After update plugins are re-installed and setting are lost

Hi, after last 2 updated I experienced same problem.
I have changed some setting (like ask to save tabs before exit etc...) and after update all settings are reverted to original ones + all addons (and addon settings) are also lost. Actually I think that ALL ADDONS were actually re-installed and hence I got default settings with every addon so last 2 updates I had to optimize each and every plugin.... annoying....
Will this be the case with every future update ? If so, what can I do to save my settings and addons

If you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click > Properties > Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time. Seems like you are restoring from a blank back up if it is still asking you those 3 options of set up as new, restore from itunes or icloud back up. Set the iPhone up as new then manually restore from a back up. Follow the steps foriTunes 10.7 or earlier in the article below as it is the same process for iTunes 11:

When you do this you will be able to check for backs showing date and time. Be sure to choose a back up made before you restored to factory settings.

After updating to iPhoto 6, thumbs and photos are missing

I just updated from iphoto 5 to 6, installed off the iLife cd. iPhoto is displaying a grey screen with dashed boxes (that show the jpg names of the photos). When clicked, the enlarged photos show an exclamation mark"!"
I have trashed the program and reinstalled it and gotten the same result.
I have also relaunched with the option/apple keys and run OnyX to repair permissions and then restarted.
I did not mess around with my iPhoto library. All the photos exist in their original folders. I could reinstall them BUT I have some very nicely done photo books and albums I'd like to keep and many of my photos have been retouched. I have around 5000 photos I'm dealing with.
OF COURSE I did not Back up ILife before I upgraded. $%^&
Manually Imported photos from another folder are showing up fine. - Which makes me think that there is some database that thinks that all the other pictures are of a grey box ... is there a database that can be thrown out?

Well, I purchased and installed iPhoto Library Manager.
Unless I am missing some magic button, It doesn't seem to be the answer. All it does is move the selected phantom file references and then tells me that 0 files were moved.
I guess I get to manually add my old photos into the new "improved" iphoto 6 and forget about saving 2 years worth of albums and photo books.
II don't know if this matters, I was running my old billing program in system 9, which I shut down while updating the photo list.

I ran into this problem as well. Seems like something funky going on with iBooks 3. Anyways, I had to tweak my read-aloud clip starts in the smil. Where the word was not highlighting, I added a few milliseconds to the timing until the word started highlighting again. Not the most ideal solution, and not sure what exactly causes it because 90% of the words were just fine, but it seemed to fix the problem. Note prior to the problem happening, I had all my clip start timings = clip end timings for the previous word, so there were no gaps.

Might be corrupted preferences.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.screensaver.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then reset your screen saver.

Extensions Are Not Installed and Then Shown Again

Hi,
I am updating Jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.4 and there are 4 extensions that are not installed and show again every time:
Repository Harverster
AIA Service Constructor
AIA Composite Application Framework 2.4
Fusion Developer Guide update
The problem is much more in that this kind of issue with updates was in Jdeveloper since its beginning, than is the immediate need for this 4 extensions. Is there a reliable way to manage this issues? Why One should rely on a software with so basic and persistent problems?

Hi Fabio,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles with these extensions. After looking at each of the extensions, it appears that they are being installed, but they are not placing a jar file into the /jdev/extensions folder which is what JDeveloper is looking for in order to determine if they are up to date or not.
I've filed a bug against each of the extensions.
This is not an issue with the larger IDE itself, or even the functionality of these 4 extensions actually. It's a bug in how these extensions are being packaged by their development team.

There is no such thing as a "sub-account." Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account." Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases. iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account). You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying. You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend. Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library. Is that on a different computer? How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod. What is your "old iTunes"? Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

Are you storing Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server via your .Mac account with Mail?
If so, do you access your .Mac account with an email client on another computer or regularly access your account via webmail on another computer?
If not, any other reason you need to store Drafts and Sent messages on the server?
While composing a message with Mail, it is temporarily saved in the account's Drafts mailbox so sounds like something went wrong with the process between finishing and sending the message with Drafts and Sent being stored on the server.
If you don't have any need for this, better to store Drafts and Sent messages locally on the hard drive with Mail.

