Aggregate data in query

Hi,
I have location, amount and date in table.
For a particular date and location I want the total amount as the query output.
Ex:
Location Amount
A1 100
Is there a way this can be done? Can you please provide me with the SQL for this task?
Thanks,.
raja

GROUP BY the columns, date and location and calculate SUM. If you want it for particular date and location, add the condition in WHERE clause. I guess now you should be able to build the query.

  • Can I store only the aggregate data in OLAP cube

    Hi All,
I know that the OLAP cubes store the leaf data and then builds the aggregate data on top of it and stores with in it. I have huge amounts of data ( like billions of data in my fact table and 6-8 dimension tables). If you keep the leaf data along with the agg data with in the cube would be too large to build.
So I am thinking to have to store only the agg data within the OLAP cube and for the leaf data it should still read from the Relational tables. Something like Hybrid OLAP.
    (what I mean is
    1. create the dimensions and cube in the AWM on 11g.
    2. I will also specifiy the levels that I want the agg data to be calculated and stored in the OLAP cube.
    (what I want is
    1. I want to store only the agg data in the cube and leaf data still in the relatlional tables.
    2. when I read the cube and drill down to the leaf level , it should fetch the leaf level data.
Is this possible in Oracle OLAP, if yes please provide some pointers
    Thanks
    S

First you should try out storing and aggregating data to atleast see if the cube-loading time, query-time and AW-size is within acceptable limit or not. 11gOLAP especially 11gR2 OLAP is very efficient on all three fronts.
Regarding specifying levels, you can either use Cost-based-aggregation and pick the %age that should be pre-aggregated OR you can use Level-based-aggregation and pick the levels from each dimension that should be pre-aggregated.
Try these out before venturing into anything else. You will be surprised by the results. There are other ways to store the data in smaller multiple-cubes and joining those cubes through formulas. Make sure you don't mistake an attribute for a dimension.
Not sure what you mean by just storing aggregated data in olap cubes. You can just do a SUM .. GROUP BY .. of relational data before loading it into olap cubes. For example, if you source data is at DAY level, you can SUM.. GROUP BY .. at MONTH-level and then load month-level data into olap cubes where leaf-level is month-level.
The sql view (used by reporting tools) could then be a join between month-level "olap" data and "day-level" relational data. When you are drilling-down on the data, the sql view will pick up data from appropriate place.
One more thing. Drill-Thru to detail data is a functionality of reporting tools also. If you are using OBIEE or Discoverer Plus OLAP, then you can design the reports in a way that after you reach the olap leaf-level, then it will take the user to a relational detail-report.
These are all just quick suggestions (on a Friday evening). If possible, you should get Oracle OLAP Consulting Group help, who can come up with good design for all your reporting needs.

  • How to aggregate data with BI Publisher using an OBIEE analysis

    Hello,
I'm new with BI Publisher, and I have a concern about the ability for BIP to aggregate data.
I am creating a data source from an OBIEE analysis containing the columns "Year", "Month", and "Revenue".
I want to use this source for 1 report containing several pages. One of the page has a simple table displaying only the Year and the Revenue.
But I get as many rows as number of months is the year.
And I cannot find any way to have the data aggregate inside my PIB table.
Can someone help me finding the solution?
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi,
Unfortunalty BIP doesn't aggregate anything, like the BI server does. It will always show data on the lowest level.
If you use a query on the BI-server let the BI server do the aggregation and just remove the "Month" column. If you don't want to remove it from your OBI analysis, copy the logical SQL from this analysis to BIP. And select OBIEE as a datasource.
Then remove month from your query.

  • Aggregate descriptors and query keys

We are in the process of migrating from TopLink to EclipseLink.
I have a class Audit that contains the auditing columns that are common to other classes
I have another class Customer that extends the Audit.
Audit is an aggregate descriptor mapped in Customer.
There is an UpdateAllQuery to update a single customer row in the customer.
To update the audit column an addUpdate is added on the field.
    query.addUpdate(builder.getField("LAST_UPDT_USER_C"), "Test");
When this query is executed I get an error saying the field is not mapped. But this field is mapped in the aggregate.
This used to work in TopLink.
Any idea why it errors out and how to solve it?
    Thanks for the help.
The JavaDoc says that getField work on non mapped field -
    Expression org.eclipse.persistence.internal.expressions.DataExpression.getField(String fieldName)
ADVANCED: Return an expression representing a field in a data-level query. This is used internally in EclipseLink, or to construct queries involving fields and/or tables that are not mapped.
    ERROR -
Exception Description: Attribute name or expression passed as a first parameter to addUpdate method defines a field from a table that's not mapped to query descriptor.
    Attribute name or Expression: [
    Field LAST_UPDT_USER_C
    Base QUERY OBJECT]
    Wrong field: [LAST_UPDT_USER_C]

    Hello,
I can't see what has changed in the area that throws the exception, as it seems similar to TopLink 11. Which version of TopLink was this working on, and what version of EclipseLink are you using?
If the field is mapped, why are you not using the attribute mapping via the builder.get("audit").get("auditMappingForTheField") instead of accessing the field directly?
The code itself seems to throw an exception because the table for the field cannot be found in the descriptor's table list You can try to define the table name in the field and see if this helps: builder.getField("Tablename.LAST_UPDT_USER_C"). If this works, please file a bug as it should not be neccessary or the error message needs to be fixed.

