Adprep/Domian prep problem

Dear Exper
I've been facing a problem in creating a Windows 2008 Server as a Domain controller for an existing WIN 2003 Domain Controller. I ran adprep/forestprep and adprep/rodcprep successfully but while running adprep/domainprep it prompted an error "Adprep
detected that the domain is not in native mode" and stopped the operation. I checked the raise domain functional level but it was selected as Windows 2000 Mixed. Please let me know if I can change it to Windows Server 2003 and doing this is safe for my
domain or not?
Waiting for your reply.
BEst Regards,

    Hi,
did you check which servers has FSMO roles?
You can do that via command prompt: netdom query fsmo
For forestprep you must do that on DC which have Schema Operations marter role.
    Command
    Domain controller
Number of times to run the command
    adprep /forestprep
Must be run on the schema operations master for the forest.
    Once for the entire forest
    adprep /domainprep
Must be run on the infrastructure operations master for the domain.
Once in each domain where you plan to install an additional domain controller that runs a later version of Windows Server than the latest version that is running in the domain.
    Note
Domains where you will not add a new domain controller will be affected by adprep /forestprep, but they do not require you to run adprep /domainprep.

  • ADPREP /Forestprep Language Problem

We are running two domain controllers on our network which are 2012. These have been upgraded in the past from 2008 R2. We are in the stages of getting out domain ready for 2012 r2 Domain controllers.
We are trying to run the adprep /forestprep command as MS websites are telling us to. It is coming back with the problem of
    “Can not open adprep.dll.mui”
“Did you fail to copy over the adprep language folders?”
We are running this on the main DC Server and running this as the full Administrator with command prompt running as administrator.
I have been browsing the internet looking for a resolve and not had much luck. Disabled all non windows services, check the language settings and tried
to rename language folder. We are still unable to get any future.
Does anyone have a resolve for this problem please?

    Hi,
Is there any error message in the event log? If so, please provide detail information about this error. You could refer to the article below to upgrade the DC.

  • ActiveSync 500 error and Exchange 2007/2013 coexistence

    Hello,
We have Exchange 2007, and we've deployed Exchange 2013 and coexistence appears to be working.  We have done a small pilot migration of 11 users, and I have 2 of those users that are not able to get iPhone/ActiveSync working.  OWA and Outlook access
work without a problem.  https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ is telling me "The test of the FolderSync command failed." and "Exchange
ActiveSync returned an HTTP 500 response (Internal Server Error)"
The error I'm receiving on the mailbox server event log is:
An exception occurred and was handled by Exchange ActiveSync. This may have been caused by an outdated or corrupted Exchange ActiveSync device partnership. This can occur if a user tries to modify the same item from multiple computers. If this is the case,
Exchange ActiveSync will re-create the partnership with the device. Items will be updated at the next synchronization.
    URL=
    --- Exception start ---
    Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.AirSync.AirSyncPermanentException
Exception message: A null value was received for the NTSD security descriptor of container CN=ExchangeActiveSyncDevices,CN=LASTNAME\, FIRSTNAME.,OU=XXX,OU=People,DC=DOMAIN,DC=local.
Most articles I've found with this issue say to confirm that "Inherit parent permissions" is check on the AD object, but that is already checked?
The funny thing is that most of our pilot users don't have this issue.  It is only for some of them.
    Any help is appreciated.

An update here, I was able to get the 2 pilot user's iPhone/ActiveSync access working by adding the following permissions by hand:
Add Exchange Servers, in Apply onto select
msExchActiveSyncDevices objects (note it's plural) and selecting
    Full Control.
Once I did this, my problems went away.
So the big question is why aren't these permissions in place already?  Isn't this something that the adprep/domain prep should have taken care of?
    Thanks!

  • How can I clone a completed Exchange Server 2013 in a Lab Enviroment?

I was having great time with my Exchange Server 2013 until I tried to clone it to avoid fresh installation of another Exchange 2013 server. Steps taken
(1)Clone the Exchange1 and turn it off
    (2) Brought the Clone Exchange2, renamed it, change the IP configurations,
    (3) Re-ran the ADprep/Doamin prep
    (4) Checked the ASDIedit to verify the Schema/configuration in AD
    (5) Restarted I and was able to logon to the Exchange2
    (6) Brought up the Exchange1, but unable to logon because the name was no longer in AD database
What I did to fix this:
    (7) Rejoin the Exchange1 to the domain - and was able to logon
    (8) Unable to access ECP or OWA of any of the two servers.
    (9) Errors received - Fix the configuration file of the application
My Question - How to I fix the configuration file as suggested (via powershell or GUI or ASDIedit.msc)?

