it and still did the same thing.
    How do you fix this? My wifi is operating 100% connected and I can access the Itunes Movies etc. How do I get it to work again?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    If you've had it working previously, try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, or a restore if the problem persists.

  • Ok so I just updated my I Phone4S with the new OS7 software.. A problem is now occuring: when someone calls me their phone rings 3 to 4 times before my phone rings. Does anyone know why ? Or how to fix this.. This is New..

    Like my header says.. I have a I Phone 4S.. with recently installed OS 7 software.. One problem has occured.. when someone calls me thier phone rings
    3 to 4 times before my phone rings.. I have tested this with several family and friends calling me..
    > I have a business this is unacceptable.. does anyone have a solution thanks...

    If this were happening to me I would try resetting the System Management Controller.  Next step would be to take it to an authorized service place.

  • Big problem with iTunes Match and subscription renewal -- think twice before you sign up!!

    A little over a year ago I signed up for iTunes Match thinking it would be an excellent way to free up some space on my drive and save me some time by providing access to all of my music on my phone/ other devices. About 100gbs was uploaded without incident. I deleted that music from my drive thinking that iTunes match is like any other cloud based service. In August my subscription came up for renewal. In August I had also switched debit cards. The auto-renew failed. I received notification of such and then went to update my new card information with the account. The card information updated successfully, but when i then went to update my iTunes Match I would receive the error message #5002. So I called customer support. They politely agreed to rectify the situation and that I was not the only customer to face this situation, but said it would require contacting engineering to get a hard fix since in order for an account to renew a subscription they have to purge the library. This is fine because all of your iTunes account purchases are already backed-up. But it is not okay, if you have any other 3rd party music in your library. All of the 3rd party music I had uploaded from old CDs, converted LPs, or purchased through other online vendors would have to be deleted in order to renew my subscription. Engineering replied that there was no work around. This has left me at a weird impasse with customer support with no resolution. The music is just sitting there. I'm gladly willing to pay to renew my subscription, but because of bad engineering, deceptive advertising, and what I'm guessing is a greedy internal policy regarding 3rd party media, I stand to lose the couple thousand bucks just by being a loyal Apple consumer and choosing to use their product over alternatives in the market like Google Play. The morale of the story is this: ITUNES MATCH IS NOT A REAL CLOUD BASED SERVICE EVEN THOUGH IT IS ADVERTISED AS SUCH.  Think twice before you sign up!

    Hello Michael, I've been reading many of your splendid replies so perhaps you can help me as I can't seem to find the exact solution to what should be a simple problem. I got a new iPod Touch recently and after spending almost 3 hours on the phone with Apple today we discovered my account was so old it hadn't synched up correctly with Apple's new data requirement so an Apple manager was connected to me and eventually we solved several issues which I won't bother going into here. However, at some point in all this I saw Match show up and music from the iCloud was seemingly downloaded onto my new iPod. I was surprised to see this as I thought I'd done away with Match long ago, but with the new version of iTunes which eliminated over 300 playlists and all of my music from iTunes when it updated to the newest version last week, I suppose anything is possible.
    What I want to do now is simply to be able to put my own music back onto my new iPod and ignore everything related to Match hoping it goes away and never returns. So I followed the online instructions to turn off Match, and now iTunes and my iPod say I need to subscribe to iTunes Match...but I still cannot download anything onto my new iPod and the 15,000 plus songs that appeared to be downloaded earlier when on the phone with an Apple manager are also no longer available. BTW, my Match subscription should be paid for, but I can't even figure out how to make sure it never gets updated again as this is nasty business scrubbing all 3rd party music off our own devices. Yuk. But can you help me please? Thus far, this experience with this new iPod Touch and the new iTunes 12.1 is the worst experience I have ever had with Apple and I own many Apple products.

  • At times when dragging the vertical scroll bar my computer screen oscillates up and down for some time before going blank or not responding to any clicks requiring a forced system restart. What is wrong?

    Hi,
    Suddenly while working with Firefox if I happen to drag the vertical scroll bar, a very abnormal behavior occurs. My screen dances up and down for a short time before either going black or getting restored but with no clicks working. The only way to resume is to force a restart of the system.
    Any help would be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards

    That didn't work. On trying to install a new driver I got the error the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. Is there anything else that can be done to at least prevent the hanging of the computer even if it means less features from Firefox being available?

  • I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I upgraded to lion. I tried to buy an audio book and download it to my nano like I have done at least 50 times before. Now the dialog box states that I need an ipod touch for the same function. MacBook Pro 2008 w/ m.trac

    I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?

    I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?
    I truly appreciate any help I can get!
    Thanks again...

  • Since recent updates, I have noticed that my apps close automatically when I am distracted. In some cases it is time consuming to sign back in and get back to the task I was doing. Is it possible to change a setting so the apps will stay open?

    Since recent updates of iOS, I have noticed when using my iPad that my apps close automatically when I have to leave the room or am otherwise distracted for a few minutes. It is sometimes time consuming to sign back in and get back to the task where i left off. Is there a setting I can change so it will keep the apps open until I am ready to close them? Thanks for your help.

    Did you have this problem before Restoring you iPad?
    If you did then did you restore with a backup. You may have reinstalled something that is conflicting in this back up
    If not then sounds like either something went array with the clean install or a hardware issue.
    I know it's long winded but have you tired a clean install then downloading the apps again?

  • How to Set A Default Start Time For New Events In Calendar?

    How to Set A Default Start Time For New Events In Calendar?

    John,
    Thanks for that suggestion - could not get it to work. However, I did manage a different approach. I finally determined the sequence of events in terms of how the various events and listeners fire (I think).
    Basically, the CalendarActivityListener fires, followed by the listener associated with the Calendar object's Create facet, followed finally by the CalendarEventListener - the final is where the TriggerEvent is available and then finally, control is passed to the popup/dialog in the Create facet. So, my approach of trying to set/get the TriggerDate in the user's HTTP session was doomed to failure because it was being get before it had been set :(
    Anyway, I ended up adding a bit of code to the CalendarEvent listener - it grabs the current BindingContext, navigates through the DCBindingContainer to derive an Iterator for the ViewObject which drives the calendar and then grabs the currently active row. I then do a few tests to make sure we're working with a "new" row because I don't want to alter start & end dates associated with an existing calendar entry and then I define the Start and End dates to be the Trigger Date.
    Works just fine. Snippet from the listener follows
    BindingContext bindingContext = BindingContext.getCurrent();+
    *if ( bindingContext != null )    {*+
    DCBindingContainer dcBindings = (DCBindingContainer) bindingContext.getCurrentBindingsEntry();+
    DCIteratorBinding iterator = dcBindings.findIteratorBinding("EventsView1Iterator");+
    Row currentRow = iterator.getCurrentRow();+
    if ( currentRow.getAttribute("StartDate") == null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("StartDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+
    if (currentRow.getAttribute("EndDate")==null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("EndDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+
    *}*

  • Cannot adjust time as user, no printing either in KDE, arch 32 bit

    Hi,
             I installed ntp, and tried to adjust time as it is aways wrong.
    Down South here in Oz it lookks liike we are in Canada or Europe!
    It asks for root password to auto update it from a time server,
    but says it is not system policy and then refuses to let one do so even once as root
    It states there is something wrong with the dbus backend.
    Perhaps a root login may be able to fix it but perhaps not too
    There is no printing in kde, the config complains of orpan modules and old third pary modules lying around and blames the last upgrade.
    Guess I 'll have to go to cups printing and hope cups is OK.
    Guess these are bugs and a wonky kde control module and/or dbus and they may have been reported already,

    Thanks for you interest Yurlungur,
                                                     Somehow I managed to fix ntp, it now updates with ntp and an ntp timeserver, so now I am going to try printing via cups printing on the web due to the bad state of the KDE control panel in Arch.
    By the way before your post I upgraded dbus, but the control panel is the problem I am sure, as this did not help.
    May I ask what desktop you use

    Hi El Zorro,
    I don't use KDE so I can't help you there, but I can try and help with ntp. This is sort of an obvious question, and if you've already done this, please ignore me, but have you tried debugging dbus? Is it running properly (as far as I know, it's pretty plug-n-play, but maybe you need an update, or the daemon isn't running right)? KDE may have a front end for ntp, but there's no reason ntp shouldn't be completely controllable by the command line... and if it's not, there's probably a dependancy problem. Just for kicks, can you post the daemons line of /etc/rc.conf and the entire contents of /etc/ntp.conf?
