Admin installation

Every time I have tried to install Adobe AIR it has come up with this error message:
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator.
(Note: I AM the admin of the computer) I've tried almost everything I can to sort it, from unhiding the windows admin account, using the cmd box, everything I can find, but there is absolutely no change at all.
I'm running on Windows 7, if that helps, and I'm not entirely sure how to get a 'log' to show you, but either way.
I'd be really grateful for any help, as I need AIR to run EA Downloads Manager.
Thanks!

I have a problem also in combination with EA Downloads Manager and Adobe Air on a windows vista ulitmate 32 bit system.
Installation of Adobe Air hangs - screenshot ( I waited 24 hours then killed it with task manager)
There  is no error message displayed.
I deinstalled both progams, EA downloader and Adobe Air.   Then I tried to reinstall adobe airmanually before EA Download Manager , also this installation of Adobe Air does not work.
It is same as written before (screenshot).

  • Discoverer Admin installation error

    Hi,
I am getting this error when installing Discoverer Admin (Business Intelligence Tools 10g 10.1.2.0.0) on my win XP sp1 workstation. It says that it cannot install onto an existing oracle home where oracle database 9.0 or higher database is installed. I do have 9i client and 10g client installed on my workstation. Is there anyway around this without having to uninstall everything?
    Thanks,

    Hey.
I finally solved my own problem. It's not exactly the most elegant way, but I had to trick the installer into thinking this was a fresh install. under c:\program files\oracle\inventory there is a install.platform file. I changed the value in it to some other version from 912. The oui then complained that the inventory could not be found and would not move forward. I then went back and changed the value back to 912 and then clicked next in the oui again. This time it thought this was a fresh installation and I was able to specify another inventory directory. which I did. After that, the install went through. But I did not exit the oui when I modified the file.
    Hope this helps others.
    Thanks,
    Piyush

  • Discoverer Admin Installation

I have a Oracle 8i on my NT 2000 machine and try to add Discoverer Admin 3.1 on top of it. I tried couple times and created 3 Oracle Homes and still get error message "Oracle Discoverer does not support multiple installations, .... It can be installed on 'OraHome81'". As OraHome81 is for the server, what can I do now? Is there any tech note talking about Installation of Discoverer and how to be installed with Oracle Server. Thanks in advance.

There is a technical Note: 123675.1 available via Oracle Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com) that describes how to install Discoverer where you have multiple Oracle homes.

  • Admin installation Adobe Acrobat reader 10.1.2

I want to use  Adobe customization tool wizard X to modify installation package for Adobe Acrobat reader 10.1.2 , however when I download the installation file "install_reader10_en_air_gtbd_aih.exe" from Adobe website I am unable to extract installation package, I have followed instructions from admin guide but I have no luck, instead of extracting the files the program just goes through installation.
This is the command line that I have used. After installation c:\temp directory is empty, any help is greatly appreciated.
    install_reader10_en_air_gtbd_aih.exe -sfx_ne -sfx_o"c:\temp

As ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ mentioned, you will need to download the EXE installer prior to running your command. But please note that the extracted MSI extracted will be a stripped MSI and will require the accompanying Data1.Cab present in the same extracted folder.
If you wish to use only one MSI, you will need to download the MSI installer using the FTP link provided by ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ

  • Package manager non admin installs failing

    Hi, hoping someone could help.
I'm attempting to make a .pkg installer; the installer basically installs my program (configurable by the user, but typically will be to a subfolder of their home directory), and then runs a postflight script. Neither of these actions (I believe) should require root access; the script simply makes some changes (via sed) to some of the files installed, and then launches another .pkg file (via open) which was installed along with everything else in the directory the user chose.
When creating the pkg I selected "No authorization required", as I would like users without root access to be able to install my software, if possible.
Attached is the error log produced when my .pkg was run. It seems to be an error deleting the package's scratch temp folder. Any illumination provided would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Ok, a colleague with more unix understanding than I helped me work through this.
When the installer is run, the entire contents of the pkg are copied to PKInstallSandbox-tmp, into a structure mimicking the one they're going to be installed into.
My project file was set up to preserve the permissions for each file and folder within an app bundle that was a component in the pkg. the problem was, some of those files were not even owner writable - they looked like -r-xr-xr-x. When the installer was run without root authorization, it was then unable to delete these files which were in subdirectories below PKInstallSandbox-tmp, hence it was unable to delete PKInstallSandbox-tmp. Since successfully doing this cleanup was (apparently) a make-or-break step in the installation procedure, the entire install failed. After discussion, the files in question didn't need to be unwritable by anyone, so I just chmod u+w'd them before putting them into the pkg and all was well.
Not sure why this issue only reared its ugly head when I had scripts activated, but it didn't appear when I had them disabled. Hence it seemed to me to be script-related, but it wasn't.
    At any rate, solved.

  • ARD admin Installation

    Hi,
I have a stupid question. Does ARD admin need to be installed in a server, Xserver or OS X Server? Can it be installed on any OS X machine, like imac, or mini?
    Thanks.