Unless you are cloning an entire environment, and then bringing it up in a seperate isolated environment, it is not supported to simply clone an Exchange Server, and then bring it online in an existing environment and rename it to save on setup and configuration
    time.
You can script the setup and configuration of Exchange through Powershell, either with scripts or with another product controlling it - something like
    System Center Orchastrator.
From the script side of things there are many available on peoples blogs. Check
    here.
Edit: and to be clear, there is no need to re-run any prep tasks against Active Directory when installing a new Exchange Server, unless you are installing into a new domain as part of your Forest.

  • Does adding a 2008 DC to a 2003 AD break NT 4.0 trusts ?

    Hello
we have a AD envionrment with 3 2003 DCs and it has a trust to a seperate NT 4.0 domain.
We are planning to add a 2008 additional DC to the same existing 2003 domain ; it'll require adprep /forest prep switches.
My question here ; does this forest change affect our NT 4.0 two-way trust with 2003 Domain ?
Our domain is running in 2003 forest and domain functional level.

The 2008 box should not affect the trust as long as you have configured
Allow cryptography algorithms compatible with Windows NT 4.0
More on that in this article  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942564
Notice that 2008 R2 will break the trust (no workaround for 2008 R2)
    *** Full Disclosure ***
I have not tested your exact scenario (just haven't had the time to build out an NT domain and none of the networks I work on have NT on them at this point)
    Thanks

  • Prepping to upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.4 -- problem with Disk Utility

I have an 17" iMac that I'm preparing to upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.4. In preparation, I did the following:
    * Mounted a new external HD (LaCie) (my second one)
    * Backed-up all personal files / folders to the new drive
    * Ran Software Update to check for any recent updates - updated iTunes (6.0.3) + an iPod update
    * Ran Disk Utility to repair permissions (which I do whenever I've installed or deteted software) -- Have never had any issues, but this is where my problem started.
Repair permissions hangs at the end (status bar to the very end), and it appears to be working on permissions related to iTunes (sorry, will have to run Disk Utility again and follow-up with the specifics). I ran it twice with the same result.
I saw other threads suggesting that the problem may be with the latest iTunes update (recommending moving the iTunes application folder to the desktop and rerunning Disk Utility), but it seems specific to 10.3. Could this be an issue with 10.2.8 as well. If I can successfully complete repairs to permissions (with the above workaround), can I proceed with the 10.4 upgrade, and if so, what should I do with the iTunes application folder (keep it on the desktop, or move it back)?
    Thanks

Cornelius ... thanks for the follow-up. I went ahead and tried both methods, although I should note that I didn't show the iTunes.pkg or iTunesPhoneDrive.pkg files in the Library>Receipts folder as described in the two approaches. I had no luck at all with Kappy's solution (I moved the one file I did have -- iTunesX.pkg -- and Disk Utility stalled as before). I moved iTunes.pkg back to its original folder, and tried the first method you described. I moved the iTunes app to my desktop, and I was able to successfully repair permissions. I trashed two files (iTunes3.pkg and iTunes4.pkg) and left the iTunesX.pkg file as instructed (again, I don't show the iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg file at all). I reran Disk Utility with the same faulty result.
I suspect it may have something to do with the missing files. Any thoughts on that?
    Thanks again.
    Max:
Sorry I misunderstood you. Actually you don't move
your iTunes folder at all. Here are a couple of
procedures. Since I have not had to use it I can't
vouch for either, but I have heard both have worked
    for others.Just to catalogue the
    solutions listed above
Here's what I did, and it worked fine.
    1) Move iTunes onto the Desktop.
    2) Run Disk Utility
    3) Go to HD>Library>Receipts and trash all iTunes
.pkg files EXCEPT for iTunesX.pkg and
    iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg
    4) empty Trash.
    5) move iTune from Desktop back to 'Applications'.
Hey presto. you should now be able to repair
    permissions again.
    HTH
    Kappy’s solution
    1. Navigate to the /Library/Receipts/ folder.
    2. Locate the iTunes.pkg and iTunesX.pkg files and
    move them to the Desktop.
    3. Run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
    4. Move the .pkg files back into the
    /Library/Receipts/ folder.Note that you
are not moving the iTunes folder, but the .pkg files
from the Receipts folder. In the first method you
Trash some of them, in the second you move them back.
But you don't touch the iTunes application as such.
    Good luck.