  • About the Key date in Query Properties

    Hi,
With regard to the Key date in Query Properties, As I understood from the previous postings that it is used to filter out the data for Time dependent Master data object. But once we set up this key date, isn't it applicable to all InfoObjects in Query. For example, if I give  Key date as 20/05/2007, can't we get data beyond 20/05/2007 to all the objects in Query when I have Employee Group as Time dependent Attribute. And if we create any variable for Key date under calday, isn't it applicable to all objects. How is it applicable to only Employee Group.

Re: Key Date in Query Properties -can it be dynamic ?
Say i have a query that has a user input date range interval. Say the query is supposed to display some key figures restricted on a Time Dependent Characteristic attribute for the date range.
So, in the Query Properties - i really DONT want to set the Key Date to a fixed date ( today or a user input date) but instead i want to set it to the system date that the BW olap processor is going to use while selecting each and every row from the cube while processing the date range.
for example while processing the date range - for each one of the dates it hits upon a fact table record and it has to fetch the attribute from the time dependent master data table using that date and if this attribute is 'x' then aggregate the key figure if not go to the next one...
do i make sense ? let me know if the above doesn't. I will try to explain my Q again. Want to know if BW lets you do that.
    thanks
    Arun Pond.

  • Not sure if this is the right place...but is there any aggregate data repository/dictionary out there?

And what I mean is...Is there any aggregate data dictionary out there that tells you how long and what type a data column should be?
For example...Medical Provider Name...what is the normal length for something like this? Provider ID? Tax ID? Address Line 1? City? State?...Etc...
Is like EDI X12 considered the Bible of Data Dictionaries? Yet you have to pay for that don't you? Is there anything else I can reference???
Thanks for your review and am hopeful for a reply.

    Provider ID is well defined:
    "National Provider Identifier Standard (NPI)
The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Administrative Simplification Standard. The NPI is a unique identification number for covered health care providers. Covered health care providers and
all health plans and health care clearinghouses must use the NPIs in the administrative and financial transactions adopted under HIPAA. The NPI is a 10-position, intelligence-free numeric identifier (10-digit number). This means that the numbers do not carry
other information about healthcare providers, such as the state in which they live or their medical specialty. The NPI must be used in lieu of legacy provider identifiers in the HIPAA standards transactions."

  • Looking at aggregate data

    Hi Guys,
I created an aggregate from a cube, there is a way to see the aggregate data as I see the cube or DSO data.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The active aggregate that is filled with data can be used for reporting. If the aggregate contains data that is to be evaluated by a query, the query data is read automatically from the aggregate.

  • How Can I use a Variable  in Data Controls query. Frank Kindly check...

    Hii,
I am using JDeveloper 11g ADF BC.
My Requirement is that I hv a login screen which is taken from [http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/simpleJSFDBlogin.zip].
I hv attached BC in this application. I want to use the login usercode in the next pages after login screen. Next screen contains 3 list items which will be populating based on the user. So I created <af:selectOneChoice> using the BC( Just drag & dropped the column into the page from the data controls). But in the data control i want to use this usercode for passing the condition. Now Data is coming without any condition.
So How can I use the usercode in the Data controls query.
When I tried to display the usercode in the next page it is showing by binding the value. its code is follows

    Hi,
I didn't look at the example, but if you want to secure your application then you should use container managed security. Read this .
Anyway, you could add this before return "good"; in your login_action()
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().put("username", user); Then, you can access this from anywhere in the application by using #{sessionScope.username}.

  • How to display current date in query header?

    Hi,
How to display current date in query header?
I use Query Designer for development.
    Thanks,
    Arun KK

    Hi Arun,
You can define fixed header lines and footer lines so that when you generate the query list, they can receive current values of certain fields. When you define a header line or a footer line, you must specify a character string of the type &field, where field is the short name of a field.
This function allows you (for example) to place a sort criterion in the header line.
You can include the following fields as variables in the headers directly:
    %NAME
Name of the user processing the query
    %DATE
    Current date
    %TIME
    Current time
    %PAGE
    Current page number (6 characters)
    %P
    Current page number (3 characters)
These fields can be used in the short forms N,D,T and P. If you want to use these letters as short names for query fields, the field values from the query are used.
