After saving as jpeg images sometimes look different in other programs or online.

Any ideas how to get more consistent results would be appreciated.

If every application and system were properly color-managed it would be possible to get consistent color everywhere.
As it is, that's simply not the case.
Many folks feel that publishing an image in the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile is the best approach.  There is debate about whether to publish a profile in the image to identify to systems/browsers that have proper color-management that it is using that profile - my opinion is that you should do so.
If you have a wide-gamut monitor that doesn't closely emulate the sRGB profile, and assuming you have it calibrated and profiled, you will see different things when you display an sRGB image using a fully color-managed application (e.g., Photoshop), a partially color-managed application (e.g., Internet Explorer), or a non-color-managed applications (e.g., an older viewer application).  That is to be expected.
The various browsers implement different levels of color-management.  I mentioned that IE only does half the job - it interprets image color profiles, but it assumes every monitor is sRGB regardless of its profile.  Firefox can do a full job of color-management, even including non-image web page element color-management, but it takes reconfiguration to do so.  Safari only does image color-management, not web page elements.  Last I looked Chrome ignored color-management entirely.
Create your image in the sRGB color-space, trust what you see on your calibrated and profiled system when the image is displayed in Photoshop - i.e., make the colors look right there - and make your own choice about whether to publish with the sRGB profile embedded.  That's about the best you can do.

  • Why can't I drag and drop images from the browser into other programs?

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 4 (even after I upgraded again to Firefox 5) I have been unable to drag images from the browser into other programs, including MS Paint and IcoFx. I receive an error message stating that the file (the address given lists it as being located in the temporary files folder) cannot be found.
Prior to this I had always been able to conveniently drag and drop images for easy editing without having to save first and then open them. This feature is important to me, as I work with graphics very often, and is still available in Chrome and Internet Explorer. I love Firefox though, and hope that there is something I can do to fix the problem.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did :  Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
    Click OK.
    Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
    Works fine now.

  • My .cr2 files turn a tinted blue after saving as jpegs in ACR CS5

After color correcting a batch of about 100 images, I saved as jpegs and then hit done and a select few of the photos turn a tinted blue. All of the other settings stayed the same.. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on? Or need me to explain more?

It sounds like user-error where an image off screen is still accidentally selected when tint is being adjusted on another group of images, perhaps with a mixture of fluorescent and daylight images, which have a significant difference in tint so the adjustment of one would be obvious on the other.
Since you posted here, I’d guess you don’t feel it is user-error and the ACR plug-in is doing something to cause the issue.  Because it is across two different versions of Photoshop and occurring with different people, a bug would have to be longstanding, but I don’t recall others reporting it.  Sometimes there are sliders that stick or become activated when an unrelated context is exited from (maybe I’m remembering things in Lightroom not ACR, though) so when the mouse-wheel is moved a slider unexpectedly moves instead of the thumbnail list scrolling, but that sort of thing should be obvious on-screen and not only when the JPGs are written.
Does the WB adjustment ever happen near the end of the process so it is the last thing done and a last-minute error might go unnoticed if ACR had not had a chance to redo all the thumbnails?
Is this a relatively new crew of people or a very light or very heavy load, where lack-of-attention or pressure could be leading to selection errors when and adjustment is applied and extra photos are getting selected by accident?  Is there anything different about the one person who hasn’t seen the problem?
Is there anything with the computer monitors that make it difficult to see what images are selected?
It might be interesting to look at the timestamp of the XMP files (if you use those) to see if the one with a bad WB was updated at a different time compared to the ones surrounding it that all were probably done at the same time.
Are these files all local to each computer or are they being shared from a central location?
With a bug it would be nice to have a documented procedure that will always lead to the problem.  Something intermittent that cannot be reproduced by Adobe isn’t going to get fixed.
If it happens relatively often, then you could record an entire session using a screen recorder (like camtasia or similar), or using a video camera over someone’s shoulder, and then play it back and look for either user-error, or as proof that there was none, but strange things happened.

  • Saving as PDF from Excel looks different to Excel version

    Hi
I have been working in Excel and been saving PDF files for the past year using the inbuilt feature in Excel. I have recently installed Adobe Acrobat so that I could save PDFs directly from Excel instead. When I save exactly the same file from Excel, the adobe acrobat PDF looks different to the excel PDF version.
I have uploaded an image to show you what I mean.
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1z1ux6d&s=8
The image on the left is the correct version, this version was saved using the "Save As PDF" option built into excel. The image on the right is the version saved with the Excel acrobat add-in. You can notice how the font is different on acrobat version, the part where it says "Date" and "Description. You will also notice the black lines above the little card icons do not go right to the end of the line like they should. Each of of them little card icons is a seperate image, does Acroboat have trouble converting these little images or something as they appear fine on the Excel version.
Is there anything that can be done so converting it to PDF will look closer to how its suppose to look?

I checked the properties of each file. The Excel PDF version has more fonts listed in the properties section compared to the PDF maker one. I can select the "Date" and "description" and copy and paste it as text but now it appears the text is fine, its showing correctly now even though I havent changed anything.
The icon problem is still there though.
I have also attached another image of a close up of the little card icons:
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=nqac9j&s=8
The version on the right is correct, created within the built in PDF feature in Excel. The version on the left, created with the Excel pdf maker addin.

