Adobe 5, scanner recognition

I have an Epson all in one 7400 and after my computer crashed, I reinstalled Adobe 5 and the drivers for the 7400. Since the reinstallation Adobe 5 will not recognize the printer/scanner. Is there anyone who can help me with this problem??

Adobe Acrobat Scanner Presets do not save

In my version of Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 I can go to Configure Presets in the Scanning option and make changes.
I click Save, but the next time I open up the presets, they have gone back to the default settings.
Closing and opening Acrobat 9 has no effect. I can go right back to the presets after changing and saving them and my changes are gone.
I have rebuilt my profile and uninstall/rebooted/reinstalled Adobe Pro with the same results.
Is there something in the registry that I need to modify for those changes to stay?

How about your other settings in Acrobat (anything in the preferences dialog), do they persist ?

Scanner Recognition Problems

I don't see any problems like mine posted, so I hope someone can help.
I'm an artist (stop laughing) who's had this problem the past month.
In a nutshell.
My scanner (HP 3570c) ceased to work after a recent move. I got a window saying the computer couldn't find it. The System Profiler didn't show it nor did the scanner actually boot when plugged in. I replaced the scanner and upgraded to OSX tiger (from OS 9.2.2). Scanner works fine, but the Computer still couldn't find it.
I did an Uninstall; Turned off Extensions; Checked with and applied all the manufacturer's troubleshooting standards (and I do mean all of 'em).
The computer still couldn't find the scanner.
Un/Reinstalled the software another 5 times, still no scanner.
I have four questions.
Am I missing some scanner prefs or extensions that may be corrupted?
Is this where a PC card needs to be replaced?
Will buying another scanner solve the problem?
What am I missing?

For many jobs the digital camera works fine but when you
need a scanner it really does a better job.
Point. ADF fuction is a PITA to do with the camera.
Scsi scanners and X are an exercise in making your
head hurt imho.
Oh, yea. Got tired of fighting with it, and could not find a decently priced 8x14 scanner....Thats why I switched to the camera
If you have a legacy scsi scanner, use it in os9. 9 loves >scsi.
True, and I still can dual boot If I really need to.
It's all situational.
The other reason I use the camera is my scanner is truely Legacy with a capital L....it is but 300dpi, and my camera is 2600...the PITA making a multipage is a trade off for the image quality.

Optical Scanner Recognition (OCR) for the MAC

I'm looking for OCR software for the Mac. Does anyone have recommendations? I'm scanning to .pdf with a commercial scanner on a PC platform. I'm trying to convert .pdf documents to Pages. Any suggestions??

There is venerable OmniPage Pro X, which has not been updated in a long time, but still does a good job. You can get it at a substantial discount without too much trouble. Installing it can be difficult, and you might need to change the permissions on the folder it is installed into. This is what I use.
There is ABBYY Finereader. A version came with one of my scanners, and it had some quirks, but I cannot advise you on the commercial version which is fairly new on the market.
ReadIris Pro is available. I have no experience with it.
Vuescan has it, but I have not been able to get it to work. I would need to experiment. Acrobat has it; the result is PDF. I have no experience with it.

Scanner recognition

PSE9 apparently can't see my Microtek ScanMaker 6800. It says there's no compatible device connected. PSE7 and all my other programs are having no problem with seeing the scanwizard driver and utility.
I'm running WIN7 Ultimate 64.

You're link to the knowledge base and observations about the install of twain_8ba into the propoer folder for PSE9 was the ticket for success. I don't install programs to default C:\ Program Files (x86) locations when I can avoid it. I have "program" drives for seperating these things from my operating ssystem. The twain file was there in PSE 9, just not in the \locales * folder as you observed. The ScanWizard driver showed immediately after installation in the proper folder.

Scanner not working properly on Adobe Pro XI

Running Adobe Pro for Mac with OS X 10.9. After installing new Multifunction CANION MG5550 in my network. He is working perfectly as printer and scanner with CANON software.
When scanning from Adobe Pro, scanner is detected, overview scan is done but when real scan is executed and completed, Adobe shuts down. How can I solve this error?

Reinstalled Adobe Acrobat XI Pro after upgrading to windows 8.1 and now cannot scan through Adobe, although Scanner says its combatible with Windows 8. Cannot reinstall drivers because Brother claims they're built-in. Help!

I am using a Brother MFC 8460N and on Brother's site it says its compatible with win 8.1 and that the driver is already installed. When I try to scan I am told there is no preset (there was with win 7 though) and I have to "custom scan." When I try that, I hear a sound as if the printer is trying to scan, but the feeder can't pull the paper through. I then get a blank .pdf as my scan. Thanks for your advice. I will try that.

OCR text with strange spacing

We are OCRing large numbers of PDF documents using Abbyy FineReader 9.0 - the recognised text that you can see within the Abbyy program looks great, but if you save the OCR'd files as PDFs & then copy/paste the text out of the resulting PDF file opened in Adobe Acrobat Prof 8.0, there is often a space between each character, making the text search function useless! Has anyone else encountered this? This problem doesn't occur if you copy/paste the text from the same PDF doc in earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat......Abbyy customer service has been completely useless, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much for your email. Our problem is that we are mainly doing batch OCRing, as we have thousands of documents being digitized - do you happen to know if Adobe supports text recognition in batches within Acrobat, or within some other Adobe software?

