Adobe CC typekit font usage within Software / Apps

Hello!
from the font licencing center it wasn't really clear to me how the licence is regarding the usage of fonts in apps.
Lets say I have a creative cloud subscription, so I'm able to use all fonts from the Typekit lib.
If i use a font in an app design, which im going to sell on the appstore, how will the licence situation be once i quit the CC subscription model?
Of course I dont want to remove the app from the appstore. Meaning the app will continue to sell, without me having the licence for the used font anymore?
thanks and best regards,
fabian

Hi Fabian,
Thanks for your interest in Typekit!  The font licensing through Typekit does not include the option to embed the fonts in a native app. In order to use a font in an app, you will need to purchase a separate license from the foundry.
For more details, please refer to the "Typekit Font Licensing" help page.
We hope to be able to support embedded fonts in the future, but it isn't available at this time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help; please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Typekit font usage (2 interrelated questions)

    Dear all
I'm having two problems with my fonts.
    (1) the typekit fonts arn't loading before the page, making the alternate fonts load  (and the page load awkwardly) then replacing them with the typekit fonts.
    (2) While I dislike the alternate fonts, I see a need to make sure they work well  - can you toggle the typekit fonts on and off to make sure the alternate fonts won't mess up your design?

    Thank you,

    Hi William,
It sounds like you're seeing something called FOUT, or the flash of unstyled text. Fonts are loaded as assets into a web page, and depending on your browser or your connection speed, they can load quickly or lag a bit behind the rest of the page. Typekit gives you tools for controlling the FOUT, which you can learn all about here: http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/6852
That being said, I took a look at the site but didn't notice any FOUT issues. Also, in order to control the CSS for fallback fonts, you can use our Font Events that help with the FOUT. Take a look at this article for more information: http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/693940-specifying-fallback-fonts
I hope this helps. If you have any further quesitons, feel free to drop Typekit Support a line at: [email protected]

  • Typekit - fonts usage after cancelling the subscription

    Hello,
I currently have an Adobe subsription which allows me to use Typekit services for website development. I'd like to know whether using the fonts on my website after cancelling my subscription will be in any way considered a violation of the agreement.
    Regards,
    Elik

    Hi Razora,
When we talk about Creative cloud, it is Yearly or monthly based subscripotion. As long as you pay, your Creative cloud keeps on working.
But if you will cancel the subscription, that means your services has stopped and you have stopped paying for your product.
Afterwards, you product will trun in to TRIAL mode and if you haven't used the TRIAL before, it will work for 30 days and then it will stop working eventually.
P.S. when using the adobe forums, please mark helpful/correct responses of Staff or helper, if there are any.

  • Usage of legal fonts for my future app made with DPS?

Hi, I'm about to produce an app made with Adobe DPS - and wonder about the font issue: what fonts am I allowed to use for my publication? I will sell the app later in AppStore, as a 'magazine-feeling' educational app. Export images and type as pdf in folio.
I know Adobe developed an open source font, the Adobe Source Sans Pro (and later also Adobe Source Serif Pro) - am I allowed to use those fonts in my app - is it ok?
What about the fonts that are included in my InDesign from Adobe? Can I use them in my app too, or?
Does anyone know exactly that is leagal to use? I think this question is difficult to find answers to - help really appreciated
    All the best, Christina

    Hi to all!
I thought, this whole legal font licensing stuff was a bit more complicated, and I'm glad that I found this thread.
First of all, the list Bob posted says, that "you may embed copies of the font software into your DPS content without any additional license extensions or per-use costs". If I understand it right, this does NOT mean that you can use any of the listed fonts without purchasing a license from Adobe. It only means, that you can use them without any ADDITIONAL license for mobile app usage.
Christina is looking for a free to use font without the need to purchase any license at all, am I right?
On the other hand the FAQs on http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/1341590-typekit-font-licensing say, that
"Neither the Typekit sync font license or web font license allows you to embed the fonts within mobile or desktop apps. Currently, this requires the appropriate license to be purchased directly from the foundry or one of their authorized resellers."
In Typekit you can choose if the the desired font should be available for web use and/or for desktop use. It would be nice if there was a third option for mobile app use. This and other facts show me, that digital publishing through Adobe and the usability and accessibility of it's related services is still improvable. Well of course it is and you guys really do a great job!
To make a long story short: I'm still really confused.