  • Problems moving files from old start-up following upgrade prep :(

So I thought I would do a clean Leopard install ahead of moving up to 10.6...
Bought a new 1TB SATA drive, 10.5 installed and updated, all apps installed, no problems. I did create a new user account rather than migrating - sounds silly but I wanted a completely clean slate as I've been upgrading this system and carrying the user account forward forever...
Now I am trying to copy my DTP files across from the previous boot drive and I don't seem to have permissions over them, even though 'Get info' says I do.
E.g. moving them from folder to folder does a copy rather than a move, and more often than not needs a password.
Any got suggestions for the best practice approach to move files between SATAs, when the two drives have different accounts, etc? I am wary of the ACLs, changing permissions and screwing things up...
    Thanks v much

If you can you connect both external drives to the computer at the same time, it would be easier to use the "Consolidate Library" utility in iTunes to move (actually copy) your media to the new drive.
1- Open iTunes preferences and select the Advanced tab. Change the location of your iTunes music folder to a location on your new drive. Also select the options "Keep iTunes music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library". Close the preferences dialog.
2- On the iTunes menu, select Advanced/Consolidate Library. This will gather all your media and copy it to the new location (the folder you designated in step 1).
3- After the consolidation is complete, verify that your music still plays, and check "Get Info" on some items to verify that iTunes is looking at the new location.
4- Optional. Delete the original files on your external drive. Do this only if you are certain that everything copied over to the new drive.
5- Optional. Close iTunes and locate your "iTunes Library.itl" file. This is typically in your iTunes folder, which may be on your computer's drive and not the external drive. Move this file to somewhere on your new external drive. Next, hold the Shift key as you launch iTunes and you'll be prompted to "Create Library" or "Choose Library". Select "Choose Library" and navigate to where you put the "iTunes Library.itl" file. This is a one-time step that tells iTunes where to boot the library from.

  • Error with adprep /domainprep /gpprep for 2008 R2

While prepping our 2003 forest for 2008 R2, I am getting an error running 'adprep32 /domainprep /gpprep' in one of my child domains.  The forestprep ran fine and domainprep ran fine on all of the other (8) domains -- it's just this one that is giving

When I look at one of the other child domains where this ran, both of those regkeys exist. Based upon the whenChanged and whenCreated attributes, cn=a3dac986-80e7-4e59-a059-54cb1ab43cb9 appers to be a product of this schema change, but cn=446f24ea-cfd5-4c52-8346-96e170bcb912
has a whenCreated date of 12/11/2003 and a whenChanged date of 12/29/2005, which makes me wonder if this key is maybe the product of an earlier schema update that perhaps failed in this domain?
This is driving me nuts. Can someone help?  If not, I'm going to have to open a Premier incident and I'd really like to avoid that.

  • 2012 Domain Prep fails in root domain

    Hi
We are tryiing to introduce 2012 DCs into our root domain.
The schema has updated fine but the domain prep fails, both on the 2012 server we are trying to promote and whilst running it direct from the infrastructure server itself.

    I have this problem too.
Although we use AIX now I have one HP N-class server
which will not run SAPINST due to this error.
I have the latest patches and
I have tried three different levels of the aCC++ library
    3.50 (minimum required) 3.60 and 3.61.
OSS tells me that this is "always" due to ulimits being too
low. Well I set maxtsize ,maxssize and maxdsiz at the
maximum allowable number (and ulimit to same) to no effect.

according to pp.37 of the document SAP WEB AS ABAP 6.40 SR1 on HPUX: IBM DB2 Unix/windows Prep &plan dated Jan 20 2005,

  • ADPrep Migration from Windows Server 2003 to 2012 Foundation Server fails with error 0x80004005

    Hi all,
Having a problem the forums and Google have been unsuccessful in helping me with. Server is Windows 2003 R2, migrating to Windows Server 2012 foundation.  Have tried the AD Migration on the new 2012 Foundation server both as a standalone server
and a domain server member before running the migration.  I get the following error:
ADPrep execution failed --> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): A device attached to the system is not functioning
I've checked the ADprep logs and have found the following:

Hi Biswajit et. al., thanks for your help thus far, it is greatly appreciated...
Unfortunately I had already disabled the NIC's on both hosts.  They currently remain disabled.  I've just tried turning off IPv6 as well and no luck.
PortQry came back fine (I think) :)

  • We have a problem when we hitting instrumented axis services in weblogic 8.