  • PS CC Image Size Looks Different

This may be in here somewhere, but I didn't see it....
I very recently switched from CS6 to CC.
I edited an image, made a selection, blurred the selection, did my normal processing, then sent it back to LR5.
In LR5 I cropped and exported to 1280 px on the longest side.  Image looked as edited...
Later I got to thinking about sharpening and decided to try cropping and resizing in CC so I could sharpen just the areas that were sharp.
Cropped the image as desired, then did image/image size and cropped to 1280 px.  The area I blurred is DRASTICALLY different - much blurrier.
Went back in history and did a stamp visible, then repeated the crop and resize.  Image now looks as it should.
Tried it with the "scale styles" turned ON and OFF.  No difference.  In theory I've inserted both images.....
This appears to be very different behavior than I've seen in previous versions.  What do I have set wrong?

    Hi Noel,
I opened the image from LR5 as a standard image.
On the original layer, I did the selection of the background.  Feathered it 1 px.
With the selection on, I duplicated it, which gave me a layer that only contained the background.  This way, when it's blurred, it can't blur pixels where the sharp areas are.
I converted the new layer to a smart object.
I then did a filter/blur/gaussian blur of 4 px so I'd have a smart filter.  Looked, fiddled, adjusted the filter eventually to 6 px.
From that point I did my normal
    clone/heal on a layer
dodging on a 50% gray overlay layer
burning on a 50% gray overlay layer
Adjust contrast/brightness/whatever on a curves layer
Adjust saturation on a hue/sat layer
    save the psd...
Crop using the crop tool - no set size, just removing excess stuff
Do image/image size to resize to 1280 px -- this is the point where the background blur changes
IF, on the other hand, prior to cropping, I do a merge visible (with alt down - stamp visible?), I can then crop and resize and the background doesn't change...
I presume I"m doing something wrong in the image size dialog, but I don't see it.  I've tried it with the scale styles on and off - no difference...
If there's any other info you need, let me know.

  • Unable to open saved edited jpeg image

Not being the most techie type person, sorry if this is repeated in numerous place on the forum. I can see, and open, the images in thumbnail form in my 'Picture - Library'. I can then edit them in PE 10, but when I 'save as' (and I save as jpeg image with a version of IMG_****.jpeg copy ) the 'copy' jpeg thumbnail appears in the library as a blank page and no image. I'm then unable to open the 'saved' copy as it's the 'wrong type'. I've tried numerous images but to no avail. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Change IMG_****.jpeg copy to IMG_****copy.jpeg

  • Having saved some jpeg images in Safari, how can I view them?

I have browsed the forum, and have seen answers relating to file storage on iPad, but none of the answers helps me viewing some images (jpeg) I have downloaded using Safari.

  • Why does my flash image viewer look different in firefox than in IE...

So I have created a horizontal spry bar that overlaps a flash image viewer slide show. When i load the page in IE everything works fine, but as soon as you open it in firefox it works improperly...you can hit refresh in firefox and sometimes it resizes the image I don't understand how that is possible....if you have any input it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You need to be aware of the limitations of the various browsers and make sure you use web-safe fonts and colors.....

Do a Command A on all your pages in iWeb to make sure that objects/text boxes are not touching or overlapping.
Firefox has problems with displaying drop shadows/frames etc.

  • Downconverting HD to SD  -- background images sometime look jittery

I have made many SD dvds of this project along the way. The previous ones were fine. I haven't changed the way I make them and am even using same kind of DVDs, but now suddenly the quality is terrible. In addition to background images appearing jittery at times, the image appears out of focus at other times (and it really isn't). The overall quality is just bad. Any thoughts?

Can anyone give us some suggestions for the best workflow to convert 1080p 24fps Sony EX1 >highest quality images to SD and keep them as sharp as the original HD image?
I can only offer the obvious that SD will never look as sharp as HD. Also progressive digital to interlaced with a size reduction is going to have problems with edge resolution.

  • Problem with sending clips from after effects to premiere.  Color looks different.  Any advice?  Can't link.  4k raw in premiere and 40 layers per clip in ae.   Can't handle it.

There's  a definite color difference from Premiere to ae.  I'm using cineform files as alphas from ae to put back over the clips in Premiere as a layer.  The problem is the color doesn't match like it did in ae and the mask and all that seem funky.  Anyone experience this or have ideas?

  • Pictures edited in iPhoto look different in other applications

I'm running iLife '08 on my new iMac with Leopard 10.5.2
In iPhoto '08 (updated to 7.1.3) I do the following:
    1) Import a picture to the library and double click it to zoom in.
    2) This shows lots of imperfections, so I click on Edit and touch up the picture, then click done.
    3) The next time I double click the picture to zoom in, the imperfections are still there, but if I click on edit the changes I applied at step 2 become visible.
    4) If I export the photo and view in, say Preview, or choose send to iDVD, the resulting image has a lot more imperfections than the image shown in edit mode in iPhoto.
Why do my photos look so much better when viewed in iPhoto edit mode than when viewed in iDVD or Preview?

    Hi,
thanks for responding. I tried both of your suggestions, but no change unfortunately.
If you look at the two photos uploaded here (captured via Grab), the first shows the picture post-editing (i.e. from iPhoto whilst not in edit mode, or from another app such as Preview or iDVD). The second shows the photo as it displays whilst in iPhoto's edit mode. Am I doing something wrong?

  • Layout looks different on other computers

hi. i published my website through iweb 09 and i've noticed on other computers that the layout and fonts are different. how can i fix this?

Make sure you're using Web Safe Fonts.  Otherwise any computers that don't have the font you used installed will substitute a different font which will change the look of the page entirely.
What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