  • Typekit font not displaying in iPad DPS app (created by Indesign) in Web Content (Edge Animate)

I think I have tried every permutation to make this work, but I am probably missing something.
I am creating a single DPS iPad app with InDesign, and I am using a Typekit font throughout.  So far so good.
I have created an Edge Animate project using the same Typekit font.  In preview mode, it is fine as well.
However, when I place the Edge Animate project into a frame in InDesign and use the Web Content Folio Overlay (regardless of whether I use the .oam file or link directly .html output published by Animate), the Typekit font will not show up in the Edge Animate portion of the DPS app and will instead use a fallback font.
Can anyone suggest a way to make Typekit fonts in Edge Animate work when embedded in a DPS app?  (For what it's worth, I have the same problem when embedding html output from Tumult Hype, so it seems unlikely that this is an issue with Edge Animate at all and probably has more to do with something in the way the DPS app is dealing with embedded html content.)
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Believe me, I understand the pain. Unfortunately there's only so much we can do at Adobe as the EULAs provided by the foundries for their respective fonts are very explicit in where you can and can not use them.
For example, packaging an InDeisgn file and sending it off for pre-press with the fonts included in the package is in direct violation of most font EULAs. In a studio environment, you're only allowed to have a font installed on n number of computers and need to have multiple licenses to accomidate >n number of seats. When creating a PDF, fonts explicitly have to be subsetted before embedding into the PDF.
That's just to paint a picture of the fragile state of using fonts in print, usage in digital mediums is just another bee in your bonnet when it comes to considering when you can and cannot use a font.
Services like Typekit Desktop are trying to make this easier by removing a lot of those pain and condierations for you, by blanketing all these fonts under a single license you're free to use for print and the web. There's still some gotchyas, but we're aiming to greatly reduce how much you have to think about it where we can.
So yes there's a bit of education when it comes to mixing embedded HTML content/fonts with DPS, but at least there's options

  • Can't get TypeKit fonts to work in Adobe Muse!

    HI there!
Just wondering if anybody new how to get purchased fonts from TypeKit to work as HTML in Adobe Muse?
I have tried following the link below but when I go to publish my site the text is still all images.
Problem is I know nothing about code but this seemed pretty straight forward to follow but don't seem
to be getting any luck with it.
I was trying to use the font 'Museo Sans Rounded' and I was told to try maybe other fonts which I did and
also they did not work, but If I just take a font from within the Adobe Muse/TypeKit 'Web Fonts' then this works.
Please could someone explain to me if I'm doing something wrong or if there is a better way of acheiving this?
    Many thanks

    Hi Liz,
Many thanks for getting back to me.
Below are the screen shots of me:
    1. Going into Typekit
    2. Selecting chosen ‘Kit’ and checking that the font ‘Museo Sans Rounded’ is WEB SAFE.
    3. Launching ‘Kit Editor’ and setting the ’Selectors’ > ‘.body’ & ‘.header’ > ‘PUBLISH’
    4. Then I go into Muse and select the ’header' font e.g. I’m a freelance graphic designer &
illustrator based in Bristol.’ then go to ‘Paragraph styles and highlight ‘header’. I then PUBLISH
my site only for it to still be an image.
    Am I doing this correctly?
How do I get the ‘Museo Sans Rounded’ web safe font from Typekit into the window e.g. your screen grab?
I will have a go at putting Arial font into title and then see what happens from there!
    Many thanks

Instead of choosing a system from the font menu, please try selecting one of the "web safe" fonts that are built into Muse, such as Arial. When you re-publish your site, you should see regular text again instead of the images.
    2) using the font from Typekit
Once you have text showing up instead of images, we can work on applying the Typekit fonts.
The kit that you are currently using in your site (ID bnb1odj) doesn't include the font Museo Sans Rounded.  Would you please check in your Kit Editor that you are using the right embed code for your Museo Sans Rounded kit?
You can find the embed code by logging into https://typekit.com, launching your Kit Editor, and clicking the "embed code" link at the top right.   Copy this code and add it to Muse under the Page > Page properties menu item.
Please give that a try, and let me know how it goes!  Once you have republished the site, I can take another look and give you some information on how to set the Typekit fonts in your CSS.
    Thank you,

  • Unlicensed fonts in Adobe Typekit (Font Server)

Right now our company is in negotiations with licensing for the full Adobe CC Suite.
We're looking at utilizing the Adobe Font Server - Typekit since it will be part of the licensing, but we believe we've run into a huge roadblock.
We've come to understand that Typekit doesn't like free fonts that weren't aquired through their list of registered Foundries.
The problem is, we literally have thousands that have been collected over many years we'd need to import.
Has anyone else out there come across this bridge yet?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi David,
Thanks for your reply.  The Typekit logo is included in the missing fonts dialog for several Creative Cloud programs, most noticeably in InDesign.  We have found that this causes confusion as it's not clear that the missing font prompt is often unrelated to Typekit; this will change in a future software update so that you only see the Typekit logo if the fonts that are missing are available for desktop sync.
You can also turn off the Typekit font sync option in your Creative Cloud application, under Preferences > Fonts. This won't remove the logo from the missing fonts window, but may reassure you that Typekit is no longer being invoked by your software programs.
I'm sorry that we can't provide another option at the moment, but it is something we are working on to improve in the near future.  Please let me know if you have any other questions,

  • How do I use Typekit fonts within Edge Animate

I have applied a 'Pragmatica' Typekit font to a website.  I'm using Edge animate to construct some pages and within these pages want to add Type; however, Edge Fonts does not include the Typekit font 'Pragmatica' and the instruction for the page to use Typekit seems not to filter through into the Edge animate section .... is there a way round this?

    Hi, Trimmertop-
When you open up the Web Fonts viewer, you will see Edge Web Fonts by default.  However, there is a tab next to it that says "Custom."  You can stick in your kit code in that location.

  • How do you add/use typekit fonts that are not edge web fonts?

I am just trying out the new Muse CC 2014.1 (August) release and was keen to try the new font facilities.  As far as I can see that while I can now add other fonts for which I have downloaded web font files via the Self Hosted Web Fonts function, Typekit fonts that are not "Adobe Edge Web Fonts" are effectively unavailable?  Have I missed something.
As an example I want to use the Proxima Nova web font family.  I have selected it on the type kit site, set them up to Sync via my Creative Cloud account.  So for example if I select a font in Photoshop CC or Illustrator, the Proxima Nova fonts appear. Even ok in Word for Mac.  They do not appear in Muse.
To add them as self hosted web fonts, I would need to physically download the relevant fonts files and install them on my desktop using the OS-X font tool.  However as they are being sync'd via Creative Cloud this shouldn't be necessary should it?  Also I don't see an option for doing so on the typekit site.
Any help or guidance would be very welcome.
PS:  I seem to have a separate issue with the Creative Cloud app, which is not listing fonts under the Assets tab.  But I don't think that is related as they are working fine for Photoshop, etc.

    Hi David,
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this. To add fonts from Typekit to your Muse website, you will want to use the web fonts path instead of desktop fonts.  (You can use a desktop font synced from Typekit in your Muse design, but it will exported as an image the same as any other system font.)
There are a couple options for using Typekit web fonts in Muse:
    o) The Muse Insider wrote a post on how to insert the Typekit embed code from the Muse interface:
    http://museinsider.com/how-to-add-typekit-fonts-to-your-muse-site.html
    o) Or you can add the embed code to the Page Properties dialog within Muse, which will include it in the <head> of the page when you export your website. The steps are the same as this tutorial, but you will add the Typekit embed code to Muse instead of into your page directly:
TYPEKIT | Adding fonts to your site
Note that in either case the Typekit fonts will not be displayed in the Muse preview window. You'll need to publish your site to a server in order for the Typekit fonts to be loaded into the page.
If those look like more coding that you are comfortable with, you might try one of the fonts which you can select from the font menu instead. Here are some that are similar to :
    https://edgewebfonts.adobe.com/fonts#/?xHeight=high&contrast=low&class=sans-serif&width=re gular
We are also working on a more complete integration of Typekit with Muse in the future, but I can't say yet when that will be available.
    >> PS:  I seem to have a separate issue with the Creative Cloud app, which is not listing fonts under the Assets tab.  But I don't think that is related as they are working fine for Photoshop, etc.
Do you see a "loading" icon in the tab (e.g. a blue spinner wheel)?  It sounds similar to this thread; you might try these suggestions:

I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions.  Best,

  • Typekit fonts not available in Lightroom (and only in Lightroom)