First we create a domain its only support for axis services.we need to set classpath according to my project. The classpath is going to set in my creating domian name like as "AxisDomain" in that "startweblogic.cmd" file set classpath like
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java %JAVA_VM% %MEM_ARGS% %JAVA_OPTIONS% -Dweblogic.Name=%SERVER_NAME% -Div.home=c:/work/build/Java/ -Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=%PRODUCTION_MODE% -Djava.security.policy="%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic.policy" weblogic.Server"
in this we add our classpath like " Div.home=c:/work/build/Java/ ".Then i start the server and deploy the sample axis service war file it contains " server-config.wsdd" file.In that file the following line shows.
    <service name="CalCService" provider="java:RPC">
    <parameter name="allowedMethods" value="*"/>
    <parameter name="className" value="test.chap.calc"/>
    </service>
In this sample war works fine. After that used my project and configure the services to getting log file purpose. Then used my project Configure/Instrument the Sample War file.we have config.xml file in our project use that file we configure the sample war file.Configuration is used for added our expected jar like "Handle.jar" file into the deployed services lib folder. Our hadlers are also added into the server-config.wsdd file like
    <service name="CalCService" provider="java:RPC"><responseFlow><chain name="HANDLER_JAVA"><handler type="java:org.apache.axis.handlers.JAXRPCHandler"><parameter name="className" value="com.collectors.jt.WebServiceCollector"/><parameter name="endpointId" value="http://localhost:7001/calc1/services/CalCService"/></handler></chain></responseFlow><requestFlow><chain name="HANDLER_JAVA"><handler type="java:org.apache.axis.handlers.JAXRPCHandler"><parameter name="className" value="com.collectors.jt.WebServiceCollector"/><parameter name="endpointId" value="http://localhost:7001/calc1/services/CalCService"/></handler></chain></requestFlow>
    <parameter name="allowedMethods" value="*"/>
    <parameter name="className" value="test.chap.calc"/>
    </service>
Configuration finished after that i want to restart my server that time only redeploy the configured services into the below location :
    "C:\bea\user_projects\domains\javadomain\myserver\.wlnotdelete\extract".
Our nedded jar files also added into this location given below:
    "C:\bea\user_projects\domains\javadomain\myserver\.wlnotdelete\extract\myserver_calc1_calc1\jarfiles\WEB-INF\lib"
Its not happening in weblogic 8.1.1 and weblogic 8.1.3.
But its not added the needed jar files into the above location in weblogic 8.1.1 and 8.1.3.when i deploy the same configured services that time only its works fine.I don't need to redeploy the service whenever i restart the server that time only i want to added jar files into that location.
This problem is only happening in weblogic 8.1.1 and 8.1.3 its not happening in weblogic 7.5 and 8.1.4 .
In the weblogic 7.5 and 8.1.4 when finished my configuration and restart the server that time its added the jar files into the below location
    "C:\bea\user_projects\domains\javadomain\myserver\.wlnotdelete\extract\myserver_calc1_calc1\jarfiles\WEB-INF\lib"
after that i hitted the services using vordel box its working fine and getting log files.
can any one give me a solution to rectify this problem in Weblogic 8.1.1 and 8.1.3.?

forgot to say that I can only use 1 core and it´s not possible/locked to change in preferences/memory and multiprocessing

  • Problems after print server migration to Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi all,
New forum member, first time poster. I am at my wits end and have concussion from banging my head on the desk for several days running. Hopefully someone here may be able to help.
    Environment
I have recently moved our printing environment from a Windows Server 2003 machine to a new Server 2008 R2 machine in prep for rolling out Windows 7 x64 clients. We have 30-40 printers, majority of which are HP's (M2727's, P4015dn's, CM3530's, P2035's & a CM8060).
My procedure for setting up the printers on the new server involved manually creating each printer and using up-to-date drivers, we wanted to start fresh. The HP's are all using the HP Universal PCL 5 or PCL 6 (61.115.1.10527) x86 & x64 driver. We use Desktop Authority on logon to install the required printers for each client.
    Problems
Since everyone is now running through the 2008 R2 server we have had a bunch of intermittent problems pop up all over the place, mostly with our HP printers. When using the PCL6 driver some applications print a page or 10 of garbled gibberish (wingdings etc), so most printers are now using the PCL5 driver. Other applications print the error "PCL XL error" when using PCL6. Sometimes reinstalling the printer on the client machine will resolve these errors, however they tend to resurface.
When we use the PCL5 driver our M2727's intermittently report "Out Of Memory" on the printer display (they are stock with 64M RAM each) - upgrading the RAM may fix this but we never had this problem before on the 2003 server. This problem is not specific to the size of the printed document - it could be a 20 page report or a 2 page excel document. Resetting the printer will generally clear this issue temporarily. This is currently our most annoying/biggest issue.
Some people are having issues printing to a FujiXerox 340A-AP printer - in particular 1 person is able to print fine, where as another prints and the print margin appears to be far too small. After confirming all print margins on the server then reinstalling the printer on the client machine, the problem still persists. We have two FujiXerox printers, the second one is working as intended for 8-10 users with the exact same settings.
    Attempted Fixes
These are some of the attempted fixes that I have tried:
    Turning it off and on
Upgrading the firmware on the M2727's to resolve garbled printing & out of memory
Upgrading the firmware on the CM3530's to resolve garbled printing
Reinstalling all HP Universal PCL5/PCL6 x86 & x64 drivers on the print server
Ensuring that the 2008 R2 server is 100% up-to-date with MS patches
Backing up all printers on print server, removing the print server role, deleting all printers & drivers, rebooting, reinstalling the print server role and restoring all printers from backup
Upgraded Desktop Authority to the latest version - as this application is in charge of installing the printers on logon
As you can see we are having a lot of problems and nothing seems to make any sense. None of this happened before Windows Server 2008 R2 was brought in to the equation.
If anyone is able to provide any assistance that would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Hartz.
tldr; our printers are screwed since migrating to Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • I give up. Have had a problem with HD Bay 4, and can't solve it

