Adobe Reader keeps quitting

Hi there. My Principal has a Apple Mac running OSX 10.5.3. Whenever she tries to use Reader with a document, it opens for about 3 seconds and quits. The message she gets is "Adobe Reader unexpectedly quit"
The error report is shown below.
I've tried re-installing Adobe reader and I get the same problem. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer. By the way the  error report shown below is not the full thing. I've only included the first 50 lines or so
Thanks and cheers
This is the Mac I'm working on

Hi,
It looks like network user account issue. Are you using Reader X on network user account. It should work on local admin/standard user account. For updates on network user account issue, follow this link - http://forums.adobe.com/message/3696660#3696660
Thanks,

  • Adobe reader keeps giving me an error message when trying to download.

Adobe reader keeps giving me an erro message everytime I try and download something.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Adobe Reader keeps telling me that there is no default mail client

Adobe Reader keeps telling me that there is no default mail client.  But I do have Outlook 2013 set as my default email client.  I really don't wish for Adobe Reader to be looking for an Email Client.  How can I get Adobe Reader to quit looking for an Email Client?

That's on a Mac, but it's the same in Windows.
After you click "Add Other..." use ANY email address (make one up if you feel like it)
Set it as your default. It should stop asking you to choose.

  • Adobe Reader X (10.1.1) Invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit.

This is the second time this has happen.
My system consists of the following:
    PC running Windows 7 w/64bit
When I try to open a .pdf Iget a pop-up within 10 seconds say Invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit.
I paid the $39.00 from tech support to get this fixed in Aug. 2011 and now it's back.
I have gone through all the Adobe hoops and nothing has worked.

    Hi,
Do you have any 3rd party plugin installed for Adobe Reader? If not, close all running instances of Adobe Reader and delete the entire folder at: C:\program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\plug_ins.
Now goto Control Panel > Programs and Features. Locate the entry for Adobe Reader X and chose to repair the installation.
If you do have a 3rd party plugin installed, try uninstalling them and see if the issue is related to the same. If it works, do let me know which plugins were causing the issue so that I can have a look.
    Hopefully, this should fix things.
    Thanks

Sounds like something has been added into the Reader folder. I would recommend uninstalling, running http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, removing any left over parts of the Reader folder (this might have been the problem), reboot, and reinstall. Hopefully that solves the problem. For future question about Reader, you should consider asking in the Reader forum, this is not it.

  • Adobe Reader Just quit

Starting this morning Adobe reader has quit working.
I have  version 10.0.1 on an HP running Windows XP with
    service pack 3 .
When Adobe loads I get an error message " Adobe has encountered a problem and must shut down.......'
When I go to the Adobe website and try to load a new version or retrofit to ver 9  I get a message from the install manager: 'You already have a version installed...installation of this will cease...'
(Error messages are not word for word)
I go to 'Add and Remove programs' and try to remove Adobe reader and I also get error message and the system will not remove the program.

Manually remove it following the instructions here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/400/kb400728.html
Then download and re-install Reader X

  • The error "invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit"

I have gotten the RIKLA from Adobe. And I use the example code BasicPlugin(you can download it from Adobe wetsite) as my plug_in, then, I made the api file according to the steps in document in the "Creating an Adobe Reader Plug_in" section of the "Developping Plug_ins and Applications". As last,I copy the api file to plug_ins folder, open Adobe Reader 8. I saw under the Tool memu there is a new menu named Acrobat sdk so that I think the api file is loaded successfully by Acrobat reader. But an error appears, it is "invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit". Can someone tell me why?Thank you.

    I followed your instructions
"You can find these in the "plug-ins" folder. [C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins]"
I finally found my culprit, I deleted one file folder at a time, then restored them from my Recycle Bin.
I finally found my culprit, in the folder “Babylon” the file “BabylonRPI" was the main culprit.
I deleted the whole Babylon file folder, and havent had the error "invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit" ever since.
Thank you very much kid, you kept it simple, I am not a Techie either.

  • Adobe Reader keeps asking for password

    Hello!
Someone sent me a password protected pdf file.
I wanted to open it with Adobe Reader and it asked for the password. Due to unknown reasons it wouldn't accept the password although I trple checked it.
My problem now is, that Adobe Reader still keeps asking fot the password. Always.
Even when I quit it (force quit, because regular quit doesn't work when it asks for the password) and I relaunch the application it immediatly asks for the password.
I deleted Adobe Reader and it's files in library->application support. The I reinstalled the reader.
But as soon as I launch the application the password window pops up.
And it doesn't disappear no matter what I do.
    Adobe Reader is absolutely unusable.
    Any ideas glady appreciated!!!
    Thomas

try deleting the file homediretcory/library/preferences/com.adobe.reader.plist then start the Reader and see what happens.

I recently downloaded Adobe Reader 8 and installed easily. However, every time I try to open a PDF it stays open for 5-8 seconds and then quits. (I only have one identity on my computer, and it's the administrator.) If I act quickly, I can print the file before it quits. Any ideas?

Get Info on the Reader application, and under the plug-in section, uncheck the updater.acroplugin entry, then relaunch Reader.
