You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, particularly before any update or restore.
You should also be syncing your contacts to your computer regularly. They hsould be in whatever program/service that you have selected to sync.
If you have failed to do this, then they are very likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

SERIOUSLY, APPLE. Make an announcement acknowledging this garbage. If my device doesn't get its normal battery life back, the poor folks at my local Apple Store are going to have my family and I raging the place. -

I tried several times, with the original sim and with another three different.
What can i do?
Before iOS 6 the iPhone was working perfectly.

If it was legitimately unlocked then updating it will not re-lock it. It will be re-locked only if it was unlocked by hacking it.
That error message, however, does not mean it is locked. It means that iTunes could not verify the locked state because it could not communicate with Apple's activation database at gs.apple.com. There are common reasons that the server connection fails:
1. Your router, antivirus or firewall is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. You don't have a WiFi connection if you updated on the phone and not with a computer.
3. If you updated using your computer and it was used to hack, unlock or jailbreak some iOS device in the past (not necessarily the iPhone with the problem) and the network database on the computer is corrupted. -
I updated the phone, and now, it won't charge through the wall charger, or through connecting to my PC. It doesn't even launch itunes or register it has connected. But the phone still palys music through my docking station. HELP!?

I have the same problem and I do anything you can imagine. If you leave your phone about two or three days and after that plug in it your phone will be power on but your problem doesn't fix. I tried to restore as a new phone, reset all my settings and also I contacted Apple Support but I couldn't fix it. I think that it would be a software issue because it occurred right after iOS 6.1.3 update. It look likes that we have only two choice. First choice is waiting until Apple release next iOS update and check it in our phones, and the other choice is visiting an Apple retail store to diagnostic our phones for hardware issue. -

After updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8.0.2 I can't connect to any Wi-Fi connections and it just keeps on searching for Wi-Fi networks.
Can someone please help me with how to resolve this problem?The phone's performance is ok but like i know it could be better and when you switch on wi-fi it gets stuck and i have to switch it off and back on if i want to use it.

After updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1 it will not connect to the wifi network at work even though it recognizes it. It however still automatically connects to the network at home (this is the network I used to update the phone). My iPad however does not seem to have any problem connecting. I have restared the phone, toggled the router, re-entered the network password but there's still no connection.
When your device is trying to connect to the work Wi-Fi network, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > then tap on the name of the Netowrk that she is having trouble with. Then tap on forget this network. Let the device attempt to connect again and make absolutely sure she is trying to connect to the work network and not a nearby network, then make absolutely sure the password is entered correctly.

It sounds like you have a hacked/unofficially unlocked iphone. When you update, it will indeed lock it back, as it should.
The ONLY place that can legitimately unlock an iphone is the carrier to which they are locked and no U.S. carrier does this. -
Syncing is really slow after upgrading my iPhone 3Gs to iOS 4.3.3.
After upgrading my iPhone 3Gs to iOS 4.3.3, syncing my iPhone takes 15 to 20 minutes. Prior to this, it only took a minute or two. It just sits on "Preparing to Sync" the whole time, an finally completes the sync after 15 or 20 minutes. My office 2007 Outlook locks up in "Office Outlook is Syncronizing Folders" right after syncing. I have to reboot the computer to get it out of this state. What is the problem here? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how was it resolved? Thank you.

PLSS HELP ME OUT !!!!Sounds like your phone was hacked to work with any network. Doing the update re-locked it to the original carrier. All you can do now is contact the carrier it is locked to to see if they have an unlocking policy. Note that if it's AT&T they do not offer unlocking. otherwise find an un-activated sim for the original carrier and you can use it as an iPod.

Well, just for future reference, any time you do an iOS upgrade, it is a good idea to back up your device just prior to doing the download. You can back it up to iCloud or to iTunes. Personally, I prefer to back it up to iTunes, and then to do the download via iTunes as well. Doing a Wifi download can, by the very nature of the OTA environment, run into more issues than a hard-wired one via iTunes.
If it is just a version release (like 8.0.1, or 8.0.2), then I might download it via Wifi, since the content is not likely to be very large. But for any major new release (7 to 8, etc.) it is always a good idea to do it via the USB cable rather than OTA.
I would also suggest that you set up your device to do automatic iCloud backups. Whenever it is turned on (i.e., not manually powered off - it can be "asleep"), plugged into a power source, and connected to Wifi, it will do an automatic backup every 24 hours. Mine usually backs up at night.
But even with my iCloud backup in reserve, I still did an iTunes backup before I upgraded to iOS 8. I like having the extra security of that second backup to choose from, should I need it. Here is a support article comparing the two types of backup:
