Adjusting the three audio channels

Once I finish my voice overs on one track, add music to another how do I adjust the levels of the three audio channels?
Usually I will want ambient sound or music under the voice overs. Other times the sound from the video will be the main audio. Occasionaly the music will be the only audio since I am integrating photos with the other video.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Ludlow - you adjust audio levels like this:
1. Go View>Show Clip Volume Levels.
2. In Timeline View, select a track. You will see the volume level shown as a thin line. This whole line can be moved up or down, or portions of it can be raised, lowered or muted. See here:

  • The right audio channel is no longer heard after effect assignment in the timeline

Sorry, but my English is not so good, but I try to explain the problem:
Once I clip any one assigns an effect in the timeline, works when playing only the left audio channel channel. Once I pull the clip from the timeline into the project window again, then works again the left and the right channel. How do I get the right audio channel in the interface window active again?

When I look at the properties of the file in QuickTime, here's what it shows:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)

Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Why it's telling me the other 3 channels are unused, I have no idea. They certainly are getting used. The footage was shot in stereo and Final Cut plays it in stereo.

  • Stereo Audio channel turns to mono when I close and re-open the project

    Hi there,
when I import a random video file with stereo audio channels and put it to the timeline (after peaking), everything works allright - the recording level window shows me the left and the right audio channel.
But when I save and close the project in order to re-open it directly, I only got a mono audio channel (left) and the stereo is away in my timeline and recording level window. The preview of the imported video ist still ok with stereo sound.
Is this a bug ? What can do? Please help me.
    Thanks a lot

Are you clearing your recent history either manually or when you close Firefox?
Firefox stores App Tabs and tab group details in the same file that stores details of browsing sessions. Make sure that you have not set Firefox to delete browsing history. For details of the setting to check see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History

  • File won't import due to 'Too many audio channels'

I've managered to import one 30 minute video recorded off a screen recording program off the AppStore called ScreenRecordStd. This software has an 'include computer audio' button which I activated after the first 30 minute video.
Once trying to import any videos with this selection activated they won't import, telling me there are too many audio channels.. so I know it is due to this selection. The file information tells me I have two AAC 44100 Hz Stereo files as part of the video, when I change it to mp4 or h264 file formats it does import but the video/audio are not in sync when played through on Premiere Pro but are totally fine in QuickTime player.. also the second audio channel is a lot quieter when being played through on Premiere Pro than in QuickTime.
So, I hoping someone has came across this software or this problem and can help me. So I have two 44100 Hz stereo files within the video and the selection I am using says it can take up to three stereo files, so why is it telling me it can't import because there's too many audio channels??? I've tried changing the video to h.264, mp4 and they just struggle with the video being too slow and avi. just has the same issues as .mov.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you.

Why do you convert the media to start with? Are you aware of that you are converting the camera's MPEG2 to the MPEG2 you get when creating the new MXF file? (XDCAM HD = MPEG2)
I would never ever re-compress/convert the already-in-camera-compressed MPEG2 to compressed MPEG2 for editing and then having it to end up in let's say either MPEG2-DVD or H.264. You loose one generation and i would not want to lose it by re-encoding to MPEG2 since, imo, re-encodong MPEG2 to MPEG2 should be avoided. (MPEG2 to MPEG2 = The quality is degraded too much) If you still want to re-encode the footage i would use another codec, DNxHD/CineForm/Lagarith. (Pick your favorite)
You can use the MXF files from Canon XF Utility in CS6. (The files MXF are just copied from the original folder structure, so no re-encoding is done.)
AFAIK, the problems with tearing video go away by using the MXF files you get from XF Utility. If the tearing is still present, close Pr and delete all Cache files. Open Pr and let the Generating Peak file finish.
AFAIK 8 audio channels are standard in MXF OP1a according to SMPTE D10.

  • Getting FCPX to correctly group 4 audio channels from my HPX-250

Hey folks, this is something that has been frustrating for some time and still stumps me despite FCPX 10.0.6's audio improvements.
Is there any way that I can efficiently get event browser clips to correctly allocate my four audio channels to mono/stereo groups?  In almost all cases, I want channels 1 and 2 to be mono, while channels 3 and 4 should be stereo.  But FCPX rarely gets this right upon analysis, and none of the available Channel Configuration options reflect what I generally record on my camera.
As a result, I spend a great deal of time seperating and then manually recombining audio channels in the timeline.  It would be much easier if I could simply tell FCPX in the event browser how the audio of the clips should be configured.
    Thank you for any tips.

I can access the channel configuration in the Inspector after clicking on the clip in the Event Browser.  When I do that, all four channels are gathered into one channel configuration.  My choices are:
    Four mono
    Two stereo
    Left, Right, Center, Surround
    Reset
None of these choices reflect the structure of the audio that my camera recorded.  In fact, channels 3 and 4 are stereo while channels 1 and 2 are generally monaural sources.
Generally, I end up manually adjusting the pan of channels 3 and 4 in each and every clip in the timeline, which is time consuming.  It would be much better if I could simply select all the clips in the Event Browser and tell FCPX what the channel configuration is.

  • Accessing both AUDIO CHANNELS

I only taped on one channel for a certain section of my footage. I cannot hear it in FCP even when I go to MODIFY and adjust the PAN settings. When I looked in the CAPTURE settings I see that only channel 2 was selected, NOT channel 1. If I captured this way does it mean that only channel 2 is captured?
    What else can I do?
    Thanks

Load the clip into the Viewer from the Browser. Is there only one audio channel? If so, it means that you only captured one channel (unless you've previously modified it somehow).
You can recapture the clip(s) completely, this time with both channels selected ... or you can just capture the remaining audio channel.