Don't worry about that. iPhone stuck in recovery mode always happens when you update the iOS on your iPhone. There are two ways to solve it.
First is is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.
Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the Power and Home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the Home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it’s in restore mode.
If DFU mode can't solve the problem, I'm afraid the only solution is to try some 3rd party software, like iPhone data recovery or something like that. You may simply try the tutorial here: How to Fix iPhone that is Stuck in Recovery Mode.

All the drives other than the one with XP will need to be pulled.
Always have backups of your system, clone that you can boot from.
Boot Camp 3.0 was the last supported. You don't need OEM 10.4.6 DVD and your system with EFI and SMC updates (Aug/Sept 2007) may not like it.
32-bit version of Windows on EFI-32 will only get 1.9GB RAM.
Installing 64-bit Windows 7 is a bit harder. Vista pre-SP1 64-bit was the best match for install on my 1,1 and that was 2006-2007.
The new owner needs to deal with this, not you. And really they are better off with a $400 PC instead. Or use a VM.
the owner should put in a new SSD for the system and $44 buys 4 x 2GB RAM. Together it will run just fine. 500GB SSD now $250 / $135 250GB. Biggest issue is a video card on these.
The grey screen - you upgraded the graphic card perhaps.
Unplug everything. Hit power for 5-10 seconds. Reconnect cables for mouse/kb and power, and monitor. You just reset SMC. Yes there is a small button - pull drive #4 and any controller in top slot #4 to see the SMC motherboard reset button but you don't need to.
Any PCIe cards can also play a role and factor into XP or Windows not working.

After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with device errors. You may want to consider restoring your device to factory settings to resolve the issues you've described:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
Restoring iOS software deletes all your data and content from your device, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar info.
Before you restore your device
Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes.
Use iTunes to back up your device. Transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.
Restore your iOS device
Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary panel, click Restore.
Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart. Once it does, you’ll see the "Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new or using a previous backup. If your iOS device has cellular service, it will activate after you restore.

Adobe PDF installed and set as default printer causes incorrect pagination in Excel

I have come across an interesting bug. When Adobe PDF is installed and set as the default printer, Excel produces incorrect and inconsistent pagination--in my case one of the sheets is printed to two pages wide rather than three it should be (when Adobe PDF is not installed), resulting in 9 printed pages instead of 11. I have created a test case to reproduce it.

Instructions are given on how to reproduce the error. The same error occurs when printing the sample file to Adobe PDF as a printer. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Actually, the problem isn't really Acrobat or the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance at all. The problem is that Microsoft Excel as well as other Microsoft Office applications adjust their printed output based on the characteristics of whatever is chosen as the current printer. This has been an issue since the earliest days of Windows.
Each printer driver instance contains information about the specific printer including but not limited to page size, duplex capability, paper types, page orientation, output trays, imageable area (i.e., page size less unprintable margin areas), and device resolution. Based upon what Excel finds as values for a number of these characteristics, Excel will format the page differently. Excel is particularly sensitive to not only page size, but also imageable area and device resolution. Imageable area is important because Excel is attempting to avoid printing at all on parts of the page that your printer cannot possibly image; this is typically about one quarter inch around for most laser printers, a bit less for inkjet printers unless you have a printer that claims edge-to-edge print capability.
The Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance has imageable areas that exactly match page size for all available page sizes. Thus, Excel formats on the basis that it can print all the way to edge of the page unless you set margins otherwise. It also defaults to 1200dpi. Change the device resolution to another setting via printer properties and you will likely see relayout. These same issues occur with Word and to some degree with PowerPoint.
There is absolutely nothing that Adobe can do about this. The same problem is exhibited if you have access to multiple different printer models with different characteristics on your computer and you change from one to another, even if you don't have any Adobe software loaded on your system. Users have complained to Microsoft for years about this issue, but they typically have not considered this an important issue to tackle (ribbon user interfaces are obviously much more important).
Sorry, but not anything we can really do to help you here other than to advise you to always compose your Microsoft documents with the current printer being the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance, create a PDF file, and then print that from Reader/Acrobat to your real target printer. Alternatively, if you are very careful to setup the print characteristics of a spreadsheet to have large enough margins and headers/footers outside what would be the target devices non-printing area, you might get a bit better device independence - but don't count on it.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store
