Adobe Reader Backwards Compatibility

I am currently working in Adobe Reader X, however the project I am working must be compatible with Adobe Reader 6. What kinds of compatibilty issues (if any) should I expect?

There is no such thing as Adobe Reader 9 Pro, so lets get that confusion out of the way. Your co-worker will be using Acrobat Pro 9 (or Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 - but definitely nothing with Reader in the name).
PDF compatability is a fairly complicated issue, and certainly isn't as simple as "you can't read with X what you write with Y".  But since Acrobat 6 (and Adobe Reader 6) things have been pretty stable, with new features added in such a way that they either work or are quietly ignored in older versions. There is something new called PDF Portfolios which must be avoided - and these can be seen as a way of combining PDFs. And fill-in forms are complicated. But apart from that you should be fine.

  • Adobe Reader version compatability

I have a PDF that is compatible with Adobe reader 11.0.2 and I have version 11.0.5 currently installed.  Version 11.0.5 won't open the PDF.  How can I open this PDF? Do I need to specifically download version 11.0.2?
    Thanks for any help!

I can open Reader on its own.  I am trying to download a grant application and when I click on the link that is supposed to open it through Reader it says that Reader is not compatible and that I need to install the latest version of the PDF viewer.  When I click on the link to install the latest version it send me to the Reader installation.  I have installed and tried reinstalling Reader and it hasn't helped.  In the instructions for the grant it only talks about compatability for versions up to 11.0.2 that's why I wasn't sure if maybe the problem is because I have 11.0.5.

  • Adobe reader's compatibility comes up Adobe plug in false

Testing my computers compatibility with a program turned up an error message that "adobe reader plug in false this version of Adobe Reader unsupported ". I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader X 4 times and still have the same problem. When I try to open a document in this program, all I get is a red x in the left corner of the page. I have tried adjusting IE 8s security and preferences in Adobe to no avail.  OS Windows 7 ,IE 8

The post was helpful in that I started looking outside of reader at other possibilities and accidently stumbled on a solution. In receiving a Java update I noticed it was updating a 32 bit Java, after checking the system I found that it was 64 bit, so downloaded 64 bit and problem solved. Thank you

  • Adobe Reader 9 Compatibility Issues

    Hi,
Are there any compatibility issues faced by anyone with ActiveX or Native forms in Adobe Reader 9.0?
    Please do let me know.
    Regards,
    Arafat

I downloaded (5 times) Adobe Reader 9. At 98.7% of the installation process, I get this error message.."The feature you are tying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
"Click OK again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "AdbRdr812_en_us.msi" in the box below.
I have no idea where this file may be, and fully expect Adobe to be able to find its own files!
Since attempting to download Reader 9. I have lost the ability to read .pdf files online, with the error message Can not launch Acrobat".
After Acrobat -says- it's installed itself, I get this error message...
"Error 1714.The older version of Adobe Reader 9 cannot be removed.
    Contact your technical support group."
I am my only technical support group, and really really don't care for this rigamarole, losing "features" I had.
    What is going on?

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X and Adobe Reader 9 compatibility with Mac.

Does Adobe Acrobat Pro X version 10.0.0 and Adobe Reader 9 version 9.2.0 work with Maverick or Yosemite? I don't mind to have a Maverick OS (though may not be easy to get unless old stock).

    '''Problem Solved FINALLY !'''
    Solution:
I just updated my '''Adobe Acrobat X Pro''' to '''Version 10.1.0'''.By the way, I have to complain, Adobe is really slow in solving this problem...
Here is the official link for the Adobe Acrobat update.[http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5135 <click me!>http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5135<click me!>]
After update, the extention changed from "Adobe Acrobat -Create PDF 1.0" into "Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.1". And the '''"Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.1" is compatiable with the firefox 4.0.1'''. A screenshot is attached as a proof.

  • Compatability Problem with Adobe Reader XI

Last week I downloaded the most recent upgrade to Adobe Reader Xi and now cannot open dpf files sent to me.  Troubleshooter posts problem as compatability with application. I repaired ther Acobe Reader application through my Control File without any reesolution to the problem. My system is Windows 7. Should I downgrade to a lower version of Adobe Reader??.   .

Thank you for the quick response!  What I meant to say is that the I am now unable to open the pdf document attachment I receive with incoming e-mails. My e-mail is Windows Live Mail. When an incoming item contains an attachment the right hand “date” column shows a paper-clip image. I am able to open the e-mail itself.  I am then given another icon to activate in order to view the attachment. When I indicate “open” I am given an alert asking if I really wish to open the attachment (e.g., “Do I trust the sender?”)  Normally when I indicate “Yes” the attachment opens and I am able to view the document and its individual pages. However, since downloading the latest Adobe update, the attached document no longer opens. Instead I am given only a “blue screen”—no warning message or repair instructions.  (Incidentally, on the advice of a friend, I have uninstalled Adobe and then reinstalled it with no effect on the problem). Would appreciate any ideas on the problem. Income tax time is coming and pdf can be very essential.

  • What do I do when I get a message that adobe reader 7 is not compatable with windows 8?