  • How to show different recorded audio channels in timeline

I've recorded an interview with two microphones (one was really bad, so I only want to use the other recorded microphone). I imported the clip from the tape camera into FCP X. Now in FCP X on the timeline I only see one audio track when I seperate it from the video. The two microphones seems to be 'mixed'. This was different in FCP 7 where you see both audio channels seperated.
How do I manage to seperate the 2 audio channels into 2 channels. I'v troed with Channel Configuration via Audio Inspector but I do not understand it.
    Thanks, Pim

Select the clip in the timeline and in the audio tab in the inspector in the channels seection switch to dual mono. You can switch off a track here if you wish.

  • Which verison of FMLE can support 5.1 or 7.1 audio channel

    Hi all,
Did anyone know which version of FMLE can encode the multi audio channel file for streamming? Or anyone knows how to do it using adobe products? thanks

It is some problems related to the using sound cards. Most of them are related to the fact that NI has done a VERY poor job with the sound interface. The sound system is full of bugs. And NI do care to do anything with that fact at all. I am also somewhat uncertain on how many channels the NI sound system support. I Think it is four but it could also be six.
Another fact is that neither Labview or Windows is a real-time system. So you have to write data in chunks to the sound card. The NI labview sound system will fail more or less if you update more than about 10 times pr second. But within this limitations something may certainly be done.
You can also use this sound system. http://www.zeitnitz.de/Christian/waveio The difference is that this sound system interface. Is all that the Labview soundsystem is not. It supports up to six channels I think. And it works. The NI sound system do not. But with this system you also have to forget all about so called realtime performance
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Garbled left audio channel in MuVu Mi

When I attempt to play back MP3's with my MuVu N200, the left audio channel is completely garbled almost beyond recognition. This only affects music, not recorded wav's or radio signals.
I've tried formatting it, tried different files, different bitrate files, and I still have the same trouble. I've even moved files back onto my computer, and they sounded great.
Is there any known trouble with MP3 decoding?

Actually, eh, it was fine until I updated the firmware.
I'd go back to the OEM defaults (I really don't think I'll use it to play WMA files), but I can't find it anywhere on Creative's website.

  • Premiere 7 - stereo sound exports without one audio channel

    Hi there.
I have a strange problem with Adobe Premiere 7.0.
Every time I export a wideo it looses one audio channel - the right one. I have no idea why.
I have a stereo audio file in my Timeline and it plays in stereo during editing.
I choose stereo sound for export, try different codecs and formats but nothing helps. After rendering the movie lacks the right audio channel.
I've double-checked the source audio file in GoldWave - it does have the sound in both channels.
Then I've double-checked the audio from the rendered movie - no right channel.
What might be the source of this problem?
    Thank you for you help.
    Best regards,
    Szymon.

Thank you for your answer A.T.
The screens were from the GoldWave program (similar to Audacity). I've checked the original and rendered versions in Adobre Premiere. The rendered one does not have audio channel.

  • Use audio channel strip settings for instrument channel

How can I use the library of audio channel strip settings for an an instrument channel? I use a virtual guitar (RealStrat from MusicLab) and want to apply one of those beautiful audio channel strip settings for guitars to my virtual instrument.
    Best, Dietmar

    This works great, thank You
Is there a way to select the next audio channel strip setting with a keyboard shortcut? I can open the channel strip setting pop up menu with the option key pressed and select "Next channel strip setting" from the pop up menu, but that's not comfortable if You want to listen through 10 or 20 settings When I use the keyboard shortcut "Next channel strip setting" the next _software instrument_ channel strip setting is loaded ...
Is there a way to make the _library display the audio channel strip settings_ for an instrument channel?

  • Left & Right audio channels not linked...

I upgraded my system and had to re-install FCE from scratch and (of course) I lost all my system preferences and filters & such. My one annoyance now is that my audio channels (L & R) are now independant of one another -- if I lower one, the other remains unchanged and then I have to go lower it as well. Is there any way to re-link the two audio channels together? It was like that on my old system.
    Thanks.

That much I figured out -- is there any way to make that a permanent setting when I capture? That's the part that's escaping me. Thanks for your help, BTW.

  • How can I separate voice from game sounds in a audio channel?

Hello, I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I want to know how can I separate my voice from the game audio from a video gameplay who are in the same audio channel.

As far as I know this cannot be done. Unless you do some really, REALLY intense editing in Adobe Audition.
I am a fellow lets-player and what I do is record my microphone input with a free-ware program called Audacity and record the game sounds with Mirillis Action! (or FRAPS, whatever you use). This way my voice and the game sounds are seperate.

  • Goal: Burn iDVD w/Chapters & 2 Audio Channels

I have 10 songs each with video and two audio channels. I want the dvd to go from one song to the next, but also want to have chapters so that I can quickly get to #8 from #4 (for example). What I've tried:
    1) Export individual songs via QuickTime - the two audio channels flattened into one. Gotta have 2 discreet that can be controlled via mixer.
    2) Exported all 10 as one sequence with a chapter marker for each song via QuickTime Conversion - got 2 stereo channels - poifect - but only one long 'chapter', the only way I can move thru is via FastForward - not good.
Manuals say just add chapter markers (not at beginning, >1 second apart from each other, only 99, etc), but I can't get them to function in iDVD.
SHOULD QuickTime keep two audio channels, if so, how do I do it?
SHOULD I be using QuickTime Conversion - does it toss the markers?
    Help and Thanx

I've found the articles on Ken Stone's site about chapter markers and preparing Final Cut materials for iDVD extremely helpful. I would suggest you check them out and try the suggested workflows. The site address is www.kenstone.net
    Best of luck.