I have had my Mac Pro for a year, through Tiger and now Leopard, and it has been a great machine... except. From the night I un-boxed it, it has refused to run a drive in bay 4. it partitions fine, looks fine, and then when copying something (say a 10G folder), it starts fine for about 500meg, estimates about 10 min. All OK. But then it slows down, never gets past about 1 G, and the highest time estimate I have seen is 80 hours, The drive in bay 3 is not affected, though the machine is noticeably slower whenever moving from one drive to another is involved. Removing the drive restores all to normal. But the drive is semi permanently damaged, in that it has something written on it that is very hard to fix. I have been most successful converting it to USB. This has happened over at least 10 drives ( I have lots of spares from old legal work, all SATA 2). I have let this go for this long because I have Apple care, and I didn't need the space. But as I am winding down my working career, and pursuing my photography hobby more, this space is now an issue. I have been reading of "resetting", but nothing I have tried has worked as described, except for the PRAM, which did help another small problem. Before I call Apple care, do any of you have any suggestions? I just hate to send the machine for service if it is something that can be 'reset with something I don't know about. By the way, I used a little adapter to hook up SATA's 5 and 6, and they act the same. So in effect. 1 and 2 are normal, and 3 is ok if there is no 4. Go figure.
Thanks in advance for any consideration, Art Colley in Baton Rouge.

Really sorry for the long paragraph, not my usual way, but hopefully it really doesn't matter, does it?
I have tried service, but my recently opened Mac store will not give me an appointment because they are booked up forever, and they will not allow me to talk to anyone. Didn't tell that part, because it was pretty shoddy, I thought, and really didn't help. Calling Apple care is next on the agenda.
I waited otherwise for the reasons i described, and because I knew I had plenty of coverage.
But your comment, about the SMC button was helpful, if I knew what that was.
As to the specifics, Bays 1 and 2 form a RAID0, currently with 2 500 GB WD's, but that has not always been the case. I have tried non RAID configs just in case, and posted on this forum several times last summer.
All of the drives have been moved around a lot, and all that have been in Bay 4 have had the issue. Currently there is a "rescued" Seagate 750 in Bay 3. Nothing in Bay4.
I also agree about the external drives, using currently 2 eSATA with a PCIe controller, both Seagate, 1TB and 1 750. Also 1 500 WD my book on FW800, and one Seagate 750 on USB.
Then the drives that I would love to use somewhere if I can solve this issue, as I look at them now, and: Seagate 320, originally came with the machine (3), Maxtor 120G (2) from other machines,Seagate 160G (3) from other machines, and a Samsung 160 from my HP workstation.
Except for when they are in the RAID array (and don't report SMART), all of these drives report fine in DU, including SMART, as long as they are not in Bay 4, or in the bay6 (5 and 6 are both Intel SATA controllers, listed in "about this Mac, but hidden on the motherboard). In bay 4 and 6 they report just fine until they are used the first time.
All have been thoroughly prepped before use, as described, and as I said once one is "contaminated" by bay4, I usually have to do it with a temporary USB connection before going back to the SATA hookup. In SATA they will neither erase, nor partition, nor repair and verify.
So that's the long and short of it.
Please tell me more about the SMC button you refer to. I assume this discussion board is the best place to learn about such items, and I thank you for your advise and help. Just remember, I do not know what you know, or I wouldn't be asking. Even some of the abbreviations, though familiar, escape me.
Hope you find this more helpful, because I really do need help, and I have confidence in these discussion forums, having used them in several other fields (both as the helper and the helpee!).
Regards, Art Colley in Baton Rouge.