On Feb 22, 2010, File Attachments were disabled... with the caveat that it was temporary. That 'Temporarily' now seems to be a joke... at whose expense i wonder...
Because, today, many moons and even more suns later ( i refuse to count), it still remains disabled...

I only have the status of Community Professional and Moderator helper because I've been a tireless forums supporter since long before Adobe entered my world. In other words, I'm basically a simple user same as you. I'm a total volunteer that freely shares my time and I do not receive a paycheck from Adobe. Only recognition for being helpful to others. The forums activity for Jive only paint a partial picture because I've been through about six different incarnations of assorted forums software. Some I liked and some I didn't. But it's what we have to work with.
So please do tell us of your vast experience supporting forums that support a hundred or so products, thousands of users and probably spanning numerous servers. Obviously you seem to feel that you know much better than the folks at Adobe how things should be run. Personally I do not envy the position of Adobe and the folks that are responsible for maintenance of our community. They probably have Adobe management on one side screaming that they need to cut costs while they have the user community on the other telling them how bad things are with the community and the forums.
I never claimed things were perfect. All I did was state the facts as I see them. And the facts are that (pay close attention to this because it seems lost for so many) in the areas where I particpate we didn't see the world ending as some would like to paint the picture. Nobody left in disgust because the house was painted a different color and the room arrangement was different. The forums have shortcomings for sure. I openly said that all software has bugs. I meant the forums were no exception to this because they are software. I'm not saying this holds true for all forums. Only the ones where I participate. I've seen similar reports from other forum moderators here.
As for FAQs, I myself have created FAQs for my own fora and can attest that the majority of users simply ignore them. So even if they exist, you STILL end up answering many basic questions day after day from new users. Such is the nature of forums support. The way you get used to it is by remembering that we all are new to things and need help. So we create FAQs and hope for the best.
Basically you are saying that the forums simply aren't worth visiting. So this begs the following question. I will note that everyone has their own reasons for doing so and by asking you this please note that I'm in no way suggesting you should consider leaving. I'm genuinely interested to know what it is that keeps folks such as yourself and Phillip visiting day after day if you honestly feel the forums have nothing left to offer.

In the past I would simply place a copy of the document on my scanner, then selected create PDF from scanner. However, there is now no create PDF from scanner alternative, option or choice. The only option available is selected file to convert to PDF. what am I to do?

That would have been a function of your scanning software. Adobe Reader is only used to view the pdf that your scanning software created.

You can't do this in Reader. It must be done in Acrobat on Windows or Macintosh.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard does not reconize scanner

I have my HP 6280 Printer/Scanner set up as a network device. When I try to scan a document, I get an error message that Adobe does not reconize the requested device. It worked for a while after installation, but has since stopped. Scanner works with other programs, how can i correct this problem? Dell Laptop using Windows 7 Pro.

Are you running at least version 9.2 of Acrobat? Are you able to log in with a new user account on Windows to see if it works?

Acrobat however still sees Fujitsu fi-6130dj #3. I need it to see Fujitsu fi-6130dj which is what is listed in Device Manager. (Windows XP SP3).

To provide more detail and list what was done to resolve the issue but there may be a better way.
Background. When you install a USB device to a PC it is listed in Windows Device Manager as installed hardware. If you take the USB plug for any device and plug it into a different USB port on the PC the PC will install drivers again for that device. In Device Manager, if you set a system environment variable for device manager to show non-present devices you can see all of the times this may have occurred. In this specific instance there were five installations in Device Manager for one piece of hardware, a Fujitsu fi-6130 scanner. The first listing was Fujitsu fi-6130dj, then Fujitsu fi-6130dj #2, Fujitsu fi-6130dj #3 and so on. Adobe Acrobat only saw the third instance of these drivers being installed. Once I cleaned Device Manager of all Fujitsu scanner installs I was able to have a single set of drivers installed for this Fujitsu but Adobe still recognized the third instance of the driver install and I could not figure out how to force it to see what Device Manager was seeing, a single instance of the scanner being installed (with no #3 behind it).
Steps performed to try to resolve.
Repair install of Adobe - no luck - still sees the #3 instance of the scanner
Deactivation, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reactivation of Adobe - no luck, same behavior as above
Complete removal of all scanner related software. This included the ISIS drivers in Add/Remove Programs and all other related software. This also included deleting the contents of the TWAIN_32 directory found within the root of the Windows directory and also included deleting the scanner from Device Manager.
Rebooted.
Reinstalled complete packages of both TWAIN and ISIS scanners - with the scanner disconnected. Powered the scanner back on and let Windows install the drivers for the hardware. Only at this point did Adobe see the new install of the Fujitsu scanner and no longer looked for the #3 instance of that scanner install.

Provide you have Acrobat 9 installed in an OS for which Acrobat 9 is compatible then you can use the functionality.
As well, you need a scanner connected, powered up, and the software installed. Acrobat 9 "prefers" TWAIN drivers.
Always visit the scanner vendor's site and download - install the latest greatest software.
n.b., The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.
As well the Acrobat 9.x product family is not compatible with contemporary OSs.