What do I need to do when a website sends me a message that my adobe reader 7 is not compatable with windows 8?

Are you using Adobe Reader 7 on Windows 8? If so, the message is probably correct and you should download the latest version of Adobe Reader (which is XI).
If you already have Reader XI, maybe you can give us some more details about where you are at and what you are doing when you get this message.

  • Clear Type compatibility with Adobe Reader 11.0.5

In Windows 7 Ultimate, on screen text for all pdfs using Adobe Reader 11.0.5 is terrible with Clear Type turned on, and not much better with it turned off. But without Clear Type on, text in other programs is lousy.
It seems like a compatibility issue between Windows 7 Clear Type and Adobe Reader 11.0.5.
    What can be done?

Hello, it seems incredible that no one answer to this question, I have the same problem in Windows 7, Adobe Reader does not support ClearType but fortunately there are other programs to display PDF as SumatraPDF or Foxit Reader, hopefully in future updates resolve this problem. Greetings

  • Backward Compatibility of Adobe forms

    hi all,
I am developing Adobe forms for WD ABAP environment. I am using Adobe Live Cycle Designer 8.0 and Adobe Reader 8 for developing and testing those forms.
But when my forms are delivered to the users, who not necessarily run Adobe Reader 8, most of my interactive features dont work.
How can i make my form backward compatible to older versions or atleast let the user know that some features might not run properly in the version they are using....??
    All help will be appreciated.

    Hi Kaushal,
Thanks for the Note, it has helped me answering the client, but still can we by someway get the Adobe Reader version in the users system and may be display a message box that some fields may not work properly or may be askthe user to update the Adobe Reader version...???
And if it is possible will be it done in FormCalc or in my WebDynpro Component...?

  • Compatibility of Adobe Reader International Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 with ME/Hebrew versions of 8.1.3 & 8.1.4

At present, I have Adobe Reader Hebrew version AdbeRdr813_he_IL.exe installed, and I use Internet Explorer 6 SP1 in my Windows 2000 Professional SP4 . The menus and interface in all my Windows 2000 Operating System and installed software are US-English, but the specific menus and interface in my Adobe Reader 8.1.3 are in Hebrew.
Adobe website offers for download ME (Hebrew included inside) Update version AdbeRdrUpd814_all_me_incr.msp, whereas Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 are only available as AdbeRdrUpd815_all_incr.msp and AdbeRdrUpd816_all_incr.msp, without explicit mention of Hebrew or Middle-East (ME) languages compatibility.
Is it compatible and adviseable to download and apply these International Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 directly to the basic Adobe Reader Hebrew 8.1.3 , or first install ME 8.1.4, or directly install International Update 8.1.6 onto Hebrew 8.1.3, thus bypassing ME 8.1.4 & 8.1.5?
Alternatively, should I patiently wait till ME/Hebrew versions of Updates 8.1.5 & 8.1.6 will be offered for download by Adobe?
Note that my main interest is in the ability to search text strings in Hebrew and in English in all PDF documents. The menus and interface might be in US-English or in Hebrew as far as I am concerned.

The ME version of Adobe products are not actually Adobe products. Contact the company that makes and supports these products:

  • Does OSX do "backward compatibility to Acrobat Reader version 6"?

I need to prepare a PDF file from my Pages document, and it required to provide "backward compatibility to Acrobat Reader version 6." Apparently this is something Acrobat Distiller can do but I don't have that app. How can I get Pages to make such a PDF file, or how can I convert the one Pages makes to that format? (I looked at ColorSync Utility but didn't see anything relevant among its PDF filters.)
Quick advice would be very much appreciated!

You have to use cmd + P when creating PDF files from Pages with this new option.

  • Backward compatibility problem...acrobat 8.0 vs reader 6.0

Not sure if this is the right forum, but will start here & move if necessary.
We have been using Acrobat 8.0 for 2-3 years & have never had a problem 'til now.  We will be creating a series of documents 1-10 pages long, with sound clips in them & anticipate that some of the systems viewing the documents may be as dated as W98, so we set the PDF configuration to be backward compatible to reader 6.0.
Earlier today I downloaded a copy of reader 6.0, just to make sure all worked...it didn't.  Instead, I get "this file appears to use a new format that this version of acrobat does not support."
The document I used to test was, again, creadted w/acrobat 8.0, set for backward compatibility to reader 6.0.  The document was 4 pages long with 4 color photographs & 2 .mp3 sound clips embedded.
Anybody have any ideas where the problem is?  The test file reads OK on current version readers, so does Acrobat 8.0 not really generate backward compatible documents?

Follow Bernd's suggestion. You probably added something to the file after creation (like the sound clips) and the method you used is not AA6 compatible. Saving the file (or save as) does not preserve the version compatibility, but changes it to AA8. To maintain backward compatibile versions, you have to be sure you do not add AA8 only features and use Reduce File Size or PDF Optimize to save the file as an AA6 compatibile file.
Typically AA6 will open an AA8 file, but will ignore any new feature. You may have added something it can not handle. I don't recall if AA6 could handle embedded mp3 files.