The reason I asked the question is because the 2.0 has quitted unexpectedly on my mini. I thought I shouldn't install it on workstation. So, I went to apple support site, and they suggest to upgrade to version 2.2.
I have no problem now. Thanks.

  • Accessing Essbase database from BI Admin tool

    Hi,
I want to create a new RPD using Essbase database.
I want to know how to configure Essbase data source so that I can use it for my rpd file.
I have BI server installed on server machine and BI admin tool on my laptop
    I am using version 11.1.1.5.0
From manual what I understood that on BI server machine, Essbase client libraries must be installed and the same client libraries should also be installed on machine where BI admin tool is installed.
I tried to ask my collegues, but got different openions. Some of them said essbase client libraries are not required on machine where BI admin tool is installed.
Please tell me correct way and step to configure Essbase as datasource for my RPD, wether I need to create a DSN on my laptop poiting to Essbase datasouce , etc.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Bala..
    Thanks for your help
Can you tell me where is the bi-init.cmd file located?
I installed BI admin tool on my laptop, but could not find this file in any folder..
According to manual, I understand that to access Essbase data source, I need to install Essbase client libraries on BI server and on laptop where where BI admin tool is installed and
creeate two variables and set them in bi-init.cmd file.
Nw I want to know whether I need to create those two variabvles on BI server machine and update bi-init.cmd file on BI server or I need to create those two variables on my laptop where I have installed BI admin tool? As I mentioned above I dont see any bi-init.cmd file in BI admin installation which I did on my laptop.
Either my installation has not happened, or this file is created on BI server and not on my laptop ?
Please help me to understand the problem. I need to create Essbase datasousrce connectibvity and create a RPD based on this data source.
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks

Neither OpenSSO nor CentOS are Oracle products and although you're using VirtualBox somewhere within your kit, your question has no place in these OTN forums.
Oracle may have briefly acquired OpenSSO when they purchased Sun Microsystems but has since thrown it out to the open development community. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSSO
Additionally, you cross-posted your inquiry to at least one other forum site and failed to mention that fact:
    http://streamshare.streamserve.com/Forum/Topic/?topicID=4955
    That is poor forum etiquette.
So, to avoid people duplicating efforts to assist by saying the same thing that you might have already been told elsewhere, this thread is locked.

  • Problems with Webstart installer

In our Windows 2000 workstation configuration normal users are not allowed to install programs, which modify the registry. Thus, administrator priviledges are required to install Java Webstart.
The problem is that when the normal user logs into the machine the webstart icon does not show up on the user's desktop (because the admin has installed it).
Therefore, I assume that the desktop icon is written to the installing user's desktop folder (the admin). I assume that the icon should be stored in the All Users desktop folder to avoid the problem.
Of course, it is not difficult to create the shortcut for other users, however, if you have to do a lot of webstart installations, it is better if this is already accomplished by the installer.
I would appreciate, if the JWS Team could address this issue soon.
    Kind regards
    Thomas Glden
    [email protected]

In our Windows 2000 workstation configuration normal
users are not allowed to install programs, which
modify the registry.Sounds typical. I hope such issues will be solved, because many people will try to use Web Start for deployment in medium to larger companies. These have full time admins, who will enforce stricter security permissions than the usual user is admin mess. :)
It would be interesting to check the available Web Start sources regarding to what registry entries are set/modified by Web Start installation.
The ones I am aware of have to do with the MIME registration of Web Start, thus that mechanism that will
activate the Web Start client, when a link to a .jnlp URL is hit from the web browser.
Thus I wonder what will happen if you try two Web Start installations:
    1. admin installation that will do the mime registrations
    2. user installation that will perhaps notice that the mime registration has already been done and just set up the user specific stuff, like user cache and user desktop icons

  • Cannot update admin install with 8.2.2 patch

I have created an admin installer with update 8.2.1 and now trying to patch with 8.2.2.
I am getting the following error:
I am fairly new to this process, but had no problem patching to 8.2.1, but 8.2.2 is giving me a problem.
I have also tried patching a machine that was running 8.2.1 with the latest 8.2.2 msp file and I get the same error. Can I not upgrade machines this way?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

I was hoping someone could answer this. I am having the same problem.  I couldn't
update my admin install either, so I ended up recreating it and leaving the 8.2.1 update out.
That worked and I have an 8.2.2 admin install, but it won't reinstall on workstations with 8.2.1.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    TIA

  • Problem with Adobe 9.1.3 (AIP) and previous Reader versions?

    Hi all,
I'm new to using Administrative Installs when it comes to Adobe Reader, so please bare with me
I've put together an AIP for Adobe Reader 9.1.3. I took the 'base' of 9.1.0, and integrated 9.1.1, 9.1.2, 9.1.3 and also did some final customisation with the Adobe Customisation Wizard.
To help give you some background scenario:
Our initial workstation image originally went out a few years back, so we've got lots of these still around our site (perhaps 1000). These were originally installed with Reader 8.x. In the meantime, a newer image went out with Reader 9.1.0.
As our users are allowed to have full admin rights over their workstations, they are able to update their Acrobat Reader's when the update window pops up, however, in reality, some users are always updating as soon as the update is made available, other's don't seem to update hardly at all (luckily, we push the Windows updates down so they don't get a choice with those!!!).
As we don't automatically re-image all users when a new image is created (it's more based on whenever they get a new PC, or experience big problems), this has led to a situation, where our workstations (approx. 2000), can have any version effectively of Adobe Reader - from 8.x to 9.1.x.
I built the integrated incremental update install in the expectation that this would basically update anything that is currently out there, i.e.
    Reader 8.x - update to 9.1.3
    Reader 9.1.0 > 9.1.2 - update to 9.1.3
    Reader 9.1.3 - no update
Having tested this by distributing with SMS 2003, it appears that our 9.1.3 admin install version will happily update Reader 8.x (tried 8.1.0, 8.1.2, 8.1.6) fine, yet as soon as it encounters any occurences of 9.1.x, it fails with the error "Another version of this product is already installed...."
I would have presumed that a 'slip-streamed' 9.1.3 install would still be able to detect earlier versions of Reader 9 (9.1.0 > 9.1.2) and update them, as surely the Upgrade tables in the MSI's would support this - in fact, I've looked at the Upgrade tables in our 9.1.3 integrated admin install and they do have the ness. upgrade codes for 7/8/9.1.x, so I'm confused as to why this doesn't work.
I'm presuming that if I tinker around with the Upgrade tables, I should in effect be able to force this MSI to always upgrade a 9.1.x, but has anyone else suffered with this previously when using integrated updates in admin installs? Do you have any details on what I could alter in the tables, as I don't understand why this shouldn't work?
Thanks in advance, this is proving to be most frustrating!!!

  • Upgrade oracle 10.2.0.3 32bit to oracle 11.1.7 x64

    Hi There,
I'm trying to upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.3 to 11.1.7 and I'm wondering what's the best way of doing this.
THe problem is that production server is windows 2003 server 32 bit running oracle 10.2.0.3 standard edition.
The new server is windows 2008 server, 64bit. I have managed to install oracle 11.1.7 on it, so my question is what's teh best approach to do the DB migration? does it matter if the old DB files are in 32bit?
I couldnt find oracle 10.2.0.3 x64 on the oracle site as I was thinking of installing that on the new machine, do cold backup of DB and copy all the files to the new server, startup the DB on the new server, and then run DBUA.
I also managed to install oracle 10.2.0.4 on the new server, is it possible to dpow the foolowing:
    1. cold backup the DB on the current production server.
    2. move the backup to the new server
    3. using 10.2.0.4 executables, do startup mount
    4. rename datafiles from old location to new location
    5. shutdown immediate
    6. startup upgrade
    7. run @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
would the above work? any concerns? or tips? or any advises please?
    Thanks

Mohammed at al, you are not correct - sorry to say that but a 32=>64-bit change will be handled implicitly by the database by invalidating packages etc.
    Your way would be:
    1) Run utlu111i.sql from your new %OH%\rdbms\admin installation on your "old" 10.2. installation (copy it over and run it from SQL*Plus 10.2)
If you have just an spfile then do a 'create pfile from spfile;' to have an editable copy of your spfile.
    2) Shutdown your 10.2. database IMMEDIATE
    3) Copy all relevant files (database files, password file, control files, redolog files and spfile/init.or) to your new server into the identical location
    - if you plan to choose a different location then you'll have to trace the controlfile before on your old server and create a new controlfile
in the new installation to reflect to the new file locations
    4) Create a new service on the new server with: oradim -NEW -SID yoursid -SYSPWD passwrd -STARTMODE a -PFILE initfile
    5) Create a new listener service on your new server with "netca"
    6) Make all suggested changes from the utlu111i.sql script output to your init.ora.
    7) Startup your database in upgrade mode 'startup upgrade'
    8) Run 'catupgrd.sql'
    9) Once it has been finished then the db will be shutdown - startup normal and run 'utltp.sql' and 'catuppst.sql' in parallel from 2 SQL*Plus sessions
    10) Check with 'utlu111s.sql' if everything has been upgraded successfully.
    Have fun :-)
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • How do I limit access to certain (but not all) applications on my laptop?

    Hello,
Is it possible to reduce access to certain applications (eg Email) while allowing other applications to remain "open" to all users?
I only have one account on my powerbook, and would like to simply prevent access to certain applications.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    thank you,
    nihal

you would need , in following Matt's advice to ensure that the restricted users were not created as admin users. That is, on creation do not click the 'allow this user to administer computer' box. If you tried parental controls on them, you would be told by the OS that you can't restrict an admin.
The better advice would be to restrict the actual use of the single user you have now, who is presumably an admin, to just admin (installations, re configs, set up new users etc) tasks. Change his password so those real people you don't trust (?) couldn't get to him. You could have a 'restricted' user who is not restricted in respect of apps (email, browser etc) but can't admin. Use him yourself for browsing etc and general use. Add another restricted user for(the kids, irresponsible friends and such) who are not admins and can only use certain apps. I am aware that is not precisely what you asked.