    Hi,
I have been a Creative Cloud member (full membership) for quite a while now and just this week I noticed that Typekit fonts I've synced to my computer are available on all the CC apps I use, except for Lightroom.
The fonts are evidently synced correctly (since I can, for instance, use them within Photoshop CC). However, whenever I try to create a new watermark within Lightroom, my Typekit fonts are nowhere to be found.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, latest Creative Cloud desktop app and all my CC software is up to date. I have searched and roamed the web for hours and have not found a single way to solve this issue.
I have already tried to sign out and back in, restart all apps, restart CC desktop, reboot windows, all while being permanently connected to the internet.
Any thoughts on what I may be missing?
    Best regards
    Javier

    Hi Javier,
Thanks you for sending an email to Typekit Support!  I have forwarded it to our lead Product Manager, and asked him to look into it the bug report with the Lightroom team.  We'll update you again over email once we know more about the bug.
There isn't another workaround to use the fonts from Typekit in your watermark, unfortunately.  If there are one of two fonts you really would like to use, you do have the option of purchasing the desktop license from the foundry and installing the font on your computer.  Once it is installed, it will be added to all the type menus in Lightroom.
If you'd like to look into that, here are the foundry websites for the two fonts you have synced from Typekit:
Felt Tip Roman - Felt Tip Roman – Mark Simonson
FF Market - FF Market fonts from the FontFont Library
And again, we will follow up in your support email with more information as well.  Best,

  • Adobe Illustrator CC (Fonts Question)

I have a few questions regarding Adobe Illustrator CC:
    1.  Does subscription to Adobe Illustrator CC includes a font account (Typekit)?  If so which one?
    2.  Can I use these fonts with my illustrations, graphics, icons, webdesign, banners, logos and sell them?  Can I use these for commercial purpose?
    3.  If my subscription has ended with Adobe Illustrator CC, can I still sell the graphics I have created with the fonts?
I mainly want to start creating different digital illustrations and sell them online.  I just want to ask these questions prior to using the fonts.
    Thank you in advance

Adobe has sold you a license to use the fonts included with the software when you purchased / rented their software.  As I understand it, Type Kit would be separate from the initial install of things like Illustrator and InDesign.  When you purchase a font, you buy the license to use it.  Commercially.  Personally. They're yours with some limitations.  You'd have to read the license agreement to find out what you can do and cannot do with the fonts.  Once you've used the fonts in an illustration, the artwork becomes your property and you are the owner of the copyrights.  Typically, if you'd used a font in your artwork, you would "Create Outlines", thereby converting the font into artwork.  This should be done on a copy of the original artwork that uses the original "live" font.  You sell and distribute the "Outlined" version and keep the original "Live" version for future edits if necessary.  As you move forward with your venture, you should contact a copyright lawyer and discuss your situation with him/her.  Your artwork distributed online will open you up to a slew of vulnerabilities, not to mention piratting ( illegal copying ).  And, you must definitely apply with the US Copyright Office for official copyrights to your artwork.  At a minimum, read the license agreement Adobe supplies you with concerning fonts and font usage.  Also, consider joining The Graphic Artist Guild, NY and getting their handbook which includes details regarding your rights, copyrights, legal issues, etc.

  • Vidaloka - Typekit font or Google font?

When I started building my website some months ago I selected Vidaloka for headings – I am sure it was in Typekit as otherwise (AIUI) only basic Mac fonts can be used.I wanted to give the site a distinctive look and feel – it is supposed to be a bit like a newspaper.
But now it seems to have disappeared from Typekit.
But it is in Google fonts.
I have seen posts telling me that to use the Google font I have to put various bits of HTML in various places, eg page properties and headers. Don't quite understand this  – I come from a newspaper editing background [InDesign is my native app]
My site is londonsriver.com and Vidaloka is used half a dozen times on each of 30 pages.
Do I have to put the HTML code into EVERY HEADING on EVERY PAGE? And then continue doing that with the next 20 pages in the pipeline?
Or is it easier just to find a new Typekit font that looks good and fits?
    Any helpful suggestions welcome.

File sync within the Creative Cloud desktop app is back!  And font sync is now available for the first time.
Looks like it is rolling out gradually. You can register at http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/file-and-typekit-font-sync-rolling-out/
And here's an email I received about it:

That is correct.  This functionality is being rolled out incrementally - that is, some folks will receive access to this first (in fact, some already have it now), and others will be added as soon as we can.
